Outpost 31 - MacArthur Bridge, Belle Isle IslandWatching the cathedral through the scope of her rifle, Kate didn't hear at first the climbing-up of someone into the outpost guard tower; glancing over, she saw one of the Belle Isle newcomers - one of our fellow Detroit survivors, Kate mused - and listened as she asked, What's the plan?
"Right now, we--," Kate began, pausing as the outpost's radio screeched quietly, signaling a message coming over. "Hang tight a moment," she said, picking up the handset. "Go ahead," Kate began.
"Kate, it's Sarah over in Communications. Keep watching the area in question; do not open the barricades unless you believe its' absolutely necessary...and you'll know when that is, understood?" came Sarah's voice over the radio.
"Copy, Sarah; will continue watching. Out." Kate replied, setting the handset back down. Looking over at the newcomer, Kate said, "For now, we keep watching that cathedral over there," pausing to point over towards the place in question, "unless either something happens or we get orders to go over and pickup someone, one or the other," adding as she looked over at the other person, "You're one of the newcomers from a few weeks ago, right? I should already know your name from having checked you guys out back in Medical...Ellena, correct?"
Ellena listened to the radio spark to life. Tell them to sit tight keep an eye out. She was planning on spending a nice peaceful day teaching civilians how to protect themselves, and now she was on high alert, hoping that some asshole weren't attacking the isle. She didn't really know what was going on, but then Kate turned and spoke to her; asked her if her name was Ellena. Ellena smiled. She didn't think that she would have remembered it, but for some reason it made her smile that she did know her name.
Ellena: You can call me Ellie. I .... I just want to help out where I can.
Ellena still felt like a bit of an outsider. She had been her a few months now with her people. She and her small group of civilians arrived shortly the Detroit Flu hit, shortly before Tegan's group pushed west to Cali. Ellena thought about going with them. She did, she really did. But something about this place, this small Isle called to her, made her feel safe. Ellana picked up a small pair of spare binoculars that happened to be lying there and she helped Kate watch the horizon. She didn't know what the hell she was looking for, but she watched just the same.
Ellena: Your Kate. Right?
Ellena had heard the name. She lost a few of hers to the Detroit flu as well. Edith Ebner, Jamie Noland. It hurt. It hurt like a son of a bitch. Up until that point, somehow Ellena had made it the last three years without a single person under her watch dying. She didn't know how to handle it other than to do what her military training instilled in her. To be tough, stiff upper lip. If that made her seem cold and uncaring, thats' something she'd have to live with. She couldn't handle the death of two close friends..... She turned to Kate.
Ellena: Have you ever lost anyone Kate?
Her eyes were on Kate, soft and serious. She wanted to get to know the people of Bell Isle better. Make friendships, she felt as if she could start planting roots here instead of waiting it out and seeing how things felt. She felt good about this place, these people, it was time to make some human connections. It had been so long since she had really had a heart to heart with anyone who wasn't in her group she was a little timid at the idea of being open and honest with another living human being and not just venting at the dead that couldn't reach her. It was a therepy thing she would sometimes do. The dead make great listeners.

Chris listened to Sarah as she stood up and composed herself, as if she was getting ready to go elsewhere herself, taking her suggestion to find Kate and to see what was happening as a sort of order as well, one to which she nodded her head before she turned on her heel and walked towards the door and opened it, but not before giving a light wink of greeting towards Elise. Kate plus the mention of gunshots and no asking for help gave Chris a substantial knot in her stomach, she didn't know if it was raiders or survivors on the other side of the MacArthur Bridge. That only meant she would have to venture out and find out for herself and others that would come along.
It took some time, but Chris eventually made it to the bridge, her staff held firmly behind her and at the ready as she looked around for Kate. After a few seconds of searching, she found her wife's obvious ginger hair and grinned, starting to walk up to her before she saw someone else with her, the woman from before with Hyatt in Sarah's office. From the conversation she was a part of, she knew Ellena to be an instructor along with Hyatt. With that in mind, while wondering if Hyatt was getting ready to help them or if he was training newcomers and recruits, she crossed the distance and draped an arm around Kate in a loving hug, "Hey, love! So...birdie told me that there were gunshots around out there, so I came to find you. Everything 'kay?"

As Quentin watched the cathedral waiting for movement, he figured they must have went out the back and were circulating around, just wasn't sure what direction, it didn't matter as there were only one set of stairs leading to the roof, he walked over to where the door was and waited, it was about 15 minutes later when Quentin heard the footsteps coming up the stairs, he aimed at the door, switched his gun to Full Auto and began firing at the door, one of them got a few shots off, one of them going through the door and hitting Quentin in the side
He fell over and dropped his AR-15, then a third had opened the door and quin drew his Beretta M9 and took aim and to Quentin's surprise it was Fred, He had blamed Quentin for taking food before and it was no surprise to Quentin that he ended up with bandits, Fred didn't take his aim off of Quin and that made him think there were more people when there really wasn't, Fred was contemplating wether or not to kill him and take what he has "Just take it and go" Quin said as he looked over to where he had set his duffel bag and backpack down

You can call me Ellie. I .... I just want to help out where I can. .... Your Kate. Right? Ellena asked as her and Kate watched the cathedral just over the Detroit River from Belle Isle; looking over, Kate replied, "Nice to meet you, Ellie; I'm Kate, Belle Isle's senior medic and currently the one in charge of trying to beef up security on the Beautiful Island." Before Kate could continue, Ellie asked, Have you ever lost anyone Kate?
Kate thought about Brian and the effect he had had on her in the short time he'd been around, but before she could talk about him, she caught sight of someone looking around at the inner barricade; Kate smiled when she saw Chris and called out to her; Chris replied, "Hey, love! So...birdie told me that there were gunshots around out there, so I came to find you. Everything 'kay?"
"Yeah, the perch guard thought he saw something; I took a look and that's when we heard gunshots earlier; now we're watching the cathedral over there," pointing towards the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Grace Avenue where the cathedral was located at, "and seeing if we can see anything moving over there," adding, "Come on up, Chris," pointing towards the guard tower ladder as she spoke.

Chris listened to Kate as she specified two different things for concern, that a guard caught something and that there were gunshots, the latter she knew already. And so with that, she climbed the ladder one-handed while the other kept a firm grip on her staff and walked to Kate's side upon ascension to see what it was she was talking about, gently raising her hand above her eyes to shield them from light and to see better.

As Chris climbed up into the guard tower, the radio chirped once again; picking up the handset, she said, "Go ahead."
"Kate, its' Sarah in Communications, any change in the situation?" the voice said over the radio.
"Negative, we're still watching the area and the perch guard's watching as well," pausing as Chris joined her and Ellena inside the guard tower.
"Keep watching the area; those gunshots reported earlier may attract some creepies," Sarah said. "Sarah out." The radio went silent; as Kate set the handset down she smiled, hugged Chris and said, "Well, I guess we keep waiting, babe," turning to watch the cathedral once more.

"Honestly, what I wouldn't give to go out there once in a while...it's good exercise, even with the threat of death. I doubt I'd be all that good with climbing, though. Hell, I may be good with this here staff, but...climbing and running? I'd be a dead girl, y'know?", she asked Kate softly with a thoughtful expression on her face as she gently hugged her wife back. She did want to learn how to freerun, she's seen it years ago in the old ads in newspapers back in the cities, for groups advertising for classes for such a thing, but she never had the interest nor the time to partake in such a thing. What irony, given her current wonderings.
With that in mind, she turned her head to Kate and spoke again, "Do you know how to fight, love? I had it drilled into me, with the exact opposite notion behind it, funny enough."

Quinn kept his gun pointed at him, string him down, then pulled the trigger as he noticed his finger was moving, I hit him in the neck and he fell, choking on his blood in agony, Quinn struggled to stand up as he kept the gun pointed at him with his right hand, his left was used to push off the industrial sized air conditioner he then put his hand where his wound is an applied pressure as he limped over to where the man had fell he shot him in the head and pushed him out of the doorway down the stairs before closing the door he sat back down against the air conditioner and waited for whatever had been attracted to the noise, he was bleeding out and couldn't help but think this is it, it's over, but this time hes ready for it, cause he knew Hailey had a better chance at surviving now, now that she's not a twisted toy for them monsters

"Honestly, what I wouldn't give to go out there once in a while...it's good exercise, even with the threat of death. I doubt I'd be all that good with climbing, though. Hell, I may be good with this here staff, but...climbing and running? I'd be a dead girl, y'know?" Chris said as the three of them - Chris, Ellena & Kate - continued watching the cathedral. Keeping her eyes on the cathedral, Kate replied, "That's what I thought when Brian first started teaching me parkour - the climbing, running, jumping and all that. But a lot of it has to with momentum; that is, keeping yourself in motion and going so that no one can pin you into a corner," pausing to remember Brian and all he'd taught her.
Turning her head to Kate, Chris added, "Do you know how to fight, love? I had it drilled into me, with the exact opposite notion behind it, funny enough."
Thinking for a moment, Kate quipped, "Being from Detroit, its' practically engrained--" Just then the radio chirped; it was the perch guard from over at the yacht club building. "Outpost 31, I got movement inside the cathedral; some shadows and someone who just fell down outside...they didn't get back up, but there's a few more creepies rambling about. What do you want to do?"
Switching frequencies on the handset, Kate said, "Sarah, we got movement at the cathedral; there's definitely someone alive over there. What do you want us to do?" Moments later, Sarah replied, "Go pick 'em up, Kate; be careful, though. You know the rules."
Setting down the handset, Kate walked over and leaned over the tower wall. "Pierre, grab a light truck and fire it up; take a couple of people with you," pausing to look over at Chris, "and see what's going on. Be careful, though; there are creepies starting to hang around, so get in and get back here, fast." Looking over at Chris, Kate whispered, "I'll be back....save my seat, okay?" kissing Chris on the cheek and holding her close before turning to climb down the guard tower ladder and climb aboard the truck.

Hailey awoke to a gunshot on the other side of the water works park, she stood up, her head was pounding and she was a little dizzy, by the time she was able to trace where the gunshot had came from Quinn had already been laying on his back staring at the sky bleeding out
She ran over to him and noticed he lost conscious as his grip on the gun, she checked if for a pulse and sighed in releif realizing he was still alive, she grabbed his pistol and walked over to the stairs, she noticed the bullet holes as she opened the door seeing the pile of body's at the bottom of the stairs, she figured it would be enough to satisfy any geeks that wandered around here
Once she had made sure there was a bullet in every one of they're heads she headed back up the stairs and closed the door, she then walked over to Quinn and searched his pocket for a lighter before climbing over him and tearing his shirt where the bullet had hit, she then flicked the lighter and held it to the wound in an attempt to coterize the wound, she then pushed him over on his stomach to look for a exit wound which she was able to find, she then coterized it with the lighter and pushed him back over on his back before checking to see if he was breathing

Climbing aboard the utility truck, Kate banged on the roof of the truck, yelling, "Let's go, let's go!". Motioning to the others to open the barricades, Kate made sure her revolver and fire-axe were ready to go; once the inner barricade was open, Kate hung on as the truck sped down the bridge to the outer barricade, which opened once the inner barricade closed.
Exiting onto Jefferson Avenue, Kate got on her handheld. "Talk to me, Perch," leaving the mic open for them; using the perch guard's calls, Kate and the others got to within a block of the cathedral; climbing out, she ran over to the driver's side and told him to move slowly towards the cathedral, hoping to draw any creepies away from the church and towards them. "And what will you be doing, Kate?" the driver asked.
"Simple," she replied, "I'm going to run in there and see what's going on," clicking a few times as if to say, Quit worrying, before turning and running towards a side alley so that she could make her way to the cathedral without drawing any attention to herself, thinking, whoever's inside, hang on...
Hailey heard a truck approaching leaving the pistol by Quinn she ran to the edge of the building looking over the side onto the road as she did, "shit" she said as she noticed the truck, she then ran over to where Quinn was and squeezed the button on the strap of the ar-15 removing the strap then ran back to where she had spotted the truck and sighed in releif as it turned on Jefferson ave, it was going towards the cathedral... Or as she calls it, the devils play house
She layed down on her belly and watched as te truck stopped outside the building through the acid of the gun, they didn't look like the others, they looked clean, civilized, from a settlement, she couldn't help but smile as she dropped the gun and ran over to the duffle bag and unzipped it, she searched through the guns that they accumulated over the years, only a few of the guns had ammo for them but that didn't matter anymore
She grabbed the flair gun and pressed the button near the top releasing it checking to see if it's loaded, it was, she closed it and aimed it towards the sky and pulled the trigger, she knew it would draw attention, but Quinn wouldn't survive the night, he needs medical attention, fast...

Meanwhile, back in Communications....."Could someone tell me what's going on out at the Bridge?" Sarah asked, standing over the center table inside Belle Isle's Communications room; having heard the radio traffic from Outpost #31 and the perch guard's radio traffic, Sarah could just imagine Kate charging out to the cathedral and seeing what was going on.
"Sarah," someone said from a nearby radio, "Kate and a small group crossed the bridge and are at the location now, searching for whoever was there," pausing to point the location out on the table map. Looking down at the location, Sarah thought, Just get back safe and sound, Kate....

Making her way through the warren of alleyways and empty spaces between Jefferson Avenue and the cathedral, Kate found herself outside the building, looking up at its' grand spires and thinking, well, no place to climb in...guess I'll just kick the door in.
Finding a nearby door, Kate braced herself, then began slamming her boot heel against the door, trying to knock the door down, knowing every kick she delivered would eventually bring unwanted attention to her. Come on, damn you! she whispered to herself, come on-- finally bringing the door, knocking it slightly ajar as a result. Well, she thought, using her fire-axe to push it aside, here goes nothing, calling out to whoever was inside. "Hello?" she said, "anyone in here? Hello?" repeating the words over and over, hoping someone was still inside and hadn't left the cathedral.

"Oh no... no no no Hailey said as she watched from the other side of the field that had a pathway on the other side of jefferson from the cathedral to the front entrance of the park where Hailey and Quin are, she knelt back down by the duffle bag and searched for a second flair, once she found it she loaded the flair gun then watched and waited from the other side of the field, until they were done searching the cathedral and once she had seen someone exit the building she pointed the gun up and once again squeezed the trigger hoping for better luck this time around
(not sure if you understand where they're at rn, but they are at the makeshift shooting range *which was The waterworks park*)

(OOC: I started off your first post and went from there....don't sweat it, though, Quentin; by the sounds of it, we're pretty close to each other's location. We'll find each other!)Hearing gunshots once more, this time outside the cathedral, Kate rushed back outside, revolver in hand. Looking around, she called out once more, "Anybody here?" pausing to listen for the sounds of the living and not the growling, snarling sounds of the undead. "Anybody here?" she called out again. Putting her back up against a nearby wall, she radioed the rest of her team in the truck and asked them to continue searching along Grand, certain they were in the right place. After taking a few deep breaths, Kate took off for the other side of the cathedral, calling out to whoever was around. "Anybody here?"....

Chris remained up on the roof where she was left by Kate to go on her little scout, and continued to watch in her direction until she was out of sight. It was some time, and each loud, distant sound only made her nerves tighten, tightening until the point was reached where she couldn't take it anymore. She quickly descended the building, made her way to the bridge and managed to get past it back out into the wildlands of the city, to follow in Kate's footsteps.
She trekked for minutes, bashing undead here and there with well-placed bashes from her staff and, with the occasional gunshots for her sound beacon, slowly made her way to the cathedral as well. She looked around quietly, her breathing a bit rushed from the bit of running and the adrenaline she was starting to feel, the paranoia of being stalked by either bandits, undead, or both. It was at this point, she spoke relatively loud enough, but not quite a yell, "Kate? Are you around?"
Post by Kate McCready-Bates on Dec 7, 2016 1:46:57 GMT -5
After several more shouts of "anybody here?" it was apparent to Kate that whoever was here wasn't around...either that, she mused, or--
"Kate? Are you around?" Kate stopped and listened, thinking, Chris? When did she get here? Stepping outside the cathedral by back-tracking her way through the building, Kate emerged once more outside, taking a few deep breaths of the cool air. Looking around, she called out, "Over here, Chris!" loud enough for Chris to hear. In the distance, she could hear the truck she'd taken running quietly, it was that silent around them. "Around the corner, Chris; I'm right over here."
Post by Christensen McCready-Bates on Dec 9, 2016 17:58:43 GMT -5
Chris heard the sound of Kate's voice--what a relief!--and started to jog in the general direction she heard Kate's voice come from. Around a corner, she said, and surely enough Chris did turn a corner and found her wife just outside of the cathedral. She wasted no time in running up to her and hugging her tight and even gave her a peck on the lips before parting her face from hers enough to look at her. Reaching up to brush some of her brilliant ginger hair aside, she spoke, "Hey, don't leave me like that again! I want to be by your side, no matter what."
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
