Tori's heart skipped a beat when Dakota mentioned the dead Lily back in Miami. No, it couldn't have been her. Miami was much too far away and it hasn't been that long since the group split up. Neither one of them could be her Lily. Still, just the thought of losing her best friend was enough to give her a heart attack.
“Never mind. The timing isn't right.”
Tori's eyes went down to the cart for a minute before Ash's question shook her away from her thoughts.
“Kansas. City, to be more exact. Kansas City. The Kansas side. There are two Kansas Cities the one in Missouri and then Kansas. I think I said Kansas enough. You?”
Ash picked up a can of peas. Checking the expiration date he threw it into the can as Tori told him where she was from. "I'm from San Antonio Texas. The only one that I'm aware of in what used to be these United States." He smiled at Tori as he shined his light along the shelves.
"Gotta warn you about Lilly. She's not to keen to new people joining." Ash kept searching the shelves as he talked. "She's had a rough time all of us have."
Dakota grabbed a shopping basket from the cart on her way to find a friend for Charlotte. Without a light of her own she would have to rely on her youthful eyes and the growing daylight. She set her rifle against the shelf and the basket down next to it. Kneeling down, she peered under the shelf.
Dakota slowly made her way up as she searched above and below, moving on to each shelf above until she was on her feet again. Her only reward was handfuls of cobwebs snd dust bunnies. No spider friends or food. She turned her head to Shadow, "Guess we keep looking. And maybe we should look for those clothes while its just you and me."
Leading Shadow on in their search, she grabbed her rifle and shopping basket. She kept on talking t Shadow, because she has always talked to Charlotte and Flowers, a spider and a stuffed animal. "I love Papa Bear an awful lot, but I'm getting boobs now... Which is why I want to find a second swimsuit. It'd be nice to have more than one. It's just... Stuff like that is way hella embarrassing to talk to your Papa Bear or Dad about, whether they are watching over your or safe back down here. That's one reason I miss V-nerd and Tala so much. Not that miss them more than Anthony or the other guys. Just some things, it was nice to have them around."
Dakota didn't know of Shadow understood her, but she chose to take the husky's single bark as voicing the direction her thoughts were turning. "Exactly! I hope so too. We just need to get know any.. Or all of them better first. I still hope we find Tala and V-nerd too."
Lilly looked at Clementine. "They took the dog and went into Wal-Mart to look for supplies." Lilly looked at the curtain that had Mark and the baby behind it. She smiled at Clementine before standing up. "I do have some chalk left over from you guys at the motel. Though i lost the pink one the other colors are still there."
Lilly opened a drawer and pulled out the remaining chalk. "Don't leave them out for Ash's dog. Stupid thing tried to eat them when I met Ash." Lilly giggled thinking back to it. It was one of the few good memories she has of her travels during the outbreak. "I think Ash tried to eat it." Came the gruff voice of the biker. Mark pulled the curtain back carrying the baby.
Mark kept his attention on the baby as it cooed and made noises pulling on the bikers hoodie and vest. Snapping out of his trance he looked back at the curtain not hearing any more crying coming from the back the biker stood up. "Don't leave them out for Ash's dog. Stupid thing tried to eat them when I met Ash."
Mark grabbed the curtain and opened it. "I think Ash tried to eat it." Mark kept the baby in his arm as it pulled on his vest's patches. "I don't think that dog would do anything like that." Smirking he had to bend his back to keep his head from hitting the ceiling.
The pair walked on through the Wal-Mart, Dakota checking a couple shelves along the way for spiders.... and food too. She stayed off her wheels, since gong too fast might missing a spider. Mostly she was focused on finding what was left of the clothing department. Since the store was so thoroughly looted already, most of what she found was strewn across the floor, and proved either too small or too big. In her search, she came across a couple shirts that she and Clem could split later, and a pair of jeans. Even a a couple articles of clothing filled up her shopping basket pretty fast.
Dakota rolled the clothing up to pack them more compactly into one end of the basket. Space at a premium, she had to be choosy. The fact there wasn't much to choose from made it easy. Koda held up the more promising articles of clothing up to herself to see how they fit, and get Shadow's opinion. Her travails through scattered piles, finally gave up a few girls swimsuits to choose from. She picked out a teal two piece and one or tow others that might fit Clem should they get a chance to go swimming.
She and Shadow strolled on beyond the clothing piles, the growing morning light making searching the shelves way easier without a light now. Her hazel eyes started scanning the shelves ahead. Lots of empty space and more cobwebs. Then she spotted something skitter. Dakota knew the builders of all these cobwebs had to be here somewhere.
Dakota peered under the shelving, where she had seen motion. Whatever it was, was good at hiding, even her young eyes couldn't find where it went in the deeper shadows still cast under the shelving. She'd keep looking, but there was a forgotten can of something upon one the lower shelves. ”Look at this Shadow. It's.... chilli!!” Turning the can over, her young face fell a little, ”Aww.... vegetarian chilli. It's not Uncle Rob's turkey chilli, but I guess me and Papa Bear can put the first thing we hunt together in it. Then it will special in its own way.
A bit further down the way, she came across some refuse. Kicking through it, she noticed an empty plastic bottle. Hmm, she was gong to be needing a home for Charlotte's new friend, if she could find one. The bottle went right into the shopping basket with the clothes and can of chilli. Dakota stopped to scruff Shadow around the ears and neck. ”Good boy.”
Across the way, she spotted a rack of stickers and a school supply aisle. Not a priority for most people in the end of days, there was plenty to choose from. Dakota loaded up on stickers, markers, crayons, notepads, scissors and glue before returning to her spider search.
Dakota was about ready to turn back when she caught sight more skittering. She moved in low, and saw bunch of them down under the shelf this time. Cellar spiders, one a couple different creatures often called daddy long legs. She cahsed them with her hand, ending up herding two them onto her arm. ”Hey guys. Wanna come with me?” It wasn't like the spiders had a choice.
She grinned back to Shadow, ”Come on Shadow. Time to go back. Race ya!” Giggling, she prepped rifle, and basket together in one hand, cellar spiders crawling over the other. The girl pushed off on her heely wheel, and came gliding back to Ash and Tori. She held up the hand she let the spiders crawl on. ”Look Papa Bear! I found cellar spiders!”
Kiku looked out the window to see the big WAL-MART logo outside the building. It looked wrecked and unkempt. Obviously these past two years have not been kind to this store, but this could be said about anywhere you went these days. She sighed, taking a step away from the window. She really wanted to take a peak inside, she liked finding new things...even if they didn't benefit her survival. The fact that the others were already inside meant that she wasn't welcome to go in, if she did it would cause problems. Maybe if they stuck around for a little while after they got back she could sneak inside to take a look around.
What he said about Lilly didn't exactly come as a shock. Everyone was weary of strangers, as they should be. Her Lily wasn't all that different. Always overprotective of the group. She was like a dad in that respect.
“Don't blame her. If it would make her feel more at ease I only plan to stick around until I find out what happened to the rest of my group. We got separated back in Oklahoma.”
Tori looked over in time to see Dakota and Shadow racing back to their location and the spiders crawling on the girl's hand. Gross.
Ash shined his light back at Dakota. Seeing the Spiders moving on her hand he got ready to freak out but calmed down seeing they were daddy long legs. "She really is Spider Woman." Shadow had raced Dakota back to Ash and Tori. The dog panted and wagged his tail happily at the group.
"You know the rules with them Bunnicula. They stay in their containers." Ash said as Shadow started sniffing the cart. Ash pet the dogs head and got a happy content sigh from the dog before he moved up to Tori. He wagged his tail at her staring at her panting.

Clementine immediately went to open the drawer. She smiled big and bright stung the familiar chalk. A bit of melancholy diluted her smile the longer she looked, but her smile remained intact none the less. "I can't believe you still have these."
She reached one hand to her pigtails. "Then... I still have these ties you gave me. " Still smiling, she scooped the pieces of chalk up, and went to hug Lilly. Seeing Mark, she swung her hugging around to him next. She was careful of baby Lee in his arms.
Clem backed up, chalk in hand, and pointed to Lee's diaper bag. "We left baby Lee's stuff there by the bench." She yawned and rubbed her eyes with a free hand, "He shouldn't have eaten to long ago."
Sitting back on the bench, she dug out a notepad from her pack. Clem realized she had no leaves to make rubbings of. Maybe she could find some here before they left. The little girl glanced up to Kiku, "Want to draw with me? "

Dakota beamed ear to ear, it wasn't often her super fandom for animals got a chance to shine through. A very small part of still wished she could be a vet or zookeeper when she grew up. She slipped her basket of goodies into the cart. "Of course, Papa Bear. These kind of daddy long legs are called cellar spiders. There's a couple different critters people called daddy long legs, and these ones are spiders. And I think cellar spiders might eat black widows, so I have to keep them separate from Charlotte." She looked the spiders over more closely before wrangling them into their new plastic bottle home. "Aren't they hella cool?? I'm gonna name them Wilbur and Templeton."
She hadn't even noticed one of them had bit her hand, until it started to itch. Looking at the back of her hand, Kota saw the bite was no worse than a mosquito's. She added to her previous cellar spider factoids "It's also not true that daddy long leg spiders have fans too short to bite humans. They do, but luckily their poison is actually pretty weak. I saw it on a show called Mythbusters. You know, when there was still TV." She lightly itched at the back of her hand.
Dakota looked down into the cart and pointed, "I also found where there's some okkay clothes. I can show you. We still need to find baby stuff for Lee though."
Kiku watched the little girl sit down to color, she'd almost forgotten how young Clem actually was. She walked over and slowly sat down, she sat their awkwardly unsure of what she should do.
Tori squat down in front of Shadow and stroked her hands down the back of his head while smiling at him. She always wanted a dog growing up, but they never had any room back at the house. There was barely enough room for them let alone an animal. It was nice to see an animal after going so long without. She couldn't even remember the last time she saw a bird. Her attention went back to the duo when Dakota mentioned the P word.
“Poison? How weak is pretty weak? I mean, poison is poison isn't it?”
Concern was written all over the redhead's face as she stood up to her feet. Her eyes didn't catch Dakota scratching the back of her hand and she likely wouldn't have thought much of it anyway. Her eyes were still adjusting to the dark after spending hours staring at her 3DS screen for so long. Tori's vision was slowly starting to come back to her.
“Clean clothes. That'd be nice. I can't remember the last time I had clean clothes. Or a shower. Or any contact with water for that matter. I wish the water fountain here still worked.”
Ash watched Dakota scratch the back of her hand. He gave her hand a light swat. "Stop scratchin it Bunnicula." Ash had been bitten by plenty of things during his hunting trips. The irritation would get worse the more she scratched it. His wife had told him numerous times.
The dogs let out a sigh as Tori pet the back of his head. Loving the attention he wagged his tail and move around the group excitedly. Shining his light Ash illuminated a sign marking the aisles and what used to be stocked there. "Alright Bunnicula and Tori from Kentucky city Kentucky. Lets grab Baby Lee some of his shit."
Ash smiled at the two shining his light down the other aisles. He started walking dragging the cart behind him. Shadow made his way infront of Ash almost tripping him.

Clementine realized Kiku would need a surface to draw on, and thought it would be rude not to offer one. She dug into Dakota's backpack, borrowing one of her friend's bigger books. She also drew out a small solar powered toy. A little plastic dancing flower of a yellow generic cartoonish variety. It bore a cheery, simple and whimsical smiling face.
Setting the toy flower down on the bench, the growing morning light set it into its equally whimsical little side to side wiggle dance. The young girl laughed when watching it dance for a moment. "A woman named Vivian gave this to me and Koda. Hopefully you'll get to meet her when we get to Colorado. She's really smart and nice. Viv said another little girl she knew held onto it for her while she was at a farm. Now we're holding onto it for her too. It's just fun to watch, especially when you're feeling a little sad. I think I'm gonna draw another picture of it, since we left all our pictures back in out truck at the hotel. And maybe you can help me find some leaves to do rubbings of. I don't know how many we'll find out around here."
She pulled crayons from her pack, setting them and the chalk together by the dancing flower. The crayons were well-worn, but expanded on the chalk's limited color palette. Taking a sheet of paper for herself, she laid it over the borrowed book on her lap. Clem offered the notepad over to Kiku, and took the yellow chalk to start her picture of the dancing flower.

Dakota, like most, had not gotten to learn the subtle differences between venom and poison. A main difference being that poison is usually absorbed from the outside, while venom is injected directly into the bloodstream by fang or stinger. So many differences, but whichever it was, the envenomated little bump was barely itchy at worst. Dakota didn't think twice about it, until asked. She smiled to Tori, "Yepyep! I think all spiders are. It's how they hunt and eat they're food! It's hella sweet! Once they catch they're food, they bite their venom in and let it turn their food into juices on the inside, so they can drink it later!"
She glanced to Ash, still scratching the back of of her hand. The girl then did cease itching to glance at the mild bite. Turning her hazel eyes back up to Ash, "I'm not scratching it." Her tone of voice was oh so innocent, and it was all true... If you only counted the last couple seconds since she started that sentence. Dakota honestly tried to scratch her bite, but the nagging tingly irritation wore at her will. When she thought Ash was not looking, she slide her hand behind her back to rub the itchy bite on the back of her dress. Rubbing an itch is technically not scratching it.
Dakota managed to get her mind off the mild bite a couple moments later though. Smiling to Ash, "Here, Papa Bear. I'll push the cart for a little." She set her rifle in the cart and put her hands on the cart's handle. "Come on Wilbur, Templeton, let's see of Shadow wants to race!" The young girl set her heely wheel down, and pushed off with the other foot. Together, girl and cart wheeled ahead. If she got more than two aisles in the lead, she just lapped back around via the passing aisles.
“That's not what I meant,” Tori told Dakota. She was about to specify what she meant until Ash spoke up.
“Kansas,” Tori corrected.
Tori followed behind the lot. They seemed cheerful enough for a group living in a post-apocalyptic world. It was a nice change of pace. Usually Nex was the one always making jokes and cracking wise in the old group. Not that Tori could blame anybody for being more serious than they would normally be given the circumstances.
“I don't suppose you guys have a spare flashlight or something?”

Dakota brought herself and the cart to a slow as she lapped Tori and Ash. Laughing, she grinned at Shadow, "You win, boy!" She ruffled the husky's ears and reached into rhe cart to pull something out she had found in one of the aisles.
She held it up to Tori, "I don't have one, but I found this. You can have it if Ash doesn't have a spare one." It wasn't much, being a small, round neon blue plastic keychain with an LED light you had to squeeze to light up. It gave a pinprick of light meant to light a doorknob in a dimmed doorway, though bright for it's small size.
She smiled to Tori and hopped onto the back of the cart again. She pushed one foot off the floor to propel her ride forward. "I think saw some of the baby stuff in this aisle just right here." Steering and riding the cart something like a skateboard, she took into the last aisle ahead she had disappeared into before lapping back around.
Kiku took the notepad offered to her, she looked at it wondering what she should do. She had very little artistic ability, but was better than she gave herself credit for. Her father took to her education like he did her Oriental Fighting training. Each class she took was important, even art. She had to work hard to get her good grades, it was because of this she was a mediocre artist. She didn't like to think of what her skills were like now, it had been so long her skills were probably no existent now. She instead picked up one of the crayons and with her much practiced skills in calligraphy wrote the characters for family. Around the big character she began writing smaller characters.
Ash pat his coat pockets looking for a spare flashlight. "{color=blue]Sorry i duct taped my only one to my bow. Sorry.[/color]" The Texan let out a snort at the tiny light Dakota gave to Tori. "Well there ya go. Careful you might go blind if you stare into it for too long."
Ash watched Dakota Jump back onto the cart and down the aisles. Shadow chased her down the aisle enjoying the chase. "I'd love to have the energy those to have." Rubbing his eyes Ash could feel the effects of driving all night settling in.
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
