Dannie sat back as the strange woman stepped up to offer her former partner some blood to save his life. If he pulled through, she would thank her later. If he didn't she would thank her anyways. At least she was trying to help him. She closed her eyes as she felt the compress against her shoulder. It was as if everything had just gone numb anyways. Her face was bruising and she knew she needed ice, which was something they would have to gather up from the snow outside. As Emre spoke, she lowered her voice to a whisper to answer him.
"It's not your fault. We didn't do anything wrong except try to protect ourselves. These people are paranoid. We're all paranoid now. They drew, we drew and we were outgunned. No matter what we say, they won't listen so we need just sit here and wait. The only thing I want right now is for Sterling to live. When he recovers, we can get our cars, are weapons and just leave. You can stay or go if you want, I don't really care."
Her breath became ragged as she heard the voices around her. She heard the words but she didn't hear what they were saying. All she wanted to do was sleep now. Her eyes started to close as blood started to trickle from her nose, down her lips and down her chin. Her voice started to slur a bit as she slumped to one side.
Anthony listened intently as Charlie recounted what had happened this morning. Mac had already gone out with a party? Even if he was Ellen's father, Bear Lake seemed pretty trusting. Then again, in this world you needed friends. Still, Randall seemed to be the only one who shared Anthony's concerns. But Anthony was a new arrival, and he wasn't about to question protocol. Charlie approached the situation calmly. No doubt she'd seen a bit of action before, considering how she told the story. Anthony couldn't help but wonder what would become of these people? Would they be allowed to stay? Would they be forced to leave? Interrogated? That wasn't for him to decide. Charlie asked Anthony If he wanted to help watch the children--one thing he was good at. He had a gun, but before he could answer, Veran--the pirate--approached and instructed everyone to clear the area. Anthony was about to comply until Charlie stepped in and the two began to spat.
Anthony took a step back and that was when Remy approached. Anthony had known about Carter. Apparently Remy just found out. And then she mentioned Adolphus, causing a perplexed expression to cross over Anthony's face. "Adolphus? Remy, he's in Florida. You think...Carter is with him? I can't imagine....maybe Carter didn't like the idea of being confined to one place. Maybe he didn't want to say a goodbye, so he left without us knowing."
The mere thought of Adolphus gave Anthony chills. He trusted Randall and Mac, and he knew Luca could hold his own in a fight. But if Adolphus had followed them--and God forbid, if he gained a following--no...no. What were the odds? Next to none. Anthony smiled at Remy in an attempt to comfort her. "Andrei shot him in the thigh. Lots of veins there. He probably bled out. And if he didn't, he's back in Miami. He may hate us, but do you think he followed us across the country?"
Post by Remy LaCroix on Mar 2, 2015 7:05:18 GMT -5
Remy thought about that for a moment. Why would Adolphus leave his stronghold, or whatever he has, in Miami just to follow a broken group across the country. She stood there quiet for a few minutes and chuckled, waving her hand down by her side as she looked down and shook her head.
"Yea, you're right. Why would he leave? If he was shot, he'd probably just stay where he was."
Then again, she had been shot and she left also.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to alarm you. I'm sure Carter leaving ain't nothin. When I found him, he was alone. He's a tough bastard though if he can survive out there in this cold on his own."
Even she wasn't fool enough to leave on her own, not yet anyways. Spring was just around the corner and she was itching to get beyond the gates and start exploring. Speaking of exploring, she wanted to get her lab set up. There wasn't really anything more she could do for the patients and the alarm that seemed to be buzzing through the camp. She gave Anthony a pat on the back and turned back to Logan. "I'll be in the agriculture tent if you need me."
Ellen took Veran apart. Her hearing was better than he might've anticipated so she caught what he last said about not chewing him a new one. Although she had every right to do so; she was going to make this clear in a civil manner. If she had to do it again she'd be less courteous the next time.
"Look, you're trying to help and it's admirable." Ellen said. "But there are certain people in this camp you can't override and definitely can't go up against. Charlie's one of them."
Ellen knew what her best friend was like and how she acted and knew that Charlie was someone you needed to get used to. But once you had you'd find out that underneath the attitude was a good person who had people's best interest at heart.
"She's my best friend and on top of that my XO." Ellen continued. "And yeah, I know that sometimes her manners and attitude leave much to be desired. But believe me when I say that underneath it all is a good person that cares for people. I've known and lived with her for four years now and believe me I know."
Veran also needed to be careful. Charlie was well-respected among the guards and they wouldn't take too kindly to someone going up against her. That went for Ellen as well. There was a reason the two girls were given the position they were in, and people relied on them.
"And trust me when I say there's no one else you'd rather have in a fight with you than Charlie." Ellen said. "I'm not sure if you noticed but the moment you went up against her the guards nearby firmed their grip on their weapons. There's a reason for that; Charlie's saved more lives than she took and a lot of the guards owe their lives to her."
Ellen knew of at least two guards who'd take a bullet for Charlie; Kelsey DiLaurentiis and Nathan Kozlowski. Charlie had pulled Kelsey out of a burning wreck and Nathan K. was a long time friend of them from college and ROTC.
"You're a new arrival so I'm gonna let it slide just this once." Ellen said. "I'll have a talk with Charlie as well because I know she tends to hold a grudge. But if you want things to work out for you you're gonna have to learn the chain of command within this camp okay?"
Allen had also heard the man's son had arrived not too long ago, and if someone knew how he felt and knew what the importance of family was it was her after just being reunited with her family as well.
"Also I'm happy your son arrived to the camp as well." Ellen said. "I was only reunited with my own family yesterday. Believe me when I say I know how important it is to keep your family safe. So give Charlie a chance, even if she's being a hardass, and can I get your word that from now on you're gonna respect the chain of command within this camp?"
It was then Ellen heard Hykeem going at it with Charlie. She was already taking care of it and Hykeem was in the camp long enough to know better than to go up against Charlie. Still, Hykeem was one of Randall's guys and since Randall was a Council member as well she expected him to discipline Hykeem for going at it.
"Randall!" Ellen called to get her friend's attention. She gestured her head towards Hykeem, hinting that he should do something about it before turning back to her conversation with Veran. Still, she kept an eye on the situation over Veran's shoulder, ready to intervene herself if things went out of hand.
Charlie smirked when Ellen called over the pirate. That clown needed to learn who was who within the camp and he'd better learn fast. She was glad with the response Nate had given him; and considering he was one of 'her guys' she was less inclined to turn the idea down coming from Nate instead of the pirate.
"Alright, s'pose they've suffered enough by now." Charlie said. "Get the two guys to the mess hall. Give'em some food and water."
Charlie knew that dividing up the intruders was probably a good thing. The woman was too stubborn to accept their help so she'd pay the price for that. Emre and the other guy seemed less inclined to start trouble and were complying so she'd reward them for that.
It also seemed Anthony had deviated from her side to talk with Ellen's dad and Randall. Charlie figured it was about time the lawyer made himself useful.
"Yo Anthony!" Charlie called. "Give Nate a hand in escorting these two guys to the mess hall."
Then Hykeem came and shouted in her face. The guy must've still be drunk from last night because what he said was incoherent and Charlie didn't understand a word of it. All she knew was that he had terrible breath. She gave Nate R., Nate K. an Kelsey a confused look. Seemed they hadn't understand a word either and were just as confused as she was.
"I did not understand a fuckin' word he said..." Charlie said. "Did any of you get that?" "Nope." Kelsey answered. "Not a damn thing!" "Dude, that guy has assburgers or somethin'!" Nate K. answered. "That was fucked!" "Well... THAT happened." Charlie said.
Charlie's attention then got directed to the pale-skinned woman. She had fainted, probably from the loss of blood. Ellen had warned her to calm down.
"Yup, there she goes." Charlie said. "Ellen warned her but nooooo.... Ugh, you guys get Emre and his dumb friend here to the mess hall. I've got this."
Charlie put her crossbow on her back and reluctantly went over the woman. She first felt her pulse to make sure she still had one and then she put the woman on her back in a fireman's grip and groaned.
"Fuck... got me draggin' your heavy ass into the medbay." Charlie complained as he carried Dannie inside the tent. "Those knockers of yours must weigh a fuckin' ton!"
Charlie went inside and dropped Dannie on one of the beds. She then noticed the blood on her shoulder.
"Ah man!" Charlie said. "You owe me a jacket!"
It was her wintercoat and considering spring was only around the corner Charlie figured she'd have enough time soon to get the stains cleaned out. Meanwhile she thought it was probably best to get this woman some help. She couldn't care less if she died but it would leave a poor impression on the others of her group.
"So yeah, she kinda got excited and passed out." Charlie said to Doctor Harding. "We told her not too on account of the bullet in her shoulder but yeah, of course she knew better. Still got a pulse though. Tell me when she doesn't and I'll put another bullet in her."
Mac thought it over again. Adolphus or not, Ellen had just confirmed that strange things were happening in and around Denver; cannibalism counted among that. Thankfully Ellen saw things the way he did. They needed to get fortified anyway. If there wasn't a threat now one was bound to show sooner or later and this place was nowhere near that defendable. Still it was nothing that couldn't be fixed.
Then the situation with Veran and Charlie went down and Ellen stepped aside to deal with the pirate. Insubordination was not something they could tolerate. If they wanted a chance here they needed to be unified. The Hykeem-guy spouted something against Charlie but Mac didn't understand a damn word the man said, and Charlie and the others seemed stunned with the same amount of confusion as well. Ellen called for Randall to deal with the man as he was probably one of his but Mac wanted to get a word to the older man in before he dealt with his guy.
Remy had also taken her leave to the agricultural area and Mac figured it was best that she keep herself busy now that it was decided they weren't going after Carter.
"It's decided then." Mac said to Randall. "We hunker down and get to fortifying this place. I've got some ideas I can run by you and Ellen. Think you can get that Council tent cleared for a military meeting of sorts?"
When Hykeem started yelling Nate burst out laughing. He turned toward he guards and shrugged. Seemed they didn't understand him either.
"Think he said something bout orders and starting a coup," he said smiling and punching his friend playfully. "Would keep my eyes on him if I were you. Shifty eye.
He looked at Emre and Jake. "Alright you heard the scary Lesbian. Let's get you two fed and away from all this." He waitedbfor Anthony to come an assist him, not knowing if the lawyer would. "Your friends will be okay, but silence works the best."
Nate pointed to mess hall, "over there," he said smiling. He wsiter for them to get going before he followed them into the tent. He didn't expect trouble. He didn't even have a weapon. He judged them as good people, they didn't harm him.
Elizabeth was ushered into the tent where the surgery was being conducted. She already knew how to prep for a blood donation although she wasn't sure at this point how many pints would be required. She saw the stranger Andrei with another man taking blood and she decided to finally speak up. "I have the AB positive you're looking for. You take care of that man and I'll set myself up."
She paused for a second as she looked for the materials she needed to get the needle and main line going.
"I'm a former nurse."
She found an empty bag and decided to just remove her belt to wrap around her arm as she searched through a small basket that had clean needled inside of it. She would have preferred to have one of those bottles of alcohol that was consumed last night to dip the needle in to be safe, but she would just have to take her chances at this point. A man's life was on the line.
She stayed at the head of the table where Sterling was being worked on, taking a few vital signs to make sure he was still holding on, which he was, but just barely. His temperature was up and she knew he would have to fight this all the way. She was also prepared to help out the medbay now that it was out there she was in the medical field.
"Don't worry sir, we'll get you back on your feet."
She wrapped the belt around her arm and started to find the vein. She was not squeamish in the least as she found it, stuck the needle in and started the mainline. When the needle punctured, she left it there for a moment while the tube was inserted into the end of the plunger and started to draw that precious vitae out. She relaxed, knowing that tensing would only make it more painful, letting the bag fill.

Jake saw a lot of people come in and go back out, there also was a lot of shouting, but he was done with it so he didn’t pay attention to it. But just then Dannie passed out. “She needs help!” Jake yelled. Charlie was the first one to react, but before she helped Dannie, she asked Nate and Anthony to bring them to the mess hall, whatever that may have been. It was then that Charlie called Jake the dumb friend of Emre. “Watch it, no need to still be bitchy.” Jake said annoyed.
Then Nate joked and called her a scary lesbian. “Hahaha, good one, need to remember it.” Jake said with a smile. Nate tried to comfort them by saying everything would be fine, they just need to stay calm. “You know what, you are the first friendly person I get to meet here.” Jake said with a smile as he slowly got up. Nate then pointed out where they were headed to. “Ok.” Jake said as he tarted to walk into that direction. “You coming Emre?” Jake asked.
He gave a smile towards Dannie as she said it wasn't his fault, it made him feel slightly better about the situation. She explained how they shot and attacked because they were trying to protect themselves, Emre agreed. His group was only trying to look out for one another, but the they shot and captured them, the word 'bandit' still came up in his mind when he thought about it.
After a while of putting pressure on the compress, Dannie passed out. Emre looked at her to check, but realised she was out and released the pressure on her wound. As she passed out, Charlie, which he had heard enough times to figure out who it was, ordered a man to take himself and Jake to the mess hall. The man, Nate, gave off a good vibe and seemed to be one of the few friendly ones. He assured them that the others would be okay.
"I hope so... "
Nate pointed towards the mess hall and Emre was ready to set off. Emre couldn't help, but look back at Dannie and the tent Sterling was in. Jake then asked if he was coming, Emre looked at him and nodded slowly.
"Yeah, I'm coming"
He ran towards Jake and made his way to the mess hall with him.
Veran was glad that Ellen had chosen the civil route to conflict resolution though he felt like she was talking to him like a 5 year old. He bit his tongue though and listened. He knew things would get bad for him if he fired off at her.
"Ain't no saint meself, temper runs hot too, so might be that I get it. An' maybe she got ta right ta be pissed right now. Don know what went on out there."
He fell silent once again. He hadn't really noticed the guards as his focus had been completely on Charlie. He sometimes got tunnel vision when he was facing a problem. He should know better then to get so hyper focused but it just was the way he was.
"Can't say that I meant offer several ta be honest. Course don matter what I meant by it. People'r gonna take what it was they saw."
He heard her question about the chain of command and was again tempted to speak back. He honestly didn't think that Charlie had any business leading a rally let alone a group of survivors but he quickly reminded himself that it wasn't his place and that it would get him in a lot of trouble and what affected him would undoubtedly effect his son.
"Ye got me word on it lass."
He was about to ask if she was finished with him but he realized that something needed to be addressed. If she was going to take him seriously, and he needed her to, he would have to address his "insanity". He needed a council member who thought he was good news if he was going to ask them to take the risks he needed for his work.
"An lass, bout me accent... With my son back, I'm trying to... change. It won't be all at once, but Might be yer gonna see more psychologist, an less swashbuckler."
Hykeem looked at Charlie carefully. She had a look of confusion on her face and so did the others. Did they not understand him? Did he not get his point across?
Hykeem was feeling a bit confused. If he couldn't get his point across anymore he was even more useless then he was actually drunk. He felt as if something was wrong with him and he had no control over it.
As Hykeem stood listening as Charlie basically ignored him Nate playfully punched him. Hykeem would never hurt Nate or anyone at the camp but something made him want to hit Nate back.
Instead he turn around walking towards the motor pool he couldn't stay in the camp like this. Who knew what he would do next? He didn't and he quickly made a decision reflecting that.
He continued until he reached his car. Pulling the key from his pocket before unlocking the doors. When Hykeem first entered the camp he had to work hard to keep his car from being scrapped. Now the seemed to pay off.
He started the dusty challenger up placing his right foot on the gas and driving up the mountain leaving behind the people he cared so much for. Would he return he didn't know maybe he just needed a cool down. Or maybe he couldn't stay in one place as long as he thought.
Mia sat in the mess hall at a table. She had a plate of what looked like scrambled eggs and some sort of meat. She held her coffee mug like her life depended on it. Right now it did. She needed it to help with the pain in her head, the queasy feeling in her stomach and her dry mouth. God, what had she been thinking last night. She blew over the cup and took a long sip as Nate and the two new men came in with him. She felt her eyes grow wide, and then she stared down at her plate. Maybe he wouldn't see her. She looked a hot mess, and felt it too.
Nate saw Mia right away as he came into the mess hall with the two men. He looked at them. "I trust your capable of doing soemthing stupid," he said smiling. "There's seems like scrambled eggs to eat and coffee if you want." He pointed to some food. "Emre can help with the plates. He doesn't have his hands ziptied together. Or if you both do you can struggle, I'll clean up the mess." He leans on a table, easy with his weight. "Just stay here. Don't run. Not that you would. I'm the good guy so best not anger me," he said laughing. "Oh and boys keep it quiet. My friend is nursing a bad hangover, as am I."
Nate walked over to Mia and sat down beside her. He looked at her an smiled. "Doing okay Nurse Shaw," he asked quietly. "Had a good sleep last night." He still eyed the two men, making sure they didn't do anythig stupid. "I dont remember much but your laugh."
Mia groaned softly as Nate came over and sat down next to her. Dear god, this was going to be full of embarrassment. She pushed her eggs around on her plate with her fork, then set the fork down. Her eyes stared at the men he came in with.
"I feel like shit, honestly. I remember now why I don't drink." She glanced at him, 'My laugh?" she shook her head, 'God, was it that bad?" She sighed and sipped her coffee, and pointed at the men with one finger extended from the cup, "Those two, got anything to do with all the ruckus at the med tent." She leaned closer to him, "Yea, I saw that shit when I woke up and came straight here, no way I was getting involved in that, let the Doc's handle that bullshit." She smiled at him, "Besides, I was sick as a dog when I came to this morning, figured it best to get something in me before I went in blood." She sipped the coffee again, 'they dangerous, I mean, restraints...are they necessary?" She pushed her plate to him, "still hot, if you want it." No way was she giving up her coffee though. Mia looked over at him, time to eat crow, 'you really don't remember last night? "
Dale continued to watch all the events taking place before him, not really sure of what he should do. He wasn't going to approach the crowd, he was way too solitary for that, and he didn't feel like making friends just yet. It was way too easy to get attached by making friends. He could have sworn he heard the phrase 'mess hall', and perked up slightly while still keeping a cool demeanor. Then he heard it again, and saw one of the settlers, and two of the people pulled in walking away from the medical facility.
In silence, he picked himself up, threw the clothe aside, and followed close behind the group with his hands hidden in his pockets. As they entered the area to eat, he listened to the joker introduce the place, and move in to grab a bite. Dale did like-wise, pushing in between the two newcomers like him, and up to the food. He quickly took what was offered him, and moved over to a mostly empty table, where he began to eat hoggishly. He looked over the place as he ate, and kept a keen eye on the two he pushed past. He didn't think about it as he did it, but man was he hungry, so he didn't care.
Nate pushed the plate away. "Afraid if I ate I'd be sick. But that coffee looks good," he said smiling. "I don't remember Mutch. I remember Nick not wearing pants. Hykeem in a pen. You're laugh, which is amazing, in a good way. I also remember being soaking wet, I still am. Did we go swimming? Wait I remember the doc glaring at us, when we were wet so definetly no swimming." He looked at her. "Did I say anything or do anythig to you I should regret." He put a hand on her shoulder, let's make an oath never to drink again. I feel like crap."
He looked at them men. "They are a new group. Someone shot two of their members. Ellen and charlie are yelling. Ones really fucked up. The doc should handle it though. Pretty sure you'd just get in the way. Anyways I don't think the need restraints but I wasn't about to tell Charlie or Ellen no. I'm on babysitting patrol. Though these are the least problemed ones. They cooperate, though make comments. I don't know anything about their group. Just what I got from the yelling, arguing, and fighting. The migrane dleant help that." He flicked his sunglasses up to look at her and smiled. "They seem alright, no worse than Ellen's dads group."
Anne-Marie had been cleaning out the blood out of trunk of the family's armored SUV while her dad and her sister dealt with the intruders. She was just about finished drying up when she heard the commotion outside of the gate. Apparently someone else had arrived, most likely the rest of the intruders coming to get their henchmen back.
She grabbed her Vector SMG and put the sling over her shoulder before making her way toward the wall. She climbed up the ramp and looked over the wall and was pleased that instead of more assholes she saw a familiar face along with a not so familiar one. Apparently Aron was alive and well and had made his way to Bear Lake as well. He was there when her dad explained the route back in Texas so it was all too logical that he had found the place.
Anne-Marie leaned over the wall casually and smiled. She was glad to see Aron, even if he may not have felt the same about her. The fact that he saved her from the walker back in the Reverend's lair was not something she had forgotten.
"Mister Inker! Fancy meeting you here!" Anne-Marie said. "Glad to see you're still among the living and making friends as you go!"
Anne-Marie didn't know the woman who was with Aron but figured she must've had something to do with him being tardy to the Bear Lake party. She then waited to see if Aron would reply and for Ellen to show up so she could let his sorry ass in.
Ellen was glad Veran saw reason. He gave his word and that was enough for Ellen for now. Whether or not he stayed true to it remained to be seen, but then again the man did have something to lose now, just like Ellen did. When he explained that he would turn into his normal self Ellen figured that would be okay. She didn't understand it but then again she didn't know anything about psychology.
"Alright that'll do, Veran." Ellen answered. But before she got to say anything else she got called for on the radio.
"Ellen, this is Patrick! We got two bogeys at the front gate; your sister's already talking to them! Looks like she knows them!"
Ellen was stunned for a brief moment. What the hell was Anne-Marie doing? She clicked the button on her radio.
"Watch my sister!" Ellen said. "Don't do anything til I get there!"
She then turned to Veran before she left.
"Help keep watch on the intruders inside the medbay!" Ellen ordered the pirate. "I'll be back as soon as I've dealt with this!"
Ellen then made her way toward the front gate and up the ramps where her sister was. Her sister seemed oddly relaxed, it seemed like she indeed knew the new arrivals. Ellen looked over the wall and saw a black man and a red-haired woman standing there.
"Anne-Marie? What's going on?" Ellen asked. "You know these guys?" "The guy's the English kid from our group that disappeared on the way here!" Anne-Marie answered. "The one that saved me from the walker in the cage. The woman I don't know but I can vouch for him. Dad will probably vouch for him too."
Ellen knew that her dad and sister were careful with trusting people. But if they were willing to vouch for him it was a risk Ellen was willing to take. But not before talking to him herself. She looked at the man; he didn't seem much older than Anne-Marie but Ellen knew that looks could be deceiving. Still, she waved off the guards on the wall to ease up.
"Hello there!" Ellen said. "I'm Ellen, Anne-Marie's sister."

Remy walked away from the medical tent and everyone that had started to gather. Ellen and Charlie together were a bad combination of arrogance and anger and that was a combination she couldn't tolerate. She knew Logan was arrogant, but at least he could make good decisions. Those decisions got them here unscathed. She wasn't so sure the angry, young lesbians could do that. Instead of heading back to her tent to gather up the medical supplies, she smelled the scents from the chow hall filling the air. It had been a long time since she had a relatively hot meal and she was getting damn sick of eating snack foods stolen from vending machines.
There were a few other people inside the tent already and as she gathered up a small bowl of eggs and a few slices of fruit. At least they were able to sustain themselves here. She sat down at one of the tables looking towards Mia and Nate before turning her gaze back down to the food, eating slowly. She wanted to gobble it all up and get it in her system before something or someone attacked, but she knew that would only make her sick. She had been so used to eating fast that it was a hard habit to break. Taking a deep breath, she savored the bland eggs and forced herself to bring her thoughts back to the lab she was granted permission to start setting up. The night before had been a big relief and drinking with Luca was that reason. He told her he cared about her and he asked her not to leave him. Did he really mean it or was it just the whiskey talking?
Another bite came to her lips as she sloughed off those thoughts. She hated this conflict of thoughts. She wanted to leave but she wanted to stay. This was and probably would be her only chance, her last chance to set up this lab. She knew if she left everything would have to stay behind. The microscope, the trays, the equipment...it would all be too heavy to bring with her and would only weigh her down. But it was her passion of discovery that made her want to stay, What if she found out the cause of all this? What if she was the only one left alive that had the ability?
Conflict in her mind was the enemy.

Luca Sultana: Really sad how this website went from being so active, with dozens and dozens of daily users, to a ghost town. We had so much fun here especially from like 2013-2018. What a fun few years. I probably won’t log in after this. Take care, everyone!
