Nate laid out in the truck. He was still fading in an out of consciousness. Sweat was still running off his head, his teeth gritted in pain. Mia had him hooked up to a saline bag. He didn't know what it was, or what it was supposed to do to him. Where did she even get the bag, was it worth waisting on him.
He felt the truck stop. There was a closed gate, someone would have to come out and open it. He looked up at Mia from where he was laying down.
There was lights on in the house, coming from one window on the lower floor. Beside that it was dark, the sum now fully set, making the world covered in a sheet of blackness.
Nate tried to sit up, he still aches, felt hot. "Open the gate and pull into the yard. There has to be people in there, generators don't last that long," he said weakly.
Mia felt his head and pressed gently on his should," you need to rest and relax." Honest to god, she didn't even know how he was still awake. With everything he should have passed out from the pain by now, she thought. Mia glanced at Kelly," can you get the gate?" She didn't want to leave Nate. The sun was gone down and she had to use a flash light to look in the bag and the box of medical supplies. She found a small vile and gripped it tight. She could draw this up and give it to him through the IV. Slow , and steady since she didn't have it in a bag, but it was the same concept. Least she had one left, she had pills, but those would be a last resort. She needed it to get straight to his bloodstream, the antibiotics.
Mia sat next to him again," Nate, just try to be calm and don't keep trying to be in charge right now." She was worried they had not reacted fast enough, that the infection was still in there and he would turn.
"We don't know who will be in there," Kelly spoke finally already very weary of the house with lights, "Could be friendly or they could wait till we're sleepin and slit our throats open. I know."
His hand went to the big thick scar across his throat, it brought back the memory that someone almost got Kelly Stone before they got him.
The woman asked politely if he'd open the gate anyways and he nodded with a throat clearing grunt. Before he jumped out of the truck bed he grabbed his old pistol cocked it and went towards the gate. Generators honestly don't last this long, he thought, because someone is home.
Scanning his surroundings Kelly hulked over to the gate, simple enough, it was a rope hooked around a old post by a nail. He jerked once and the dry rotted rope snapped easily falling to the ground. Kelly pushed the gate open and waved them through stopping them, "Go on up I'm going to walk behind in case they is trouble."

Jake stopped the truck, since he couldn’t drive any further, a gate was blocking the way. The reason he stopped was because he noticed the lights. He knew it wasn’t wise just to trust strangers and enter their yard, but they had to do something, Nate needed a stable place.
He heard how Nate started talking, followed by Mia telling him he needed to rest. Jake looked over his shoulder. “You have to listen to the pretty lady.” Jake said with a little smile. Not wanting to show how worried he was, worried because he didn’t want to lose yet another friend.
He heard how Mia asked if Kelly wanted to open the gate. Jake heard how Kelly said it could be dangerous and for once he was on the same page with him, but there was no alternative. So he watched Kelly get out, open the gate and waving them over. Jake rolled down the car window and heard how Kelly said he would go behind, for when these people were hostile. Jake nodded and sighed. “Be careful.” He said as he looked at Kelly. Jake knew they had their differences, but there was no reason to hold a grudge towards anyone and he would never want anyone dead, which didn’t mean he already trusted the guy.
Then he drove into the yard and turned off the engine. He turned around as far as he could ,since he was still in the cart seat and looked at Mia. “Want me to go check it out first?” he asked softly. “Just knock on the door and see who we are dealing with?” he added.
Nate was tired, exhausted. He wanted to sleep, just close his eyes. He hurt all over, alla cross his body. His stump ecspecially. He could barely manage to move, every blink was longer and longer. He was almost afraid, afraid that if he closed his eyes he would never wake up. He had to keep fighting, using any energy he could to stay awake.
He felt the air as the door opened and Kelly got out. It was litte a rush to his face. He shivered more than before, but was still burning hot to the touch. He was sweating, how could he be cold right now. He looked at Mia as Jake pulled the truck through the gate. She said not to lead anymore, but he had to. Jake asked a question, see he couldn't even take charge.
"We don't know how many there are," Nate said quietly again, "don't froget the barn." He felt the sweat fall off his face as he tried to sit up strsighter. "Just hurry. I'm freezing in here."
Mia dabbed at the sweat rising on Nate's head and glanced at Kelly and then Jake and lastly Emre," we gotta get him inside so I can get this IV hung up properly and really get an assessment of his status." God , she still talked like a nurse after all this time. She didn't want anyone to get hurt, but they all needed a rest.
She still couldn't believe Dannie had just abandoned them. It wasn't like her at all.
Mia shushed Nate," shhh, let us handle this." Jake asked what should he do, just go up and knock? Mia hesitated. " we don't want to attract any dead," she glanced at Kelly who had walked in behind the truck. " I would t go all the way up, can we cover him, if he does?
The majority of the journey, Emre kept quiet and too himself. There was nothing wrong, he was just tired and hungry, he didn't feel like wasting the energy on moving around and talking all the time. The truck stopped in front of some gates that needed to be opened, Nate suggested someone go out and open it. Emre thought about doing it, sure, he'd do it if no one else would, but luckily for him, Kelly did it himself. Emre waited for Jake to park the truck in the yard, after which he got out of the truck, but left the door open so he could listen to their conversation. Mia told them that they needed to get Nate inside, it was a lot easier said than done. Who knows what was inside their, Emre just waited for a firm plan to be set.
These people had no real plans and he hated them for it. As usual Kelly took off through the yard keeping to the shadows with a itching finger on the trigger. The Nate guy in his opinion was dead already, if he didn't turn before day break Kelly would be surprised. He would be one less to worry about either way and Kelly had no problem putting a bullet in him dead or alive.
Kelly strained to hear any noises inside but it was quiet as he crouched walking under the window on the side of the house. His goal was to come in from the back door while they probably made asses of themselves and came through the front. The man cared less if these people were enemies or friendly he was going to kill them ALL that was inside the house. A vision flashed in his mind:
It was Kelly coming in behind them firing into their unsuspecting skulss blowing brain matter over his current party! He laughs and fires an "accidental" shot at Jake that puts his right eye behind him.
Then he was standing by the backdoor in a cold sweat. A wolf like smile on his face. That was his plan now Jake and Emre needed to knock on that door.

Jake heard how once more Nate tried to lead, followed by Mia trying to calm him down. “Mia is right, you need to relax, we’ll handle this.” He replied. Then Jake listened to Mia and nodded. “Well, anyways Kelly should be in position right now, if I got it right, he will enter through the backdoor, while we distract them at the front door.” Jake said. “If they are good people, we won’t do anything, if not, well you know what will happen then.” He added.
Then he looked at Nate and back to Mia. “Only thing that counts now, is getting him to safety.” After that sentence Jake got out of the car and grabbed his gun from the holster. He didn’t go to the door yet, but waited for Emre, that and if someone disagreed on the plan, they could still stop him.
They kept saying he shouldn't lead, yet then would ask what to do. If they couldn't decide then he could for them. He may be weak but he could still talk. It helped him keep awake. He didn't want to go to sleep, not till they were safe. He would keep fighting it till they were. Kelly suggested that he go around back. It was a good plan, but that was assuming there even was a back. Some farm houses only had one door in or out. By the layout of the windows he assumed it was one in the same.
While there was a bacl door, it was locked, frozen shut, haven't been opened in years. There was stuff piles in front. Now the back entrance was more used as a storage room. The front doors light came on, lighting up the yard and truck. Whoever inside knew they were there. The fact that they were firing meant that they had a chance.
"Emre should hang back," Nate said looking away, "keep cover for you."
He looked at Mia and just shook his head not to scold him. He squeezed her knee with his, now only, hand and moved to sit up strsighter. "Just hurry. I'm freezing."
" Jake, that light came on, someone is in there. " she nodded at the front porch. She did t know whether to trust this or not. These people could be waiting for them to get inside and then jump them, playing games. Cat and mouse.
Nate said for Emre to hang back and cover Jake. Sounded like a good idea to her. She glanced at Emre," wait here by the truck. Nate grabbed her knee," I know, Baby, we will get you warm soon." She patted his hand and then got out of the truck. She moved towards the door with Jake. She wanted to be there to press upon the people inside how important they needed their help, in case they weren't wanting to help them.

Jake and Mia made their way to the door, he kept his gun behind his back and when Mia and Emre were in position, he knocked. Sweat dripped from his forehead, even though it was freezing outside. Noised could be heard from the inside, as if they were getting ready for an attack. “We don’t mean you harm, we just need help, please.” He yelled.
Jake normally wouldn’t trust so easily, but they we prepared and Nate needed help urgently. Again he waited as the noised continued.
Leonard pressed himself against the front door. He held his shotgun in his hands. He didn't even know how to really use it. It was the farmers who had lived here, but was fully loaded. If these people attacked he could fire, but with terrible aim.
He had watched the truck from the living room window, watching them carefully. There are half a dozen of them, a loud truck. People had guns, weapons, he was screwed.
He looked through the mailslot at the man on the porch, and quickly shuffled around for something to put in front of the door. He didn't want these people breaking in, there were to many of him, to armed.
The man spoke, he didn't want to hurt them. He wanted help. Leonard couldn't help him, they wouldn't want his help.
"Go away," he said against the door, "I can't help you." It wasn't a speech if confidence, merely a nervous wreck.
Mia was closer than Nate and Emre. She could hear the male voice. He can't help them! He wanted them to go away! Fuck this! She needed to get Nate inside," look, mister, we can trade, something, food, supplies. We need to have a place for the night, and you got power, we can see the light." She glanced back at the truck, waiting, " come on, mister, we don't want to hurt anyone, please, don't turn us into those kind of people."

Jake already felt his anger slowly getting the upper hand as the guy said he couldn’t help them. But he took a deep breath and knew he had to stay calm, getting Nate to safety was more important than hitting the asshole that didn’t want to help. Jake listened as Mia purposed to trade for shelter, followed by something what sounded a bit like a threat, which was good.
“You heard my friend, not don’t be heartless and open up, we got someone that is badly wounded, he needs help and I wouldn’t want the door to get broken.” Jake said stern. “Fellow survivors need to help each other and it’s already very kind of my friend here to offer a trade, you see we don’t have a lot, but our wounded friend is more important.” Jake said in the same stern way. “So open up!” he yelled. "Please." he said softer with a pich of desperation.
Kelly had come back to the front porch after hearing the man inside, Kelly was out of patience with these people. With his pistol Kelly walks straight to the front door and with a heavy foot he kicked right at the door lock and door knob.
The door bursting open gave Kelly a flash of memory, the one time he broke down the door to murder his fourth victim before the outbreak, and he stepped back instead of going in.
"Look mister they is a lot of us," he was barking with a cold hint in his words, "Let us fix our fuckin' friend in peace or we take this place with force!"
Kelly looked at the startled faces, "Balls up people. Peace with force you pansies."
A new voice spoke, this one was feminine, a woman. "This isn't a bed and breakfast, I'm sorry," Loensrd said through the door, "i..I..I chat let you in. It went bad last time, really bad. I won't let that happen again. Now go away." He said the last part sternly, with intent and force behind it. He was serious, they were not coming in.
, the original voice spoke this time Leonard could hear the anger. "I already said I can't help you, I have nothing to offer. To much people means to much trouble. Maybe if there was less of you. I already saw one of you snooping around, you have threantned me, now go away. I don't want trouble. If you or anyone try's to come in I will fire. I don't want to, but I will"
He took a step back holding his rifle aimed at the door. He saw the door fly open and fired a shot. It sprayed against the swinging door sending splinters and shards flying. He fired again, putting the barrel down to eject the shells. "I warned you," he said placing two more shells in the gun, "I will hurt you."
He was not letting them in now, he would kill them before they set foot in his property. Because of the one man who kicked down the door, these people would suffer. They could have came to an agreement, he could have offered them to stay in the barn, maybe let the girl and the wounded one in. But now they would get nothing.
he heard the man say they would take this place by force. "S..s..stay back," Leonradd stammered, "d..don't come in." He swallowed a lump in his throat. He wasn't a fighter, he didn't want to do this.
"Just don't hurt me, you can come in. But you can't take anything. I don't have medical supplies, I can't help your friend. I'm a butcher, a farm hand, not a doctor. Don't touch anything, you can stay in the living room. There's a fire place."
The dark allowed Dale to be sneakier than he normally could manage, which was still quite sneaky. Although he wasn't able to really figure out how to drive a car, he somehow managed to get a moped working in a small town near Blue Ridge. After the chaos at the cabins, he was left behind with Skylar, which he didn't blame anybody for, but ended up getting split up from her as they hustled through the woods to try to escape. Unfortunately, he wasn't ever able to pick up her tracks, but eventually he had picked up 'somebody's' tracks. Luckily for him it was Mia, Nate, and Jake's trail that he had picked up on. These people he felt he could trust.
He managed to catch up to them to the point their camp was still warm, but realized an additional member had joined them, and somebody had been injured, which made him hesitant. Still, Dale needed to rejoin with somebody again, and he felt they were his best choices. Whatever had happened to his father was beyond him, but he figured he'd run across him again someday, or at least he had hoped he would. He parked the little classic model moped about half a quarter mile away from the crew as he heard their engine stop, now being close enough to really know he was just behind them, as he had been following the noise of their vehicle, and with his hearing that mean they were pretty fuckin' close. He spotted motion at the nearby farmhouse, and further moved in to get a better view. He spotted the three he had come to find, and hid behind the fence nearby to further watch the events unfold.
He could hear the timid voice of the farm hand, and wondered how he was even alive in this wasteland with that kind of personality. Dale watched as the new addition to the party trampled down the door after the other three had attempted to make vocal peace with the stranger. It was effective as the man was obviously alone, but this being the first action Dale saw the man perform so far, and it being relatively hostile, he wanted to play it safe. He pulled his equipment closer to his body, and like a silent dart, hid under the truck.

As Jake was slowly losing his patience, Kelly rejoined them. “What are you doing here?” Jake asked as he rolled his eyes. “This wasn’t the plan.” He added. Jake made sure to whisper both those sentences, since he didn’t want the guy inside to hear it.
Just then Kelly did something very stupid, instead of waiting he kicked open the door. Jake was startled, but the anger got the upper hand. He watched how Kelly tried to go in but nearly got shot, he rushed back and pulled Mia with him, that way they didn’t get hit by splinters and other stuff flying around, from the shots. Just then Kelly started talking to the guy inside as he finished talking, Jake lost it. “Have you lost your fucking mind!” he said as he rushed foreward towards Kelly. He grabbed Kelly his collar and pulled him back and pushed him against the wall. “This is not how we do things, Yes I want Nate safe too, that’s the only thing that counts now, but not by doing this!” He yelled angry. Jake couldn’t control the anger and smashed the wall with his fist. “Now keep calm, and be glad it wasn’t you face, but the wall!” he yelled.
Jake tried to calm himself, he took a deep breath and walked closer, he didn’t step inside yet, but listened as the guy spoke. He asked to stay back and to not come inside. “Yeah, I know this looks bad, but we are all just worried about our friend, that is why my other friend just lost it.” Jake said. “So I’m sorry about the door, but I swear we don’t mean to hurt you.” he added.
IT seemed the guy already made up his mind before Jake talked, he could hear the fellah was scared. He told Jake, they could come in, but that he didn’t had any supplies and that he wasn’t a doctor, he offered them to stay in the living room by the fireplace. Jake finally showed himself and could see how scared the guy was. “Thank you.” He said softly. “I’m going to get my friend inside first.” He added before walking back to Mia. “I’m going to get Nate, Kelly help me get him.” Jake said stern as he started to walk back to the car.
Everything went to shit in two seconds flat, thanks to Kelly. Mia stared as the big man kicked in the door. Jake yelled and grabbed Mia. She felt pieces of wood fly by her from the gun shot. She glared at Kelly," Jake, he's fucking nuts!" Mia looked at Nate, and realized they were running out of options. She heard Jay try to reason with the man and apologize to the man inside.
She glanced at Emre, and dropped her voice," cover Jake and shoot if you have to." She had to get Nate inside.
Jake came back towards the truck. The man was gonna let them in. She crawled in the back of the truck and helped to get Nate out," jake, I don't trust this, he's just letting us in. Why?"
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
