After a long, fitful night's rest, Stephanie opened her eyes and sat up, slowly waking up. She felt like she'd been dragged through the muck; all she had seen in her dreams - nightmares, more like, she thought - was the sight of her lover Rachel being attacked and bitten by that walker back in Baltimore when everything all started, over and over in her mind, as if on a reel-to-reel film being constantly played as if to taunt her in her sleep.
For several minutes, she sat there, back against the wall, and couldn't stop shaking; it was like her body was trying to remove the memory of that awful day from her mind...and failing miserably. Muttering a few choice words under her breath, she got up and grabbed her backpack, bringing it back over to where she'd slept along the wall from the night before. Rifling through it, she grabbed a long-sleeve shirt and quickly changed out of her other shirt, trying to be as quiet as possible.
After changing shirts, Stephanie sat back against the wall and rested quietly, hoping she could someday purge those nightmares of hers' from her mind, once and for all...

Roman slowly started to jutter awake hearing footsteps nearby. He felt groggy and still sore, a full nights rest wasn't enough, huh? He slid off the wall he was sleeping against and rolled onto the floor on his back trying to recall what happened last night.
"Ugh, I think I'm in New York right? And...some jerk walker kicked me out of my car..."
He rubbed his eyes and it took a moment for him to realize that he didn't have his glasses on. In the morning his brain took time to start functioning right. Like a new born baby he slowly slid his hand against the ground until he felt some familiar wire frames. He slipped them on and yawned getting up to get his bag, a change of clothes and one of those sports bars he still had.

Tory slowly sat up in her make shift bed. She felt well rested but a little odd. She had a terrible nightmare the night before, but she couldn't for the life of her recall what happened in it. Only, that she briefly woke up and fell back asleep almost instantly. Oh well, she thought, today was hopefully gonna be a good day. Tory reached into her pack sitting next to her and retrieved her pocket bible to slip under her duffel bag pillow, maybe it'd help her sleep. As she tucked it under she felt something fall into her lap and looked down. Grasping it, she felt elated, it was the picture she had told Steph about, the one of her and her parents that she had thought she lost. Today was gonna be good day.
After making sure the photo was tucked safely away with her collection of post cards, Tory looked around the room. Steph and Roman were already awake. The former looked slighly shakem. Smiling to them both, Tory drowsily began conversation, Good morning guys, are Kevin and Mike up yet?"
Kevin slowly opened his eyes, he had a better sleep than last night, which was good. He could hear some voices coming from the kitchen, he was sleeping close to it. Kev figured the others were already awake. From the room where he was sleeping there was a door which let the bathroom. Kevin got cleaned up, brushed his teeth and got dressed. Then he walked back to the kitchen and he could hear Tory asking if Michael and himself where up already. “Well I am.” Kevin said with a wink and smile.
Then he walked over to the table and sat down on one of the chairs. “So did you guys get some sleep at all, cause it was a hectic day, yesterday?” Kev asked.

Michael came down the stairs holding his rifle already dressed "Sorry I checked the fences... lot of walker activity today, all that yesterday is why" He took out his canteen and sipped some water. His thirst was great this morning. He wondered what the groups plan was. He always considered Washington DC or Philadelhia... even the countryside. He was not sure.

As the others started to get up Roman began to stretch and crack his neck and back. He hasn't felt this bad since the last track meet he did back home. He looked up at Michael entering and talking about the walker activity. Roman walked into another room to switch his clothes and his mind was beginning to race, thinking they might be there because of him. He took a few quick breaths trying to calm himself down, out of all things he doesn't need to have a panic attack if things go crazy. He pulled out the granola bar he took from his bag and chomped down on it to keep himself occupied. As he walked back he went back to his bag and asked,
"Hey if you want some breakfast I still got some granola bars. It's not much but it's somewhat filling."

Tory looked around the room. Steph and Roman were already awake. The former looked slighly shakem. Smiling to them both, Tory drowsily began conversation, Good morning guys, are Kevin and Mike up yet?"
"I don't...yeah, I think they're both up," Stephanie said, smiling at Tory. Before she could say anything, she heard Kevin ask if everyone had slept well. "I had a few hours sleep....if you call sleep punctuated by nightmares sleep," she said, getting up and stretching a few moments to try and work out any kinks in her from the night before.
Hearing Roman ask if anyone wanted any granola bars reminded Stephanie that she still had a couple of MREs' stashed in her backpack. Grabbing her backpack, she set it up on the table and began rifling through it....after a few moments, she pulled out a couple MREs' and set them down on the table. "I'll take one, Roman...anybody want an MRE? Let's see....I got a couple here: beef stew, shredded beef in barbeque sauce and pork rib," adding, "I think there were some in the Humvee as well."
“Don’t have to apologize for checking the fences, you are keeping us safe we should thank you.” Kevin said with a smile as Michael walked in.
“Nightmares, that’s not good.” Kevin said in a slight worried tone. “But I know how it feels, sometimes I see Vince in trouble and when I wake up I’m so glad that it was just a nightmare.” Kevin said in a sad tone as he looked down. Then he reminded himself that no one know who Vince was yet, but just then roman walked in asking if someone wanted a granola bar. Kevin figured if anyone has interest in who Vince was they would ask later on and that way he could found out if someone of the newcomers saw him or something. He touched the ring around his finger as Stephanie searched her backpack and he smiled. He felt Vince was out there somewhere, he would find him, he had to. “Oh Roman if you don’t mind I want one.” Kevin said with a little smile.

"No thanks Steph, I'll have a granola bar too if you have any left Roman," replied Tory with a smile. Joining Steph at the table she was hungry after skipping dinner the night before, but not enough to try an MRE. She wasn't impressed by them the few times she had been forced to eat them on the road and to her these ones didn't look any tastier.
"So Kevin, whose Vince?," asked Tory after taking a seat. She was curious; he had mentioned the man's name, but was interrupted before telling the story. Was he a best friend? A brother? A boyfriend? She wasn't certain but Kevin surely seemed to care alot about him by the way he mentioned the man's name. Concentrating on the loss of her own family members, in her mind she had all but forgotten until now that the others might be missing someone. Already Tory half expected another stranger to show up as suddenly as the others the night before.

"Alright three Quaker Oats bars coming up."
Roman shifted into his bag and counted seven more bars, more than enough. He gave one to each and pulled out another for himself. He looked down at the MRE's but decided he wasn't that hungry yet, last night's meal was enough to set him for a while. As he started eating another bar, he listened to the others as they asked who Vince was. He was a little curious too but he didn't want to ask anything just yet.

Michael checked the covered window again looking up at street level and then saw in the distance a car and left just a small gap to watch. As he looked on he saw two young women running down the road, the car accelerated and stopped in front of them. It was a sad sight and he knew what came next as two young men threw them inside the car.
The events of the previous evening had brought more walkers, more walkers drew people out and the tyrannical groups of the city preyed on the weak. He knew they would have to leave soon. The city was not safe especially as bar Kevin he had not seen much from the others yet, they could all be vulnerable to these gangs or a large tribe of walkers.
Kevin heard how Tori asked about Vince. Roman handed him the bar. Kevin opened it and took a bite. When he mouth was empty he started to talk. “Well Vince was……” then he paused for a slight second. It was dumb of him to say was, he was sure Vince was still alive.
“Vince is, my boyfriend.” Kevin said full of confidence. He banished the dark thoughts of Vince being dead. “We got split up when the apocalypse happened and I’m trying to find him ever since.” Kevin said in a very sad tone. Talking about Vince was hard for him, but maybe there was a chance someone had seen him, he couldn’t give up hope or there was no reason to go on in this damn apocalypse.
Kevin softly touched the ring around his finger, their names where engraved in it and Vince had the same one. He took a moment and looked down as sadness filled his heart. Then he looked up again and continued his story as he tried to smile a bit. “I know you might all think that I’m crazy, for thinking I will find him, or that he’s even alive, but I just feel he is and I’m going to find him, it’s the only thing that keeps me going.” Kevin said as he tried his best not to cry. It was the first time in long that he was talking about Vince with someone, he had mentioned Vince to Michael, but it was the first time he actually told them the story.
Then Kevin walked over to his backpack and grabbed the photo of Vince, Kevin his parent’s and Kevin. He showed the picture to the group. “Did anyone see him?” Kevin asked.

Roman was silent and only listened as Kevin talked about his boyfriend. He could tell just talking about him really hit home for him. It kinda brought him back memories of his....past girlfriend and all the guys back home. Thinking about it he didn't know if they made it out and were surviving out here like he was. Not only that, was his mom and uncle ok? They both went into Chicago that day and he prayed so badly that they made it out alive, he couldn't imagine what would happen if...Just the idea of that was making him tremble a bit. He didn't need the others to see him like this. So before Kevin showed the others his picture, Roman quickly walked off into the bathroom to spray his face with water. He took a few deep breaths after that and looked into the mirror.
"Come on man don't do this, you got to keep it together."
He couldnt afford to lose his cool, now or ever. If there was a chance for any of them to be alive becoming a crumbling mess wouldn't help anyone, just get him and anyone else near him killed.

"No, nightmares are never good," Stephanie said to Kevin as she dug into her beef stew MRE. At least I asked if anyone wanted one, she bemusedly thought, trying to eat quietly but also trying to keep to follow along with the conversations going on around her.
Hearing Kevin talk about his boyfriend brought a pang of sadness to her own heart; for all the gruffness Stephanie could bring to bear on the outside, there were certain things that could through her and losing someone close to her was one of them. Looking over towards Kevin, she said, "We'll find him, Kevin," her confidence returning to her. Looking at the picture Kevin showed everyone in the group of him and Vince, she added, "I haven't seen him, not that I'm aware of," pausing to wipe a few almond crumbs from her lips with a slightly moist towelette. "If I may ask, where was Vince when everything started? If we had an idea there, it might help us know where to look later on if we have to leave New York in a hurry."

Tory thanked Roman for the granola bar and turned to listen to Kevin's story. It touched her heart. He had been searching for Vince ever since the outbreak. How did he even know where to start?
"I haven't seen him either," Tory replied after Steph, "but maybe we can help look for him."
She wasn't really sure how she could be of use -she surely wasn't the most experienced or capable in exploring a city- but as much as she didn't want to ever leave the restaurant again she felt determined. Kevin obviously cared a lot for this man and they'd find him if he was alive. He has to be alive. She wasn't sure of the odds of finding Kevin's boyfriend, they had to be poor, nonetheless optimism had gotten Tory this far. Never give up hope.
Tory could tell Kevin was sad. She got up to throw away the foil wrapper from her granola bar and on her way back to the table she gave the man a small hug. "We'll find Vince"
Grabbing a change of clothes, Tory headed for the bathroom. After washing up, she changed into an outfit similar to the day before and upon returning to the group, she sat back down and patiently awaited the day's plan.
Kevin tried to smile as Stephanie told him they would find Vince.
While Kevin showed everyone the picture he could see Roman leaving the room. He wanted to thank him for the bar, but Kevin his attention was drawn back to the people that where still there. Neither Steph or Tori had seen Vince, it was a little push back, but he kept his hope up. It helped that both girls offered to help find him. “Thanks that’s really sweet.” Kevin said softly.
But that wasn’t enough, Kevin his heart was filling with sadness and fear of losing Vince. He kept looking down and he heard how Stephanie asked here Vince was when it all started. He looked up and was about to answer but then Tori walked toward him and gave him a hug. It felt so good to get a hug and Kevin made sure to return it. Tori once more said that they would find him. “Thanks Tori, that really helped.” Kevin said with a little smile.
Then he looked back at Stephanie again. “Well he was in Las Vegas, for a bachelor party of a friend, but I was there too, the apocalypse happened when I was in the air.” Kevin said softly as it was still hard to talk about. “When I landed, the airport was filled with walkers, but at least I made it to Las Vegas.” He added. Then he took one last bite of the bar, so he was finally done eating. When his mouth empty he continued the story. “I tried to search all places where he could be in Las Vegas but didn’t find him.” Kevin said in the same soft tone.
“Then I reminded myself that Vince would probably try to get to me, so that meant back to the UK.” He continued. “So I figured that he would try to go by boat, since that would be his best option, and that meant he needed to head for New York.” Kevin said. “I know it’s a crazy theory, but we are soul mates and I know Vince better than anyone, so i think that this city was my best option.” Kevin said as he sighed. “So if we need to leave in a hurry, I would try to stay in New York, until I checked a few places here.” He added.
Then Kevin got up and threw the wrapper of the bar in the trash can. “Anyways that’s sort of my story, thanks that you both want to help me, but I think I’m done taking about it for today, if you don’t mind?” Kevin asked with a little smile, he did his best to not sound rude or anything. “Where did Roman go?”

Roman rubbed his face trying to pulling himself together. It's possible that others from his hometown are out there and surviving like him. Perhaps maybe in the future he could go look for them. That put a small smile on his face thinking of his all his boys and his family together again and laughing like old times. He put on his glasses and walked back into the room. Kevin was just asking where he went when he came in and he gave him a silent wave as he zipped up his bag making sure everything was there.

"Hey, that's no problem, Kevin, "Stephanie replied after Kevin told his story about where Vince might be at. "Like I said, we'll find him." Taking a moment to lean back in her seat, she heard him ask where Roman had gotten off to.
"I don't...," she started to say just as Roman walked back into the room from wherever he'd been. "Welcome back, Roman," she said, a faint hint of warmness to her voice. Sitting back up in her chair, she decided to take the time to make sure both her shotgun and her semi-auto were ready to go. Digging around her backpack, she found her gunkit and quickly got to work making sure everything was working right for the day ahead.

Sitting in her seat, Tory silently watched Stephanie take care of her gun before letting her eyes wander around the table as she unconsciously bobbed her foot. Observing the color of the walls, the seats, the napkins, she let her thoughts drift as well.
It was a nice restaurant, she thought, cozy. Certainly better than outside, for sure, but it was still missing her parents. She'd give up every cozy place in the world if it meant seeing them one more time. The grief was intermittent, but it cut like a knife. Tory wondered if Kevin had similar thoughts about Vince as she did about her parents, but she wasn't going to ask. She knew they'd find Vince...if they all stayed together long enough. What if I lose this group too? The thought crossed her mind multiple times but she did her best to force it out each time. Steph, Roman, Kevin, Michael...she barely knew them, but she already felt like the group belonged together. What if we split up after today? They had all just met yesterday. Everyone could choose to leave anytime now. Where would I go? Where could I go? Tory didn't have an answer. She hoped she could make it. She didn't know how, but she felt she could. She'd have to. She'd just have to. Nonetheless, the last thing she wanted to be was alone in this world or in any other.
A soft click from Stephanie cleaning her shotgun and Tory reigned her thoughts back in. "So what comes next?" the young girl asked breaking her short silence before pausing to fix a loose strand of her hair, "Like, what are we going to do today?" Tory's parents had made such decisions for her since the outbreak, but now she didn't have them to guide her.
Every bit of her intuition wanted them to all get in a car and drive, Tory was used to a life on the road, but she also liked having a place to sleep every night. It brought back memories of before the world fell apart. Whatever the group decided to do, Tory knew she'd stick with it. She placed her trust in her older companions. They'd come up with a good plan.

Once he got all his things in check Roman leaned against the wall closest to Tory. He lightly tapped a smooth beat to clear his head as he was planning out his next move. Up to this point his main plan was to survive and for the most part he's been doing that quite well, but now he's in unfamiliar territory so being in group would improve those chances. Besides, he kinda liked being with these people, these seemed nice and were his closest reminder of being home.
Plus, Roman couldn't forget his shotgun. If he left now, he would be armed with only a hacthet in his bag and be prefer not to be in chopping distance. But he still wasn't sure if the others trusted him yet so he would stick around till he could get that back, and then decide whether or not he should stay with them or go back solo.
As he continued making his beat, Romam softly started singing a song with the rhythm.
"I'm not afraid, to take a stand. Everybody come take my hand, we'll walk this road together through the storm, whatever weather cold or warm, just let you know that your not alone. Follow if you feel like you've been down the same road."
