Sarah had taken a moment for herself. Showered and dressed she came downstairs and stopped short. Abby, Amber and Thadd were all in the living room. This couldn't be good. Amber was back, but where was Bethany?
She looked at the three and stood in the doorframe," what's going on?" Slowly she moved into the room." Abby, where's Max, is everything alright?"
She stood close to Abby and glanced at Thadd, but nothing to give anything away. Her eyes drifted to Amber," when did you get back?, we've had a hell of a mess." She glanced towards the doorframe and felt sick thinking about what had happened in the other room down the hall." Is Dean alright, Brian?"

Amber lead Abby inside. She stopped on the porch and dragged Thad inside. "We need you too," she said pulling him and closing the door once all three could be there. She looked at Abby. "Sarah, she's okay though? Not hurt," just as she finished saying that Sarah walked down. Sarah spoke a few words and Amber nodded.
"I just got back, moments ago. My mess was greater. Max...he can hear about this later. Brian too." She looked at all three. "While looking for Thadd we came across a farm. There was a farmer, he had calves, milk. We were making a trade, when...when raiders rolled up. They were military, or some were. Took everything. My jacket, shoes.mthey took weapons, the humvee. Everything. After ransacking the house they were insisting to bring us back. They wanted us to bring them here. A report called them away a radio, meaning there's more. They rolled off, taking everything and leaving. But...but not before they killed the farm, and Bethany."
She looked down. "They're still out there, but I made sure they didn't follow me. Went past the turnoff, few clicks past. Did a u-turn and came back the other way. There's no way they could have passed the farm if they were." I was picked up on the side of the road, a woman, she offered a ride, I accepted. I'm letting her refuel, then she has family in the mountains. I'm going tango with her, bring her father and sister back. See if they like this place. We can do a trade, or let them stay here. Either works."
She placed a hand on Thadd's shoulder. "Thadd, I'm sorry. I know Bethany was a close friend. These raiders, they came out of no where. I..I don't know what happened. But it's to late. She's gone. We'll have to be careful, no one leaves in more than threes anymore. We can't have this happen again."

"Yeah of course man. You're a good guy, let them see that," Thadd said with a grin. He watched Amber come over and rag him away. Now inside the living room they were alone. Sarah came down and Thad gave a smile, soft, friendly. She was clean, smelt good. He turned his attention back to Amber and Abby as the Amber spoke.
She went on about raiders, a farmer, Bethsny dying. It was all to much. He sat down, falling to the couch. He had tears in his eyes. Thadd held his head in his hands. "She's...she's... No it can't be. I...I...I don't...know what to say. Fuck, she...she...she's dead? How did it happe? No, don't tell me, I don't want to know."
He stood up. "These raiders, they need to be stopped. We'll look out for them, many we see, we'll put down." He looked at the ladie. "Now I'll go with Amber and this woman. We'll bring back her father, he sister. Abby or Sarah can question Matt. But I want to see him stay. I want to see him with us. He's a good kid, and has my vote to stay on the farm."
He looked at Amber. "Let's go. We need to get there and hurry back. We'll be careful. Amber's right. No less than three lesve from the farm. We do big groups, one at a time. Once Sam and Geogia get back we'll change the frequency and ares of the runs, we need to be careful now."
Abby slowly found herself lowering to the sofa, hearing Amber's words. "No, we can't tell Max, he will go to the extreme." She glanced at Sarah, "We need to double everything, make sure we have eyes at all times." She swallowed, she felt sick. Her eyes went to Thad and she noticed how Sarah had moved behind him and placed her hands on his shoulders. Sarah was so kind, so loving. How could Max have lost it on her the way he did? Abby looked back at Amber, 'no groups less than three. change things up, anything else?" She felt strange being the one sitting here, making these decisions. Hell, she was nobody, just some college kid who by luck survived.
She was responsible for the people here though. She started counting the men they had here on the farm, using her fingers. Not as many as she would have liked. She glanced at Thadd, "you're gonna go with her, right?" Abby glanced up at Sarah, and saw how she was looking down at Thad. What wasgoing on?
Sarah felt herself shake her head. THis is all they needed. Max was already starting to unravel, and now a new threat to fuel his fire. She glanced at Abby and saw her looking at her. She listened to Amber, "so you plan to leave , when?" She heard her tell Thad about Bethany and saw his reaction. God she knew this was hurting him. She hesitated, then went and put her hands on his shoulders, gave a squeeze, then kept listening as they spoke.
Abby was right, they didn't have enough men to cover this place twenty four seven, like it needed to be. They needed to sit down and make up a duty roster, again. Max was right, to a point. People were growing to lax, to comfortable.
Sarah looked down at Thad, and without thinking ran a hand through the back of his hand, before stepping back. Her eyes lifted and she saw Abby looking at her. Sarah looked away, at Amber, "I will gather up the men and get a rotation going , keep the place covered. "

"If we get Jack, Garret, and Joseph in the towers that would cover it. Have them pull double shifts. Memphis, Becky, and One of us can take over come evening. Paul can man the gate, switch off with Penny, we can't have any slacking, not now. Security is top priority. Starting with the new guy Thadd brought in. He was checked for bites I take it, now we just need to question him. Thadd vouched for him, that should be good enough. He can help with the gate, cover a shift with someone."
Amber looked at Thadd, Sarah was comforting him, always the mother of the camp, she smiled. Felt bad for him. If she still was t shaking she'd probably break down. Best save that for tonight. "I'm leaving now. Heading there right after she fills her tank. The sooner we get the back the better. I don't want to prolo it over night."
Amber looked at the small sweater on her. She liked it off and went to the hall closet, grabbing a winter coat she pulled it on. "Alright Thadd if you're coming, let's go." She made her way outside, cutting across the grass to Josie.
"Hope the car is full. We are gonna head out now, get your dad and sister. This is Thad. He'll be coming with us. Protection." She smiled. "Garret, north tower. Double shift."

Thadd felt Sarah's hand on his shoulder and placed a hand over top of it. He blinked back tears, feeling Abby sit beside him. He felt guilty. She died looking for him, searching for him. It was devastating. He didn't know what to say. He blamed himself. This was his fault. Her death, was on him. If he hadn't left, she never had gone looking. Would still be alive. But then he'd have never met Matt. It was a. Toss up.
Amber talked about shifts, and not wanting to prolong a journey. Thadd nodded an agreement. As she left he looked at the girls. "Abby, maybe you want to check on Brian and Dean, if they are still in there." He looked at the opneed door of the silent medbay. "Sarah. Can you talk to Matt. I trust him. Be nice to him. He's a good guy,ma sweetheart. He'll fit in, work hard. I can feel it."
He made his way outside across the grass, stopping at the new car he saw the calf in the back seat, opening the door he lead it out. It wanders off, starting to eat the grass, where had that came from? He shook his head.
"Nice to meet you Josie. We should get leaving, have little time to waste."

"Not as many hordes as you'd expect. Lots of stick to the cities. We haven't came across any our entire time out there. Maybe a large group hear and there, but none we couldn't handle. Biggest one was back in Charolette. But it laid dormant on the edge of the city, got lucky. Probably a hundred of them. Fifteen of us, we could have handled it. Having ammo, which is running low, helps for all that."
Before he could say anything. Else Amber and Thaddeus came sound the corner. Both had on combat vests, and carried rifles. They spoke heir piece and Garret listened. They were to head out Josie, he got stuck on guard duty. Garret nodded, "yeah, I'll head out to the tower, you three stay safe."
Garret grabbed his rifle and made his way to the tower, milk bing up. Up above he saw the lay of the fields, the trees just behind it. It was peaceful. Only one road to main watch, you'd see a car coming from there for miles. No walkers, to early for that, but by the end of the day, he'd guess twelve would be stacked up on the walls for them to take down.
Josie had almost finished and when she topped off the gas tank, she smiled at Garret.
"Thanks for the petrol, mate!" Said in a very bad, Australian accent as she handed the hose back to him to be put away. Amber came back out with a pretty tall guy who looked menacing enough.
"Thanks for the info Garret. I promise I'll get them back in one piece." She watched as the big guy removed the calf from the back seat and set it free. "Free range milk. That's the way to go." She was trying to bring brevity into the moment even though none of them looked particularly happy. Garret was sent off to guard duty and she turned back to Thad and Amber.
"Nice to meet you. I get that he's protection, but I have a feeling he's more for you then for me. Don't worry Thad, I don't bite...at least, not on the first date."
She put the cap back on and left the back door open for whoever wanted to climb in the back. She assumed it would be Thad and even more so, she assumed he would have a gun to her back, behind the seat, the entire ride. As long as he didn't pull the trigger when they hit a bump, all would be okay.
"Let's roll out then. We'll talk to my dad. You military Thad? If you are, maybe you'll have more of a chance of talking him into coming here then I will. He just wants to protect his daughters, that's all. We have a sweet set up in the mountains. That's our property."
She got in the driver's side and in the back, on the floorboards, he would see maps and papers that she had written on. The engine roared and she waited for them to climb in before finally hitting the road again and heading for the mountains.
Sarah stood still, listening to Amber and Thad. She knew he would go with her. Abby was to check on Brian and Dean. He wanted her to check on the new guy. She nodded, she could do that. It seemed to mean a lot to Thad.
Sarah hesitated as they walked out to leave. She wanted to hug him, kiss him, tell him to be careful, but she didn't dare. What had happened was wonderful, but it was too soon. She would wait, talk to him when he get back. He was feeling pain at Bethany's death, but he was doing his duty. It would have to wait, and she would be there for him.
Sarah glanced at Abby," I'm gonna find this Matt, you check on Brian and Dean." She headed out the same door Thad and Amber had just walked through and came face to face with Becky. Sarah felt sick, immediately. Would she know? Would she be able to tell? She looked at Becky and saw the guy with her. She forced a smile," this the new guy, Matt, who came with Thad? " she looked at him and saw Thad was right. He appeared to be a nice guy. " I'm Sarah." She glanced at Becky," we got some serious stuff going on, Thad and Amber are going with that woman to get her family, there's a group running around, Amber and Bethany came across them, didn't end well, Bethany is dead. Amber wants our towers manned twenty four seven and the gate." She looked at Matt," you willing to help out with that?"
Abby saw the look that crossed Sarah's face when Amber wanted Thad to go with her and he agreed. She never said a word, but agreed as Amber and Thad spoke about what they wanted to happen while they were gone.
The two left the living room leaving out with this new woman. Abby glanced at Sarah. She wanted to ask her what was going on, but Sarah spoke before she could." Alright, but later we need to talk." She gripped Sarah's hand then headed down the hall as she went out side.
Abby paused at the door, easing into the doorway. She saw Brian and Deab inside. She felt horrible about what had happened in here. They were cleaning up. Least that was what it looked like," you two alright?" She looked at Dean and couldn't help but turn away , ashamed what Max had done," I'm sorry he did that, that he lost control like that." What else could she say?

Matt watched as Thadd walked out the house with Amber. ‘What was her name again…?’ Matt thought. ‘Right Amber’ he added in his thoughts. Everyone seemed on edge and just hoped everything was ok. “Wow, I certainly didn’t pick a good time to join.” He said a little worried.
Just then a new face joined him and Becky, she introduced herself as Sara. “Nice to meet you.” He spoke with a smile. Sara immediately began talking to Becky ,telling her some horrible things had happened, Thad was going to help a girl get her family and there was a group around who killed a girl named Bethany. “That sounds horrible.” He said with a sad look on his face. He didn’t know the girl, but news like this sucked, even if he was an outsider.
He then heard Sara said Amber wanted the towers and gate to be guarded twenty four seven and she asked Matt if he wanted to help. “Well if I’m allowed to stay, I will do anything to help.” He spoke looking at her.
"Abby," Briannsaid sitting up, "I heard the conversation outside, Bethany, she's dead, I'm sorry. And Amber and Thad are leaving? They haven't been gone enough? They may be brining some people back. But I don't know if it's worth risking their safety. It's their and your call though. Personally I think it's a bad idea. They probably already left didn't they."
Brian looked away. "What Max did was uncalled for. But me and Dean have been talking. He wasn't wrong in what he did. Max, he didn't hurt us, not enough for it to be permanent. He wanted instant pain, that wouldn't last. What we did here, messing up like we did. It can't happen, not with you."
He stood up on his crutches and took her hands in his. "Abby, we'll train, study, prepare ourselves for when it happens. Now you may not even need a c-section if that's the case, we can deliver it. Naturally we know what we are doing, but not like this. What happened here this morning. We were in over our heads."
He looked down again. Dean had gathered a few items, but kept quiet as usual. The bottle they had used for sterilization was almost empty, mostly do to Dean who sat there, knees to his chest, staring straight ahead.
"I'm sorry Abby," Brian said calmly, "but we are fine. Sarah, I heard Max slapped her. Is she..is she okay." He knew Max could pack a blow. He knew he could hit enough to leave a mark. If she bleeding, stitches, a butterfly stitch at the very least.
"Where is Max, he upstairs? Can you, can you take Dean to the barn, make sure he gets some rest. After what we went through today. He needs it."
He moved past Abby. "I'm going to go talk to Max," he said making his way to the stairs. He hobbled up. Using the banister to pull himself up. At the top it was a short hobble to Max's room.
He knocked on the door. "Max, we need to talk," he said banging again, "need to talk now." Brian had a gaze in his eyes, he was going to talk some sense into Max. When the door opened Brian stepped in closing it behind him.
Sarah came out and Becky stepped back. She saw her smile and smiled back. A million questions flooded through her mind of what went on inside. But she knew she wouldn't get answers unless they were given to her. She wasn't going to go hunting for them, not today.
"Thad came back. You checked him for bites? Was he hurt? Did he say anything? Does he know i..I attacked you. Sarah I'm sorry. I lost my temper, I shouldn't have done that. I know I already apologized, and I'll find a way to make it up to you." She looked away. "Thad he brought back supplies. That old truck, it's filled with them. I just saw him leave, with Amber, and that car, where are they going?"
She realized she was asking so many questions and blushed. Thad was her ex now, she wasn't supposed to care. What were they going to be like. They hadn't talked since he exploded with her and left. She shocked her head. When he was back they'd figure it out. But having someone she still loved, her best friend, both gone. She was worried to say the least.
"Yes this Matt. He came with Thadd. Thadd already asked him the initial questions to bring him here. The field test as Amber called it." She held her clipboard of listed medications. "No bites or injuries. Is allergic to fish, but won't be an issue once I let Louis know."
She looked at the clipboard. "Georgia and Sam are still out on their run. Do you need me in a tower, or on the Gate," she asked looking at Sarah. Garret had gone up, Jack and Memohis too. Paul was left on the gate. Seemed each are was covered, for now.
"How are we doing rotation. We don't have enough people to put in the towers twenty four seven. We barely have enough to swap out two shifts."
Sarah heard the rush of questions from Becky. She glanced at Matt, and sorta watched him , then tried her best to answer Becky. "yes, he's clean, and didn't appear injured at all that I saw. " Sarah didn't know what to say about her being attacked, 'I....didn't tell him, so I don't know if he knows, and right now..." She looked at Becky, eye to eye, 'I think this place has been through enough, I think he has been through enough, past is past." She smiled at Becky , then looked at Matt, 'Do you want to stay? I know this all looks bad right now, but we do try to have safety and some semblance of normalcy around here." She glanced at the old truck and grinned. Thad hadn't even mentioned supplies to her, 'Becky, how about we start unloading and sorting through all that stuff, first?" She moved over towards the steps, and looked out at the farm, 'I don't know, to be honest, we are short handed, but we will figure it out. I can take a watch, some of us are gonna have to pull double duty for awhile, that's the best I can come up with, maybe after we unload , we can sit down and go through the list and make a rotation , then get everyone together and explain what's going on." She turned back and faced Becky and Matt, "I won't keep anyone in the dark, we are all in this together and they have a right to know what is going on."
Abby moved further in. She looked at Dean and felt nothing but guilt and sympathy for the man. "Yeah, they decided they needed to go. "
When Brian stood up, she moved forward, wanting to help him. She knew he wasn't always steady on those things. He took her hands and apologized, 'Brian, you and Dean have nothing to say sorry for. You two did your bests, I am sorry for how I reacted, fear just got the best of me." She looked at Brian, 'I mean it, i am scared to death to have this baby, with everything going on, I..hell, I don't know."
He asked about Sarah, 'I think her nose and lip were bleeding ,but she took a shower and I think it's gonna be alright. She seemed alright a few moments ago, and I am glad she didn't fall apart because of it."
Brian asked about Max, if he was upstairs, 'I think so. Brian, he's just scared, he lost control." She was trying yet again to explain for him. She just stopped, what excuse could she really give? She glanced over at Dean as Brian asked her to help him, "Sure...of course." Brian left the room and she moved over to Dean, "Dean, please..let me help you?" She reached down and took his hand, removing the bottle, 'Dean, let's go to the barn and lie down, hm?' She leaned down and looked at him, "It wasn't your fault." She would help him up and assist him out the back door and too the barn, if he let her.

Matt just kept his mouth shut and let Becky ramble all the questions. Some seconds she seemed to realize Sarah asked her about him, it was then she said she checked Matt, no bites allergic to fish, etc… . ”That’s me.” He said with a little smile. Matt heard how Sarah said Thadd was ok and how she didn’t tell him about a fight, he did his best not to listen in, since that was rude, so he just looked around, until Sarah asked him if he wanted to stay, seeing how bad things were.
“Yes, I want to stay and help where I can, help keeping this place as great as it looks.” Matt said with a smile. “Keep this a safe place for survivors.” He added. “So yeah let’s get to work.” He said enthusiastic.
Matt followed behind the girls as Sarah said it would be good if they unload the truck first. He heard her talk about double shifts and how they had to sit down later on, again he did his best not to listen in on personal things. He looked back at Sarah when she said they were all in this together. “Well if everyone supports each other and we all give everything we have, we should be able to fix whatever problems there are.” he said with a wink.
Then he walked closer to the truck. “So do I get my cat MT out first and bring him to my sleeping place or de we unload the truck first?” he asked smiling at them. He knew they were all a bit tense and he only knew half of what was going on, but he still wanted to try to be a little optimistic and try to lighten up the mood for them.
When her eyes opened, she looked at the ceiling inside a room where she had no idea where she was at. She sat up quickly, clinging to the blanket that had been laid on top of her. The last thing she remembered seeing was her sister and her father, dead in their cabin in the mountains. Her heart was racing as she looked around seeing Thad and Amber quietly awaiting her return. A bag of her things was by the door.
She had passed out. She remembered the overwhelming sense of grief that came over her and he hoped what she was seeing was just a nightmare. She saw a bucket on the nightstand and immediately reached for it as she felt her stomach lurch. What little was in there came out as the visage of her family haunted her mind. She tried not to cry, but she couldn't stop herself. Three more times her stomach would churn, forcing everything, including the yellowish bile to come right out.
When she thought she was done, she sat there, hair messed, face pale, body weak.
"Where....where are we?" She thought she knew the answer as really, there was no where else to go now. "Back at the farm?"
Just like that Matt was accosted. She had it on good faith he would have been anyways, but now it was official. He helped out, he could stay. Already he was gung-ho to help them. For now he could stick to something simple, miles img out the truck, divvying up supplies making sure it all found its place. The clothes would be given to those who needed hem, blankets and that as well. Weapons were put in the armoury. Food was handed to Louis, what little of it there was.
When they were done the truck was was parked with the other cars. Becky showed Matt to where his cot would be, it was in the back corner of the barn. He'd probably end up bunking with Thad in tarpped off room. Without Becky sleeping with him now, Thad would need a new roommate. Allowing him to leave his supplies on the cot that had once been her she smiled.
Becky took a seat on Thad's cot, sitting down and crossing his legs. Unpacking the truck and getting Matt set up took the better part of a few hours. It wasn't long before Thad, Amber, and Josie came back. They explained what happened at the cabin, finding her family dead, and the place destroyed. They came back, Josie passed out from shock and was still out cold in the med-bay with Dean and the pair who returned with her.
Having lost everything they already decided she could stay. She didn't have anything left. Becky smiled at Matt. "It will be better. It has to be."

Leaving the cabin behind Thad drove as fast as he could. He admitted it was reckless, but he wanted to put distance between him and the cabin. Coming to the farm took about two hours, gone the total of five hours. When they came back the gate was opened. Parking the car with the others Thad carried Josie to the infirmary.
They let her rest in bed while Dean ran some tests. Thad waited, there until she was awake. He didn't know why, felt he needed to know if she was okay. After what she had been through, she would need someone. Amber was in and out, stopping to check in while planning runs and overseeing the farm security the best she could.
When Josie awoke Thad moved forward, to beside her bed. "Easy now, not so fast." He spoke calm, softly. "You passed out, we brought you back to the farm." He placed a hand on her back, rubbing it softly, pulling back her hair as to no get in the way of the bile.
"I'm sorry. I don't know what to say. If you need to talk, I'm here. You can stay on the farm, or leave if you like. No ones keeping you anywhere. You're free to do what you want, but we suggest you rest." He looked down at her, face saddened. "I don't know what you went though, so i won't pretend I did. But I'm here for you."
