The sun rose across the Bayou giving a soft glow through the misty swamp. The cypress trees branches hung low, heavy with moisture and moss as the creatures of the day started to awaken. Everyone in the house had slept, but the next morning brought about new jobs and chores.
Arden and Amarie slept in Arden's room, fully clothed after spending several hours into the night armed and keeping watch. Nothing happened. No new visitors, no trouble, nothing to give them any alarm. Ellie and Daisy slept in Ellie's room with Daisy on the floor, although Ellie was pretty sure she heard Daisy get up an leave at some point. She didn't care. She just rolled over and went back to bed. Ernie slept in the bunk beds in Ernie's room, Baron passed out in his tent outside and Damon slept on the couch downstairs.
Remy and Owen slept in the master bedroom and as the sun came up, normally Remy would have been up and moving on her own. Today, there was no reason. Her body was tired and she deserved this sleep after everything.
She laid face down on the bed, one exposed leg outside the covers that were pulled down to her waist. Her hair was covering her face and her arms were under the fluffy pillow. She didn't want to move even though her mind was starting to come out of the dream-filled haze. She dreamed about Owen but this time, it was something very different. But instead of getting up, she just laid there enjoying the warm sun as it streamed in between the trees and on to the bed. There was a reason the bed was here as the morning sun allowed them to bask in it on the bed.
If Owen were to get up first, that was fine by her. There was still some fresh water in the buckets left to clean up a little but she was just going to stay right here and let him do what he wanted to do. They had time to get back to New Orleans and time to see her old life.
