Vice-Admiral Churkin looked at the Styker with the 105mm cannon mounted on it, not unlike the BMP-3Ms of the regular Russian Army, their own BTR-82AM being equipped instead with a AU-220M Baikal remote turret fitted with an AK-257. He listened as the Corporal explained how they used the Stryker's main gun to clear the foliage, and also how she would afford them use of not only their vehicles but also CH-47 heavy lift helicopters to transport them in the event that their own vessels could not. While he appreciated the gesture, Vitaly had no intention of doing so. His airsupport was going to handle that, and if he needed to he'd use the guns aboard his vessels, and what was left would be cleared by the Sappers.
Of course, the runways wouldn't be overtaken with foliage in four years, and if that was indeed the case, then this was a lost cause. Then again, American aircraft were a lot more fussy when it came to landing strips. Russian aircraft were designed to be able to take off very rough strips, especially the Su-34s that he was going to be requesting. In any case, seeing as the Americans had already flown over these islands recently, there would be no need for him to request a reconnaissance aircraft. Nonetheless, he knew that his Ropucha-class Landing Ship Tanks and his Zubr-class LCAC could certainly make a landing on these islands, and that the Naval Infantry could handle what was being asked of them.
A smile formed on his face however as he heard the Corporal mention that she was sending local born soldiers with them, it seemed he wasn't the only one with such an idea. When he heard her mention of the Spartans holding off the Persians however, he had to resist the urge not to immediately correct her. He waited until she was done speaking and then cleared his throat before speaking, "While we are grateful for your gracious offer to make use of your Strykers, and as fine vehicles as I'm sure that they are, we've brought plenty of our own armored vehicles. Perhaps a little too much, but then again as the saying goes, 'there is no kill like overkill', eh?" He looked around, smiling at his own joke before his features returned to a neutral expression.
"However, our plan for clearing the foliage involves thermobaric ordinance. Rockets and bombs. All the thick vegetation should be gone in no time. However the tarmac will take a little while longer, and it is indeed a pity that we do not have your President's gardening team here. Seeing how well maintained the White House lawn is. Also, I have to correct you about your statement regarding the Spartans. There were not just three hundred Spartans, there were close to four thousand other allies with them as well, while the exact make up of which escapes my memory. Though mine is arguably not as bad as Hollywood's who forgot about all four thousand," said Churkin, shrugging after his last statement.
