Nate pulled into the entrance of the parking lot and parked on the far edge of the lot. Dead skeletons of cars sat all around, long since abandoned. A few were blackened, what looked like what once had been a fire sitting around the vehicles. Nothing but a black ring where a flame had once been.
There were walkers, half a dozen, shambling around. A few turned to look as Nate killed the engine to the truck. They were burnt, blackened like the cars. Clothes burned with holes and falling off. Their skin was a sickly black, had they been alive would have probably died. Yet they lived, their bodies still functioning.
Nate stepped out of the truck, grabbing his axe. He grabbed the hunting rifel too, swinging it on his back. He walked forward, and waited for the others. When they came out he looked at them.
"So here we are. Walkers look easy enough to pick out. Keep it silent, melee weapons. We don't need to attract more." He raised the axe, "let's try and be quick about it. Expect more inside."

Jake’s car followed the truck closely, that way he could act when something happened. When they reached the parking lot, Jake looked around. It seemed like a little fire party took place, he was burned out cars, traces of fire on the ground and last but definitely not least a lot of burned walkers. “Wow this is bad, even for the apocalypse.” Jake softly said as he kept looking around. “Even the walkers look like they been to Mount Doom, let’s hope the ring is safe.” Jake joked with a short chuckle behind it.
He then parked his car next to Nate’s and watched how he already got out. Jake turned off the engine and checked if his gun and combat knife where still in place and then opened the car door. “You coming?” he asked as he looked at Dannie with a smile. Then he got out and walked over to Nate, standing still next to him.The stench of the burned walkers filled his noise. “Oh my god, why this smell, aren’t they suppose to smell like barbeque?” Jake asked jokingly. He listened as Nate explained the plan and nodded. “Understood.” He said as he grabbed his combat knife and also waited for the other to join them.
Dannie stayed quiet most of the ride over to the Walmart, which wasn't too far from where they were in the first place. Just a few miles and she would occasionally look back to see Charlie still following them. She just hoped he would keep his smart mouth shut for the time being before he got himself killed. As much as she loathed the criminal, there was a strange little bond they formed back in Chicago. He scratched her back and she scratched his. It worked even though she was always paranoid Sterling would find out or it would blow up in her face and cost her her career.
When they got to the parking lot, she saw a sight she had no idea could even exist. The burned cars and worse..the fried walkers. She joined Jake as she got out of the truck and furrowed her brow, even as he joked.
"Shit. I've never seen this before. They can't even burn to death?"
She kept her distance and readied her hunting knife even though she had no desire to even tough the crispy biters. Of all things to her, this was pretty darn gross. She just wanted to see what was left in the store and get out of here. Her eyes darted to the store that had smashed out windows and doors, meaning it had already been looted and probably long ago. If anything, maybe there were some clothes left they could take with them. Hopefully some camping supplies like butane, lighters and sleeping bags.
Mia got out of the truck, slowly. She had the gun, but placed back in the back of her jeans. No noise, Nate said. Great , what was she supposed to use then? As Nate gave them his thoughts and plan, she scanned the bed of the truck and picked up a crow bar. It was heavy for her shoulder, since it was still healing. She'd have to two hand it, like a bat.
Dannie's face didn't hide what she was thinking. This place was probably picked over, but maybe something was left. Mia had the same thought. She held her hand up a bit in front of her chest," alright, look, we need to think outside of the box, cold weather gear, layers of clothing, anything we can use as weapons, and I will see what I can come across for medical supplies. This place had a pharmacy, might get lucky." Mia figured if she had to, she could even get creative.

The encounter on the road had not gone entirely after Charles`s plan, but it worked, he was with them now. It was only a matter of time before he could slip away with all their supplies, however seeing Dannie again had made him question his decision. Was he really going to this? Hmm...perhaps, he thought to himself. Maybe he could convince Dannie to come with him, gain her trust enough to make her leave the group she was in. Afterall they didn`t really seem like a solid bunch of people, and they had apparently been through a lot. Charles had overheard their conversation, and considering where they were headed, it would probably make things worse. If they decided to head north during the winter, it could mean the death of them, despite it slowing the walkers somewhat down.
In great speed, Charles followed the trucks in front of him, looking across at Dannie who from time to time looked back at him in the truck. She was worried, it was obvious. Whether or not it was because his presence, or that she had vouched for him, he did not know. Charles had decided to try at least and behave, for her sake, he did not want her to get in any more trouble because of him, and especially, he didn`t want to die prematurely either.
As the first truck pulled over, and then the second, Charles came on his motorcycle and parked next to them. The area where they were going to raid for supplies was most likely overrun by undead, even the front had a few crispy walking around. It was a rare sight, and an ugly one. Turning off the engine, Charles stepped off his bike and grabbed his machete, walking up to the others who already were in a conversation. As they were talking, Charles remained quiet some feet away, looking at their faces. Then he noticed a walker creeping up behind Mia, who none yet had noticed. Charles went ahead and whacked him in the skull, saving the lass. "You`re welcome by the way." He said and turned his gaze at Dannie. "Shall we move on then?" Charles requested right to the point, tired of waiting, wanting to get to the action.
Nate looked at Jake as he approached. He heard the comment of the walkers and nodded. "Guess everything smells the same on fire. Burnt hair times a thousand. Same as when we burn the dead. He heard the bike turn off but didn't look back. Dannie approached and spoke. Nate looked at her. "You need to kill the brain. So unless the Brain burns I guess not."
As mia approached she started talking about what they need. "We may get lucky, if we find anything we should take it. Maybe split up, some people check the back, others look for camping supplies or anything. Maybe meet up in clothes when we're done." He looked at everyone, "does that work for you?"
Just then he heard a noise. Spinning around he saw Charles drop a walker. Nate stared at him listening to the man. "Yeah thanks." Nate looked around and then to Mia. "You going to be okay with you arm? Maybe wear the riot gear. You can't swing that good anymore. If we have it, someone should at least use it."
Once everyone was together. "Alright let's get to work. I say me and Jake check the back, the rest of can check the camping gear."
Emre was lucky, he had nearly gotten out of blue ridge alive. The place had been overrun, saying it was his fault was... Debatable. Sure, he had led the biters right to blue ridge, but he was only doing his job when he got attacked by them in the woods. A few of them almost bit him, but he knew for certain, none of them actually did, otherwise he would be in a lot of pain. Most of the group had ran and scattered, hopefully they were still in the area so Emre could find them.
Emre re had walked around the local area for a while, finding nothing, but walkers and abandoned buildings. It came to his surprise that he had found a store. Not only that, but he noticed vehicles and figures just outside, in the car park. He didn't want to rush on over, that could risk him getting shot, but he was happy to see other humans in the area. There could even possibly be a few members of his old group there if they stayed local.
He walked on over to them at first, but noticed they were being particularly quiet about what they did. Must've been a lot of biters in the area. He eventually got close enough to see them and... What do you know? It was the group from Blue Ridge! Atleast, some of the members, not all of them were there. He got close enough and waved his arms in the air to attract their attention, luckily, it didn't attract any of the biters.

Jake listened to Nate as he replied to what Dannie said. “Makes sense.” He added softly. Shortly after Dannie joined Mia made her way over. He nodded and smiled at her. “Yup, understood.” He replied. After that he turned to Nate and once more nodded. “Sounds like a good plan.” He said as he looked at him.
Just then a noise was heard, Nate was the first to turn around, followed by Jake. They both saw a walker at Charles is feet, followed by a comment of him, sort of asking for a thank you and telling they should move. Jake heard how Nate thanked him, he just looked at Charles and rolled his eyes. “Killing walkers is kind of normal, what’s next a golden statue if you kill more?” Jake asked before turning back. ‘Jackass.’ Jake thought, but was sort of glad he didn’t add it. He knew he saved Mia from a walker, but it wasn’t that close yet, someone else would have heard it as well.
Then he heard how Nate was concerned about Mia. “He’s right, you should be careful it’s still healing and the gear will protected you from those things.” Jake said as he looked at Mia. Then nodded as Nate said they would check for the back. “Right behind you.” He said. Jake then looked back at Charles and Dannie to await their reply and then spotted Emre. “Haha, no, it can’t be.” He said with a smile as he waved back. “Guys look.” He added.
Dannie looked between them all and she agreed with Nate. Mia should be the one that wears the most protection considering she was still nursing her own injury. One slip and she could find herself in a bad situation.
"Mia, you can wear it. It will fit you. At least wear the chest plate and arm guards. It's kind of heavy, but you get used to it." She smiled as she went back to the truck to grab what Mia would need to keep herself protected. Placing it all on the hood of the truck she looked back at Charles as he took down another walker. She chuckled as he seemed to take great pleasure in killing them off..legally. She went towards him and tilted her head as she smiled.
"I think you like doing that way more then you should." After a pause, she looked back at Nate and nodded to Charles. "He's with me." At least, this way, she could keep a good eye on him while they tried to find what they could find. She was looking forward to heading north and being able to get it back together while walkers were in 'hibernation' as it were.
She had her knife with her at all times, but the gun was at her hip in case things started to get out of control. The first part of the store she wanted to go to was sporting goods where she hoped she could find some bullets to refill or maybe a new gun in case they didn't have her bullets. As she started to turn back towards the store, she blinked as she saw a rather ragged looking Emre, who she thought got left behind in the mayhem back at the cabin.
"Well, holy crap. Another comrade finds his way out of the woods." Before Charles could pull his gun out, she placed a hand on his shoulder and leaned in. "We know him. He was with us." Since Colorado. She would explain to Charles how she maneuvered her way from Chicago to Colorado alone, only to be found by individuals, one by one, before she was shot.
"Nate, maybe you should tell Emre what we're doing. Your plan, your leadership now."
Mia didn't like the idea of the full riot gear. She had enough problem, without the added weight of the damn thing. It was obvious that Nate and Jake both wanted her to wear it. Dannie seemed to understand her hesitation and came up with a compromise. Mia thought she could handle wearing the lesser version of the full suit.
That was when she heard the sound behind her and whirled around. Charles had just taken down a dead, that she hadn't even heard. He had saved her, in a way. Who knew if Nate or Jake would have spotted it before it did any damage. He was a bit of an ass about the whole thing. Something about thanking him. Mia was still a bit stunned and staring at him, but Nate thanked him. Well, he said the words of the sentiment wasn't there. Dannie spoke up, claiming he should go with her. That was fine by the rest of them. Nate and Jake seemed completely intolerant of the man, and Mia, she didn't like her own reactions to him.
Everyone noticed someone, and Moa looked to see where they were talking. She saw Emre. Mia lifted a hand and waved, not going over to check him out, or anything. Her feet stayed firmly planted, she was trying to remember , back at the cabin, had he been bitten? If he had been, he'd look a hell of a lot worse, she kept telling herself.

Saving the lass had been Charles`s way of trying to be helpful, although the gratitude the others showed in return was to be expected. Nate did thank him, but there was no sincerity to his voice, Mia simply stared and Jake was being an ass about it. For sure it had only been one, but he didn`t see any others try and do something about it. It annoyed Charles, though he had taken a somewhat delight in killing the walker, whether it was done by instinct alone or by the desire to deal some revenge.
As Dannie came back from the car, tilting her head toward him, he listened as she spoke. She was right; he did enjoy killing them more than he should, and there was a reason behind it. The road from Chicago to Georgia hadn`t been relative cheerful to say the least, there had been ups and downs, as it probably had been to them as well. However, the things Charles had done in order to survive; it had begun to affect his mind, in more ways than he cared to admit. “Someone got to look after you, especially when your friends clearly can`t.” He answered Dannie with a smirk on his face, before turning back at Jake with an angry glare, as if it also was a response to his words.
When Dannie said he was going with her, he liked the idea, hopefully they could get some time to speak one on one, while searching for supplies. He wasn`t yet sold on him going with them though, sure there was Dannie, but everyone else seemed to hate his guts. And none of them had actually told Charles were they was heading next, except that he had listened in on their conversation earlier.
Waiting for what was about to happen, Charles had his eyes on Dannie, who he thought was beautiful, despite the circumstances. Like in Chicago, she had smitten him with her presence and it was good to see her again. Then all of sudden there came an unfamiliar noise from the distance, quickly Charles grabbed his gun to aim at whoever was approaching, when Dannie all of sudden stopped him. It was one of their friends, another possible threat he may have to worry about later.
"That can work, even if it was just the arm, at least you could push them away," Nate said nodding. "Just want you safe, all of you." He from Jake to Mia, then Dannie. "Now let's deal with the crispies." He looked at them, "how about everyone pick one, take it out. Don't let it get close. Six of them, if the biker loves killing them so much he could get the last one."
Just then the biker spoke up about protecting her, Nate assumed Dannie, as they couldn't. "You don't think we've been through a lot? What we've risked for each other. More than you can even begin to know. Don't think your the only one who had it rough. Wasn't easy for us either." Nate saw the glare at Jake and just shook his head.
"You want to join our group, you should probably act like you want to. Maybe try not having an attitude. If you don't want to join then don't, there's the road. I don't really care if you do or not, we're heading north no matter what. You coming or going doesn't affect us. Again, just try and not be an ass."
Nate picked his axe up, gripping it with both hands. "Now let's deal with the buters and head inside."
Just then he saw the figure as everyone else did. It was Emre, or looked like him. Who ever it was, was waving there arms like crazy. Not a walker at least. Nate waved the man toward them, and when it was Emre he smiled. After four weeks or so he was surprised to even find the man alive. He didn't know Emre that well, just knew he didn't fully trust the man. Back at the gas station, before blue ridge, Emre made some questionable comments.
"You doing okay, none of the others are with you are they? Dale, the kid? Hykeem? Any one," Nate asked looking at the man. "We're going to check the store, get supplies. Then we're heading north, to Canada. I know a town there, it's secure. Isolated, near a lake and with hunting around. You should come with us, it will be worth it. If anything the cold will slow the walkers, being cold nearly seven or eight months, should be safer."
Emre saw that the group had noticed him. Yes, he had finally reunited with them, he didn't have to continue walking forever on his own. They were all smiles and waves over when they saw the man. He made his way over to them, lightly on his feet. Not everyone was there, he had already noticed that, but it did make him wonder where the rest were, dead? Bitten? Kidnapped? Who knew, but for now, he had to focus on this group.
As he arrived at the group, Dannie told Nate to explain what was happening. He needed the information because he hadn't a fucking clue what they were doing near a Walmart. Before the man explained, he asked Emre if he had seen any of the others, he shook his head. "Nah, I left Blue Ridge alone and haven't seen anyone else since". He was obviously saddened by it, but didn't bring himself down too much. Nate then went on to say they were checking the store for supplies, Emre probably should've seen that coming, seen as though they lost post supplies during the Blue Ridge attack. He continued to say they were heading up north to Canada, apparently there was a town that would be quite cold and slow down biters as they'd be in snow. It was a good plan, although a very sudden decision. He gave a nod as Nate went through explaining what they were going to do. "Ok sounds like a plan".

Jake was glad Mia agreed to the compromise and sighed in relief. He knew everybody could take care of himself, but Mia was hurt, he needed to be sure she was ok.
He heard how Dannie and Charles got paired up, but he Charles said something that pissed off Jake even more. Jake balled up his fist and was just about to react as Nate started to talk. No one of the group ever saw his angry side, before Jake met the group he would shoot first ask questions later, this Charles dude really was pushing buttons and not in a good way. He kept listening to Nate and tried to calm himself. ‘Did that asshole really just told us we can’t protect Dannie, he has no fucking clue.’ Jake thought. “You know what, I’m not even going to try and talk to you anymore, you just reached my limit, one more word and you can have a meet up with my fists and I fucking don’t care if Dannie knows you, so just stay out of my way.” Jake said shaking the anger off and then focused back on Emre who was getting closer.
As he reached them Nate started to ask questions. He heard how Nate asked if Emre was ok and if he found any survivors. “Yeah?” Jake asked with sadness in his eyes as he thought once more about Veran, Dale and the others. Jake sighed as Emre his answer was negative. “Well at least you made it.” He said with a little smile. Then Nate explained the plan and Emre agreed. “Well let’s kill stuff.” Jake added. Before the whole situation Nate told them to each pick one. So Jake grabbed his combat knife from his belt and walked closer to one of the cooked things. He planted his knife right between its eyes. Then checked back on the rest.
"Whoa, whoa guys. It's okay. You all know I can hold my own." She looked at Charles and raised a brow. "Especially you. Why are you trying to be so protective of me anyways?"
She really didn't like the thought of having to get close to the cooked ones. It honestly made her want to vomit. She had dealt with burn victims a few times in her career and that was usually because of domestic violence or some other homicide related thing and she never liked it. Of all things that kind of grossed her out, it was that. Why couldn't they just leave them? They were slow.
Stepping forward, she wished she had a medical mask, which was tucked in the back of her mind now. Maybe she could find some in the pharmacy section of the store. She came from behind, not really wanting to look at the burn victims face and as she touched the fetid skin she felt herself getting that sick feeling. The knife went into the back of the head and made a crunching sound that made her moan and want to vomit.
She kept it all inside and as she turned away from her kill, Charles would see all color from her cheeks gone. "Ah crap, that's awful." She stumbled back towards the truck, waiting for the others to get their kills in before heading towards the store with Charles. She figured, of all things in the store, bags and knapsacks may have been left behind, so she would use those. Plastic bags could come in handy and she made a note to try and make some sort of rope out of them when they were done. It made her a little sad when Emre said he hadn't seen anyone else and she prayed Sterling made it out safely with the help of his new girlfriend. Maybe she could write a note in the grime on the windows for them about where they were going. He found her in Colorado, surely there was a chance he would see this note too.
Mia didn't like the idea of dealing with the burnt ones any more than Dannie did, apparently. For some reason this whole thing had become one big male pissing contest. Least that was how it looked to her. Charles comment on protecting Dannie seemed to have rubbed Nate and Jake the wrong way, why? Dannie was a cop, she could handle her own. It just seemed like the guys had wounded pride or some such.
She uses the vest from the riot gear, some of the body armor , the stuff Dannie had suggested. She was getting it all on while Nate and Jake stood there talking to Emre, and Dannie went on and took out her crispy, as Nate called them. He wanted them take. Out quietly and quick, but all Mia had was a crowbar. Unless he wanted her to shoot it.
It was messy and took her a little longer than Dannie, but Moa put hers down, bashing it in the head with the crowbar.

The comment Charles had made about protecting Dannie, had been a sort of joke from his part, yet the others had seemed quite offended by the fact. They were really getting on his nerve, especially Nate and Jake. Charles clinched his fist in anger, he was treated like some nobody who didn`t know a thing, he wanted to punch the hell out of them, Jake most of all for his last comments. Just you wait, he thought to himself and calmed down, trying to behave on behalf of Dannie, yet it was getting more and more difficult every time he was trying to communicate.
“You know why…” Charles replied short to Dannie who asked him a question, and as he looked at her eyes, he hoped she understood him. Hopefully she wouldn`t turn on him like the others had, she was all he had left, and he hoped to keep it that way. Their lives in Chicago had been different, but Charles had always liked her. She was helpful and one he could trust, which was more than he could say about his own family.
With a look ahead at the crispy walkers walking toward them across the parking lot, Charles only watched as he others took them out one by one. Nate had ordered his group to do it, and if Charles wanted to kill some, he could get the last, just because. It didn`t bode well with him, apparently some of them didn`t even like approaching the dead, due to their horrific look. As a member of a biker club, Charles had seen burned corpses before, but never had he seen them walking like this. It was something new, yet he didn`t shy away from it. What they did was commendable however, despite the fact that not all of them were built for this sort of life.
After seeing them take most of the walkers down, Charles had enough, he grabbed his gun, which had a silencer attached to and with the few remaining bullets; he shot the remaining down in a quick move. Just as the dead again fell to the ground, being dead, Charles took a quick glance at those in the group, saying nothing at all as he walked across the parking lot toward the front door of the Walmart, adding new bullets to his gun as he did. A walker was still alive, crawling on the ground near him. Without as much as looking, he shot it in the face and kept on adding to his barrel while he walked.
"It's a shame," Nate said to Emre, "I was hoping Hykeem would have been with you, or Veran. But at least you're here, that's all that matters. Good to see you again, must have been a long few weeks. I know it has for all of us."
He watched Jake and Dannie approach their walkers. As the felt with them Nate did the same. He went to closest one and swung his axe. It hit the Walker in the neck, cutting it in half. The head hung off by half it's skin. With another chop it came clean off, rolling to the ground. As Nate went to go take care of the still alive and chomping head he heard two more shots. They were silent, no doubt Charles.
Silencer or not they still made noise. Nate had said to use melee, bullets were a luxury. The biker seemed to waste them like his never ran out. It was stupid, the needed to conserve, it was the one thing he actually learnt at the lake. Ammo was hard to come by, especially as further north they would go. Handgun ammo wasn't exactly sold on the shelves in Walmart there.
"Let's get moving," Nate said watching Charles fire yet another bullet. Nate walked into the store, pased the first set of broken doors. The glass crunched under his feet. The store was dark, no sunlight coming in.
"Crap we need lights," he said "think there's a couple flashlights in the truck. Jake can you grab them? Try the glove box of the cab." He was faster than Nate, was why he sent him. Nate wasn't very fast, he couldn't run with his leg. Even his walk had a slight limp in it.
"Emre can come with Jake and I to the back, the three of you together. Stay safe, meet in fashion when you're done. Try not to shoot anyone. Well check the backs, load our packs with what ever we find and meet you later."
Mia didn't particularly like the idea of being split away from Nate and Jake. She knew Dannie, but not like them. The new man made her nervous. She pictured him like a powder keg with a lit fuse. She clutched the crowbar and threw her pack over her shoulder. It made her wince. She took a deep breath and then looked at Dannie and Charles," I'm looking for anything medical, even damn maxi pads can make a bandage." She stared at Charles and then grabbed a flashlight from Jake and headed toward the store. She just wanted to get this over with.
Dannie caught the gaze of Charles and in a dead serious tone, he spoke. 'you know why...' The words haunted her oddly and she tuned out the others for a moment.
"Come on Charles, don't do this." She spoke with a whispered voice as duties were divvied up between the lot of them. He was already away and headed towards the store when Mia spoke about what she needed and wanted. She paused for a second before looking at Mia.
"Okay, let's hit the pharmacy up first and see what we can find. You know more about what you can use then we do, but we should take as much as we can carry. Let's just hope there's something...anything, left. We should grab some clothes too. Sweaters, overcoats, as many layers as we can grab."
She chuckled softly as she shook her head. "You know, I always preferred Target over Walmart for clothes, but I guess we can't complain now, right?"
Mia still looked worried about Charles tagging along with them and she wanted to try and assure her he wasn't going to be a threat.
"Don't worry about him. He's got an ego the size of California that he carries around with him. He's got bite, but his bark is pretty loud. I'll keep him under control."
She turned back towards the store as Charles was clearing out the walkers, catching up to him with a swift pace. She was able to grab her maglight from the truck which had the best battery life due to the fact the city paid for top notch gear for the cops. When she finally caught up with Charles, she followed him in hounding on what he said just moments earlier.
"Charles wait up. Why do you think you have to protect me? I've made it this far without it and so have you. That has to account for something, don't you think?"
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
