Normally he would have simply walked away. He didn't owe this woman shit, least of all dealing with the shit that had happened in the past. either luckily or unluckily depending on how you looked at it he didn't really need the pirate for what he wanted to talk to her about. It was cold science and the other one was more then capable of talking cold science. In fact he was the only one that could. Whenever he tried to think scientifically he found it impossible unless he dropped the pirate.
"No need to be so hostile. The pirate can't talk science anyways. My theoretical orientation was closer to attachment theory but I have a working understanding of biological psychology. When you mentioned experimenting on that kid that had been bitten I started thinking about what I might do. We might be able to help each other out. Of course your probably going to need to be our face. Not sure people are going to want to talk experiments with me... Then again there is a cabin I spotted not far from here. If it ain't done under their roof I don't see where they could say much about any experiments we wanted to do."

Finally, the voice was gone. But how long could he hold that for? So he was some sort of psychologist judging by the words he was speaking to her. She kept her back to him as she looked down at the animals. She wasn't sure how she was going to get out of this place with the doors guarded the way they were. She also realized that she could not get a car out of this complex without being discovered. She would have to take it all by foot.
"So you can be normal. That's a start."
When he spoke about her being the 'face' of science, she knew that chance had already been blown. If anything, Andrei could be the one now. But even then, she knew he would want to stay.
"That chance is long gone. That was made abundantly clear to me, pirate. As far as doing it away from here, well, we'll just have to see about that. But there's just one problem."
She turned now to look at him with a steeled, blue gaze.
"You came here with Lex and I don't rightly like him very much. So if you came with him, that must mean I don't like you either."
She was deadly serious as she said that, having no trust for him or anyone else in this camp. The closest one to trust that she could manage to muster was Anthony and even then, she barely knew him either really.
Veran stood there and listened to the woman. She brought up some good points and he nodded when she mentioned that her chance to be the face of any science endeavors had probably gone out the window when she had attacked Lex and then when she had spouted off at that leader woman.
She continued talking and for a second it looked like they might he able to figure something out. Until she mentioned her dislike of Lex and that because of it she didn't trust him.
"I wasn't really with Lex. Yeah we showed up together but we're not traveling companions. Met him on the road about a year back. We hit a town that was too overrun for me to do it alone. After that he took off, with most of the supplies along with him. Only reason I trusted him when I met up with him again is because I kind of had to. Almost blew his brains out when I realized it was him."
He stood there for a second letting his words sink in.
"Don't distrust me on account of a man we both distrust."
Lex was about to walk off when Anthony said one very very critical thing to him. He owed the boy Yuri. It brought flooding back to mind Lex's time in the Military, all the men he served under, and over. He had been a SGT. He watched as the man walked over and grabbed a mop. Here he was, having nothing to do with this mess, and willing to clean it all up because he knew the poor bastard. No man left behind, no man forgotten.
"Dammit all..." He mumbled under his breath and removed his leather coat. He walked over to the boy and wrapped a towel around his head to help stop the bleeding. No point in cleaning up a near endless mess. He then placed the boys body on the cot.
Once on his feet, he noticed that Anthony was watching him, a small smile on his face. "For the boy, not the fucking powers in charge. You play by their fucking rules if you want to, but that shit ain't for me." He said as he walked over and grabbed a mop. The two of them would clean the mess up, and then tend to the body themselves. The fucking lap dogs had seen fit to give them mops and buckets to clean the mess, they could spare some shovels as well. It was clear they didn't care anyway. Less work for them, right?
