Tori looked up from her 3DS just in time to see something approaching through the darkness. She quickly jumped up to her feet and reached around to her back jeans pocket to grab her baton until her eyes adjusted to the dark to see that it was just a dog. The redhead cooled down and brought her hands back to her sides, raising them up to show she's harmless as she left the 3DS on the floor for now.
“Easy... Dog.”
Tori had no idea what gender it was yet so she was avoiding pronouns at the moment.
“I'm not going to hurt you.”
Tori took a step forward and watched to see how the dog would react before she made anymore. Last thing she wanted to do was antagonize it. Dogs can be vicious as hell when they're angry.
“Are you here by yourself?”
Seemed pretty random to find a dog here without an owner. She looked around a brief moment, but didn't see anyone else here before looking back at the dog waiting for it to respond. Tori wasn't sure how she'd feel if there were people here. It could be a good thing, and at the same time it could mean the polar opposite.

Dakota hefted her rifle back into both hands after Ash took control of the cart. She stopped to pop the wheel out on the heel of her left shoe. Mentally, she tried to go over all the things she probably left behind. ”I lost lotta clothes too. Lucky I think most of 'em were getting kinda small... except for all my winter clothes. Those were all still good sized. I still have one good swim suit fro wearing under everything... a second one wouldn't hurt. So many drawings and stickers gone too. I can get me and Clem more stickers and drawing stuff maybe too.”She pauses a moment, ”And I better not forget to get some bugs for Charlotte.”
She glanced into the cart at the can of corn, smiling, ”Yeah, that's good start.” Koda ducked and pushed off onto her heely wheel. The young girl glided out ahead of the cart and around it, her hazel eyes searching the shelves for other food items that might have been overlooked by previous scavengers. She reached in, pulling out one stray tipped over can in the back of one shelf. Garbanzo beans. Dakota frowned, but put the can down into the cart beside the can of corn.
Dakota looked around, calling out to Shadow, ”Here Shadow! Here boy! Stay with us! We'll get to the doggie food and treats soon.” She whistled to try and call the husky back, not yet seeing Shadow's new friend.

Clementine glanced briefly back at the sleeping baby, while she listened to Lilly. There was a twinge of sympathy brought by the woman's words. Old guilt over those lost or left behind welling up into renewed tears. What would Kenny had thought of her, if he had lived. If she just hadn't listened to that man and run away, she might still have big Lee and even Kenny still around. Of she had just spoken up or tried harder to find them back at the mansion in Miami, she might still have Clay or Damon and Sarah still with her. Or if she had tried to say something, maybe she could have coaxed Dakota to stay with Anthony and Vivian or coaxed them to come with them. And now Tala too... though Clem wasn't sure there was anything anyone could have done to stop that crazed band of heavily armed bandits.
She turned young, wet dark eyes up to Lilly, "I... After.... after talking with Koda, I decided it's best to give you one more chance. I... I think I understand now. So many... gave up everything just so we could make it this far. For them... you deserve one... and if it weren't for you, we... I might have lost Mark too. So thank you."
"Hopefully we can find some clothes for you two girls. Maybe Mark to." Shining his light on the shelves he couldn't see anything else in their aisle. As Dakota talked about the drawings they left behind Ash felt bad. They'd left so fast without grabbing their stuff. He still had his pack in the RV but they'd lost most of what they'd been traveling with.
Shadow's ear's perked at Dakota calling for him. He wagged his tail at the new girl. He barked twice at her before rushing back to the little girl. He bounced happily on his front paws as he barked at them. Happy of his new find he wagged his tail excitedly before moving back to the new girl. "Think he found soemthin." Shining his light after the husky he moved to the electronics aisle.
Lilly wrapped her arms around the little girl. She broke down crying holding onto Clementine. The loss of her father leaving the group and seeing the little girl alive released from its locked up cage. "I'm so sorry. I won't abandon you again" She gripped Clementine tightly.
She opened her eyes and spotted the curtain to the cab close. The biker and the baby gone. Slowly letting go of Clementine Lilly wiped her eyes off. "You don't have to thank me for taking care of Mark. The bullet didn't cause any real damage just the loss of his eye."
As she tossed and turned her nightmare took a darker turn. Her mother, best friend, and fiance were coming at her, backing her into a corner, their faces rotted and half eaten. Their growls got less distorted and began sounding like words: fault, blame, death, your. Her dream self shivered, she curled up into a ball in the corner, her face full of sorrow and regret. She cried, rocking herself back in forth in the fetal position, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry! I was too late! I was too late..."
She woke up in a cold sweat, the last few minutes had felt like hours to her mind; however, her body disagreed with her mind. Her body felt every bit of the aches and pains it felt an hour ago when she sat on the RV floor. Her words had floated out of her dreams and into the real world, she slightly laid still knowing full well that anyone still inside the RV that was up or a light sleeper, heard her pained moans. What face should she wear? There were no words to explain what she'd said in her unconscious state, at least not that she was ready to say.

Tori's answer came in the form of a young girl calling for the dog. Shadow? Name reminded Tori of a character from Final Fantasy VI. Hopefully the dog wouldn't slit his own mother's throat for a nickel. Although, that would be pretty awesome to see. The redhead heard the dog bark again and then saw a flashlight coming this way. Surely someone who trained a dog to be this friendly was friendly too, right? Right? Tori could always run if things went bad and she still had her nightstick and the baseball bat. That was better than nothing. Tori went back to where she left the 3DS and picked it up. She turned it off and placed it inside her jacket pocket. Looking at the game case she decided to pack some more games before turning around and waving her arms to get the person's attention.
“Over here! I'm friendly!”
I'm friendly? Oh, yeah, that's a nice greeting. Tori picked up her bat and made her way behind the counter in the aisle to say hello. Setting the bat down next to her before placing her arms on the counter and smiled.
“Welcome to Walmart. How can I help you?”

Mark smiled and returned the hug Clementine gave him. Watching her move to Lilly the biker stood up and picked up the little bundle on the seat. Closing the curtain behind him he sat in the drivers seat. The baby still asleep moved slightly as he sat down.
The biker watched the baby sleep. Lee reminded him of his daughter. Her missed her everyday and would give anything to hear her voice again. Lee began to get fussy and brought Mark back to Reality. Lee opened his eyes and looked up at Mark. Mark smiled at the baby. "Hey buddy."
Lee looked like he was going to cry but instead he reached up with his hand and grabbed Marks vest. "Its a little big for you." Mark let out a light chuckle as the baby started to grab for his hoodie and vest.

Dakota lamented the loss of Ash's old truck. Her old truck. Her home. The truck itself, and many of the things in it could be replaced, but a home and the memories it safeguards cannot. When the apocalypse had forced her into a nomadic life, that old truck had given her one thing very precious since civilization fell... a space to call her own. It was one corner in the bed of a pick up truck. It was also a center of safety and stability, when everything else around her was ever changing usually for the worse. She could always sleep easier in the cold, hard back of that truck on just a pile of blankets than she ever did in the warmest, softest but strange motel or mansion bed.
It's loss put an intangible, extra edge to her worries over losing Tala and the others. Shadow's excited barks pulled Dakota out of that heavy line of thought, and she smiled at the husky. "Good boy, Shadow."
The way Shadow ran back and forth, Ash had to be right, he had found something. "What do you think he found?" Shadow seemed more playful than alarmed, so Dakota was more curious and relaxed in turn. She still held her youth rifle more firmly, might be food or a new pet. The girl watched Ash and Shadow go ahead for a moment before she stooped and pushed off onto her Heely wheel. Though pets to be couldn't talk like that.
Dakota glided in low and fast, braking to a stop beside Shadow and a short distance from the counter. Shadow's calm diffused the little girl from aiming her rifle at Tori. She looked over the woman with practiced skepticism. Koda glanced back Shadow as of silently asking the husky what he thought. Her young features softened into a smile as she rose to her full 4'11" stature. "You must be telling the truth. Because Shadow can tell if someone is sketch, and he seems to like you."
Pushing the slightly too big cowboy hat further over her eyes to look more serious, Dakota looked more confused underneath its brim. "Do you really still work here?"
Tori slid over the counter and landed in front of it, keeping the bat pressed down against the ground and holding onto it like a cane as she looked at the pair and their dog.
“I haven't worked here period. First time I've even been to New Mexico. Tori's the name, is it just you three?”
An adult, a kid, and a dog. Not the first combination you think of when you think 'survivors' but Tori has seen stranger.
"No there are others. I'm Ash this little runt is Dakota." Ash kept his light on Tori. "We're looking for supplies and baby food." Shadow barked at Ash. "And dog food to." The dog wagged its tail as Ash pet the dog.

Clementine didn't want to forget what had happened, and she wouldn't. Clem's share of survivor guilt was more than heavy enough to make a little girl wonder if she had any right to even hold a grudge against Lilly. One more chance did seem the medium between her two opposing feelings.
The matter settled in her own mind, Clementine clung to Lilly, hugging her back. She shared in letting emotion flow. Lilly's promise and intentions seemed genuine enough. Clem let go, and smiled up at Lilly, while wiping her eyes clear. ”I'll hold you to it. We're going to need all the help we can with baby Lee around.”
It was then she heard Kiku's sleep talking up above. Clem glanced back to Lilly, ”I'll check on her.” She gave Lilly one more quick hug before she stood back up. ”For now... you and me are good.”
Clem could not help but peep behind the curtain to make sure Mark and Lee were alright, before she tried to climb up, and peep over the top of the bunk. Not as tall as Dakota, it was no go, even on tip toe. Clementine had to climb up and take a seat on the edge of the bunk be able to look back in to Kiku. Drying her own dark eyes, she tilted her head with concern, Are you alright? I don't think you have to be sorry. There wasn't much else any of use could have done back there.” A little voice chided quietly in the back of her own mind.
Why don't you listen to yourself, Clem.

Dakota made a face, sticking her tongue out at Ash. ”Papa Bear! I'm not a runt.” She sniggled, and pet Shadow over the ears. Glancing around she added, ”We're also looking for bugs for Charlotte. Can't forget about Charlotte just 'cuz there's other things to take care of now. Maybe I'll even find a friend for Charlotte.”

Kiku rolled over to face Clementine, her face was blank, void of emotion. She couldn't do this, she felt like crying but this wasn't the time. She opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out, she shook her head. She thought that Kiku felt guilty about last night. While she felt bad about what might be happening to those other people that were offering her a place in their group, she didn't feel responsible. She rubbed her amber eyes, "I shouldn't be sleeping." She swung her legs over the edge and jumped down. Kiku felt bad about dismissing Clem's kind gesture but they were still strangers. "Where'd the others go?" she asked after doing a quick head count.
BABY?! They had a baby? There were still infants left alive? Or was it a newborn baby? People were still having babies? Well, she supposed she could understand if people wanted to have sex and ended up pregnant because they couldn't find condoms or pills or whatever, but it's been years since Tori has seen an actual real live baby. She didn't envy it. She didn't envy any child who had to grow up in a post-apocalyptic world never knowing what life was like beforehand.
Ash laughed as Dakota stuck her tongue out at him. "You're always gonna be my runt no matter how big you get." A shiver went up his spine as Dakota brought up her pet spider. "You still have that creepy thing?" He looked at Tori as she asked about the baby.
"Yeah we have a baby." Ash thought back to finding out in the RV. "I don't know how old he is either." Reaching over he pushed Dakota's hat over her eyes. He smirked as Shadow barked at him. "What? I can pick on her." The dog wagged his tail and barked once more before moving to the girl. "You're welcome to join us. We're gonna discuss where were going next after we get back."
Clementine was sure Kiku could have said more, but it was understandable if she didn't want to. It was an awful long away down, so she was careful when sliding down. Clem shrugged with a swift glance around, "I was half asleep, but I think they went to collect... stuff."
How could she say no? Being in a group was the reason she managed to make it this far. Some people would argue your chances of survival was better on your own, and maybe they were right in some instances, but in other ways? Not so much. Tori couldn't imagine making it this far had she been the only one to make it out of Kansas alive. If not by walkers, bandits, or thieves, she would've just given up and starved somewhere. Tori pushed those thoughts away. They were so grim dark.
“Thank you. Thank you.”
Maybe she would be able to find her friends while traveling with them. Maybe they were already in the group with them.
“This may be a long shot, but, you don't happen to have any Shintas, Lilys, Junes, Nexs, or Marys in your group by any chance?”
Some of those names were pretty common, so if she got a yes she'd go on to describe what they looked like just to be sure. Last thing she wanted to do was give her hopes up.

Dakota gave a teenagery sort of sigh, perhaps even doing her eyes under her hat. "Papaaa Beeaaarrr.... gaaaahhh.." She pushed the brim of her hat back up, all pretense of trying to look serious totally ruined. Shaking her head, she snorted and playfully body bumped Ash sideways. She nudged her hat's brim even higher, and stuck her tongue back out at Ash again, laughing softly. Half-smirking she patted Shadow, "Good boy, least you're on my side."
She smiled to Tori, "Oh... I think we've known two Lilys. One of them is died back in Miami and one is back outside. Papa Bear and Clem know both better than I did... do? Did?"
Dakota frowned, momentarily somber and sour, "Fucking masked man." After a moment, she dried misty eyes, and pushed aside unpleasant old thoughts. She patted her hip, "Come on, Shadow. Let's go see of we can find a friend for Charlotte!" She left Ash to field any follow up questions, because he really had known and did know both Lilys longer than she had. Koda didn't run off that far, just to the nearest shelves to start looking and poking about underneath them.
Ash chuckled as Dakota took Shadow and went to look for supplies and a friend for her creepy spider. "We do have a Lilly traveling with us. You're welcome to meet her when we get back to the RV." Moving his light away from Tori he moved back to the Cart and grabbed it.
""Found her living in the back of a wrecked truck on our way to Miami. She's been glued to my side ever since." Ash threw a box of crackers into the cart. "It's hard raising a kid during this." Shining his light along the shelves he looked back at Tori. "Where are you from?"
