The tricky part of the operation was just starting, but, thankfully, Mia arrived just in time. This kind of surgery was pretty straight-forward, and he was the 2nd surgeon a lot of times during his surgery rotation. The incision they had to make was relatively large, somewhere around 10 cm, but it was as small as they could make it. Doctor Harding worked towards one end of the intestine, while Andrei to the other. They were searching for the limit of the mesenterial damage, so they could begin removing the left over tissue, going over it by hand, what was damaged being left outside.
"Found it!" Jane said first, followed by Andrei. Mia passed each a clamp and then a scalpel, and so it began. They were racing against time now. Once they cut off the dying tissue, the two quickly sewed the loose ends together, and put them back into the man's body, followed by the closing of the incision and one final check of his vital signs.
The man's heart was still beating, but they would have to keep a close eye on him. The team began cleaning up the area before they'd move the patient to a bed.
"Thank you, Mia. You arrived just in time." he thanked her for the compliment, turning towards Jane. "Doctor, you can go get some rest, now. We'll take care of what's left."
Doctor Harding simply nodded. She was too tired to even talk, but she glared at Nurse Shaw on her way out of the medbay.
"From what I understood, they were somewhere near the settlement, Ellen and her crew went out to talk to them, things went south and these people were shot. This poor sod got a sniper bullet through him. He's on ketamine, for now, so let's take him to a bed." Andrei brought a gurney next to the operating table, and with Mia's help, moved the man on it, wheeling him into the same area as Dannie in time to hear her ask about their patient.
"For now, yes. He'll live. Though he will have to stay here for about 2 weeks for treatment and supervision." Andrei answered the brunette's question while moving Sterling to a bed, after which he went to check on Dannie's wounds.
"Not bad. Not bad at all." he said to Elizabeth while inspecting her work. "However, I will say that you could've come here sooner. Mia and Doctor Harding could've used your help, no doubt. But, what's done is done, I guess. At least you came to help. Thank you."
