No one was expecting anything to come through the airwaves at the base at Vladivostok, much less a highly distorted communication that was relayed in from one of their Delta III submarines in the Pacific, near Hawaii. Russian Military High Command was at a loss of what to do, but after deciding that Hawaii was too important a target to ignore given the possibility that the US Pacific fleets had survived it sent a detachment from the very much intact Northern Fleet in, with the Pacific fleet ready to assist.
Vice Admiral Vitaly Churkin led the detachment aboard the Admiral Nakhimov, a Kirov-class heavy nuclear-powered guided missile cruiser. The Admiral Nakhimov however was not on it's own. Accompanying it was the Slava-class guided missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov, two Udaloy II-class destroyers Admiral Kharlamov and Admiral Levchenko, two Ropucha II-class Landing Ship Tanks, the Typhoon-class Ballistic Missile Submarine Dmitry Donskoi and the Akula II-class Nuclear Attack Submarine Vepr.
Should worse come to worst, the Russian Air Force was prepared to respond, a single Tu-160M was in the air at stand-off range and word was that six Su-35s were fueled and ready to take off if needed, but it would take them a while to get there. While there was no intention to start a fight with the Americans, they needed to take care of what ships they had left. In this day and age maintaining these vessels was hard enough. Replacing them would be next to impossible if not indeed impossible.
The detachment was a good 300 kilometers out from Hawaii, and while it was possible that they'd be detected Vice Admiral Churkin was taking no chances. Kseniya could understand, this message could very well be an elaborate trap. She'd rather she and her men take the chance than the fleet get into range of not only potential anti-ship missiles but also large caliber weapon emplacements.
Besides, if this was a trap, she was more than sure they could avoid the Americans till they could get word out to the detachment. After all, sneaking onto the island at night with a black painted RHIB was not the most challenging of prospects. Of course, it did mean that they had to keep the motor running slow to avoid attracting attention with it's noise.
So far they'd managed to secure theirs to a rock formation near the shoreline. "Круиз на лодке по безопасной, капитана (Boat's secure, Captain)," said Lyokha as he gave the immediate area a quick look around.
"Хороший, давай движется. Помните, воздуха полосы наивысший приоритет (Good, let's get moving. Remember, air strip's highest priority)," said Kseniya, nodding once. Lyokha nodded and with a hand motion the unit formed up and began moving toward their reconnaissance target.
