Abby sagged back against the wall after Max stabbed the dead woman in her head. She still held onto Abby's leg. She hadn't been bit, and hadn't felt any nails digging in through her jeans. She stared down at the dead hand holding onto her , and that was it. She yanked down her shirt from her face and threw up. She couldn't help it.
She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. She reached down and gingerly took her fingers and pried the dead fingers from around her calf. God this was....
Abby looked at Max's back as he was walking out the bathroom. Don't die on him? She raised a brow. Wow...did he really give a shit? And then the last...they had another bathroom to clear. Yeah, he just needed the extra hands and her bat. Yea, she got it.
Abby moved slowly, but followed behind him. She would kill for some scope right now, her mouth tasted like vomit. She eased past him and moved to the next door. She looked pale, and spoke softly, "let's get this over with." She lifted her bat and then tapped on the door with the tip of it, listening. Would it be too much to ask , for it to be empty? She thought and waited.

"You feeling okay allstar," Max asked as he watched her walk out of the bathroom. "Look like y'ah want to puke all over the floor. Remind me of a drunken college chic who had one shot to many." He walked up to the next bathroom. "What are thinking this time, two Sinners, maybe a big one that takes more than one hit," he laughed. "When this is all done we can get somethig to get the taste outta your mouth. Maybe eat some snow and take a breather." His hand reached for the men's bathroom door handle. Slowly he pulled it open and revealed the dark inside. It seems clear, they were luck this time. "Looks like the sunshines after all," he said smiling. "There still might be a storage area to check, though they'll likely won't be anyout there." He the went quite, listening for any sound. "Why don't you just sit down, I'll handle the rest, promise I'll yell if I need help."
He was being so nice. Why? She looked at him, silent and staring. She listened and didn't hear anything. It was allquiet. She lowered her bat and stood there for a few seconds. Abby looked back to the front of the store and then back at him, 'No...I will be fine." She gripped the handle of the bat tighter with her hand, 'I can do this, promise." She looked towards the last door. The storage room, seemed like it was a dark place. She took a few slow steps towards it, 'thanks, but...don't treat me like I am broken, I need to deal with this, alright?" She looked over at him. She hadn't spoke harshly or anything, her voice was soft and even, no real emotion at all.
She stood outside the storage room door, and took a deep breath before tapping her bat on the door. "You think any of them would be in there?" She listened, trying to hear anything. She was certain of how dark that room was gonna be, "we need more light than those." she pointed at the match pack . She had some flares in her pack, but she really didn't wanna waste them. "Hold on." She moved away and went back to the main part of the store. She moved down the aisles and found one of those long handled ice scrapers. She grabbed a cleaning rag from the shelf, and wrapped it around the scraper. On her way back to him, she spotted a bottle of rubbing alcohol on one of the aisles. She poured a little of it on the rag and then walked up to him, "Alright...home made torch." She grinned at him, "well..if it works."

Max looked at the rubbing alcohol then the rag. "It's should if it doesn't fall off to the floor. You know for a second there I thought you were going to burn my moonshine," he laughed and looked into the darkness. "Come and get it y'ah sinner bitches," he shouted out, trying to lure and the door. When there wasn't any that showed up he smiled. "Well we are either lucky again or they can't get to us fast enough. "You want to hold the torch or should I," he asked looking at her bat. "I can use my bow, and you can hold the torch, or I can hold the torch and you use the bar." He then struck another match, this one again striking on first struck. He brought the flame to the rag and watched it take flame. It light up quite brightly in front of their faces. "So Allstar lets get to it."
Abby frowned as he spoke about the rag falling off. Damn, she hope she tied it fast enough. Her eyes snapped up as he spoke of his moonshine,"really? I didn't wanna piss you off again." She grinned at him and then passed him the scraper handle after he had it lit."alright, lets go." She gripped the bat with both hands and eased into the door.
Her eyes adjusted to the dim,the torch started to drive back the shadows. The room looked like shit. Alot of boxes seemed to have been thrown all over the place. Shelves lined the walls and near the back door, it looked like some kind of office ,but the door was closed. The small window in it didn't reveal any body inside that she could see.
Still,Abby showed caution, and stepped slowly as she made her way. It was more like a long rectangle ,running the length of the store. She toed some boxes on the floor and saw some bags in one. The shelves held back stock and supplies for the store. Toilet paper and paper towels for the restrooms, cups for the soda fountain lined the shelf behind her. Abby bent and picked up the couple of bags,"jerky" she tossed it to him. She straightened and then she heard a noise and almost jumped on him. Her legs came up an down as she stomped,"Mouse!oh my god!"

Max smiled at her as she mentioned making him angry. When the torch was handled he grabbed it shone the brining rag into the darkness. It lit up only a few feet in his face and he didn't move it around to much, incase the rag fell. He followed behind her, making sure his knife was securely in reach. His eyes scanned the distance towards the office. "This room is most likely clear, as they'd be making noise and ontop of us, but the that office may still have some Sinners in it," he said as he stepped closer to the door. When she yelled out jerky and tossed it at him he caught it, placing the bag in his back pocket. He heard the noise too of the mouse below. "More scare of mice than sinners are y'ag Allstar," max laughed, "try and catch it, make for some good eatin'." He brought the light closer to the floor, to see the mouse. The floors looked as if it was covered in something, a dark brown stain, "think there's blood stained on the floor," he said moving the light above it. "I wouldn't eat anything not sealed, and scrap the mouse tacos." Standing up he moved toward the office door. As he braught the light closer to the window he could make out a figure inside. It clawed at the window and Max jumped back at it. "One in there," he said reaching for the handle. When it wouldn't turn he looked at Abby, "think it's locked."
Abby slowly walked over to Max " well,I say we leave him where he is for now." She stared at the thing behind the window, then looked up at Max," we need to check the rest of these boxes on the shelves and see what we can find, and see if there are keys to those pumps out there." She smiled at him," this is good a place as any to hold up for tonight, what do you think?" She figured there were lockable doors between her and the outside, and the place looked already looted, so maybe no one else would show up. She knew not everyone was gonna be friendly, and she wanted to prolong meeting any of those sorta people for as long as she could. Abby moved over to the shelves and started going through boxes. She tossed some small chip bags at him. She saw cans and bottles stacked up and almost jumped for joy. Looked like a bit of stuff got left behind. Her heart sank when she saw it was juices, and she figured they were probably no good. Her eyes lit up,"hey....we should check the cooler...i know it aint got any power ,but maybe there are some water bottles, gatorade, hell,I will drink flat soda...anything."

Max caught the bag of chips, "think they're expired," he said looking at them. Scooping up the cans and bottles he walked out to the counter where the other supplies were, leaving Abby in the dark. Walking back in he looked at the office, "as long as it doesn't break out it should be fine, though that's a chance we'll have ta take." He leaned on the wall, kicking a box over with his foot to see the contents. "Should be okay, we could activate the security, and pull the metal over the windows. Shelves could also be used as cover. It'll be cold, but beats sleeping outside." He crouched down, keeping the torch above his head. In the box was a few odds and ends, tissue, plates, and magazines. He kicked the box out of the room, watching it slide to the shelves in the main area. "Where's this freezer, we should take a look. Even if there's rotten food we can still cook it," he said looking for it. "About those keys though," he said shining the torch toward the office window. The light lit up a Sinner and exposed a set of keys dangling from it belt. "The Sinner is wearing them. We can deal with that later though, after a goods night rest and a decent meal."
Abby stared st him,"well... We could make a fire and use some shelves to barricade the office door",she stole a glance as he lit it up," well..fuck me runnin." She squatted and stared st the window,"damn...this sucks ass." She mumbled and then almost lept for joy. She picked out a couple cans of condensed tomato soup,"yes!" She held them and walked out to the main store, setting them on the counter,"hey...stale is fine, when you're starving that stuff don't matter." She grinned at him and walked to the end of the row of cooler doors. It ended at a little hall with a small door at the end. "Probably a supply closet." She turned and grinned as she faced the wall and pointed at a silver handle,"cooler door is here."
Abby pulled open the door and gagged. She shut it fast,"alright," she stood placing her back tothe door and gasping for breath," i know why there is only a coupke of dead walking....dead bodies in this thing... Dead ,dead...ya know." She looked over at him,"know what,I'll just drink the booze, fuck that."

"Gladyally," max said as he went over to the counter of food. He looked at her when she was cheering at the soup, "watch a find? Anything tasty?" He leaned on the counter, "I'm fine with stale, still makes for good eating." He walked over to the cooler beside her, "let's get it open." He watched with his knife ready as she yanked it open. When she quickly slammed it shut he put it away. "How many in there? Oh they're dead. Well looks like we won't be getting flat pop after all," Max said watching her. "Herd take the torch I'll get the supplies from the car and then we can get this place secure." He walked out of the gas station, leaving her alone in the hallway.
Max walked up to the car and popped the trunk. Reaching in he grabbed his duffle bag and slung it over his shoulder. He walked to the passenger side and grabbed her bag she ha earlier. Then he walked back in and placed it on the counter with the rest of the food. "Still have the moonshine and my fuel I'll grab that then we an prepare," he said leaving once again. He only walked a few steps to the car before he was knocked to the ground, his bow flyig loose and out of reach. A single sinner was upon him trying to bite at his face. Max held it back by placing one hand on its forehead and another on its neck. The shift tissue was rubbing off on his hands as he called out, "little help out here allstar." He couldn't get to his knife and hold it back, he was trapped. In the distance he could see two more sinners coming his way, "Help! Now!" He called again.
Abby heard him yelling. She grabbed her bat and raced out the door. She didn't thin, just reacted. She ran up and used her bat like a bit , she placed it over the damn thi gs head and pulled back with both hands. The walkers mouth caught the wood and she pulled hard, moving it back off him. "Stab it,stab it while I hold it." The thing smelled god awful and it's body was pulled back against her front. She glanced over and saw the other two,"oh shit,Max...hurry up!" She sounded scared for a moment, but like this she was vulnerable.

Max reached down and I clipped his knife. He pulled it from his sheath and stabbed the Sinner in the side of the head. It fell limp ontop of him and he pushed it off. It's limp body hit the dirt and Max rose, brushing himself off. He saw the two other Sinners and ran for his bow. He stumbled the first few steps but finally reached it. He swiped it up and quickly aimed and arrow and released. The arrow sailed through the air and hit a walker square in the head, dropping it in seconds. He watched the second one, hoping Abby would take care of it, though an another arrow was ready just incase.
Once Max had reacted, and the dead went limp, she straightened and released, letting it fall on him. Abby's eyes went to the approaching forms.
She caught Max's movement out of the corner of her eye, and decided she should react as well. She charged at the one coming for her. A swing of the bat and it rocked back, falling to the ground. Once it was down, she bashed it's skull in with her bat, hitting it over and over til it stopped twitching.
Blood and chunky bits slid down the bat, as she let it dangle from her fingers. She looked back and saw Max, standing with an arrow ready. She smiled at him, and slowly headed back towards him, "Alright...now..about that drink." She sighed, 'We gotta get this place sealed up for the night." She watched him going for the car, and stood ,watching his back, keeping guard this time. As he headed back, she smirked at him, "Gladly...huh...aren't you a little old for me, Max." She shook her head and slipped back inside right in front of him. As he came in, she pulled the door to. It was glass, but least it was still intact. She turned the deadbolt lock, and sagged against it. Slowly, showing that she was wearing down, she crossed to the counter and tossed the bat up on it. "Alright...I am gonna try the front doors of the cooler..see if there are any water bottles...something to take a bath in." She looked down at herself and grimaced. She moved back to the row of clear doors and looked down through each one. She took a deep breath and opened one, then yanked something out, before slamming it shut. "Man , that place reeks." She held up a gallon jug of distilled water, "Lookie what I found!" She almost seemed to do a victory dance back down the aisle to him. "Ok...so..we got soup...some jerk...chips....and I am sure there is other stuff in those boxes back there, just gotta finish going through them, and these shelves." She sat the jug of water down on the counter with a sigh.

Max watched her bash the sinners head in and smiled to himself. Once done he grabbed the remaining items from the car and made his way inside. He turne as she spoke to him, "dang you heard that, uh how old are you anyway," he asked setting everything they had gathered in a pile. "You keep mentioning track you aren't in highschool are you?" When she checked the coolers Max went to the window and pulled the security panels down, the metal grated covering incase of a robbery. He then began to move the first shelf up against the door, so they were trapped but safe inside. "Where are you going to bath? We don't even have any sponges," he said to her fom across the room. He looke at the torch that had since burned out and moved it to the side. When she found the water he smiled a bit, "looks like we actually get a decnt meal tonight. "Some plates and tissue in that box over there if you want to get really fancy," he laughed. "You still think the boxes have something. It's worth a look. Torch is out though, so I sugest we bring the boxes in here. As for the shelves we can move them against the windows for more protection. Or try and get them in front of te office."
Abby burst out laughing, "Yea..it's just me and you , and hate to tell ya..you're the only other voice, kinda hard to not zero in on it, when I hear it." She shrugged, "that one bathroom was empty, so I could use that sink, and there are a few more rags on that one shelf, think they are for cleaning cars, but I don't care." She glanced at him, "Yea, I ran track in high school, I am 22 now...wait..yea." She had to think. How long had they been in hell for ? A year...almost..or longer? She dug through her pack and held up the road flares, "I got these...and we can rummage the office after we kill that thing and see if they have any stuff in there too." She spoke slowly as if she was thinking. Abby moved around the counter and dropped down, searching through the counter below. She made an excited noise and he would hear a click. As she camp up, and there was a little more light. She grinned, 'We use to keep lights under the counters at the diner in case the power went out. She was still squatted and digging stuff out. Lighters...matches...pens..paper, a old pack of gum. She came up and frowned, 'Not alot , was hoping for some batteries.

"Lighters are good," Max said picking one up, "can make flaming arrows with them and the rubbing alcohol." He looked at a flare "I hate to use these, you know incase we need them late, but I don't want to use matches either. How are we even going to get to that thing. Door locked and I don't think your bat will break the window. You might be able to go through the roof if I lift y'ah. Or I can try and knock the door down." He rummaged through the pile of stuff. "Have any bobby pins? Or a screwdriver? Or both? I might be able to pick the lock, but I'd need enough light to see," he said looking at her. She was definetly younger than him, "I see so your not a kid, who would have guessed Allstar," Max laughed, "I'm 30, 31, some where in there. Incase you were trying to guess." He went over the weapons they had to kill the sinner. "I got three arrows, forgot to grab the other one, a knife and this," he said pulling out a machete in a sheath, "and you have your bat, which had a mean swing. How do we want to do this. Once it's taken care of them we can relax."
Abby stood across from him, the counter between them. She watched him, then pulled her pack over, "I got this." She pulled out a sock, and reached inside. Out of it she pulled a hand gun, and some bullets. It was a revolver and she had a hand full of bullets for it. It held six. So they probably had two full times around and that was it. "It was my dad's." She stared at it, and then looked him over, "Guess you're not bad , for an old guy." She grinned at him, then moved around the counter and started walking up and down the aisles. She came back to him after a couple minutes. She had hairspray, some electrical tape, a pack of bobbi pins, a bottle of 10w 30 oil, another rag, and some female toiletries. "Ok..well...there is stuff left on the shelves...we just gotta think outside the box." She grinned and picked up the hair spray, 'tape the lighter to this aerosal can and ..whoosh!' she chuckled. Then glanced at him, "You set on doing this now...huh?" She sighed and picked up her bat, "Alright..can you bust the door knob with the back of the hatchet...door opens...he walks out..and ..I wail on him..sound good?" She looked up at him, "I just wanna get this stuff off of me."

"The sooner the better," Max said nodding at her. "The makeshift flamethrower is good, only then sinners become flaming sinners. It wont stop them just set them ablaze. Your best to use your bat for this one." He grabbed his machete and moved into to the room. "Ready allstar," he asked going up to the door. Placing the machete on top of the door handle he brought down his knife ontop it. The lock made a large bang but didn't break off. Slamming it down again he got the same result. "Third times the charm," he said bringing the handle of the knife down on the handle of the machete. The doorknob popped off and rolled on to the floor. It hit his foot as the door flung open. The Sinner shambled out, it's arms reaching out into the darkness. "Now allstar, hit it."
Abby followed him into the storage room. She used some boxes and propped the door open, giving some more light. Walking up to Max,bat in hand she told him,"ready when you are." She didn't watch him ,she focused on listening and stared at the dark shape of the door. She heard him come down hard several times, and each times the snarls behind the door got louder. Good! She thought, you keep growling and I won't miss. That's when she hears it, the pop and the sound of metal hitting the floor. The knob was off. Her eyes focused as the dark shape of the door shifted. A moving mass of black came at her and she swung! Abby prayed Max had sense enough to stand back and she didn't accidentally hit him. A split second thought that was already too late.
The bat connected with a sickening thud. Abby felt the contact in her hands and just kept hitting. She connected again and heard a sickening crack, then the sound of something hitting the floor. "Max....match!Now!" It was down but where? Was it close? She looked at the floor and saw a dark figure. A mass just near her feet, and another dark mass a little past it,but it appears to be standing."MAX!" God! Please ,answer me! Abby was starting to tremble, scared she had taken out the wrong person.

Max half expected her to actaully hit the Sinner. He could see her shadowed by the light in the door. When she raised te bat above her head Max looked towards the Sinner. Next thing he knew she was brining it down toward him. He moved his head to the side, trying to dodge it. The bat collided with his shoulder knocking him to the ground. He fell on his face, his chest hitting the cold ground. He looked back and saw her raise the bat once again. He attempted to move to the side but the bat hit his back knocking the wind out of him. He heard a crack. God please don't be my bones, he thought as he wheezed for air. He remains still, the pain becoming to much. He heard her calling to him, was she seriously asking him to light a match after beating the shit out of him. He tried to answer but couldn't, his breath depleting him. Above him the Sinner shuffled toward Abby, it's arms still outstretched. The room was filled with silence for a few moments, except her calling, untill Sinner growled and snapped. It's hands attempted to grab Abby, max hope she'd react fast.
