Before he could argue against them shackling him someone ran and attacked Lex, accusing him of theft and just all around saying he was a no good person. Normally the Pirate would have left now but within seconds his hands were shackled behind his back. He didn't know how to handle any of this, people were not something that the Captain was good at. As much as he hated to do this he needed to let the other one talk.
"Damn it all. Look I'm not insane. I've got my reasons for who I am now and maybe some day you will all hear about them but for right now I need you people to trust me."
He put his head down, tears streaming as he remembered the house. Remembered throwing himself helplessly at the wall of dead. He had felt absolutely helpless. What good did it do him to understand how a humans brain worked when these things acted nothing like any human he had ever seen before. These things were beyond his understanding and so he, the real person couldn't deal with them.
"I was a graduate student in Psychology. I had a case where someone adopted a secondary persona to deal with trauma. It worked for him. As a psychologist I helped put him back together. Found out he knew the whole time. That the whole thing was part act part coping mechanism. So when this all went down and my scientific knowledge of human psychology meant nothing... Well I became who I am now. It's worked. I've survived mostly on my own since then."
He motioned up and down with his head as if to motion to his attire.
"This is how I survive."
With that he sat down, or at least he tried to. The man that was controlling his arms via the cuffs had the ultimate decision on whether or not he would be allowed to do that and he really hoped that he would let him do so. Whether he was allowed to sit or not he let himself slip back into the persona that had allowed him to live through everything that had happened. The other one had used all of the energy he had to try and save them. He could do nothing more. He needed the pirate again if he was going to have any hope of continuing on.
"Might be yer heads can wrap 'round that?" he asked, hoping that it had been enough to convince them that he was not a threat.
