June jumped when she heard the other voice and turned to realize it was just Dallas. That relaxed her a bit. She knew Dallas. Dallas was level-headed. He could take bad news well. She didn't know about the others. And Lily's behavior earlier didn't really help. She hoped she didn't bump into Remy in her current state, or that would be another fight June would have to break up. Just then, June noticed Dallas wasn't wearing a shirt and the memory of last night when she saw him naked flashed through her mind. It caused her to blush and look down at her feet.
“Well, um... The...”
June stumbled over her words a bit. Shaking her head and forcing herself to look Dallas in the eyes, trying very hard not to look at his pecks. Is this how it felt to be a man trying not to look at a woman's breasts? The struggle was real! Wait, no. That wasn't important right now.
“Candy saw Jackson carry Anthony out of the building when they were going for supplies.”
Post by Dallas Hatcher on Oct 6, 2015 21:11:19 GMT -5
A brow quirks in confusion as Dallas heard the news. "Carried how?" It didn't add up to him. Why would Jackson carry Anthony.... Oh God. Jackson was the man Colette had warned him about. This was not good. From what the woman had said about this Acer fella, Anthony was as good as dead. They needed to move fast.
"Did she see where Jackson took Anthony?" He had asked June as he started out the door to head upstairs. "Go get Lily. We need here hear and ready to roll now!" He barked an order at June as he moved up the stairs to mount a rescue group and find out what he could. If this other group helped, he be sure to sign whatever damn papers they wanted. As silly as it all seemed to him.
He rushed in the door behind Remy and her new friend, moving past the woman and the new man. He found Candy and knelt down. "Did you see where Jackson took Anthony?" His breathing was heavier from the running, but he had a plan. Get the info, get the party, get Anthony back. It was a simple plan, but people overlooked simple too much he felt.
For now, he could only hope they made it in time to save the man he knew nothing about. Silly really, risking your neck for a guy you didn't know, but he could only hope that some day, some stupid idiot might do the same stupid thing for him that he was doing for Anthony.
They had made it, made it without any interruption. Dan looked up at the building, the two apartment buildings. He wonders which one everyone stayed in. He saw people around, moving a tree and people talking. As he follows Remy inside he noticed Arcade. At least Collette got here first before Acer. He wondered how far Acer was away, or which goon he sent to watch.
As he walked into the buildig he was praying for a baseball cap or something, to make him blend in. He nodded when REMy spoke. And followed her up the steps. "Busy place. Seems crowded. Definetly aren't worried about noise or being seen." It was dangerous, but Remy had said it was safe. He was starting to doubt that. At least Acer follows rules to keep everyone safe.
Inside he saw Collette and a bearded guy. He didn't know Collette personaly, only what Arcade had told him and shown of her. He knew she was harmless right now, they hadn't pissed her off yet. He didn't say anything as the went past, just kept following Remy.
Once at the top floor he looked at her. "So this is your place? I'm guessing you lab will be across the hall." He smiled, "that woman downstairs. That was Collette, and Arcade, the one watching my back was out front. Let's hope Acer didn't have guards watching. Me being here would put myself, and your group in danger."

Candy smiled to see Dallas again, she was all set to offer up the three shirts she had collected for him. The shirts and her inventory list were left to wait. She was taken aback by his urgency, and her mind drew a blank. The last thing she wanted to do was disappoint him, so focused back on what she had witnessed. She mentally walked back through the layout of the building to the back door.
After orienting herself to which way was back and which was front, Candy hurried to a window that overlooked part of the back, and pointed the direction she had seen the two men go. She lowered her head, disappointed in herself, she couldn't tell Dallas more, ”I saw them start going that way, but then the curly haired man...Jackson? carried the sad man.. Anthony? where I couldn't see. I didn't want the curly ha- Jackson to see me, so I went back in. He was kind of scary the way he made Anthony go. I'm sorry, Dallas. I didn't see where they went after that.”
She went back to the table, certain she had disappointed the man who had probably saved her life the first time he actually need her help. She glanced back up, ”Was Jackson the spy Lily thought I was? He better not hurt Anthony. He almost knew my Uncle Danny.”
It was probably sad commentary when a stranger you saw through a window once was the closest link you could hope for to lost family. She took up her pen and chewed on the top, her head falling to rest on her open hand. Yep... her link to her foster uncle was gone, and she surely left Dallas disappointed in her.

Stopped at the bottom of the stairs as Dallas came rushing in behind her, asking if she had seen Jackson and Anthony in her travels. She shook her head and stayed for a moment, wondering why he looked so panicked.
"I ain't seen them. I told Anthony last night to get water. That's probably where they both went."
She didn't think much more of it or the imminent threat that was mounting against them. Dan already warned her about Acer and the group he was currently living with. She looked towards an open door across the hall and wondered if Luca had left to find her.
"You seen Luca? If you do, tell him I'm back."
She continued up the stairs, letting Dallas handle what was going on downstairs. She needed to unpack the medicine and supplies. Having seen Damon on the roof, she assumed he flipped the generators on so they could get cleaned up, get fresh water and shower if they needed it. She reached her apartment and opened the door to let him in.
"Home sweet home. I haven't really thought about where to set up a lab. I mean, we really just got here. I don't know who's staying and who's going. You need a shower or anything? We got generators here that runs the showers. You're welcomed to clean up."
She avoided eye contact with him for the moment as she put the backpacks down on the dining room table trying to keep her mind busy and off the deed that she had just made him do. She tried not to think about it, but their faces were just lingering in her mind. They were forcing her to think about them and it hurt her heart. She heard all the talking downstairs, muffled by the sounds of the walls and she knew she needed to figure out what was going on, but she just couldn't bring herself to do so.
Instead, she moved to her couch and just sat down, staring out the window as she spoke to him.
"I'm sorry Dan. I'm sorry I made you do that. I couldn't leave them like that. It ain't right. I'm sorry."
Aron could tell that the little girl was anxious without Lily around, she must have been close to her. He couldn't blame her for it though, Aron was exactly like her at the start, when he first joined the group, she was just a little girl, forced to be around a group of adults with chaos emerging left, right and centre. He understood what she was feeling.
His approach was calm and gentle, well, that was what he aimed for. This was the approach that he liked the most, it was the most natural and the most likely to work, for him. Aron smiled at her explanation, she was much more helpful than when he was a kid, he'd probably have just gone around, looking for something to mess around with and accidentally breaking it.
"Very helpful, I don't think a spy would be working like this to help the group. You and flopsy look like a good team, a duo not to be messed with."
Turning around, he saw Dallas rushing in past Remy and a new man, they must have only just arrived. Dallas seemed pretty concerned about Anthony's whereabouts, he'd seen him leave awhile ago but thought nothing of it. Listening to Candy's story, the word carried stuck out, now it was almost certain that Jackson had been the spy.
Aron spoke up. "You need a man to help? You can count me in, without Anthony, I would never have made it all this way." It was true, Anthony had pointed him out on their very first meeting, thanks to him, they gave him a chance and took him in.

Damon was on watch and surveying the scene. He spotted a few walkers in the distance... atleast they looked like walkers. For all he knew they could be people at the distance. He was about to look down his scope when he had a major thought. Turning he returned to the fuse box and looked down at the generator. He had knocked a wire loose when shutting it down and began to fix it up.
As he worked on the generator he ran a hand through his hair noticing the heat was a bit intense on the roof, a heat trap. He took a sip of liquor from a flask before taking out a cap from his bag and placing it on his head. He began humming attempting to avoid thoughts. How? How could he help Samantha.
For most people to help keep them alive was your duty and help enough but the previous night left on impression on Damon, if he didn't try and fix this problem... Sam or someone else... maybe even Damon was going to end up suffering. How in this apocalyptic wasteland do you treat such a condition. For all he knew Sam, despite her promise could have found his painkillers.
He finally got the generator going again and stood. Going back to his watch he looked below and silently attempted to hear what was occurring below. He hoped someone with medical knowledge would come soon, maybe lift the burden of this problem. For now he was the watcher on the roof.
Dan looked at her and watched her move around her apartment. He removed his bag and set it on the couch. As he waited for her to speak he nodded and looked toward the bathroom. He didn't need a shower, but it would be nice. He couldn't recall the last time he dis, it was within the last week for sure. He had the luxury of being able to shower as often as he wanted to. The mansion had water, and generators. He wondered how Remy was able to get water, hadn't the city turned it off.
"I will take that shower," he said with a smile, "thank you." He looked down the hall, "the room on the left or the right?" He looked down. "If you need to conserve water, or power, then I don't need to. You can save it for your group."
He saw her go distant, and watched her gaze out the window. There was silence in the room until she spoke. He listened and waited until she was done. When she was he looked at her.
"You don't need to be sorry. I understand," he said looking away, "it had to be done. What they were, what happened to them. It was wrong, we needed to stop them. If you needed to do it, then I would help you. Dot feel sorry, I'll get through it. I can forget easily." He didn't want to talk about this anymore. What they did, had to do. It shouldn't have been done, there never should have been children turned.
He walked toward the hallway. "So how about the shower. Sould you get me a towel." He looked up, "and if you have a change of clothes, that would be great as well."
Luca left the room, giving Simon his needed rest. He'd promised he'd help him take from that "crazy bitch" but Luca didn't know if he would. Maybe they wouldn't have to take it, maybe they'd be able to talk to her, maybe they could share. Maybe. Maybe. For now, he'd wait for Remy to get back, to explain to her what had happened. She was the only one who'd understand the potential gravity of Simon's return.
__________________
He heard her voice before he saw her. Luca left Remy's bedroom and followed her voice until he quickly saw her along with another man--an unknown face. He must have been with Remy, and Luca trusted her judgment. That was the only mind he paid to the new man. He all but jogged to Remy, stopping abruptly in front of her, a bit awkwardly. He was at ease, he was relieved. She was okay, and he didn't quite know how to show her he was happy about it. "You're back," he smiled, breaking eye contact for a moment. "Busy day, new arrivals--news of another camp, shit. Lots of stuff, really...Who's the new guy? You find anything else of use at the university?" Luca would await Remy's answer before telling her about Simon--she deserved to know, though, considering this was her place.
It was then Luca overheard about Jackson and Anthony. Oh, Christ. Jackson had been the spy, and he'd taken Anthony somewhere. "God dammit!" Luca spat. He looked over to Dallas and Aron, who both seemed keen on going after Jackson. "You're not going alone. What's the plan, Dallas?" Luca was trying to be as cooperative as possible. He wants to atone for what he'd done in Oklahoma, and this was a start.
"I would retract my suggestion if you agreed so quickly and eagerly," Clayton smirked, though his smirks signaled discomfort rather than amusement. "You'd be stupid to agree after knowing me for thirty seconds. My words, my promises, they're just that. Words. Like I said, most of the people in our group are healthy enough to travel, perhaps I can bring them to you, hm?" Clayton nodded to himself, mulling over the feasibility of the plan. None of the people were unable to move, most needed just a physical. Yes, that may be the best course of action to gain Andrei's trust--and that of the whole group. Was Clayton the only one trying to actively broker a relationship with these people? Moving a tree and making smalltalk were short-term, this relationship would allow the two groups continued cooperation.
Clayton was surprised Andrei asked about the contracts. Most didn't care, thought them strange. Colette laughed, jokingly. Arcade discouraged them. When Clayton went to Acer with one, he'd ripped it up and spat in his face. Though he did spare his life. Clayton was happy that someone seemed genuinely curious.
"I was a professor at Georgetown. Washington, D.C. I traveled down the east coast first, and then cut across to New Orleans. I found many groups, stayed in some, tried to stay with others. One thing I noticed during my travels is that groups would often accidentally bump into each other, hastily--and verbally--establish some semblance of a code by which they were to conduct their relations, and within mere hours selective memory would have taken over, with each group undermining the other. The groups were at each others' throats, people died. I don't want people to die. If two groups can establish and assent to mutually agreed-upon terms, maybe there is a chance for true, prolonged cooperation. Groups like yours and mine are the closest things we have to states now, and states signed treaties. Why must the remnants of civilized society die because the dead now walk?"

"Yea, towels. Sorry." She was brought out of the reverie by Dan's words and at least he understood what had to happen. The bat with blood on the nails was by the table with the backpacks full of instruments and medicine and as he quickly changed the subject, she got up off the couch and moved towards him. "On the left."
Next to the bathroom was a linen closet that held all the towels and sheets. There was a fluffy stack of them and as she reached into hand him one, she spoke quietly. "Sorry, unless you like wearing women's clothing, I don't have a change. I lived alone." She smiled a bit sadly at that as she turned back to close the closet door. "I bet some of the guys would want to go out on a clothing run though. Maybe you could go with them?"
When Dan stepped into the bathroom, Luca stepped out of the bedroom and when she turned around he was right in front of her. No hug, no nothing other than a smile and an obvious statement that she had returned. Maybe she mistook him. Maybe he wasn't that worried about her after all, which he didn't need to be. She knew what she was doing, even though she had been trapped by a horde of walkers which delayed her.
"Yea, I'm fine, thanks for asking."
She left him standing there as she went back towards the table where the supplies were. She heard the water start running as she went to unpack the microscope and slides. He would clearly see what she was after now. She wanted to bring up her desire to go find her family in the bayou. In the grand scheme of things, she knew they couldn't stay in this apartment building. Her last stop would be at her Uncle's house. That's as far as she would go before she either died protecting the property or lived out the rest of her life in the swamp. She couldn't tell him though. It was too soon. If she was going to go, she would be sure to take him with her this time as she had no idea if she would make it back.
"Just some stuff I need. Some medicine, pain killers, antibiotics, stuff like that. Oh, and I got you something."
She kept her eyes on the supplies on the table as she pulled out the t-shirt for him. It was a black t-shirt that said SECURITY in big white letters on the back. She thought it was appropriate for him and he could wear it or just leave it behind if he wanted. She left it on the table as she pulled the scrubs for Andrei out and folded them up and stacked them on the chair.
"Yea, I know about the other group. Dan is with them." She tilted her head towards the bathroom as she counted the number of drug packets she had collected. "They are not good people. Rapist, murderers and we're likely going to be their next target. Dan is leaving them. He's going to stay with us. He....he helped me."
She barely heard what the little girl said but when Luca perked up about Jackson taking Anthony, she cursed silently about the fact they had already been infiltrated. She stood at the table and sighed, placing a hand on her forehead as Luca looked towards Dallas to make a plan of attack for them. She wasn't military. She wasn't law enforcement. She had no idea how to handle situations like this and she trusted Luca and Dallas to take care of it and make that plan. After her conversation with Dan, she realized she was not a leader. She was just a scientist, like him.

Well, things were not off to the greatest of starts. A man had shown up shot and in need of medical attention, another random group had just shown up and they had lost a member of the group to a spy. Could they ever have a day which wasn't so eventful, she wondered. At the rate it was going, that was unlikely.
At least Remy was back, though she had no idea where she had popped off to originally. With her, she had brought home another survivor, she must have had a good reason to, probably helped her out wherever she had been. She wondered how big the group was going to get, the apartments were going to get full.
Sasha listened to Candy's story about Jackson and Anthony. She couldn't believe that they had let him get away with it, his falling to the ground and gasping for water yesterday must have been a trick. She was surprised to hear Aron speak up and ask to help out, he stood out from the two, they were more built for things like this. She'd rather stay back at the apartments and try and help keep things in order than go chasing after Anthony, but if she was needed, she'd probably go.
Dan nodded and slipped into the room on the left. The bathroom seemed small, an cozy. He opened the shower and waited for the towels before stripping down. As Remy handed them my to him he set them on the counter and let her leave. She said she didn't have a change of clothes he could borrow. Maybe Luca or the army guy weren't his size.
When she left he quickly derobed and turned on the water. Surprised to him it was running, and warm. He quickly got in, going over in his mind on what he had to do between Acer's and here, and how he would explain it. As he he cleaned he thought.
He would need to get his own clothes, since they didn't have any here. He would need all his lab equipment, his samples in the cooler. If he could he would grab what little food and water he ha stored away for himself. If these people just got here they probably didn't have much.
Turning off the shower he stepped out. He quickly dried and pulled back on his clothes. He put on his belt with the Machette and gun holster secure. Opting to just carry his bag and rifel he exited the to the hall.
He saw a new man, bigger guy, muscled. He assumed that he was Luca, as the man they passed earlier Remy refered to as Dallas. Unless this group had more than one cop or army officer, with a build like that. As he came out he heard the last part, somone named Anthony had been taken by Jackson.
"Consider your friend gone," Dan said to them, "if Jackson took him where I think, good luck getting him back. Acer's is to well guarded, to many men with to many guns. Jackson probably already has him beaten or bloodied. If this man is a fighter he might still be alive. There's nothing you can do, a small group of you will be no match to get this Anthony out. As much as I hate to say it, it's true."
Post by Dallas Hatcher on Oct 9, 2015 19:12:40 GMT -5
Dallas smiled and rubbed Candy's hair. She'd told him all she knew. "That was brave of you to follow them as far as you did. Good girl." He wasn't angry or upset. She'd given him more into than he had moments ago. He now had a direction to go, and he knew how far Jackson would be able to carry a man like Anthony. They'd find him before too long.
Aron said he wanted to help. Dallas nodded. He didn't know the man personally or well for that matter, but another body was better than a one man rescue plan. To his surprise, Luca wanted to join them and help. Dallas wasn't completely sure on it, but he didn't have much of a choice. He gave a nod and then Luca asked what the plan would be. So many people looking to him now... How had this happened?
"Okay. We know the direction they traveled and having to carry a man like Anthony..." He was cut off by the new comer. This man Remy brought home with her. He said a few things that stuck out. The most important being he knew where Anthony was.
Dallas rose to his feet and looked the man dead in the eyes. "Listen. I don't know who you are, an I don't honestly care. But Anthony is one of us. We don't abandon our own. Period. Now, tell us where Jackson took our friend." Regardless of what this man thought, they were getting Anthony back.

Andrei listened to the man, carefully. The fact that most people found the idea of contracts idiotic, and some even tore them to shreds didn't surprise Andrei. However, they did have a logical use to them and there something more personal about them, and he quickly understood what it was. For Clayton, these contracts were what practicing medicine was to Andrei. An anchor, something to keep them going, sane. Because of this realization, Andrei wasn't going to react negatively to them, having given him an idea.
"I see. Here's what I propose. We make a contract, between me and your group, albeit temporary. I am planning to move on from here, and sail across the Atlantic to Europe, however, until then, I will see, examine and treat your sick and wounded. On two conditions. First: I will receive payment for my services in the form of supplies. Either medical or other, should it be possible." he grinned at Clayton, hoping he understands the subtext of what he was saying, that he would treat people without payment, if they were unable to provide any. "Second: your group will send to me one person with a strong stomach, and preferably in their late teens or early 20s. He or she will stay with me and Holly, and will learn everything needed to provide care to people, for most of this world's illnesses." Andrei wanted to leave, but he could not face his family knowing that he encountered innocent people in need of his help and just walked away.

Candy smiled, find something of relief and even a little pride to find Dallas praise her bravery. Of course that nice man, Anthony, still the closest link to her foster uncle was gone now. Her smile faded thinking about that. She went back to writing out her food list.
Two lines down and she realized the search for Anthony meant Dallas would be leaving again, and Aron too. That was too many friendly faces dwindling away for her. There was maybe still June or Kim, but her trust in Dallasnwas heard to beat, let alone maybe they were going too. She packed up her pad and pens into the back of Flopsy. The terrycloth rabbit sagged a little with the stuff inside it, Candy sliding the bunny over her shoulder. She slid to her feet and hurried Dallas' side. Candy made sure to grab the cereal to keep snacking on.
Tucking the cereal box under one arm, she took Dallas hand with her free one. Her deep, dark brown eyes fixed fixed with feat and suspicion on Dan. A man she had not seen around last night, and somehow knew all about the man who took Anthony. A spy, who everyone else, including herself, was just finding about.

"Oh, thanks, Rem," Luca smiled and quickly took off his old, dirty shirt, replacing it with the new one. He liked it, and something about the word SECURITY across it made him feel like a badass. Only then did he slightly blush at the realization that he called her "Rem." He paused for a second, but said nothing. If she didn't bring it up, he wouldn't either. "And, hey, looks like a successful run." He nodded, as if affirming his claim. They always needed supplies, and maybe Remy hadn't even wiped the place clean. Maybe there'd be more to go back for.
It was then Dan, the new guy from the asshole group, spoke up, saying Anthony was as good as dead. Dallas spat back, and Luca nodded slowly as Dallas spoke. When he was finished, Luca chimed in. "I'm not letting some Rocky Balboa wannabe take away one of our own, no. Anthony's with us, and he's under our protection. We'll get him back..or we'll die trying." Luca was shocked at his willingness to step in and speak in favor of Anthony. The man must have really grown on him since their meeting in Miami.
Luca turned back to Remy. "Jackson was a spy, damn we're stupid. Too trusting. We gotta change that. Once we get back from getting Anthony, I say we do a sweep of the people we got here. Make sure all our people are straight, yeah?" Luca paused, only just remembering Simon's arrival. "And...uh, you won't believe this, I didn't believe it myself, but one of the guys I was with--back in Miami--cop...uh, he wound up here a few hours ago. Shot by someone in town, apparently. Andrei patched him up. He's out right now, I think. Name's Simon..." Luca trailed off, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.

Clayton smiled as Andrei spoke. A smile from Clayton wasn't much, but one who knew him well could tell it clearly. A slight curl of the lip, that was all a genuine smiled entailed from him, but it was enough. "Done. Provided I can put that into writing--in terms to which you agree, of course." Clayton stroked the stubble growing on his chin, thinking of who he could offer to Andrei as a trainee. He'd have to mull it over, though he had a purpose for another person.
"We have a girl, Leigh. She's fourteen, and we just...rescued her from Acer's camp. She knows the city better than I do. She can serve as a runner--supplies and all that, if you'd like. She can handle herself. A better shot than I am, too. Many hands make light work, and she can pull her own in this capacity."
Clayton paused a moment, mulling over what Andrei mentioned about Europe. The man had ambition, and Clayton respected that. Could things be better in Europe? Maybe...maybe they were. Maybe there was more order, a better place to start anew than here. When Andrei was about to set on his own way, east, Clayton would consider asking to accompany. He'd grown to like his current group, but his duty was to mankind, not simply sustaining one group. If he could find a better platform for his work, he'd pursue it, whatever the price.

June barely had enough time to answer Dallas' questions before he barked the next order. Not that she could blame him. They were in a fucked up situation and she was becoming anxious. She had been one of the new arrivals to join the group last night. What if they all looked at her with suspicion next? What if she was thrown out? No, Dallas would defend her, surely. But Lily definitely wouldn't have reacted calmly to such accusations. Even though she opened the door to make them in the first place.
No time to think about that. Just run. June ran back outside the apartment building and then came to a stop at the main gate. Asking around for Lily and describing her to those that didn't know who she was. June was shortly directed to the building across the street. What the hell was she doing all the way over there? June shook her head and ran across the street into the other building to begin searching for her.

Remy watched as Luca blushed for shortening her name and she really didn't care. There were more important things to worry about, like getting Anthony back. At least he appreciated the shirt she got for him. It was the little things she supposed but after Dan spoke and he brought up his thoughts, she had to interject before they rushed Acer's place and really did end up dead.
"No, no more. No more dying. I'm not losing anyone else, do you all understand? You don't know what you're up against and you ain't going to just rush over there, thinking you can get in and get out." She looked at Luca sternly, knowing that's how he liked to roll. "Especially you. I won't have you die. You know I can't let you do that."
She felt herself choke up at the idea and she quickly turned away from him, going back to the table and counting the drugs she collected again as if she were suffering from a bout of OCD. She stopped herself and continued.
"I want Anthony home, but you're gonna be smart about it. Dan has to go back. He has to get his stuff to come back here. He can tell you where to go and what to do, right? Maybe this Acer guy is reasonable if we negotiate?"
She was trying to keep herself together but she felt herself starting to fail again. This always happened when there was panic in the group. But what Luca said got her next, like an upper cut that just followed a blow to the body. A cop from Miami that he used to run with found them. Luca knew him and she knew exactly what that meant. The others were clueless, but she knew. She stopped what she was doing and just stared at the table, numb with the thought all this could be lost. With the new influence interjected in the group, all she had given to Luca could just as easily be taken away. She opened up to him even though her head told her to stop, time and time again. She let her heart win though. She let Luca in and that was a dangerous thing to do. She needed to think. She needed to get away. Flight won, again, over fight.
"I...I need to check the well. Ya'll try to get Anthony back, but don't be heroes. Take a small group and get back here before sundown. If they try to kill you, run. Get out."
Luca would know this look on her face. She knew he wasn't attuned enough to feel what she was feeling and it was not a good feeling at all. When she refused eye contact it was a bad sign. She was feeling the walls shrinking on her as she started to feel like she was losing control again. Adolphus did this to her. Now Acer. Her breathing had become short and ragged.
She couldn't even look at them now. She couldn't tell Luca how she felt about this, certainly not in front of this group of people. She felt like she was starting to unravel again and her footsteps took her towards the door and down the stairs to head between the buildings. The well pump and covering was near the back of the other building with one side only covered by a line of bushes. She still had her machete with her when she left. She wanted to work and when Luca left, she would find this guy named Simon and quickly figure out what he was all about. She would make the decision if he deserved to live or die.
