(OOC: This thread takes place approximately 6 1/2 hours after the 'Back to New Orleans, Back to Home' thread.)
A fly buzzed annoyingly close to Nicole's ear as she stared at the two breeches on the fence that separated Texas Ave from the LA I-10. She waved a hand at the fly in an attempt to dissuade any future flyby's to no avail. This fence had been standing since Nicole had been stationed here. All four years she spent at this dump, this fence kept the military post separated from the civilian world. The two breeches had bodies of civilians on either side it. Dozens of them that were nothing more than bones in tattered clothing now. Two up-armored M1151A's were positioned on the Ft. Polk side, sitting on Texas Ave long abandoned and with all tires blown out and the trucks themselves looking in a state of disrepair. The numbers that were spray painted on the front of the trucks struck her hard.
"258TH MP CO. 3RD PLT"
The mix of emotions she felt pulled her in hundreds of different directions. She should have stayed here. She should have fought along side those she swore to defend. All that she 'should' have done ran through her crowded mind. The truth was a tough pill to swallow. Had she stayed and fought, she would no doubt be dead now.
Her eyes wandered towards the two weapons on top of the two trucks, both still mounted and both rusted beyond repair. She looked behind her, seeing Jace, Arden, Ric, Jess and Paige waiting on her to take point. This was her idea, her op. She needed to own this, get what they came here for and leave.
"Quarter mile down this road at the first intersection where you can make a right... That's where we need to be. My old Motorpool was there. I'd like to take at least two of these vehicles, more if we can." She pointed to the two trucks before them. "My Company building is at the first intersection you can make a left, which is just before the turn off for the motorpool. I want to hit the arms room. We will secure whatever weapons we can that are in working order. Once that is done, we need to go down this road; this is 'Texas'," she said pointing down the road they needed to traverse. "We need to get to the 'AHA'. The 'Ammo Holding Area', take the rounds we need and then we leave."
She took a few steps forward towards the broken fence and paused. "If we split up, one group can get the trucks, the other can get the weapons. We can meet back up on Texas in thirty minutes and head to the 'AHA' together. I will go to the motorpool with Jess and Ric. Jace, can you take Arden and Paige with you to the Company AO? Look for the '258TH MP Co' sign on the building. It's easy to find and it's just down the road... Get to the arms room and get two M2's, two 240B's, two 249's, and whatever M4 carbines and M9 pistols you can find in working order. If they work, they won't have tags on them in the arms room. And get spare barrels for the M2's, the 240's and the 249's. They should be stored near the weapon systems."
Nicole paused a moment and cleared her throat. She had one more place to go to, but again... they didn't need to know about it. Not yet. First things first. Secure the vics and the weapons. Then the ammo. Once that was done, she could steal another five minutes for herself. Pulling her hair back tightly, she made a quick bun and placed her PC over her head. Giving her MOLLEE vest a tug, she drew up her M4. "Jace, take the car with your group so you can load up the weapons. Mine will walk. Less noise the better and the bikes will be loud. We don't need to disturb the dead."
Part of her felt like she wanted to lay down and die. Part of her wanted to just bawl her eyes out. Part of her wanted to get this trip done and leave this place behind her for good. She dreaded the idea she might see a uniform she recognized. She knew what the chances were and she also knew the longer they delayed, the less day light they would end up working with.
"If we have questions, now is the time. If not, I'd like to get underway."
