Age: 25
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Cal stands at about 6’1 180 pounds. His body is cut and lean, what one would expect from a guy who probably would’ve been one hell of a boxer if his life had turned out differently. His build portrays his recognizable baby face which often leaves clueless to how old he actually is. The complete inability to grow facial hair does not help that issue.
He is usually seen wearing an army jacket he found with a pair of blue jeans. You would see the scars on his back if they weren’t covered by a full back tattoo of a grim reaper. Truth be told other than an impressive physique looking at Cal straight on he looks like a pretty normal guy.

-Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
- Life wasn’t easy for Calvin. It seemed he was dealt a bad hand from the very beginning. An abusive father who wasn’t good for anything and a mother who saw no way out dictated the beginning of his life. Calvin had twin sister a couples years younger than him and much of his early years were spent trying to shield them from his father’s wrath. A healthy home life was something he simply didn’t know and by the time he turned 13 he was already making connections with the wrong kinds of people.
His dad had started training Calvin how to box from early age. After Calvin kept getting in fights at school his dad had figured why not start training him and see where it took him. Calvin was a natural at it and his dad had money signs in his eyes. Whenever Calvin performed poorly the normal regiment of abuse only got worse.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that a man like his father had trouble holding down a job. This put tremendous financial pressures on the family and eventually Calvin got tired of him and his sisters going hungry. Many of his friends had gotten tied up into different kinds of petty crime and Calvin saw how much money they made even off of that. Eventually through different twists and turns Calvin ended up making runs and dealing drugs for a well-known crook named Dez.
Calvin’s physical fitness mixed with his intellect and tons of pent up anger saw him quickly rise up the ranks. Calvin dropped out of High School by the time he was 17 and despite his age became one of Dez’s main guys. The guys he ran with became like family despite how twisted a lot of them were. Calvin would do anything to protect them and he often had to. It was no longer about providing for his family it was about the community and the status. People knew his face and knew what he did, and he liked it. He became addicted to the power.
At the age of 19 Calvin got pinned with possession. He served three years and began to realize the levity of the life he had chosen. His mom finally sought out help and left his father not wanting her girls to end up like their brother or worse like her. At first they would visit but over time it got to be too much and they just stopped. As hardened as he was he saw things in prison that he never left him, he saw the desperation of men who were never going to leave.
When he got out at 22 he vowed a changed life and he remained strong at first. But eventually the pressure and lack of support got to him. He started rolling with some old friends he had and bad luck saw him get caught with a fire arm. Just like that he was headed right back to prison.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
- Calvin had been back in prison for two days before the outbreak occurred. Word reached them slow as the number CO’s steadily diminished. Eventually a few of them shared what was happening but the inmates were skeptical. One of the CO’s came in infected and in denial. During yard time the disease got him and there was no longer doubt. Chaos ensued and a few inmates were bitten before the CO could be put down. Calvin put one of them out of his misery at his request. This was the first man Calvin had actually directly killed.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse: For a while some purpose-driven officers kept the inmates locked up, after all they were dangerous. Soon enough though they went to spend what time they had left fighting for survival with their families. Mob rule soon took over at the prison and a rule of kill or be killed quickly was put in place. Calvin despite all the stuff he’d done, people he had stolen from, people he had almost killed, had never been a killer. But he wanted to survive, so he did what he had to.
As people died though they didn’t die forever. The prison may have kept new people from entering but it didn’t stop the danger within its walls. Calvin was part of a group that found a way outside the walls and didn’t look back. That initial group agreed it was best to part ways, they knew too much about what each other had done to ever have real trust.
Since then Calvin’s life has been all about surviving. He’s hooked up with survivors here and there but never anything too permanent. He knows that’s if he looks out for himself he is less likely to hurt or be hurt. He’s made his way to Tennessee continuing doing what he’s had to do his whole life, just keep surviving.
