Abby paced the halls. This is what she had been doing for hours now. Dean and Brian wanted her to walk, to try to get this ball rolling. She was due, but honestly, they didn't have the luxury of waiting for the baby to decide it was ready. According to all calculations, she was a few days past due, and so this was the next step.
Brian had rummaged through the medicine left over at the hospital and found potosin, used to induce pregnancy contractions, but he was leery about doing this. He was hoping to do this as natural as possible, and so was Abby.
Abby was very hormonal, very pregnant and emotional. She walked and cried, feeling herself almost waddle more than walk. She rubbed her belly, as she moved, one hand supporting her own back. She couldn't even see her feet now. They had two false alarms. False labor, since th contractions stopped after a few hours.
Abby wanted Sarah, Amber was the only woman who came with them and she was more one of the men than a woman. She wiped a few tears and turned around to head back towards Dean and Brian , who were sitting , watching her and waiting.
Slowly , awkwardly she approached where they sat and she stopped. Her eyes went wide, and she made a face. "Dean...eeww, this is gross, but do pregnant women pee themselves, cause I think I just did." She was balling now and staring at them in horror. She tried to look down, but all she could see is her own belly.
Dean didn't like this, not one bit. The baby needed to come, they need to get her into labour. There had been two false alarms, two scares. With constantly leaving for an update on the farm they put it at risk. He thought about the medicine to kick it into gear, but it had to happen naturally, not like before. But how long could they wait.
He was watching he rose back and forth, and finally saw her stop. She was a mess, he didn't blame her. "Yes, yes. I think your water broke. It's natural. I haven't head of peeing during this part, afterwards, yes, but not during. You still have time, it doesn't mean the baby is gonna plop out on the floor right this second. The movies want to make you believe that, your best to just keep pacing, or we can try another method."
He looked away, "nipple stimulation is supposed to help, or sex. If you and Max. Maybe, I don't know. It has to happen naturally, we can get it to the point, but not force it. Do you feel any contractions, that's what we need to wait for. That's the sign the baby is coming."
He sat up more in his chair. "It will be fine. If your feet are sore maybe lay down, try one of the other methods we talked about. Stimulate a labour." He didn't move though, she would have to decide what she did on her own.
Abby came forward and Brian looked down at her. He saw Dean react, not really paying attention. "It's blood, not pee Abby," he said moving to stand on his crutches. "Do you feel pain, pain anywhere. I know ache all over, and we're just walking but pain, lots of pain," he said moving to her side. "We need to get you up onto that bed. You're going in to labour."
He looked at Dean. "Get Max, now," he said calmly, looking back at the young medic. Dean rushed out the room and Brian turned back to her. "Let's take some deep breaths now. Repeat like we did last time it was a false alarm. It's like that, only this time it's real, the baby's coming Abby, it will be okay."
Brian helped her up to the bed, made sure she was sitting, leaning back at the right angle. "How far apart is the pain now? Count the seconds."
Abby was trying not to panic, as Brian spoke to her. It was blood, 'Is that normal, blood, is something wrong? I can't see my feet!" She wrung her hands, and then he was trying to walk her to the bed. Pain?" My back hurts bad and the sides of my stomach, but you said it would be down here." She rubbed the lower part of her belly. She didn't hurt there, not now. It was her back and the sides of her belly.
She got in the bed and laid back, trying to stay calm. Breathe. He was telling her to do the breathing excercises. Hell, they didn't help before. She did it though. Deep breath in and a slow exhale. In through the nose and out through her mouth. It was supposed to calm her and help her through the pain, supposedly.
She couldn't count, couldn't think. Her hand grabbed his as a sharp pain hit her, "Oww, ow, owwww." She started to tear up, "Brian, this hurts." She slowly released his hand as it eased off. She rested back a bit and looked at him, "Where is Max?" She had read all the books he said to. "How long?" She knew she had to dilate, and once she was all the way , she would push, but how long was that gonna take?

Max had been outside getting some air. It was hectic. The cars were out front, facing away from the hospital Incass they had to get away. Above the entrance way Amber was sitting, rifle in her lap. She was look out, security. Max rubbed his eyes, and let out a sigh. He was tired, hadn't slept in days. He was nervous, anxious, a mess.mhe was going to be a father, any day now, any moment. He didn't know if he was ready, if any of them were.
Hearing the door open he turned. Dean was there called him into the hospital. Walking down the long messy corridors he came into the room they had set up. There was a candle burning for light, the window providing the rest. Seeing the bed, the equipment. It almost looked normal. He saw Abby and moved to her side, out of the way of everyone
"Is it time he asked," reaching out to Abbt so she could take his hand, "it's coming now, or is it another false alarm." He looked at Abby, then the two doctors. "What do you need me to do? What should I be doing." He looked st Abbt again. "I'm here for you."
"Yes if the baby's coming, it's normal," Brian said feeling her squeeze his hand. She explained where the pain was and he nodded. Max came in with Dean and Brian moved around. He took a deep breath. "Max, while her forehead with the cloth over there, giver her your hand, but not the full hand. She could break bone of the pain hits just right."
He looked at Dean. "Get an IV ready, pain meds, and the other medication we set out." Brian was busy adding on gloves, he leaned forward, feeling around he bean to check Abby the best he could. Dean was busy preparing the IV. Brian leaned back.
"Alright, her dilation is at five. But this means she had been in labour for a few hours already, and we didn't even know it. Still have a a few hours left, we need to increase her dilation." Brian said looking at Dean.
Abby stared at Brian, and nodded. The pain had stopped, but came back rather quickly for her. She gritted her teeth, it was moving , coming from her back around to the front of her stomach, up her sides.
Max came in and she reached for and grabbed his hand. Hearing Brian, Max moved her hand more up to his wrist. Abby tried to breath, and groaned. She stared at Max, 'this hurts!" She panted almost, as she tried to breath.
Brian checked her dilation and said she was in labor for awhile, "Well, you didn't say I would have back pain, that's what I've been having.' The pain eased and she relaxed a bit.
Her contractions were about 4, maybe 5 minutes apart. Nature was taking it's course. She felt nasty, wet between her legs. She felt like she had peed herself and didn't like this one bit. Max did like Brian instructed and tried to help take her mind off it, and basically just be there for her.
Dean got the IV started, and ran some basic fluids through it to keep the vein open and hydrate her. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Abby groaned and tried to get through it as best as she could. Brian was right though, these first few minutes turned into hours. The light had gone from outside and they had to light more candles. Abby's head was slick with sweat, she was being a real trooper. She was snappy with them though, but the men chalked it up to her being in pain. a few hours ago, Brian had offered her something for pain, but she had refused. She didn't want to be drugged for this.
Dean sat in the room, he was waiting, doing his best to calm his nerves.
Max was a mess, he was worried and nervous , but doing his best to be strong for Abby. She looked exhausted and she still had to push. She had puked several times an hour ago, but had finally stopped. It was close.
"It's back labour, had this been before we would of had tests, and be able to time this. But now, we don't have the luxury. I had assumed you'd have been having back pain no matter what. None the less this is perfectly fine, we can make do with what we have and the time remaining," he was still in front of her, Dean off doing the IV
---------------
Abby snapped at him but he brushed it off. It had been the same for these last few hours. Dean was taking it the worse, worse, running around, getting everyhthing ready. They had been prepared, found what they needed. It was now the matter of setting it all up. She refused anything for the pain. But there were pros and cons. She would be in pain, but at least she was more alert and with them.
Brian measured her Dilation again as he had been over and over, "It's at ten now Abby. You need to push, like I had told you. Remember to breath." He had his gloves, was ready. Dean was off to the side, ready to hand him exactly what he needed. "Come on now Abby push. Push."

Abby gripped his hand higher and he smiled down at her. Dean handed him a cloth which he dabbed against her head. "It will be okay Abby. You're going to have this baby. And we'll raise it, keep it fed. We have milk, vegetables. The baby will be warm, safe, in our home." He was always trying to reassure her, felt it's what she needed to hear.
"I know it hurts baby, you need to do it, you need to keep going Hun," he dabbed again and looked at Brian. Max didn't know a single thing about birthing. He had been with women, never was a father, that was about to change. This was all new to him, he just knew he had to be there for her, be there for her now.
-----
Hours passed and it stretched on, and on. She was sweating more, Max whiped it off each time. He was a mess as well. He leaned against the beside, he hand crushing his arm. He was nervous, if it went wrong, his eyes flashed with anger but he took a deep breath, calming himself. Either both Abby and the baby we're living, or Dean and Brian weren't walking out of here.
He dabbed the cloth again. Brian said it was time, she could push. Max readied himself, he was going to be a father.
They had changed the bed over to make it easier for her. Legs up on the stirups, she gripped Max's arm and the side rail of the bed, trying to push. She was sweating to beat the band and tired already, but she needed to do this.
Abby felt the tightening feeling of the contraction, and did as Brian had been instructing her these past few weeks. She pushed with the pressure and then relaxed when the pain subsided. Push with the contraction, he had told her, bare down, and focus. She let out the breath she had been holding, and flopped back against the bed a bit. It hurt som bad she had gritted her teeth to keep from screaming out.
She was fine for the next to push cycles, but she couldn't not make noise any longer. She made a whining sound, and felt sick. "Fuck, damnit!" She dug her nails into Max's arm. This was his fault! He did this to her! She could see Brian's head when she rose up some to push, and right now she hated him too. Just sitting there!
He explained it was the shoulders coming out and she needed to give him a few more really big pushes. Was he serious?! She was panting for breath, but she nodded, "ok, ok, "On the next contraction, she bore down and really pushed, hand on the rail turning white, she was gripping so hard.
Dean changed the bed around, put her legs up. Brian felt useless. Being unable to stand he couldn't do much, not like Max and Dean could. Then she began to push. Brain was there, ready to deliver. He was in front of her, her gripping Max's arm. Brian was ready, Dean was ready, Abby was ready, they all were,
"Push with the contractions. Like we went over, you got this," he said calmly. She swore, cursed, and made noises. Brian saw the head, mguwrded it out, like he went over. It came out smoothly, easier than he expected.thennthe shoulders were next. "Harder Abby, push harder to get the shoulders out," he said to her, looking up as he kept bringing the baby out.

Max felt her gripping his arm, mcrushing it. He flinched and gritted his teeth against her strength. Strength he didn't know she had. She was pushing and he waited and watched Brian. The baby was coming, he was going to be a father. He dotted the cloth agaisnt her head, soaking up the sweat as he watched her, watched her face.
At this point Max didn't say anything, what was he going to say. She dug her nails and he gripped the bed. She was angry at him, he could tell. With all the pain, she was going through. He deserved it. All he could do was just while the sweat in pouring from her head and watch Brian and her face. He didn't want to say anything.
Harder! Did he just say to push harder!? She was pushing as best she could. She was exhausted as it was. Abby bore down one last time, getting the shoulders out, and allowing Brian to assist the baby the rest of the way out. Abby collapsed back against the bed as cries rang out in the room. She was panting for breaths. "Is it okay? Is my baby okay?" She sounded a bit in a panic. She tried to lean forward to look, her hand releasing Max, "Is it a girl, or a boy?" She felt like she had been to war, but she wanted to see her baby.
Dean scrambled forward and helped to clear the baby's airway, and clamp off the umbilical cord. He stared at Max and gave him a goofy grin, holding out a pair of scissors, "You want to cut the cord?" Dean looked at Brian and then at Abby. They had done it. Abby was alive, and fine. She just had to pass the placenta, but that was easy by comparison.
As she gave one final push the baby came. Brain guided it out and too it in his arms, Dean rushed over to do checks. "It's okay, your baby is fine," he said calmly. Dean made sure the airways were clear and clamped off the umbilical cord. Brain set his eyes on Abby. "It's a boy," he said with a smile. "A beautiful baby boy."
He took a breath. "We did it. You're alive. Gone is the technology, and we still did it. You did good Abby, better than I anticipated. "You just need to past the placenta now. Should be easy enough. Dean can you get some blankets, Max can hold the baby." Brian smiled. "You'll get to spend plenty time with him soon Abby. We just need to finish up here. Besides, he'll be attached at your side more thank you'd like."

The baby came, into Brian's arms. Max felt Abby let go of his arm, try and sit up. Max stepped back. He felt dizzy, like he was gonna pass out. He was a father, right now. Him and Abby were parents. He could, not believe it. "Is it..is it oaky," he asked stepping forward. He was smiling, not his usual smirk, but a happy grin, pure joy.
"Is it a girl? A boy? Let me see," he joined Dean and Brian by his side. "A boy...a boy." He was fine with either but a boy. He wanted a boy. He could teach him to hunt, to kill walkers. A boy, to call his own. He grinned snapping out of his thoughts as he hesrd Dean. "No, that's all you. I don't want to mess anything up."
Dean cut the umbilicals cord and Max smiled. The baby was wrapped in a towel and Dean went off to get more, leaving Max with the baby. He came and stood next to Abby, smiling again.
Abby laid there, trying to regain some strength. The pain had left. It was over. She was crying and looked over at Max as he came up to the bed holding their son. She smiled and lifted her arms. " is he alright?" She wanted to look at him, touch him. Count his fingers and toes, make sure he was all there.
She felt some cramps, but Brian had talked with her about that. How her body would have small cramps and contractions to help her with the placenta, the after birth. Her hand barely touched Max's arm," Kelsey... Kelsey Reed, that's him, it's what we talked about." She smiled at Max, as they looked at their son.
A pain struck her and it was written all over her face. Kelsey looked so small in Max's arms. She had expected him to be bigger. She glanced at Brian," is he alright, he looks so small." She knew they would weigh him and measure him, she was just a little concerned.Another pain and Abby gripped the rail," Brian! This is hurting! You said it would t be bad!" Abby couldn't hide the pain on her face. She gripped the rail and put a hand on her stomach. " Brian!, Dean!" Her voice was rising a bit," somethings wrong! This feels like before!" She looked at Max," what's going on?" She laid her head back and another pain gripped her. She cried out in pain. "Brian! Help me!" Brian looked shocked and scared himself as he moved back the drape on her legs and started to look. It shouldn't be this bad, it should just be afterbirth.
"He seems fine. His lack in size might be to the low nutrition you got. We didn't exactly have medication to give you for it. That and the lack of food. But the good news is both you and the baby are fine. You just need tompassmthensfter birth there should be so much pain, not like before. Small contractions, some cramping but that's it."
He smiled at the baby. "Here I though he was going to be Brian Dean Rivers, I like this better, Kelsey Reed Rivers," he smiled. Just then Abby yelled out in pain, for him. It was like ,before, came out of no where. He sat back down in front of her. "She's having contractions again, she's still in labour," Brian said pulling on a new pair of gloves. "Dean, prepare like before."
He looked at Max, then at Abby. "Your family just got a whole lot bigger. You're having twins Abby. You need to push. Like before. Max get there with her. Give Kelsey to Dean." He turned to the new mother. "Come on Abby, you can do it, I know you can."

Max stepped back. "Yeah, the baby looks rather small, are sure it's okay," he said holding his son in his arms. The soft hazel eyes like Abby's. "Ten fingers, ten toes. Nothing went wrong? He's okay." Max was worried, the tone of his voice imminent. "They'll both be okay?" Dean left to ginger some towels and came back shortly after.
Abby gave cry. Brian reacted immediately as Abby cursed at him. Max went to her side. Brian spoke, another baby. Max's fsce flushed white. "What? No, no," Max said shaking his head, "another child." Max moved closer to Abby as Desn took Kelsey in his arms. He took the club he had used before, dabbed it on her head.
"Come on Abby, push, push," he said nervously, "bring that baby into this world. Kelsey needs a sibling, come on." He was smiling. "You can do it, like before."
Brian moved back down and said there was another. Another what? Abby was so tired. The pain came again. She gripped the rails. Max was telling her to push. Push! She was exhausted. She tried to push, to bare down like before. Her poor little body was give out. She collapsed back against the bed. " I can't!" She could hear her baby cry and she looked over at Dean cleaning off her son.
Abby looked at Max and nodded as the next contraction started. Her hands held the rails so tight her knuckles turned white. Abby used them to help pull herself forward as she pushed. She groaned. Face beat red, sweat dripping from her chin. This was definitely not glamorous work.
She looked at Brian as he kept instructing her. How could it be two? How did they not know? She rested in brief moments between pushing . It wasn't any easier the second time around. Her mind kept focusing on one thing. Get the baby out, then you can rest.
"You have to Abby. You have to keep trying. You can't give up," Brian said. "Push now, with the contractions. Like before. You have to do this Abby. I know you feel weak, but you have to keep going." He waited, as she pushed, like he said. She was gripping the rail, using it to hold her up. Brian watched as she struggled.
With every scream the baby cried. Worry filled Max's eyes but Brian looked away. He watched Abby. As he saw the head, crowning, he guided it out. "It crowning, it's crowning. Now you need to push, for the shoulders, harder, like before." He waited, knowing she would as he guided the baby out. It didn't take as long, he knew what he was doing, how exactly it would happen.
The baby was out and he held it in his arms. He s lied at Abby "it's a girl, a baby girl." He moved back, grabbing some towels to clean her off. She had blue eyes, like her father. He smiled down at her. "Did you pick a girls name? Or only a boys? Cause looks like you get to use both."
