Mia lowered her weapon as she heard Randall and saw him come into view. He had his gun aimed at Luca and her job was done.
She stood very still for a moment, and then spoke. "He was gonna shoot the kid. Kids been ...Yuri, has been bitten and Ellen said to take him to a tent , when one was cleared, to ...help make him comfortable, this guy was just gonna blow him away, I stopped him, Randall." She turned her head over to Randall, tears welling in her eyes. She had never done something like that. Never been about to kill another human being, hell she had taken an oath. Walkers were NOT human anymore, that was different. He was gonna shoot the kid, and he was ...still alive! She didn't have a choice. She held her gun and her hand started to shake a bit, "I ...we have check ins..in the med tent." She said to Randall, "You got this?" She knew Randall would understand, he knew her story. She backed away from Luca, and knew she would not have hesitated, she would have pulled the trigger. That scared her.
It seemed that the craziness of the day was not over yet as just when he was about to submit to the inspection something was going down again. From the sounds of it someone had been bitten and there was an argument over how to take care of it. Some wanted to make him comfortable while another man was going to shoot him dead. It's not like Cap hadn't done the same when it was necessary so he just let the conflict happen. He was a nobody in this camp and to boot he was currently weaponless.
When the woman came back the pirate silently undressed and let the doctor examine him. He had become quite well built since everything had hit the fan. He was toned and built for fighting. Numerous scars across his body stood testament to battles he had seen. In this world it seemed that you had more to fear from the living then from the dead. Of the most notable scars were a bullet wound in his shoulder, right above a tattoo of a phoenix clutching a black rose. His eyes watered when he saw the tattoo and one again the other guy threatened to surface.
"Ye satisfied wit this here look see Doc? Might be a walker tried to bite ole Veran but ain't one ever gotten close enough. Might be I understand why ye had to check though."
"So is the scallywag free ta go or do I need ta be answering some questions? An' if'n I do can I put me clothes back on fer um?"
Mia sat down and she looked rattled. She ran a hand over her face, then looked at the pirate as he spoke. She sat there, staring at him. What was with the ....costume?
The doc checked him out and Mia scribbled down her findings. Harding looked exhausted and told Mia to finish up before walking to the back of the tent and through a flap, leading to another room.
Mia felt her jaw drop. Finish! Finish what? She wasn't qualified to check out his mental status.
She closed her mouth and shrugged, "Yea...get dressed...that's fine." She stared down at her notes. Mia cleared her throat, "Um...look..I'm just the nurse, but...really...I..." she sighed, 'look, are you alright? I mean, you don't really think you are a pirate, do you?" She couldn't deal with this right now.
She dropped the pen and sunk her head into her hands. In a fraction of a moment, her shoulders started to shake. Damnit! Why now? She was tired, and stressed. That was it, she told herself, as she struggled to get herself under control.
This looked real good. the med staff bawling her eyes out in front of you. Yea, that reeked of confidence.
The pirate dressed quickly and bent down in front of the woman. She obviously was shaken by what she had seen during the confrontation with the man.
"It's alright lass. I know what your going through. I imagine you've been here for a while. Even I get shaken when I have a confrontation with the living. As far as this..."
He motioned to his garb.
"I'll tell you a secret. I lost my son. Went to get him when all hell broke lose and he wasn't there. Don't know if he's dead or not. I couldn't handle it. So I became someone who could."
The last part, about his son had been said at a level that only she would hear.
Lex couldn't help but chuckle at The Captain's words. He too heard the commotion that had gone on outside, but personally felt the group was making a mistake. The fella all pissed off had the right idea. If the kid was bitten, a bullet to the head while he was still alive was the merciful thing to do, no one wanted to die as one of toughs things... That was a fate worse than death. In letting the kid ride it out, they risked everyone else's lives where were still breathing. All it took was one moment of hesitation. He'd seen it before... As he awaited orders of what was to be done with him, he leaned against a shelf and folded his arms. Lots of down time. He looked around, taking mental notes of what was here, should he have need of any of it. Unlike the Captain, Lex didn't have tattoos. Not that he never had time to get them, he just never cared to go. Something about needles always kept him away. It was then that the Doc took his leave. The nurse then fell apart. This whole place was a walking ball of nerves. Great, the longer Lex stayed here the less likely he felt his chances of survival were going to be. People were talking about this place, and it wouldn't be long before the wrong people came snooping around. They thought Lex was bad? Sure, he had done some fucked up things to survive, had killed people even. But the bad people he knew that would be coming were far worse than he could ever be. He'd seen people torture people just for fun. To break a man's legs and then rape his wife in front of him, forcing him to watch before they took turns stabbing him, seeing how long they could keep him alive and then burning the woman all together, or worse.... Keeping her along to abuse until they grew bored and then feeding her to the Walkers. Their were REAL sick people out there, and they would come here. It was only a matter of time. And not one of these people seem to be able to keep calm. Save that old man from earlier. Lex doubted many of them would survive if people like that came snooping around, and he didn't want to be here when they did. "So, off to my cell then Jailer?" He said with a coy smile that seemed more annoyance than anything else. And now the Captain was trying to comfort her. He whispered something to her, something Lex couldn't hear, not that it mattered. He let out a sigh, "We're all gonna die..." He said in a low tone of his own.
Many came to him to try and comfort him or for 'other' reasons. First up was Andrei, he was doctor he imagined he'd be comfortable with him and could trust him. He heard that he asked for some vodka, it was the first time Yuri partly smiled ever since he had thrown up. Andrei walked up to Yuri and told him to cheer up, to which Yuri could only do a straight face, but tried to force a smile. He watched him walk away to Logan to have a less open conversation.
Anthony was next and he tried to defend that he might love through it, Yuri knew what was going to happen, what always happens, no other result. He came over and placed a hand on his shoulder, Yuri didn't mind about it. He told him he was a good kid, and mentioned a bit of a dumbass. Yuri tried to force a smile again, but didn't work.
Finally, Luca came over to him, not so much to comfort him. He felt the man's hands grab him and shake him about, Luca's shouting didn't really get into Yuri's ears. In a matter of seconds, he felt Luca's gun pointed to his head. He looked at the man and didn't retaliate, he whispered lightly. "Do it". He was hoping that Luca pulled the trigger, but he was stopped by another woman he hadn't met here yet. Everyone else then had their own conversations leaving Yuri on his own.

"Luca! Stop!" She cried out as he put the gun to Yuri's head, but Mia was already on him with a gun drawn on Luca. She had no weapon on her and things had suddenly gone from bad to worse. The guard Randall arrived to hopefully get control of the entire situation and she couldn't help but turn away from the entire scene. Emotions were strung as tight as a guitar string and her own were spinning wildly out of control. She hadn't been around this many people in a long time and she was starting to feel like the walls were closing in.
Randall escorted Luca away from everyone and meekly she said, "wait.."
Her voice went unheard though and before any more trouble could come, she decided that perhaps she should pack everything up that was on her bunk. She went over to Anthony to make sure he was okay. Luca pushing him away was a bit shocking. She patted him on the back with an apologetic gaze and kept going.
Back in the tent, the empty backpack sat unzipped and open and one by one, she started packing away everything she had meticulously laid out. If there was anything for her here, she didn't see it. What she knew she could do well was not going to be allowed. She finished packing everything up and hoisted the heavy pack over her shoulder, heading to the medical tent. On her way, she stopped and heard two male voices talking quietly behind the flaps of another tent. It sounded like Randall and Luca and it sounded like interruptions were unwelcome. Her boots kept her going across the grounds until she came to where Yuri was being laid in one of the beds.
"Hey kid. Look, you should know I wasn't going to pick you apart like Frankenstein's monster or anything. I wouldn't have done anything without your permission. I guess I didn't make that clear, but there ain't no thinking about that now. Just uh..."
She really wasn't very good at saying goodbye, no matter what the circumstances were.
"Just try to rest. Get some fluids in you. I'm sure the doc here will keep you comfortable."
Last Edit: Feb 6, 2015 7:19:25 GMT -5 by Remy LaCroix
Mac was taken to the side by Andrei so he could have his say. He started to like the young doctor more by the day; what he said made sense but he couldn't help but wonder what else could be less painful than a gunshot to the head. Still, euthanasia was more preferable than a shot to the head he guessed. Unless Andrei would use some much needed supplies in order to make the deadly cocktail. But he'd check it out later. Right now, shit was hitting the fan again in the form of Luca.
For what it was worth, Mac couldn't really blame Luca for getting angry at Yuri. He had a point, hell he was even right. But announcing it so loudly definitely didn't do well for their group's reputation in the camp, which was given the events of that day 'kinda bad' at best. Luca drew his .44 and Mac knew this was a bad move. Someone was bound to react, and someone did; the camp's nurse. Then the elder male Randall who they first saw chimed in. Mac grabbed Anne-Marie and put her behind him. Ellen was not here at the moment, but she probably wouldn't be far behind, as Randall was the one she was looking for.
But Luca needed to learn. They were still guests here in the camp until it was decided otherwise and he couldn't just go around waving his gun as he pleased. Mac was inclined to chime in, but then decided to let it play out and have Luca learn the hard way. It played out with Luca backing down and being dragged away by Randall. Mac decided it was probably best to go after them, maybe plead temporary insanity for Luca to Randall. Or temporary stupidity. Or both. Mac just shook his head at the whole event.
"Yup, not one day." Mac said to Andrei, referring to his earlier comment about pointing guns at eachother. He then noticed Remy with a backpack, all packed up to go. He waited for her to be done saying something to Yuri before grabbing her by the arm and dragging her somewhere private by force. No more mister Nice Mac.
"What the fuck's wrong with you!?" Mac said. "You're leaving now because you can't get what you want just like a spoiled little brat!?"
Mac intended to give her an earful, and Remy was going to get it. He had enough of her bullshit. She had practically ruined every chance of getting what she wanted in a normal way, just because she was impatient.
"You've ruined it for yourself, you know that?" Mac said. "All you had to do was to be patient, but even that was too much to ask, was it? And let me explain to you why you fucked it up, apart from announcing to the whole damn camp you're willing to experiment on human beings!"
Mac had gotten a layout of how things worked around the camp when he talked to Ellen, and come up with a plan to get permission to get the experiments done. But Remy undid all that when she managed to get on Ellen's bad side.
"See, there's five people in their Council." Mac continued. "Ellen being one of them. They vote on things and if a majority vote is reached the motion is carried. If you'd have gotten on Ellen's good side instead of pissing her off, that was already one vote you would have gotten for your experiments. Hell, the girl practically told you she could be persuaded, instead you ran off like a child! And if you'd have gotten Ellen's vote, you'd have gotten that Randall guy's vote as well. The both of them are good friends and she could've persuaded him into it. Then, there's the camp's doctor; she's overworked and Andrei, who they're probably gonna put to work beside her, could've convinced her of the benefits of such experiments. So at the worst, if the other two couldn't be convinced, they would've voted 3 against 2 and you would've had your experiments! All you needed was some goddamn patience but you just couldn't lay off for one more day could you? So yeah, nice goin' Lacroix! You fucked it up for yourself!"

Remy was thusly yanked away from Yuri by Logan, by the arm, into another room. She looked around to see if anyone was here and was certain any amount of privacy she may have thought she had did not exist. Logan went on to reprimand her like a child at her reactions to everything that was going on. The fact that Lex had arrived made everything ten times worse for her.
"The only thing I've done is try to take advantage of a situation that just came up. I was willing to wait, Logan. I ain't got nothing but time on my hands. But you all assumed the worst..."
She pulled her arm free from him and shook her head as her hands went firmly planted on her waist.
"I never said I was leaving. I don't know if I want to, but I have a feeling if it came down to it right now, the majority vote would be to have me leave. Ya'll got so caught up in yourselves that you ain't taken no time to even talk to me. And I get it. You got your daughters now. You have to look out for them. Luca? He had plenty of time but instead went on about himself and his past. I'm expected to be the keeper of secrets. To hear everyone out yet no one hears me out. Ain't no time to listen."
She shook her head and furrowed her brow.
"Lex arriving here. Yuri being bit. In this place, with all these people, none of which give two flying fucks about us. You included Logan. You got your daughters and that's more then most of us. The only thing I know how to do and I'm seen as a monster for wanting to investigate and try to do something. No man, I'm just an outsider looking in. I've been doing my best to care, Logan. I've been doing everything I can to have faith in people again, but time and time again it comes back to bite me in the ass. "
She suddenly realized her confessional was coming out as her eyes teared up. This was the last person she wanted to say anything to about her past, who she was on the inside and why she was doing what she was doing. Her jaw clenched and she clammed up about anything. She caught herself being vulnerable again and she immediately stopped herself. The worst part of everything right now was the fact she had seen Lex again, face to face. The array of emotions that came from his presence was overwhelming to her.
"Look, I'll just let Ellen make any decision she wants about me. If she wants me gone, then I'm gone. If she wants me to stay, then I'll just have to figure out a way to cope but I don't know what I can do for this group that isn't already being done."
'Caught up with himself and his daughters?' That went down bad with Mac. Today had been the first time in more than a year that he saw Ellen again, and he barely got time to catch up with her. And damn right he'd care about his daughters first, that was his job as a father. But bringing along everyone else, he didn't need to do that. He could've taken Anne-Marie and left right after the safehouse raid in Miami, but instead he chose to stay with the group to make sure they were all safe, and they all had a place to go to.
"Are you kidding me right now?" Mac asked. "I haven't seen my daughter in more than a year, and I even haven't had a decent chance to catch up with her since we got here! And yeah, they come first place but if I didn't give a shit about the rest of you we wouldn't be having this conversation right now!"
Mac was frustrated. Why on earth did he care after all? He completed his mission; his children were safe, and they were in a safe place. So why continue to care? He felt like an idiot trying to talk sense in Remy, he should just let her go.
"And yeah, I don't want you to experiment on Yuri!" Mac continued. "Not because I don't want to find out what this thing is, not because of what these camp people might think, but because what those that have been with you all this time would think! How do you think Andrei would feel? Or Anthony? Or Vivian? You say people don't listen but you can't blame them for not wanting to listen to madness! I mean, how do you expect them to cope with the fact you're experimenting on someone they have been with for so long? Having to see or know that Yuri is still among them even though his mind is dead? I can handle that. You may be able to handle that. But the rest of our group? They couldn't Remy, and they've gone through enough to get here."
As far as Ellen went, Mac knew his daughter was one to hold grudges but she wasn't unreasonable either, and it would require a serious change in attitude from Remy's side if she still wanted a chance to do what she wanted to do. And it would require Remy talking to his oldest daughter.
"As far as Ellen goes, you might be able to fix it." Mac said. "Wait for her to cool off, even apologize, then talk to her about it. She's a reasonable person, she'll see the advantages of your work. Just don't make her question her morals, because you'll surely lose then. It might be good if you bring Andrei along, she seems to respond well to him."
Mac knew he could just tell Ellen to allow the experiments, and she would oblige. But he didn't want to do that, especially if she'd come to regret it later. It was important for someone else to convince her so that she could make her own decision. They still had a chance, Mac just hoped Remy would take his advice.
Post by Remy LaCroix on Feb 6, 2015 10:47:22 GMT -5
Remy found herself getting exhausted with the same conversation over and over again. Still, there was a lot of talking and no listening.
"Logan, I never said I was going to do it against his will. It's HIS will. Why you acting like I was just going to snatch him away and peel him apart? I did say that if he wanted it, I would do it. I wouldn't just do something like that against anyone's will, but you wouldn't know that because you just heard what you wanted to hear."
She shook her head again and looked him in the eye as she spoke.
"I'm happy you found your daughters. I'm glad you have that to hold on to. I said as much when I just said that I get it. I get your daughters are now your priority. You got them now. But if you want to be all talk without listening, then I ain't gonna say anything else about it. It's done. If ya'll want me to do something, I'll take care of it. Chopping wood, sweep the floors, maybe even go fishing. Just understand that as much as I try to be a hardass like you, sometimes it just don't work out, especially when some asshole from my past shows up out of the blue. If I can stay focused on some task then I won't get in the way. If the need for microbiology arises, then you can count on me to help."
She agreed though when it came to letting Ellen cool down. She didn't know the woman and Ellen didn't know her. Her temper sometimes got the better of her and instead of yelling about it, she clammed up and usually walked away before she said something she regretted. That did not seem to work in her favor here. She hadn't even made it through one night without having one outburst, thanks to Lex. The only thing she begged for, in her mind, was to be left alone now. "I'll talk to Ellen when there ain't a crowd of people around, ready to pick everything I say apart."
It had all happened so quickly. Luca had thrown Anthony off of Yuri, and Anthony landed in the dirt as he watched the scene unfold. There was nothing he could do as Luca berated Yuri, and then came within seconds of killing the young man. Thankfully one of the camp's women--Mia--stopped him. And then Randall, the older man, took Luca away. Anthony was disappointed. He would have preferred Randall to just shoot Luca at this point.
Within mere moments, the chaos came to an abrupt end, and Remy helped Anthony to his feet. It was more of a kind gesture, but Anthony appreciated it. He stood in shock, staring at those around him regarding what had just happened. Some were new faces, others were those he'd met in Florida. He shook his head, shocked by Luca's actions.
Anthony was snapped out of his trance as he overheard the conversation between Logan and Remy--there was shouting. It seemed Logan had lost his cool a bit. He couldn't blame the man. A lot was going on. He couldn't blame Remy, either. Tensions were running high, even though they'd just gotten to safety. And now Yuri...
As Remy concluded the conversation with Logan, Anthony approached the young woman. He sighed before speaking. "Hell of a day, huh?" He asked, his voice relatively monotone. "That man's dangerous...he needs to go," he said, referencing Luca. "How are you, Remy?"
Post by Remy LaCroix on Feb 6, 2015 13:23:02 GMT -5
Remy stood there when Logan left without another word. He said all he needed to say to her and that was that. She felt a chill come over her and the defiant arms that were at her waist were now wrapping around her body as if she were trying to comfort herself. She was overwhelmed by everything. New location, new faces, old faces that she wished she would never see again and the constant beratement of what she needed to do to make these discoveries. It was quiet for a few minutes in the tent until Anthony poked his head in to check on her. "I'm fine."
She wiped the heavy sleeves of the jacket she wore against her eyes, wiping away any excess moisture that may have gathered in the past few minutes. She had no idea where she could go to find some solace in this camp, but she knew if she went to Ellen right now she was almost certainly going to get an answer that would not be good. Ellen would likely chew her out and give her nothing that she wanted. In that regard, the camp would be more of a prison to her. She had to bide her time.
"What do you want, Anthony?"
Last Edit: Feb 6, 2015 13:24:09 GMT -5 by Remy LaCroix
Yuri laid in his bed, trying not think about his demise soon to come. Remy came over to explain herself, that she wasn't going to force Yuri and that he had a choice, Yuri knew he gave her a nod and actually managed to smile. "Don't worry, I know what you were saying" he said with a disappearing smile. As she left, Yuri picked up the bottle of Vodka Andrei had gotten for him. He took a quick swig of it and slammed it on a table next to him.
Many had said that they wanted him to feel comfortable in his remaining hours, but Yuri felt like shit, he just wanted it to end. He was alone for the moment, he had a chance to end it there and then, but with nothing to no it with, he had to suffer. He noticed a black object on the ground, it was his gun, he must have dropped it. Yuri sat on the edge of the bed and placed his hands on the table to support him. He was so close to the gun and then... THWACK. His knees give in and he slams onto the table, causing a loud bang. Yuri laid there on the ground, frustrated and disappointed.
After the examination, which was more invasive than Lex would have cared for, he was allowed to go. He gave a simple nod, knowing that he would be watched, if not outright followed. The shouting had come to a halt at least. He would take his leave while the Captain tried to comfort the girl. Touchy feelings wasn't really his thing. No, he just berried everything. He didn't push it down, or try to pretend they weren't there. He flat out berried them.
Once out and about on his own, he figured he would explore. See what was what and where everything was kept. Or try to at the very least. They still had all his stuff, after all. It was on this walk that he heard a loud thud, something slamming into something else. He moved to the sound to find a kid on the ground. "Hell of a place for a nap kid, cot too soft for ya?" He said as he walked over to check on him. After kneeling down he saw the bite. "Christ!" He pulled back quick with alarm as he glanced at the kid. "You're the one, the dead man walking..." His words were a little harsh and he knew it.
With a sigh and a shake of his head he knelt down once more. "Just don't try to fucking bite me kid, okay?" He helped the boy up back onto his cot. "Now, care to explain why I found you sleeping on the floor like you were?"
As he laid there on the ground, a voice came out of nowhere. Yuri looked up too see it was one of the new guys they had met while Yuri was throwing up. The man made jokes about his appearance on the floor. "Funny guy" he said as loud as he could, which was barely a whisper. The man was shocked for some reason, oh, he must have seen Yuri's bite. The man had heard of him, calling him 'the dead man walking'. "Thanks for reminding me" he said, first impressions weren't going to well for this guy to Yuri and from what he heard outside, to others as well. It could've just been his mumbled thoughts though, maybe the guy was good. "Don't bite you? Like I have control over my body when I'm gone". The man asked why he was caught on the floor. "I was just trying to... Get some food, but I fell" Yuri lied. He looked at the gun, he so close to ending it, so close to avoiding this situation, Yuri looked back at the man.
Lex listened to everything the kid had to say and after helping him back to the cot he stooped to pick up the gun on the floor. "Food huh?" He said as he looked the kid over. "Guess you're wanting that one way sandwich?" He shook his head, he couldn't blame the kid, if rolls had been reversed, Lex would want a bullet while he was still human. No way he ever wanted to become one of toughs things. EVER.
He pulled up a chair next to the kid, he didn't look good, didn't sound good. "I don't blame you for wanting to go out a breather kid, and I'm sure as hell not gonna deny you that, if that's what you want. But you ain't gonna die alone like some used trash either." This was the closest thing to caring Lex had come in a long time. He didn't care about the kid personally, he didn't know the kid. He did know that while he himself was a real piece of work, no one should die alone. He had never left anyone to die alone.
Reaching out, the gun was placed on Yuri's chest. He knew he'd catch all kinds of hell for this, but the way he saw it, he wasn't sticking around long enough for that to really matter. It wouldn't be long before people came snooping, bad people... And these poor slobs didn't have it in them to do what needed to be done. Most of them were going to die here. Most.
"You're call kid." He said as he watched the boy. If he needed help, Lex would help him, but he would make damn sure it was the kids hand on the gun, his finger on the trigger, even if Lex had to hold the gun up and do the dirty work himself. The kid deserved better, and the way he saw it, no one here had what it took to do it, to give him what he deserved... To let him Die a living, breathing, thinking, man.
Lex helped him get back into the bed he had struggled out of. Yuri then watched him pick up his one way ticket to hell, guessing that he knew he wanted to commit suicide. He heard the man speak of allowing him the death he wanted, Yuri gave a chuckle of relief. The gun was placed on his chest by Lex, now was Yuri's way out. He grabbed the gun from his chest and got out of the bed. He got on his knees and pointed the muzzle to his head. Yuri looked at Lex and asked a favour of him. "If... When you see the others tell them that I'll miss 'em and if you decide to bury my body, just put it somewhere peaceful or some shit like that". He was now ready to end it and hoped Lex would carry out his favours. "You might wanna look away". His finger hovered over the trigger, Yuri smiled at the thought of his freedom. He pulled it without a second thought, the bullet went through one side and came out of the other, killing him. Finally, he was at peace.
Lex watched the boy climb out of bed and get on his knees right in front of him. He placed the gun to his head and asked for two last favors. Lex hated last requests, they tended to go against his self preservation, but these didn't seem too bad. Tell everyone he was going to miss them, and bury his body somewhere. He was quiet for a moment, but then gave a nod of his head. A quiet admission to follow out the last requests of a dying kid.
You might wanna look away the kid told him, this made Lex smirk. He'd seen enough death, one more wasn't going to bother him now. He watched as the kid pulled the trigger.
BLAM! The shot was loud, and he knew people would come running to see what the hell had just happened. It wasn't going to look good for Lex, but it would look worse if he tried to hide the fact that he was here. So... He simply leaned forward, placed his arms on his legs, and laced his fingers as he waited for whoever was going to come. No point reaching for the weapon.
"Good luck kid." He said softly. He had no idea if their was a life after death, but he'd wish the kid well all the same. Someone had too.
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
