Maxine's mind was all over the place. She was trying not to worry about her brother too much in an attempt to keep her focus on what was happening around her. Darwin was the only person who truly cared about her and she couldn't bare losing him. Especially if the last things she had said to him were teasing remarks. Those words were the last thing she wanted for final words to the man she looked up to so much.
Thankfully Yameki's question brought her back to some kind of focus. Her head nodded quickly before her she said anything. "Yes. My brother." Max was relieved to know her terrible attempt at speaking Japanese had worked to a low exstent. Then Yami went on in Japanese and her expression of fear and hope shifted toward confusion. She bit down on her lip as her head shook from side to side. "I don't understand. I'm sorry." Emphasizing the apology part to try and make that clear.
Despite the lack of knowing the language he just spoke Maxine went on in English. "Should we do something? What if they got the others?" She asked. Her dark brown eyes took a glance down at the revolver in hand ready. She hoped it wouldn't have to be used today but it appeared unlikely.

Yameki listened as she confirmed that Darwin was the other Onishi in question, and could only smile a little sadly as he watched confusion wash over her face. It had been a shot in the dark, he knew that. But he didn't see any harm in grasping at straws; after all, in this world, all he had were straws. He nodded as she apologized, taking no offense. He waved his hand in front of his nose, a reassuring gesture within his own culture. "That is okay. You say thank you in Japanese, so I could not be sure."
The lighthearted conversation didn't last for long. As much as Yameki wanted to distract himself, his mind was up at that gate with everyone else. Maxine asked what they should do, if they should join them, and he thought on it in tense silence. In a way, he wanted to rise up and join them at the gate, to give them a helping hand if they needed it. But Yameki was also rational, and fiercely loyal. They had been ordered to come down here for a reason, and to join them at the gate would not only be direct disobedience, but it could be more of a hindrance than a help. The more people that fled to the gate, the more people they had to protect.
Yameki shook his head, his own pistol resting ready in his palm, and tried to articulate all of this in a way that he hoped she would understand. "We should stay here. Thadd, Sarah, Becky, Sam, they all say we stay here. We should listen." The loud banging from the gate ate at him, made him restless, but he let out a slow breath and tried not to let his anxiety influence the atmosphere of the cellar. "If we go, they must worry for us. They might be distract. But if we stay here, they can fight, they know we are safe."
He bit his lower lip and watched her, hoping that she understood his reasoning. They were all going to worry regardless, but at least this way, the crew at the gate could hopefully rest a little easier.
The order was given and Josie felt her head slammed against the trunk of the car the bandit had her pinned against. She looked, as best she could, at Thad and screamed out. "Thad! No!" She didn't know if she could take a beating or not and she was about to find out.
She felt a fist into her back, hitting against a kidney and immediately she felt as if she was about to throw up. She slumped against the car and the raider turned her around, grabbing her by the throat, squeezing hard as her hands came to his wrists. He wrangled one hand free from her and smashed his fist against her cheek. She felt the warm stream of blood trickling down her mouth from her nose and she found herself go wobbly against the car. She cried out with every blow.
The raider backed off and pushed her to the ground where he kicked her in the ribs, causing her stomach to fold and her body to curl up in self preservation mode. He wasn't quite done yet as he spoke.
"This is what you get for shooting at us. You should have listened to the big boy over there."
Another fist came down on her face, against her head, followed by another blow to the back as he kicked her. She felt herself grabbed by the scruff of her shirt and hair, dragging her along the ground until he picked her up by the arms where she felt dizzy and broken. He grinned at her bloody face and threw her down to the ground next to Thad.
She rolled over slowly and closed her eyes as her voice spoke quietly. "Thad, I'm sorry."
Sarah stood silent, listening. He gave orders and she watched his men carry them out. If they had more time, things would have gone very different for them.
He wanted to speak to someone in charge, after he laid out what they wanted. No way in hell they were giving them anything. They'd worked to hard. <God give me strength and wisdom> ran through her mind.
Sarah caught how Thad looked at her, and she stepped forward." You want someone in charge, that'd be me." Sarah had seen men like this, bullies, but in truth, he was just scared. " you want half, food, supplies, I want your thugs on the other side of that gate" she glanced around," get your men off my property and we can talk."
Two men went into the house. One was overweight, bald, older in she. His face was freshly shaven, and he dressed in a simple over shirt and jeans. The other man was shorter, long hair falling to his shoulders. He had a patch of hair on his chin, and a scar along his jaw. Both men carried assault rifles, had some sort of ballistic vest on.
The came into the house, made a lot of noise in doing so.
"Come out come out little cowards," the fat man said as he moved around the house.
"I hear something, coming from downstairs," scruffy said moving to the cellar door. He pushed agaisnt it, trying to open it. Then with a single kick it flew open. Both men went down the stairs, saw all the people clumped together, cowering.
At the front was Louis, he came forward.
"Alright, everyone out, up and at 'er," fat man spoke, "hurry outside, before we drag you out. Hate to have any resistance, wouldn't want us to just have to shoot your friends now would we. You don't move, they die. Now get out, into the yard."
Scruffy aimed his gun, miffed at Louis's feet. They were trying to show they meant business. He could see them getting riled up, nervous. Some of the girls were crying, breaking down. Others were helping them, up the steps, into the yard. Slowly they all left.
"You stupid of soemthing," Fat man said, pointing his sausage finger at Yameki. "Move it boy."
"Fuck this," he said grabbing Yameki's arm. He pushed him to the ground. Grabbing the back of his neck the man hauled him outside, pushing him along. Once in the yard he simply shoved him into the dirt with the others.
Down in the basement the fat man aimed his gun at the others, forcing them out, forcing them into the yard. It was either they listened, or death.

The one he ordered to best Josie did just that. He watched it happen, the way her face bled from the hits. How the other around reacted. They would submit, or this would be there fate. Kennedy half expected the big guy to step forward. Say he was the leader, fight. Instead he remained where he was, didn't move, didn't flinch.
Kennedy twirled the crowbar. "A little soft don't you think. I wanted to hear a crunch, see bone. But she doesn't look like she's going to be a problem anymore, does she." He grinned, "now hopefully that's enough, show you all not to fight back, or next time I may leave the fucking no killing part out." He moved around, in front of all the people. "Let me ask again, which one of you sacks of shit is the leader."
He moved around. Seeing Sarah step forward he looked her up and down. Behind her the ones hiding inside were brought out, anyone who was on the farm was now gathered in the yard, all around, looking at him. He set his eyes on Sarah, listened to what she said. All Kennedy could do was simply smile.
"Now why would I go do something as so fucking stupid as that sweet heart. Why would I give up my upper hand, my power. See either way we take the fucking supplies, we get that no matter what. Something they never seem to comprehend in their thick skulled tiny brain. We take what we want, and should be lucky it's only fuckig half. Now there's two ways we do this. I'm not letting my men leave. See I need them, they want the supplies too. This isn't a fucking negotiation, your ass has no fuckig say."
Kennedy walked up,right before her. "So we do it the easy way, or we do it my favourite way." He pointed down to Josie with the crowbar in his hands. "Just look at the poor girl, isn't that enough, you want that to happen to you. There is no talk, you get no say. I don't give a shit what you have to say. You just need to decide wether you'll hand over half the fucking supplies, or if I should just take them."
He folded his arms. "So what's it gong to be. Or do I have to make an example out of one of you. You don't seem to think I'm serious, keep calling my bluff. Maybe I should kill one of you, show I mean business. Hell, maybe I kill you bitch. Maybe you take the crowbar and end you right now." He grinned again.
"Here's how it works, we will take half your supplies. Leave you the other half, we don't want you to die. Then next month, we come back, take half again, then we wait two months, take half again. We keep going, until it becomes so regular its second nature, or until your group dies. Yeah, I might be a bully, they might be thugs. But that's the way it is sweetheart, that's the way it wil, be. Now you just need to decide, you going to hand it over, or should we take it."

Thad felt his fists clenched as the raider hit Josie. He moved forward, he knew he couldn't do anything, not with this many guns pointed at them. They would die, he would die. So all he could do was watch. He winced with every punch, every blow to the back. "Enough no more," he called out, but the raider kept hitting.
Kennedy didn't think it was enough. As Josie landed at Thadd's feet she said she was sorry. Thadd dropped down beside her. "It's okay, it will be fine," he said looking up at Kennedy. They had to leave, no one else needed to get hurt. His eyes fell to Sarah. Thadd held Josie, she was in pain, whiped the blood off her face.
Sarah's topped forward, said she was the leader. "No, don't," he said but it was to late, she was before Kennedy. She tore into him calling him a bully, his men thugs. But Kennedy rolled with it, spouted out words. He admitted to it just being power, and not giving it up. Thadd watched him, listened to what he said. They were getting supplies no matter what.
"Sarah, we should just give it to them. No one needs to die. They are going to take it no matter what, you can't convince them. If you don't they'll just take it. We can't fight them. You know we can't. They have backed into a corner, no way out."

It was all happening so fast. The raiders, their leader. One best Josie, Sam flinched in horror. He had almost fired, Matt did too. That could have been them. They could have been best, bloodied like she was. He looked away. Thadd said not to fight, but they couldn't just let them take everything, they had to protect the farm, protect the supplies.
Sam watched Sarah approached him, said to turn his men away, that wouldn't happen, then he would be out numbered. They were just as armed as his men, but out numbered. But the farm had given up their guns as Thadd ordered. They were doing it, so no one died. Sam didn't know what to do, he felt defeated, scared.
From the house he saw Louis leading the people, out, they were scarred shaking, forced in the with others. Where was Yameki? Where was he? Sam couldn't see him, what did they do to him? Then a man came out, holding Yameki by the back of his neck. He pushed him to the dirt, Sam moved forward.
"Don't touch him," he yelled only to get shoved back, into the dirt with Yameki. Sam looked at his friend. He could tell he was confused, scared. Sam placed a hand on his arm. "Yam, it will be fine. Be....okay."

Matt heard how the leader ordered to beat Josie. He said a few other things, but all the other sound faded, when Matt saw how Josie got beaten by one of them. He didn’t hear a word of what he said, all he could do watch how the beat Josie, he felt so powerless, he wanted to help the poor girl, but he would be dead even before he would reach her. The ass finally stopped and Josie felt in front of Thad, who grabbed her in his arms. He could have cried that moment, from both sadness and anger, but he stayed strong.
His head turned to Sarah as she said she was in charge, Thad tried to stop her, but harm was already done. Matt heard how she tried to bargain with their leader and he heard how Thad told her to just give it to them, he didn’t want anyone else to be hurt, or worse dead. Matt didn’t know who to follow, Sarah was brave for doing what she did, but Thad was right too.
The leader reacted and not in a good way, he talked a lot, but the his final choice was to either hand the supplies over willingly or they just kill them all and take them. Matt hated that there wasn’t a thing he could do. Meanwhile the other raiders had found their people, one of them came outside with Yameki holding him by the back of his neck. Sam immediately jumped on him telling the raider not to harm him, but was immediately shoved down in the dirt next to Yam.
Matt had just about enough of it, Sam and Yam where his friends. He walked closer to the guy that shoved Sam down. “That’s enough, you hurt enough of us already!” he yelled and planted is fist on the guy his cheek. Immediately five guns where aimed at him, Matt had been dumb, but he had to defend his friends. He now raised his hands, he didn’t want to get or get anyone killed because of him.
The guy he just knocked in the face, now clenched his fist and slammed Matt in his stomach, causing Matt to drop on the ground, clearly in pain. Another kick against his back followed, Matt winced as he felt the kick. The guy then stopped since he was back in control, Matt stayed down, trying to catch his breath and recover from the hits he got.

The debate on whether or not to join the others at the gate was quickly remedied when the cellar doors got kicked in. Louis stood up and tried to stand his ground, but the men that barged down the stairs spat words Yameki couldn't understand. They had some kind of accent that cloaked their words, and the loud volume made it difficult to discern what they were saying. Combined with the cries of women who were starting to break down, their threats and demands were like crackles of fireworks in his ears.
The larger man said something to him, his face in an annoyed twist as the others started to file out of the cellar. Yameki tried to read his lips, to listen for buzz words, but he fell short. He thought he called him stupid, and then said something about 'movie boy.' Yameki knew he must have misunderstood something somewhere along the way, and he froze in fear as the man approached. The grip on his arm was rough and as he was flung to the floor, he winced as his elbows skidded along the ground. He started to sit up, only to be grabbed by the back of the neck.
This was it. This was like Michigan all over again. Raiders, all of a sudden, everywhere at once. The promise that he made to Jimmy, to live, compromised by them. As he was forced up the stairs, he thought on the deceased male, and wished that he had been there. He had always been good at handling tense situations, at keeping him safe. Yameki stumbled over his feet as he walked, frightened and disoriented, and the wrought iron grip on his neck tightened. His eyes scanned the faces at the gate, and at first, all he saw was raiders. Thadd was cradling someone, and from the distance, when he couldn't see Sam, he panicked. His eyes darted around the familiar faces, but as they got closer, he spotted the man and let out the breath that he didn't know he had been holding.
He was thrown to the ground and nudged towards the others with the fat man's boot. He shielded his eyes as dirt kicked up into his face, and he heard Sam call out in his defense. Flat on his back, he shot up when Sam hit the ground and instinctively moved over him out of protection. "Don't hurt him," he pleaded. When the man left them alone for a second, he turned his gaze to Sam, and when he touched his arm and told him it would be okay, he didn't know whether or not it would. He was terrified, and as Sam did his best to comfort him, he placed his hand over Sam's and have it a reassuring squeeze. He looked into his eyes and tried to read the fear there, but didn't hold his gaze for long. Matt jumped to their defense, and he heard the sound of skin hitting skin before he saw it. But to his surprise, it was Matt who hit the man.
But it didn't take long for the man to return to favor. "Stop," Yameki whispered as Matt was hit. He couldn't take the sight of it, the idea of his friends being hurt. He had just found this place, just made it his home. These people, his friends, to see them being injured shattered him. Matt was one of the sweetest men he had ever met, and Sam had become an important fixture in his life. Seeing either of them get pushed or hit made him start to breathe with panicked, shallow breaths, and the very idea of what Sam could have endured before his arrival made fresh, horrified tears spring to his eyes. Matt fell to the ground and he was kicked hard in the back. "Stop!" Yameki said as Matt didn't get up. He pulled away from Sam only long enough to hover over his body, trying to protect him with his own. Stressed, he forgot his English and cried out in frenzied Japanese, shielding his body. "Yamete! Onegai, yamete! Kizutsukenaide!"
Perhaps it was because he had regained control over Matt once he backed down. Perhaps it was because the sudden outburst of another language surprised him. Or perhaps it was even just how pathetic Yameki probably looked crying in the dirt, but the man left them alone. He rubbed Matt's back with one hand, trying to will his breath back into his lungs, and looked to Sam for guidance with glazed eyes. He placed his hand in the dirt beside them, ready to spring up if he needed to.
Josie closed her eyes to the pain that was rising in her body. Never had anything like that happened to her before and she had no idea what she was experiencing here. They could have defended the place and had a chance instead of laying down their arms. She fought, she fired, she wanted to stave these raiders off and prove to them they weren't about to lay down for a group of thugs. That was the McCoy blood in her. Fight until there was no more fight left.
And she paid the price for that.
She felt herself gathered up by Thad as he protectively tried to shield her from anything else that would come her way. She felt herself cough and with that cough came a burning sensation deep in her stomach. More blood came up and out of her mouth, splattering some on Thad's pants and on the ground as she felt her body heave from this pain.
She heard the words about supplies and how maybe one should die as an example to the rest. She heard the voices near the house but everything was a blur. If she could get that bullet to take away this pain, maybe she should be the one. At least she was the one that died fighting.
There was nothing she could say as anything that came out of her mouth would likely be followed with a stream of hot blood that seemed to bubble from the bottom of her stomach. She wanted to vomit again. Just like when she saw her sister and father, the dread and heartache that came with that pain made her stomach turn in three different directions. Now the thought of losing the farm and her own possible death loomed right in front of her face.
She kept her eyes closed and stayed in Thad's arms, feeling him slowly rocking her as if she were a child with a fever. She tried to open her eyes, but they were now swollen so badly that even blinking hurt. How could a man order such a beating? Wouldn't he have been better off just killing her? Her heart started to blacken from the experience and the revenge she vowed for her family was now spilling into revenge for these people that she barely knew.

Darwin watched as one by one, members of the group were attacked, beaten or otherwise subdued. For now, he did as the rest did and followed instructions. When the attackers moved towards the house, Darwin froze. If Maxine was still in there, he hoped she was either well hidden or moved out the back. What more could he do right now, though? The answer was very little.
He was worried though that if she didn't get out, and something happened to her...
He wasn't going to let anything happen though. Not to her. If something did, he'd never be able to forgive himself for it. He was shoved to the ground by one of the men that stormed the gate, but his eyes never left the house.
Be chill and wait. Wait for your chance. Now ain't it. If you do something now and fuck it up, she's dead too.
It was true and he knew it. As much as he hated it, he knew it was the right course for now. But if they didn't do something, who was to say they wouldn't get shot without even putting up a fight. He looked to Thadd, Matt and Josie. His eyes wandered to each member of the group out here. They needed to all be on the same page and they needed to act together. The problem was, when could they and how much time did they really have? Was it safe to take them for their word that they were just going to take half of their food?
Darwin focused on the house before he looked back to the gate. If they really wanted to take just half of their food, they needed to hurry and leave.
Sarah had enough of this bullying shit. She watched them terrorize Yami and Sam, and Matt.
Thad said to do what they want, fine, but this stopped right now. She took another step towards their leader," THAT'S ENOUGH!" She shook her head," you know, you people are not very smart! " she glanced at the men near Yami and the others," you want half, fine, but you keep hurting my people and you won't get anything! You want a place to come back and get more supplies, then we need people , strong and healthy for the run and to harvest the damn food! You really need to think this through!" She was on a roll," oh, you're right, this place was a good find, we've made it work, got food, water, and looted the surrounding area, but how many places like this do you really think is out there, honestly? Not too damn many!" She waved her hand, indicating the farm," this takes work, and we need healthy people to make it work, you wanna keep coming back for more, then you NEED to get your men outside the damn gate and stop beating the men who will be working to get you that more you want to come back for!" She looked at Yami and Matt," now, we can get the stuff together, bring it out, but you and your men need to back the hell off a little, you've made your damn point, but you keep abusing us and you won't get shit long term."
These men were the definition of an asshole. The two that came into the celler seemed ugly as fuck. Of course that could be simply be her own dislike for their tactics coming into judgement. Maxine said nothing and remained that way while editing the celler. She made sure Ella wasn't to far away from her even though their was no use in being closed. The power of friendship couldn't stop a bullet or the blade running over someone's flesh. All it did was cause more pain because you cared for the other.
Dark brown eyes squinted as the sunlight was once on her face. She switched her gaze desperately looking for Darwin amongst them. A sigh of relief came over her knowing that Darwin was safe for now. How long would it be until somebody died for no good reason? Would it be her? What about Ella or the others? What if it was Darwin? The mere idea of losing Darwin made the feeling of tears welt up and a chill to run under her skin. For once the talkative teen was very silent and without words. Simply watching what unfolded in hope that it turned out okay.

Kennedy as the men brought the ones from inside out. All were gathered, clumped together. One of the smaller ones who was already inside came forward, tried to stop him from the other one who spouted some other language at his men. The smaller one was shoved back, landing on his ass. He got defensive. Then another guy stepped forward.
Kennedy watched as the guy took a swing, cracking his man in the neck. He had half the nerve just to end the kid right there. Finnish him off. Weren't the told to stand down. Immediately after getting punched his man turned the table. Beating a kicking at the kid. "Enough," he yelled. They knew not to hurt them, not unless nessasary, or ordered. The kid hadn't killed anyone, just a punch. His man also knew then consiquences of doing things they weren't told, going against what was said. Later tonight, he would have his last drink, and then die. At least he had that to look forward to tonight.
The man backed off, he killed Matt, he would have died right there. The man should have known better. They weren't after revenge. Kennedy smiled as Sarah spoke. She knew nothing. This place, they knew nothing. "You folk really are fucking stupid aren't you," he said with a laugh, "you can't fucking negotiate. You don't stop our actions. We will do what we want, regardless of what you say, what you beg. What you want don't mean shit to me."
He rubbed his jaw. "Get your stuff together. No one needs to fucking die. I don't want to hurt all of you. You're right, we need you tucking alive, so you can find and harvest all the shit for us. Which is why I'm only going to kill ten of you. See you people don't seem like you are one to listen. The other places I can across they roll over and let my jiggle there balls. You, you killed my men, keep fighting. Armed soldiers at your fucking gates, a turret on a fucking humvee. And you dumbases, keep fucking fighting."
He smiled. "Now usually I'd just mow you down, take everything and move on. But this group, you seem like you get shit done. Year ago, these walls weren't here. Year ago there wasn't this many fucking people here." He tucked a hand in his belt loop. "But I still need to send a message. So ten of you, will die. You don't need ten people to gather what you have now, you don't need ten to fulfill the run. If so, I'll judge what you have next month, and set a quatoa from there."
He moved around. "Now you can either pick ten people have them step forward. They can be the hero, puff their chest, take one for the team. Or I'll choose ten at random, end their life right here. Right now. That's how it's gonna work. No ones going to leave. No one will act out, or they will just add to the numbers. See I'm being kind right now. It doesn't fucking matter how much you can find, how many people you fucking have. It comes down to one fucking soda cracker I'll break it in half myself and move on my way. But i reall dot want to add to the fucking score. So you have ten people step forward, gather up half of your food and supplies, the. We'll move on our merry ass way. So come on, roll over, expose those nuggets for me."
He grinned. "I know the big guy wants to, just look at him. He's practically dead already. That's how it's gonna be. No one after that needs to die, you have my word. We'll shake on it, grab your shit and hurry our fucking ass outta here." He smiled. "All you have to do is say yes."

Thadd watched them bring the others out. They were the cooks, women, the ones to weak or young to fight. But they were lined up with the others. Poor Yameki, he was panicked, confused. Unable to speak English, he was lost alone. Thadd watched as Yam was shoved to the ground. Sam jumped up, ran to him, but couldn't do anything. Then Matt reacted.
"Matt no don't do it," Thadd said, but it was to late, his friend swung. Moments later Matt was on the ground, getting beat, hurt. Thadd knew he couldn't do anything, but wanted to. The leader of the raiders yelled it was enough, as did Sarah. Thadd could see it in the man's eyes. He wasn't supposed to have done that. The other man, the one who beat Matt, had the look of death. The one Riley had before he died. He would die for what he did to Matt, but not by the people of the farm, by Kennedy.
Thadd heard Sarah speak and then Kennedy after her. The man was foul, violent and pissed him off. But with all those guns, there was nothing he could do. He asked for someone to volunteer. Thadd should do it, should take a stand. But he couldn't. Maybe deep down he was a coward, or he was afraid. The farm needed him, he was a guard, a friend, he couldn't do it.
"We can give you what you want. No one has to die, we get it," he said calmly, "we will give you what you want. Don't do this."

Sam felt Yameki's arm, squeezed it. He crawled to his friend. Yam said not to hurt him and Sam smiled. They didn't want this, didn't need this. Sam held Yameki. He just wanted to make sure he was safe, he wouldn't get hurt. They couldn't do anything. Couldn't fight. They should just give them what they wanted, let them leave.
Matt moved forward punched the guy who had pushed both Yam and him to the ground. Sam watched as the man who Matt punched retaliated. He swung his fists, kicked him. But then he stopped, as the leader of the raiders ordered. The voice scared him, the way it boomed controlled. He said enough, and Sam just froze.
He tried to look away, but it was like a car accident, or a fight. You just couldn't look away. Sam kept his arm around Yameki. "Just look away. It will be over soon. They'll take what they want and leave. We can't fight them." He hoped he understood, could focus only on his voice and know what he was saying.
The leader, he said he wanted to hurt them. Kill ten of them. That if they didn't volunteer it could be them. Sam looked at Yameki. He wanted to, for Yam, but couldn't. He knew he had to help. But for now he remained silent. He didn't want to die, he had to be there, for Yameki.
Men started coming downstairs. Demanding that everyone get out of the basement. So she was right, there really are raiders here. Ella silently slipped the knife into her back pocket hopeing that the men wouldn't notice. As people started filing out she walked past one of the men. She looked him up and down. "Fat ass." She growled, trudging up the stairs and outside.
Maxine had made sure to keep close to Ella. The young girl appreciated it. Maxine was her closest friend after all. She saw the occupants of the farm crowded near the gate. Ella had only expected at least 10 raiders. There were more than she could count. All armed and lusting to have their blood stain the grass. The thought made a shiver run up her spine.
The leader began speaking about taking half the supplies and regurally coming back to take another half until we could give no more. Then saying that he would kill ten people. She grew wide eyed at that statement. She looked around at all the people. Would anyone step up? Maybe she should. Ella was to weak to do a lot of the hard work around the farm. She had nothing special to offer. To her she was just taking up space. Just another mouth to feed. Perhaps it would be for the best.
