Max watched Abby, he face, the way she was defeated and in pain. He'd broken almost every bone in his body, taken a shot to the stomach on numerous occasions. He had the tip of his ear cut off, and sewn back on. He had been drugged with some toxin and forced to vomit it up. Yet the look of pain on her face was one he could not match.
He dabbed the rag agaisnt her head and watched Brian. "Come on Abby, you have to go, have to push." He was by her side, watched her grip whit knuckled to the railing and sit up. But the baby was coming, his baby, their child. She pushed it out s d Max looked in disbelief. He had two kids, two. How did this happen? Didn't they know? Brian ran checks.
He put his hands on his head. "She needs rest now right? Can we give her anything? What else do you need to do? What can I do?"
Abby remembered saying Hope, when Brian asked anout a name. She had passed out, waking hours later.
Abby opened her eyes and looked around. She was warm, and it felt good. Someone had cleaned her up and put her in a fresh bed with warm blankets. She lifted her hand and winced. An IV was running into her hand. She followed the tube with her eyes up to a pole. A bag hung on it. What were they giving her?
Everything flooded back as she tried to move, and pain greeted her. God her stomach aches and her thighs and private parts were on fire. Her muscles screamed with protest as she rolled to her side. She saw two of the hospital bassinets. Two. One for her boy and one for her girl! There had been two! She didn't see anyone else, and started to try to sit up. She wanted to see her babies!

Abby said hope, just before passing out. Brian fans checks, she was alive, just out of it. Dean and Brian took care of the babies and Max made his was out to the hall. He Rubens the bridge of his nose, this was crazy. He was a father, not of one, but if two kids, two more mouths to feed, there were now two people he would raise, with Abby.
Brian came out, on his crutches. Max looked at him. For the longest time nothing was said. Then max looked up. "How long do we wait, before we can head back? How long does she need to recover, till we cns travel with the new-borns, with Kelsey and Hope. I don't want to endanger anyone, but it's ultimate safer at the farm."
"We need to rest, at least over night. They are in no condition to travel right now. You know that. We need to keep them here, it will be fine. It's safe," Beian said, "we'll get you when she wakes up. All three need rest right now, you do too. I know you haven't been sleeping these last few days. Get some rest."
Max nodded, looking away. "Fine, I'll rest. Take care of her."
-----
Hours later Max sat up in the bed he rested in. It was a few rooms down. He had caught a few hours of sleep, but they weren't the best. He was still exhausted. Max needed rest still. He ran a hand through his hair, slowly he got out of bed, made his way over to the room Abby had been in. He didn't know where Dean and Brian were. It was late, sun had set.
Max opened the door came in. He saw Abby and smiled, came to her side, "you're awake," he said sitting on the bed next to her. He took her hand in his own. "Can you believe it? Two Abby, two of them."
He moved off the bed and picked Hope up in his arms. He sat back down and smiled at her, handing over their second born child. He the. Stood back up and took Kelsey in his arms. Both babies were bundled in blankets, sleeping, their bodies warm.
Abby sat there staring at the two baby bassinets. Nothing had prepared her for this. She wasn't ready for one and now they had two. Her whole body ached every time she moved.
Max came in to the room and she stared at him. She was so glad to see him. She touched him as he sat next to her. Almost as if she was making sure he was real." How long was I asleep?" She shook her head," no...Max, what are we going to do? One was risky enough , but two, how will we keep them safe, keep them fed."
He got up and brought Hope to her. Abby hesitated at first, but took her daughter and stared down at her. She was perfect. She looked like Max, she thought. His dark hair topped her small head. Abby chuckled softly and then he came back with Kelsey. Abby glanced at him and touched his little hand. She never knew she could love something this much.
Kelsey started to make a noise then he cried. In a moment, both babies were crying. Abby stared at Max and then made a face. Wet spots had started to form on the front of her hospital gown. The babies crying had caused her milk to drip. She looked shocked and scared."should I try to feed them, I don't know what I'm doing." Her voice expressed her nervousness.

"A few hours. Dean and Brian mostly cleaned up, I informed Amber about what's going on. Dean and her are going back tomorrow, Brian and I will stay till you can leave here. I wanted to give you a day, two, to recover." Max said a she took her hand, "I wanted you to rest." ⎌D spoke a kit one being risky enough. "Yeah, it's risky, but we can't exactly throw it away, can't return it. We'll get through it, we have food, people. We can look after it. It will be fine, I know it will be. I'm not giving up on these kids Abby, on our kids."
He smiled as he held Kelsey. He was grinning, more than he ever had before. These were his kids, his life. He already loved them, as much as he loved Abby. He smiled at her. "They're perfect aren't they. She has your nose, he your eyes." He grinned, "perfect.".
They started to cry and Max looked at them, at her. "I guess you should. It's what they need right," he asked looking from Kelsey to Abby. "You should try it. Do you want me to get Brian? Dean?" He rubbed his head. "Don't you just let them latch on? Let them suck? Hold them, one at a time?" He didn't know what to do.
Abby was a bundle of nerves and raw emotion right now. Her body was flooded with horemones. She heard him say Amber and Dean were leaving tomorrow, and that worried her. It was just going to be her , him and Brian. Was that enough to keep them safe?
The babies cried and she felt herself go tense. Feed them. He made it sound simple, but she had no idea. She tried to calm down. He asked if she wanted Brian," no, no, let me try first." She didn't want to run to Brian for everything. Besides, he was a man, and a field medic. What did he know about babies? Probably as much as she did from reading those books he gave her.
Abby pulled the snaps on the shoulder of her gown, exposing her breast. She glanced at Max," gonna try her first, can we give him that sucking thing?" She couldn't think, couldn't remember the name right that second. She held Hope and gently pulled her up to nurse. She was so nervous. Why? This was all supposed to be perfectly natural, right?
It took a few moments, and some repositioning, but the baby girl finally latched on. It was the oddest sensation ever, but Abby had done it. She hadn't given up or got frustrated. She glanced at Max," this feels so strange." She chuckled softly," not ...I don't know." Her cheeks blushed. She was about to say, not like when you do it. God that was a bad thought to have while nursing your daughter, but it was true. She didn't have anything else to compare it to!
Abby stared down at that little face," I can't wait for Sarah to see them. She's gonna fall in love. She wants a baby, someday. Always has, did you know that?" Abby glanced at Max," I mean she comes off all mothering anyway, but she and I talked about it. Why she never had kids, and it wasn't her, her husband didn't want them, what I got out of it." She smiled at Max," least we know we will have one babysitter." She chuckled again," how do you think they are, the farm? You think everything is alright?" Abby hated to admit it, but she wanted to go home. Sarah was there in charge, Thad would help, but she was basically alone when it came to making decisions right now.

"Okay, go ahead try," Max said holding Kelsey in his arms. He rocked him, watched him. Max couldn't help but smile. His life, his face. Even the way he breathed, he was perfect, bundle of joy in his arms. He watched Abby with a smile, they way she held Hope, tried to feed her. He couldn't help but smile at her, being a mom.
"What sucking thing? What are you talking about," Max asked calmly, running his fingertips along Kelsey's hands. He waited until Hope latched on, shifted on the bed beside her, laying down. He held Kelsey with one hand as the other went around Abby, softly by her shoulder. "How does it feel. Her feeding,"
Max watched Abby, watched her face, the way she repositioned herself and not gave up. Max kissed her forehead and grinned. "Can you believe it Abby? I'm still in shock. We're..,we're parents. It's to hard to wrap my head around, what we've done, together. A mistake, an accident, turned to a miracle."
He looked away. "And two of them. Abby, can you believe it. How are we going to do it?" He was scared. This wasn't normal, wasn't natural. Not for him. He was a trained killer. Could kill a man with any object in the room. He could do it without a second thought, but right now it was different. He was gentle, soft, exposed. No hard shell to cover it up. He didn't know what to do, how to act or think, holding his child.
Max was filled with mixed emotions. Joy, fear, shock, and denial. He didn't know what to do, what to say. He just wanted to hold them, to hold Abby and his children. He wanted to raise them, give them everything he could. He wanted to see everything he could.
"I didn't know that. I figured before this she had been a mom, at some point. I know she worked with kids, but that was it. I know Yameki and Sam we're excited for the baby, Brian and Becky too. All the farm was. Louis was already trying to make baby food for them. Hand mash everything into jars. I think they're probably fine right now, I mean what could go wrong? We haven't had a problem in months." He smiled. "We'll hesd back as soon as we can. You knew Brian was a father right? Had two or three kids of his own. They weren't old, but he was looking at this to be a second chance."
He looked over. "I love you Abby, I don't think I can say that enough."
