Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
Jacob was born in Savannah, Georgia, where he grew up as a lonely child to caring mother and father. Because his parents had already been married to someone else before they got together, Jacob had three older siblings, two on his father`s side and one on his mother`s. He was born out of wedlock, though it didn`t bother him. From time to time he would spend time with his siblings, growing attached. When his parents moved newly wed to Atlanta, he lost contact with them and his father began to push him into the business. Instead of showing interest in the company he owned, Jacob strayed and chose to follow his own career path.
School and College became a big part of that; he wanted to be a writer, a famous bookseller, which eventually turned him into becoming a journalist for the local newspaper once he graduated. Jacob was credited for his passion and his drive in getting good cases to write about, he became recognized by the local community and he thrived doing what he loved. Much like his parents, he too fell in love, married and divorced, which he repeated three times over. Three children were born to him, but only split between two different mothers.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
Following up on leads he was given, Jacob researched what was happening when the virus began to spread. He was one of the first to figure it out, and though he warned everyone about it, he weren`t allowed to publish it due to national security. It frustrated him to the point he quit his job, and before anyone else, he prepared to leave the city. He went to get his children, but their mothers refused to listen. Thus he stayed, until the situation grew worse and only then did they agree to come with him.
Fleeing the city, he witnessed the death of friends, his one ex-wife and his youngest son. He tried to save them, but it was all for naught. With the rest of those he had gathered, they succeeded in getting out of town, only to be transported to Fort Benning by the National Guard.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
Under the protection of the military they stayed at Fort Benning, it didn`t last long before it too was overrun and in the chaos, the rest of his family died. Only he and a few others got away, just barely. After that he traveled from place to place, until he decided to move down south to Savannah, his hometown, where he hoped to find a boat and maybe settle on some sheltered island nearby.
