She heard the snarling and instantly realized what she had done. Shadow was moving forward towards her."God damnit!" She screamed as she took the edge of the bat and thrust it at the shape. It pressed it back enough for her to bring the bat up for a second swing. Abby screamed in frustration, and swung with all her might. She stepped forward feet sliding some so she didn't step on what she realized was Max at her feet. The bat hit and she brought it up over her head and came down hard. It hit and she heard another sound. The figure in front of her fell back and stopped moving.
Abby dropped to her knees, feeling around. God let him be alright. Her hands roamed Max's body til she found his pocket. She slipped her hand in and pulled out the pack of matches. With trembling hands,Abby tore one amd struck it. The light flared and she saw the walker splayed out missing a chunck of its skull. Beneath her was Max. Abby ran a hand over his face, his neck, feeling for a pulse."Max!oh my god,Max,I'm sorry...damnit,I couldn't see!" She was starting to panic. She felt his chest rise and fall. His shoulder looked funny, but she stood and tried to get him up.

Max coughed and spat as he laid there, finally able to get some breath. He tried to sit up but was in to much pain, "smooth allstar, just smooth." He said looking at her in the light. Max flowed with her as she tried to move him. It hurt to stand and he grabbed his shoulder in pain. It was most likely dislocated, he could feel the bone pressed up and away from his socket. "Watch the shoulder," Max said when she helped him up, "hurts like a bitch." He gritted his teeth, at least he could walk out. He stumble out of the storage area and towards the counter. He slumped down against it, "I heard a crack, please tell me it wasn't my bones." He winced as he talked, "think I'm bruised up bad." He reached towards his back with his good shoulder. He pulled off his bow and quiver of arrows. The quiver was dented and cracked down the middle. "That explains the sound," he said trying to laugh, but was in to much pain to do so.
Abby got on her knees infront of him, "God, I am so sorry...I didn't mean to do this." Tears were slipping down her cheeks and dripping off her chin. She felt horrible for hurting him.
As he pulled off the quiver, she actually chuckled through her tears, "well..that's not good, but I am glad it wasn't a bone.' She stared at him, then with shaky hands she reached forward, 'We...gotta pop your shoulder back in place...ok." She took a deep breath, "I saw one of the coaches do it, once, for the guy who was our pole vaulter." She shifted and pulled off her shoes, "Listen...I don't have enough upper body strength...but I can help. " She reached up and put a hand on his good shoulder."If you shift around, I can get my feet around the shoulder, and pull back on your arm, sorta shove it back." She winced at the thought of it, then chuckled, "good thing you got that moonshine." She rose up and pulled the jar from the counter, "Here...it's....gonna hurt...bad, but once it's in, it should be alright." She was back before him, holding the jar, like a peace offering, 'Max....I really am sorry."

Max took the jar and set it to the side. "It's really fine allstar, it honestly doesn't hurt that bad," he said through gritted teeth, "you'll just have to make it up to me. Keep me alive," he joked. His fingers trembled as he unscrewed the lid of the jar. It fell today f ground and brought the container to his lips, taking a big swig. He swallowed it and felt the liquid go down his throat, burning slightly. The affect started to take place numbing the pain for a brief second. "Give me something to bite down on, so I don't swallow my tongue," he said reaching for the items on the counter. Finding a pen he stuck it between his teeth. "Awry'pt les do dis," he said with it in his mouth. He beard himself against the counter waiting for her to do it.
Abby slide around behind him a bit off to the side. He would feel her feet geeting into place. One at the angle of the buldge and one below it. She took hold of his wrist in shaky hands. "Alright we are gonna count to five and then I am gonne shove with my feet and pull as hard as I can on your arm." God this was gonna hurt him so bad. She felt tears sting her eyes again. Make it up to him, he said? Fuck, she could have killed him. She would totally understand if he ditched her because of this.
She took a deep breath and squeezed his wrist. She started to relax the upper half of her body back, just a bit, straightening his arm a tad as she did."one.." Her voice was trembling,"two.." She was going on three, she told herself, not to give hin a chance to fight against her." Three!" As she hollered the word, she yanked his arm back as her back hit the floor and she pressed hard with her feet. She heard a loud popping sound and felt the shoulder find its placement. Abby released his arm and with drew her feet, but stayed back from him a bit, staring at him with wide eyes.

Max braced himself ready for the shoulder to be put in place. He bit down on the pen, her words echoing in his head. "One." He could feel the sweat in his brow, running down his face. "Two." He breathed heavt, his chest catching up an down. "Three." God dammit why did they never go all the way to five, he though to himself. Always early. As she pulled back on his arm he yelled out in pain. The pen flew from his mouth and clattered to the floor. He breathed heavily and collapsed to the ground beside her. His chest rose quickly as he ground his teeth. "Think it's in," he said wincing as he moved, "still sore," he said sitting up against the counter. "Thanks, even though it's your fault, thanks." He looked at the storage area. "Why don't you go check the rest of the boxes and get the keys. I'll rest here and catch my breath."
Abby nodded and started to rise. She didn't put her shoes back on, but went back towards the back room. She stepped over the body and felt around til she found the keys on his belt. She unhooked them and pocketed them. She stood and went into the office. She knew there wouldn't be light , but started rummaging through the desk. Her hand hid a long cylinder in the middle draw. Cold , and it felt like rubber. She ran her thumb over it as she picked it up and the light winked on. "Thank god" She had a light. She held the flashlight and kept searching. She went through all the drawers and cabinets. She put stuff in one of the empty boxes and moved along the shelves in the back. She wasn't in a hurry, figuring it was best to give Max some time. He had every right to be mad at her. He was right, it was her fault. She found a little more stuff, and threw it in the box as well.
All in all, Abby was probably in the storage area for almost 30 minutes. The light dancing over things. With the light she was able to make out more of the room and it was easier to discard things and find things of use. In the office there was a metal trash can. She picked it up and set it on the top of the box and carried her find back to Max.
She dropped the box on the counter and glanced at him, then the jar of moonshine. Seems he had drank a bit more, while she was gone. She rummaged in the box and took out the fifth of Jim Beam and slipped it in her bag. He didn't need to know about that , just yet.
"I found a trash can, metal, we can make a fire in that for the night, and some more cans of food. " she squatted down and looked at him, "You wanna eat while I go clean up?" She was gonna search the shelves again, and the stuff littering the floor, now that they had the flashlight.

When Abby went into room the room Max slung his head back. He let out a breath of air and reached up above the counter for the jar of moonshine he opened earlier. Feeling the cold glass in his hands he brought towards his lips. The liquid burned but helped with the pain. The jar was three quarters empty when he put it back. Good thing I have four more he thought wincing a he stood up. He didn't know how long he was siting on the ground, but it felt like forever when Abby returend. "I'll start a fire," he said when she mentioned the barrel, "And cook us both something to eat. You get cleaned up and I'll get it ready," he pulled it up right as he smiled at her when she left. Max grabbed a few of the empty boxes from around the counter and ripped them apart. He then placed them in side the barrel and grabbed the rubbing alcohol. Squeezing some into the barrel he searched for the matched in his pocket. He patted them down and found no results. He then realized Abby had taken them when they were in the office. Max wlaked up to the washroom and walked in, forgetting she was cleaning. "Hey you still have the.... Oh god, I'm sorry I forgot," he said turning away. "Just need the matches to start a fire."
Abby was in the bathroom. She stood in front of the mirror. She had opted for the men's room, since the ladies had the dead woman in it. She took her shirt off, and tossed it in a plastic bag. She had used one of her socks to plug the sink, and poured a bit of water in it. She used the rag to wipe herself off. She was starting to feel better now that some of the blood was off her face. She slipped out of her jeans and stood there, wiping down her legs as she heard his voice...the door opened. "MAX! GET OUT!" she snatched her jeans from the floor and used them as a shield.
Her mind took a second to catch up to what he was saying, 'Matches...' she tossed her jeans at him, "in the pocket..now get out." She stood in her bra and under wear. She reached down and grabbed her pack, waiting for him to leave.

Max caught the jeans and quickly left the room. It was an awake add experience, but he did admit one thing she wasn't that bad lookig. Probably just the moonshine taking effect, thought going back to the fire. He rummage through her jeans and found the matches. Taking one out he struck it and tossed it in the can. Soon a fire started and he earned his hands. He tosse the jeans with the rest of their supplies and grabbe what the had used as torch. He placed across the top of the can. Max quickly grabbed a can of soup and balanced it over the stick as he let it cook. He sighed as the fire burned underneath the soup can and he grabbed the moonshine. Taking another swig he exhaled, wincing on his wounds. It hurt all along his shoulder and down his back. Being careful he reached up and pulled off his shirt. He could see that all along his shoulders was an ugly purple coulour, and assume his back looked the same. It was cold in the room, the fire giving off barely any heat, but at this point the alcohol was keeping him warm. Max went back behind the counter and looked for more food, most of it they should save for later, as they may need it. "Almost done," Max called out, as he took a seat beside te fire, watching his cooking meal.
Abby leaned against the sink after he left. Damn....why was she all trembly? She ran a hand through her hair, and then pulled out her fresh clothes. She pulled the shirt on and clean socks, then her sweat pants. She rolled them at her hips, like she always did. It was a habit. She came back into the store with him, and plopped her bag down on the counter. She took out the blankets and shoved in her dirty clothes. She hoped they found some way to wash them soon. She sat down on one blanket and left the other folded.
Abby switched off the flashlight. It was best to save the batteries, and she didn't want him to see her face. God that was embarrassing. She couldn;t help but stare at his shoulder. The purplish tint to his skin. Without a word, she reached up and dug out the damp rang from her bag. She held it next to the heat, letting it get a bit warm. She grabbed the alcohol, and without thinking, she shifted to rest behind him. She poured some of the liquid in her hand, and then started to gently rub his back and shoulder, before taking the rag and placing it over some of the bruising. She was trying to make a heating pad of sorts. "I..really am sorry, Max." She spoke against the back of his head. She wanted to try to help make it better, though she knew he was going to be sore for awhile, til the bruising healed some.

Max watched her come in and sit down. He smiled at her and poked at the soup. He winced as she touched his back. "You don't have to do that, I'm fine," he said turning his head to look at her. "I don't need you feeling guilt or feeling sorry for me." Max looked down at her, "it won't heal for awhile, I'll have to just nurse it." He reached up for the soup looking at the insides. "Think it's almost done. Can you grab the plates and some kind of utensils," he asked as he pulled the soup of the fire. "I cooked the soup, figured we could split it and if we still need something we can split that too."
Abby fell back on her butt as he told her to stop. She knew she didn't have to do it. She wanted to do it, to do something to show she was sorry.
She let out a soft sigh and rose up and rummaged the aisles. She came back with a couple of plastic spoons and two cups from the fountain, "Here...will these work?" She sat back down on her blanket and shivered a bit. She rubbed her hands up and down her arms. She was wearing a thermal shirt, but that was it. She glanced up at the counter. She should probably put her coat back on. The fire gave off some heat, but this place was not made to hold heat. "I'm alright, not that hungry." she glanced at him, "I can rig up a sling of sorts if you think that would help?" She didn't wanna make it sound like he was hurt that bad, but in sports the best way to let something heal was to immobilize it.
She stared at the flames of the small fire and her mind drifted. Last time she had been around a fire was during a camp out with her mom and dad, that seemed like ages ago. She glanced at him, "You cold? I got an extra blanket."

"I'm fine," Ma said looking at her, though he was staring to feel a bit cold. "I'll just put my shirt on again," he said reaching out for it. He used his bad shoulder by Mostar and called out in pain. Quickly he pulled it off the counter and looked at her. "I may his sit on it," he said taking it and spreading it out. He pulled on his shirt and smiled, "maybe you could make a sling out of some of my shirts, they are in my duffle bag," he said pointing towards it. He grabbe the soup and poured it into one cup. He poured the remains one into te other and set it near her. He placed a spoon in each and grabbed to more cups. Grabbing the moonshine he poured the remainer of the one jar into two cups. "Let's eat," he said smiling. "I'm starved, haven't eaten anything this good in a long time." He raised his glass of moonshine, "to more meals like this," he said cheering.
Abby winced as she heard him give into his pain. She lowered her head so he couldn't see her face. It really hurt her that she hurt him. She nodded as he spoke about making a sling out of his shirts, "I can do that....you want me to, after you eat?" Her voice was low, and she didn't look at him.
She took the cup and played with the spoon in her soup. She scooped some and blew over it before eating it. She never thought she would relish something as simple as tomato soup, but damn, this was like heaven.
She eyed the glass of moonshine he poured for her, but as he raised his, she didn't want to be rude. She lifted hers and tapped it against his. She knew he expected her to drink some of it, so she lifted it to her nose and sniffed, then took a small sip. She made a face as it went down her throat, "Gah!" she coughed a bit, and sat it down next to her, "Ok...that is gonna take some getting used to." Her throat burned, and she scooped some more soup. She shifted a bit and drew her legs up, and crossed them, sitting indian style."So...we going to try the pumps tomorrow..keys are in my jeans pocket, or did you take them out?"

"Well there's still four more jars you can get used to," Max said laughing as he set down his glass. He originally had eight jars but consumed most of them. It wasn't that hard to used to, he hadn't drank much of it before the apocalypse, he enjoyed a nice scotch more. He took a bite of the soup and moaned to himself. "Best thing I've had since this started, well deer was better but this is close. I practically lived off this stuff as a kid, always tastes better when you don't pay," he chuckled as he took another bite. "The sling can wait, it's in no urgency, I'd take it off to sleep anyway unless you want to apply it tonight," he said, "plus I want to enjoy this meal without more pain." He took another bite and a swig of the drink, "keys are still in your pocket, wanted to get the fire started before I worried about anything else. Plus there was that incident of me... Uh... Walking in on you, I was trying to forget that," he laughed. "So I'm guessing you hadn't tried moonshine before? I found this stuff in a raider camp, it was with all these supplies. We killed most of the people there, they had kidnapped a friend. Actually found a little girl and her little brother there too. Place was some bunker, had running water and lights. Good to be able to clean," he stopped himself in his thoughts, "sorry i keep going on. Think it's the alcohol, and it keeps my mind off my shoulder."

Abby listened to him, and smiled when he seemed so happy with the food. He said he had more of this stuff, she stared into her cup as he said that. She answered before taking a drink, "Alright, morning you get a sling." It made no sense to make it if he was just going to take it off anyway. Cup back to her lips, taking a drink as he mentioned the bathroom. She sucked in a huge amount and started coughing, spitting and sputtering. Her cheeks had turned red. She patted her chest and then stared at him, "Well, I am sorry it was so unpleasant for you." She mumbled and then popped her spoon in her mouth, and swallowed fast, "Nah...it's fine, least your talking to me, right, you could be wanting to beat the crap outta me for all this." She grinned at him and then exhaled, 'Alright....I am getting warm." She pulled her shirt away from her body and fanned it a bit. What the hell? She picked up her cup and finished it. Abby licked her lips and then stared at the empty cup her soup had been in as well. She stared at him for a second and even though she was sitting cross legged, her body sorta swayed a bit to the left, "Alright..."her mind drifted and picked apart some of what he had said, about running water and lights, "man...that is something I miss the most...long , hot, steamy showers." Her voice was soft, and her eyes had a glassy look, "I used to get yelled at all the time for taking too long and using up all the hot water....ohhh...a nice tub filled with warm soapy water, damn, how long has it been since I had a bubble bath..." she was musing now, her mind running with thoughts, 'wait, you said deer...you can hunt? I've had deer..my dad used to get deer meat from some of his buddies, "again a switch of topic, "and kids....you think we have it rough, I bet kids in this world have it worse, no t.v, no cable or video games, " she chuckled and snorted a bit, covering her face, 'funny...my biggest worry was trying to get my shit together and enroll in college, working my body back to try for a track placement again." She shook her head, "now...it's when am I gonna eat next....oh man...so much shit...things have been too long, not doing or having, ya know....likedrinking...never was big on it, but this is good." Her words were running together , but she was trying to make sense, "washing my hair....people definitely take shit for granted..oh my god....sex...can't remember the last time I had sex...and steak...spagetti...carbs...pasta was my binge before a meet." She was staring in the fire, rambling, then stopped and covered her mouth, "oh...sorry, I...." she grinned at him, 'this is why I don't drink." She laughed at herself and then leaned back against the counter.

"Woh easy allstar, you're all over the place. I don't mind if you talk but keep y'ah sentences straight," Max said leaning back. He finished his soup in a cup and set it beside him. He stretched out his legs so he was almost laying down, though he propped himself up on his good shoulder. He didn't know where to start but decided he'd answe the questions she asked, "no I can't hunt, well maybe I can I've never hunted animals. We had hit the deer with our car, figure it would be a waste to leave it. Strapped it to the roof of this beat up car, looke really weird." He reached for his drink and took a big sip before setting it down next to his other empty cup. "Kids do have it rough, some times they don't even understand what's going on. This one kid had gotten bit, didn't tell nobody. Turned while we were driving down the road, bit a friend in the leg. We had to amputate it, he lived but died from an unrelated incident." Max didn't know what she was doing but she but he smiled at her. "We definetly had it easy before all this shit. I mean wing able to but food and not scavenge for it. Taking showers and baths." He remembered her wanting a bubble bath, "we might be able to make that happen, the bath actually. If we eventually do find a place we could fill a horse troth with water from a lake. Add some bubbles. It'd be cold unless we stick it over a fire, then it would be warm." His eyes traced her body and he smirked. "So sex and pasta are your vices," he chuckled, "good to know."
Abby mumbled an apology, and extended her legs out and crossed them at the ankles. She frowned and shook her head when he talked about the kid being bit, "That's awful, poor kid, musta been scared to death...."long pauses as she spoke, 'I'd shoot myself if I got bit..." she glanced over at him as he spoke about the bath, "well, the further west into the mountains...gotta be cabins and stuff, my mom said people had cabins up there and only went during like the fall and spring, so I am hoping there won't be so many , "she smirked at him, "sinners there." She grinned sheepishly, "if you can hook me up with a bath, I will owe you big time" She chuckled and then shifted a bit to her hip, to face him, but her face looked a bit confused. "Pasta and sex....vices..hmm.." she folded her coat and shifted down, laying her head on it. She faced him, 'well...a girl has standards..." that made her laugh, 'sex is sex...feels good and it's good exercise." She chuckled, "but food...god I miss food....I would kill for a burger and fries with a chocolate malt." She groaned , and rubbed her eyes, then yawned. She gave him a sleepy smile, 'so ...what about you...any vices, I mean, I know you drink..but don't smoke..." her eyes went wide, 'and you are not gay!" she smirked at him, then stared at his face. One hand lifted and she traced his jaw with her index finger, "so...how many hearts has this face broken, huh?"

Was she coming on to him. Max pulled away from her touch, he couldn't have another blue eyes again. "Listen I've broken enough to know," he said looking at her, "just enough." He liked at her, "west sounds good, we should thoroughly check this place fits though." He placed a hand on arm, "don't do anything you'll regret," he said smirking. "If you truly want a bath a farm near a creek or river would be the best. Not sure if the mountains has farms," he said calmly. "You ready to sleep? I can take the first watch," he said, "wake you when it's your shift."
