Before Stephanie - or anyone else, for that matter - could begin, she heard Michelle gesture to them, holding a pair of what looked like either smoke grenades or flash-bang grenades. Looking at them, Stephanie thought to herself, Wonder how we..., looking back at the others and then at their mystery guests.
"Okay," she said, "scratch my previous idea." Looking right at Michelle, she began. "If those are what I think they are, here's Plan.." pausing to count the previous plans in her mind, "C. Now, as I see it, we have to get around them," pointing towards the mystery guests, "but we have to do it as a group," pausing once more to look at each of the others, "that means no splitting up, we stick together, period. Only one problem...someone's gonna' have to get close enough to them," pointing once more towards their mystery guests, "to toss them off as a distraction. Once they're thrown and go off, hopefully our guests over there will take the bait and see what they were...
"The minute they do that, all of us - all of us! - take off towards Albert's cache." Looking at everyone, she added in as serious a voice as she'd ever spoken, "So who wants to play the rabbit to the foxes?"

Tory was slightly startled when Steph told her and Roman to both go with her; the teen had meant to insinuate she could go in his place if she was a harder target to spot. Tory didn't feel having her go along as an extra would be any advantage over just Steph and Roman going, but she wasn't gonna argue. As her head began to fill with all kinds of 'what-ifs', her nerves returned only to be replaced with confusion when Michelle tugged on her arm. What's this?
Tory held the metal cylinder in her hand before passing it forward. "What is it?" The object, seemingly foreign in her eyes, appeared at first to be a funny canteen or a mini fire extinguisher, or perhaps some sort of grenade even. The young girl went with the later after Stephanie changed the plan. C She liked the sound of it much better and relaxed a little more. No shooting; we all stay together.
There remained but one issue for her before they moved. Tory had a round in her chamber and she wasn't quite sure how to take it out without firing. Here's the clip release, the safety, but...is there supposed to be another button?! She figited with it for a few seconds while the others chose a 'rabbit' before looking for help. "How do I uncock this without spitting out all the bullets?" Walkers or no walkers, bad guys or good ones, she didn't want to run with a live weapon in her backpack.

Michael waited a second and heard all of these plans, nodding to the mute girl, Michelle and giving her a thumb up to ensure she was okay. He checked his watch and quickly opened his wallet taking the pain killers and other medicines for his throat. He had stopped coughing over the last day and was hoping this boded well in relation to his former bouts with cancer.
He thought to himself that bar this moment he had made many of the groups decisions and was until stated otherwise the unofficial leader. He remembered the words of an old war series that he heard a former military commander say. 'You don't just lead on the easy ones, you also have to go ahead on the tough ones'.
However this task was one that could separate him from the group, and Michael knew the way out of New York. The other limiting factor was he had the biggest backpack with many vital supplies.
"I would take this one if it were not a rabbit mission. Needs to be someone quicker yet capable of survival outside of the group... its a shitty job and whoever plays rabbit could be cut off and have to catch up... or be left behind"
He had liked the idea of the previous plan, if for nothing other than to test Tory's metal. She was the youngest in the group and at times seemed very green compared to the other members of the group. Her lack of knowledge around the weapon she was holding was an example of this.
Michael looked at the gun "If your worried about it going off all you need is the safety. Otherwise your wasting time you may need to use it..."
Al took one of the flash bangs, casually tossing and catching it. "This makes things a bit easier. The less likely we are to get shot at, the better." He looked at Michelle and smiled. "I know you can't hear me, but thank you." Looking down the road, he could see the bridge he was parked on, they were close and they had a plan that would work. Then he saw Tory struggling with her gun. "Here, let me help." He said, grabbing the gun from her. Pulling the hammer back and flipping the gun over, letting the bullet drop into his hand. "Here you go." He said, handing them back to her.
Michelle smiled at Micheal as he gave her a thumbs up. She reached out and took the two flash grenades in her hands. She pointed to her pack and looked at Tory. She wanted her to take it. Albert had said thank you. That made her smile. She looked at Stephanie and smiled and pointed to herself. She glanced at Micheal and pointed at him, and gave the thumbs up sign again. Michelle looked at all of them and smiled. She pointed to the bridge and then Albert, and raised an eyebrow. That was where they were going to be, right? She shifted a bit on her feet, still crouched. Her eyes stared down the alley. She hoped those men took the bait. Michelle duck walked a few steps, getting ready to slip past those bastards and set off these little babies in her hands.

Roman looked at Michelle and gave a small smile. This girl just saved some hassle and possibly some lives for us. He wasn't all to happy that Tory volunteered but, she was small and probably could move faster than he could. He patted her back,
"Ok, that might be a good idea. But be careful alright? Might got to shoot my way to pull you out ok?"
He was smiling but, he was halfway serious. If these guys were taking the women she would be a prime target for them and he wasn't gonna let that happen.

After a few more moments - and a few furtive glances at their mystery guests, Stephanie thought, Oh, to hell with waiting. Taking hold of both flash-bangs, she quickly told them what she was going to do. "Alright, I'm going to try and get to that wall," pointing towards a nearby building, "without being seen," pausing to make sure both her shotgun and pistol were loaded and ready. "I figure the distance is about 75, 80 meters....when I get to that wall, I'll signal back to you guys with a five-count to get ready....once I do that, give me a few seconds to toss the flash-bangs thataway," pointing off in the opposite direction from where they were headed. "Once I do that and they go off, the rest of you take off towards Albert's cache - don't stop, stay together, leave no one behind. Got that?"
Remembering Michael's admonition about possibly being by themselves if things went south, she added, "Hey, there were times I used to rob dealers by my lonesome back in Bawlmer, Michael...compared to that, this..pfft!" figuring it was time to bottle up any fear she had and put it out of mind. Looking over towards both Tory and Michelle, she said, "Once I take off here in a moment, you guys stick to Roman," pausing to add laconically, "Anything happens to them, Roman, I'll have your head on a pike when I rejoin the rest of you, you hear me?" smiling and giving him a friendly slug on the shoulder for emphasis.
Without any further waiting, Stephanie took one last glance at their mystery guests, then back at the others....and took off for the wall she'd spoken of, low-running as fast - and as quietly - as she could, using the abandoned vehicles nearby as cover. Diving towards the wall, she put her back up to the wall, pausing to catch her breath. Okay, jackass, where are they now? she thought, taking a quick furtive glance around the end of the wall. Looking back at the others, she held up her hand, fingers outspread to signal a five-count. I hope this works, she whispered silently....

"Thanks Albert," Tory politely replied as he helped her with her gun. She put it in her bag and shouldered it taking heed of Michael's advice but figuring she didn't want to use it and she could run faster without carrying it. The teen thought it odd that Michelle motioned for her to pickup her backpack but she did so in both hands and gave it to the her, paying close attention as Steph grabbed the flashbangs and went over the plan in detail. "Be safe!" The teen gave Steph a quick hug before the woman left.
Tory lightly tapped Michelle's shoulder and gave her a nervous smile. "Did you understand the plan?" Michelle seemed very good at reading lips, but she figured it was better to be safe than sorry and pointed between herself and Roman. "Just stick with us." The girl fixed her backpack straps and waited for the sign that Stephanie had given the signal. Come on. Come on. Lightly grabbing Michelle's hand, she stepped closer to Roman. In a few moments, they'd have to run their hearts out.

Waiting along the wall, Stephanie flashed a five-count to the rest of the group, kneeling down and creeping as close to the edge of the wall as she dared do so; as she did, another of Rachel's old sayings popped into her mind....If you're going to be on thin ice, you might as well dance!
With that saying firmly in mind, she stood up next to the wall, flash-bang in hand...and began counting down from five. Five....four....she began to count. Three.....two....pulling the pin on the flash-bang at the count of one....then, she stepped away from the wall and with as mighty a heave as she could muster, Stephanie threw the flash-bang as hard and as far as she could; after a moment, she grabbed the other flash-bang, pulled the pin on it as well and tossed it also as far as she could. Now all we gotta' do is wait for the inevitable explosions, she thought, making sure her weapons were at the ready....

Michael looked down the road to see Stephanie throw the flash bangs. He started scuttling across the road as he anticipated the explosion encase they needed covering fire to cross the road. He reached the other wall holding his weapon down the road and beckoned the others across the road with his hand. He had his attention split between the others and Stephanie.
"Good luck." Al said to Steph as she left to move into position and Al assumed his own. Once again he was putting himself in the rear position of the group. "No matter what happens, just run. Don't look back and keep your head's down." He said to the group, checking his own weapon over one more time, just to be safe. He waited for the boom, from what he'd seen of Steph so far, she could hold her own. Of course, these guys were well trained and clearly not agreeable. They were taking prisoners here, but what they did with them after was the question. That was the world they lived in now, and Al didn't want to think about it.

For what seemed like forever, Stephanie waited, watching the flash-bangs travel through the air like round missiles towards the nearby crowd, waiting until she was pretty sure they'd go off before ducking back behind the wall. Suddenly, there erupted a pair of loud booms as the flash-bangs went off; shaking her head a few times to clear the ringing in her head, she ducked back around and watched as the flash-bangs seemed to do their job. Time to run like hell, she whispered.
Holding her pistol at her side, Stephanie ran like hell along the wall, keeping one eye on what was front in her and the other eye on where the rest of the group was; catching sight of Michael, she flashed him a thumbs-up and pointed down the road as if to say, Don't worry about me, just keep going!
Pausing at another wall corner, she ducked around to see where the bad guys were, hoping they were still reeling from the effect of the flash-bangs....ducking around the corner, she saw that most of them still were, though at least one or two of them were looking around, trying to figure out just what was going on. Looks good so far, she whispered, looking around to see where the rest of the group was at. Pausing to wipe the sweat from her forehead, Stephanie took another look before heading back down the wall, figuring that if everything went right, she'd soon rejoin the rest of the group...just keep going, she whispered...Just. Keep. Going...
Kevin just followed everybody and didn’t react to anyone. When he got nervous he was very focused and sort of in his won world. The only thing on his mind was, keeping everyone safe and getting out. All of the sudden he heard the two booms of the flash-bangs and that brought his mind back.
He looked at everyone and ended with Michael. After all they were following him. Stephanie seemed to be doing a good job. For now he just waited until they had to move again.
(I tried to jump in as good as possible, sorry if I wrote some mistakes )

Roman winced when he heard the flashbangs go off. He had his head down and his eyes closed like he was praying but he was really keeping him from looking up and blinding himself. He opened his eyes after they popped and watched Michael crossed the street marking which cars he hid behind and what opening did he have to sprint passed to stay hidden. Once he was fully across Roman turned to Tory and Michelle.
"Alright looks like it's safe to move, keep your head down and move fast, don't got a lot of time here."
He gave a quick smile before facing the road ducking low as he moved along the sides of some cars and once he was a few car lengths away he motioned his hand for them to come before moving a bit more.

"Ok," After Tory heard the flashbang, she followed Roman's lead while clutching tightly to the straps of her pack. Tory had expected the bang and it still made her tense up. She tried to get a peek of what was happening as she paused behind a car, waiting for Roman to give the final hand signal, but she didn't dare risk lifting her head high enough.
Across the road she could see the bridge. Albert's supplies, my car..."Do we keep going or do we wait for everyone?"

As she continued running along the side of the building separating her, the rest of the group - and whoever had showed up earlier, Stephanie kept pointing in the general direction they were going in, hoping the rest of the group saw her and did likewise.
Suddenly, she heard the sharp crack of someone firing back at her; pausing to look around, she saw that one of their mystery guests was firing back at her. Whether they were firing blind or not didn't matter to her; her concern was stopping them - or at least, getting them to pause long enough for everyone else to leave. Turning around, she undid the holster strap holding her pistol inside her thigh holster; low-running to a nearby rusted car, she knelt behind and aimed towards the source of the gunfire...after a few deep breaths, she squeezed the trigger and fired at the opposing gunman, hoping not so much to drop whoever it was - she was too far to chance it - but to get them to stop, letting the others get further away. Now I know how Vasquez felt in Aliens, she muttered, pausing to fire a couple more rounds before scurrying to another hide spot to fire some more rounds downrange, adding, Hopefully, I'll live longer than Vasquez did at the end of the film, she mused, firing a few more rounds before moving to another hidespot...all the while knowing that the more she kept firing at their mystery, the better it helped the rest of the group.
Michelle felt Stephanie take the grenades from her. She watched as she explained her plan. Guess there was no point in arguing about it. Michelle followed the others. She didn't have much choice, she had made a mistake coming so far into the city. The bridge she hoped was a way out. She could see it. She heard the others , but just stared at the bridge.
That was until she heard the gun fire. Slowly she turned her head and glanced around at the others to see their reactions. She wanted to go help Stephanie, she had been nice to her, a complete stranger. Michelle didn't know what to do. She saw the bridge and glanced at the others. If the men were shooting at Stephanie, they were distracted. Now was the time to go for it, right?
Post by Michael Guarnere on Aug 6, 2015 13:31:58 GMT -5
Michael saw a road sign and stopped when he was out of the gunmens sight to gather a plan B. He listened and heard Stephanie was in trouble "Okay its down this street, see the bridge. We can run behind the cars and buses to keep cover. Kevin, Michelle... lead the way. STAY low, or your head'll go!"
Michael couldn't leave Stephanie to die after she had offered to throw the flash-bang. He saw an opening and knew he could outflank the kidnappers allowing Stephanie to escape. He headed down the right hand side of the street holding his weapon and signaled for Albert, Kevin, Tory, Roman and Michelle to move. Michael was ready to open fire and aid Stephanie but made sure the others were safe first.
Kevin watched Roman as he was the first to move and told the others to be fast. The other followed and Kevin made sure too always be the last one going, so he was sure the rest was safe.
Mere seconds later the all joined Michael. It was then they learned that Stephanie was under attack.
“We need to help her!” Kevin said. Michael then explained the way and told it would be best if Michelle and Kevin would lead the way. “Ok but be careful we’ll wait as long as possible for you and Stephanie to get back.” Kevin said.
“Let’s go, Albert you ok with closing the group and keeping and eye on everyone that way we are sure we have everyone?” Kevin yelled. After that he grabbed Michelle her hand and started running. "We'll get out of this." He said as he winked at Michelle.
(It would be an idea that Kevin gets captured when Steph and Mike return, by running to the others and Kevin being the last one, I can work something out form there?)

Ducking to avoid the now-increasing amount of gunfire coming at her and the others, Stephanie kept up her steady pace of running from cover-to-cover, pausing the fire a few rounds back at the bad guys, then running once more from cover-to-cover. Getting to a large, abandoned truck, she ducked behind it, popped out to fire....only to hear the one sound you didn't want to hear...click.
Muttering a long string of obscenities, Stephanie hurriedly checked to see if she had any more pistol ammo....only to find she was out of pistol rounds. Switching over to her shotgun, she stood up and quickly fired, going back to ducking between cover, firing at the bad guys and ducking behind cover in-between shotgun blasts. Catching sight of Michael nearby, she yelled, "I'm out of nines! I need an extra pistol up here!" pausing to fire a couple more blasts from her shotgun. Gotta keep dancing..I gotta' keep dancing! she whispered over and over, hoping her luck hadn't run out for good...
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
