Gender:
Female
Appearance:
Haruka is a lithe girl in her late teens. She stands at about 5'6'' with long runner's legs and a medium torso. Her skin is pale and clear, and her black hair is long and straight, though usually up in some form of a messy bun. Her eyes, large and brimming with naivety, are brown. She wears a pair of sky blue shorts, and from beneath her dirtied sun yellow cardigan, a white tank top is visible. Pink knee socks poke out from her sneakers, which have seen better days. Even in the apocalypse, she wears hope and determination on her features, and her eyes reflect a childlike innocence that hasn't fully been extinguished by the circumstances of this new world. She is ethnically Japanese.
Occupation (studies and job before the outbreak):
Before the apocalypse, Haruka was a high school student. She has never had a job, since her father wanted her to study and focus on school instead.
Hometown (city, state, country):
Haruka was born in Ehime, Shikoku, Japan. She only lived there until she was five, however, and then relocated to Virginia with her father.
Relationships (relatives, friends,...):
Haruka is the only daughter of Akihiro Yamada. She barely remembers her mother, who passed when she was five, but Aki has been everything she's needed and more throughout her entire life. Haruka is a Daddy's Girl through and through, and loves him almost as intensely as he loves her. For this reason, she didn't mind much when Aki kept a tight hold on who she was and wasn't allowed to be friends with, and as a result, her circle of friends has always been kept to a minimum. She has never had a boyfriend.
Haruka got separated from her father about a year into the apocalypse, and traveled with a man named Benedict, who had previously lived in her father's stronghold. He promised to take her to him, but that proved to be a lie. She spent time with Benedict and his father's crew of bandits more or less against her will, but even then, Benedict has proven to be one of her only friends, and one of the only people she can depend on, other than her father. Unfortunately, the current status and whereabouts of both men are unknown.

Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
Haruka was born in Ehime, Shikoku, Japan. She lived there with her mother and father until she was five. Her mother's death, which she barely remembers, spurned her father's move to America. She moved to Virginia with her father as a child and lived with him all her life, being a normal student, unaware of her father's true occupation or the secret life that supported them both. With a small group of friends and not much else, Haruka was glued to her father's side, and when he wasn't available, she poured herself into her studies in preparation for university life in the fall.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
On the day of the outbreak, Haruka was in class with her friends. There had been rumors of the sickness going around, of the students becoming violent, and she was doing her best to ignore them. An announcement came over the intercom that the students needed to stay in their classrooms, and that the school was about to enter a lock-down. Almost immediately, rumors started to circulate about the nurse's office and the staff, about the sick students from that morning, but before they had a chance to close their doors to the outside world, Aki arrived and demanded his daughter be released to him. Whether he was denied or not is unknown to Haruka; all she knows is that he arrived in her classroom, thoroughly irritated, and took her home. The fate of the school and the students would never come to befall her.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
After the apocalypse, Aki and his group of "friends" almost immediately set out to fortifying and protecting their own. The little suburb that Haruka had grown up in and the surrounding area was overtaken by them, and built up to be protected. Haruka lived, thanks to Aki, in safety and comfort for the first half of the apocalypse. She rarely saw him act out his true nature towards others, and as such, still idolizes him in her mind. She made friends with a man named Benedict, who had come to join their stronghold with his father, Clyde. They lived among them for months, before they vanished from the compound for reasons beyond her knowledge. All Aki would tell her was that they needed to leave.
Everything went smoothly until a year into the apocalypse, when Aki went out to lead a run, which wasn't always common, and left her at home with his friends, who had been assigned to guard her. Before she knew what was happening, the stronghold was under attack, and bandits swarmed the community. They attacked and killed every one of her father's guardians, but lost many of their lives in the struggle. Benedict appeared seemingly out of nowhere and promised to take her to Aki. Trusting a familiar face, she decided to go with him.
But that would prove to be false. He took her from the community, and instead of bringing her to her own father, he brought her to his. Clyde was now the leader of a group of bandits, the same ones that had invaded the stronghold. Benedict claimed to have lied because he cared about her and knew she wouldn't have gone with him if given the choice. But he didn't want her to get hurt or killed, and so she went with him and his crew without much of a choice, with a heavy heart for the absence of her father.
She stayed with the crew for about half a year, and in that time, she witnessed glimpses of negative situations. Benedict did his best to shield her from them, but he was not as successful as her father had been. Benedict, tired of his father and his practices, proposed that the two of them break off from the group, which she agreed to. They traveled together, alone, for about six months before Clyde caught up to his son, enraged. As they were fleeing, Benedict was shot, and he urged Haruka to go on without him. Without much of a choice, and not wanting to be in the bandits' care again, she honored his wishes and fled the scene, with his blood fresh on her hands.
She is currently alone for the first time in the apocalypse, for the first time in her life, and is searching desperately for her father.
