Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
Originally a teenage runaway, Yoon-Jeong originally came from a upper-middle class Korean-American family in Washington DC. At just seventeen Yoon-Jeong fell in love and started an internet relationship with an older man in Texas, which horrified her parents.
After ‘dating’ thirty-one year old Brett for almost a year, she told her parents she wanted to go to Texas to meet him, but they forbid her and demanded she break off all contact with the man. Heart-broken Yoon-Jeong decided she would run away to be with him and stole the contents of her father’s wallet to buy a bus ticket to Texas…
Although Brett had always changed the subject whenever she asked specifics about his home, Yoon-Jeong was a clever girl and managed to figure out the office branch where he worked in the small town. However Brett was less than happy to see her; when he arrived at the reception desk he was terrified and furious to see Yoon-Jeong there and asked security to take her out of the building, pretending he didn’t know her. One of Brett’s co-workers called his wife and even before Yoon-Jeong could get over the shock of what had happened she was confronted out in the parking lot by the other woman. When his wife had discovered one Yoon-Jeong’s emails months earlier, Brett had convinced her the girl was a deluded stalker and with one child between them and another one the way, she had been willing to believe him.
Threatening to call the police, she drove Yoon-Jeong away after trying to hit her with their car and the girl fled in tears, frightened and full of confusion…
Afraid to stay in the town, believing that Brett’s wife had called the police, Yoon-Jeong panicked and jumped on the first bus she could find which took her to New Orleans…
Wandering the streets of the Big Easy, Yoon-Jeong didn’t know whether to try and contact Brett again or crawl home, humiliated and scorned. While sleeping in the bus shelter she encountered a girl her same age who called herself ‘Kitty’ and she promised a warm bed, hot shower and good meal back at ‘her place’. Yoon-Jeong followed eagerly, unaware that Kitty was one of the girls in the stable of a local pimp called Aubrey.
The shrewd man was quick to take advantage of the ‘new stock’ that had wandered into his house. Playing the part of a ‘finesse pimp’ he acted the sympathetic and consoling man as he listened to young Yoon-Jeong talk about everything that had happened with Brett, how afraid she was of what her parents would think and everything in between. His shoulder to cry on came with spiked drinks and once he had the teenager addled he convinced her to stay with them for a while. Of course his kindness did not come free: within a month he demanded she repay his hospitality by ‘entertaining’ clients and beat her when she showed reluctance. He promised her he could find her family if she ran from him and they would suffer for her disobedience…
The months and then years bled together as Yoon-Jeong soon forgot the sound of her real name, answering to ‘Angel’ now and she existed in a world of perpetual night, sleeping all day and struggling to remember the faces of countless men at night…
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
In a city like the Big Easy, things went very bad very quickly. One night an apparently drug-fuelled client attacked one of his girls, scratching and biting her viciously, even turning on the bouncers when they dragged him out the back of the brothel and put a bullet in his head. It was one of the more violent incidents they had seen since Aubrey had hired on extra security, but not uncommon...
The following morning however the streets were in chaos as people fled and what appeared to be crazed, bloody mobs ripped people apart right outside their front door.
Dupoix barricaded the building, letting no one out and shooting anyone who tried to get in. But the victim of the attack the night before, Tiffany, began to become ill and his girls became frightened.
When Tiffany turned she savaged one of the other workers, Stella, before Aubrey shot her between the eyes in front of the others. Stella lay bleeding out, begging for her life, but her pimp showed no mercy and treated her with the same ruthlessness. Whatever was going on was contagious, he announced and they were getting the hell out of the city.
Dividing his remaining four girls and two bouncers into separate vehicles, they packed what supplies from the brothel they could carry and fled the area. They did not stop until they were nearly out of Louisiana…
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
Aubrey Dupoix may have lost his brothel, but he was a resourceful man and he found a use for the ‘oldest profession in the world’ even among the desperate survivors who now roamed the apocalypse.
In their early days the small group survived by luring survivors into their encampments with the promise of sex for goods and then stripping them bare of supplies or vehicles. They encountered a particularly advantageous win fall when they came across a motorhome which had been overrun at a camp, the occupants dead. Aubrey immediately took claim of the camper and had his girls clean it up, converting it into a mobile brothel with whatever trappings they had left from their business.
With a larger mode of transport and base of operations, Dupoix reinforced order and began to run the group like a pimp again, setting in place new rules for transactions and quotas based on essential supplies. Targeting large camps, settlements and army bases, Dupoix drove them from one state to the next and began to make a comfortable trade business built on the back of his girls.
A cut throat sense of competition was bred among his surviving girls; whoever traded for the most useful supplies was given first choice of food, clothing or small luxuries. Angel was not as aggressive as her fellow girls and soon found herself at the bottom of the small hierarchy, often given cooking or cleaning duties unanimously. She did not engage in robbery, like some of the others and when the RV stopped at camps she would try to make herself as inconspicuous as possible to avoid anyone asking for her services…
In the year they have traveled the group have lost both of their security men; one was shot early on raiding a camp and the other was bitten while on watch last autumn. The lack of muscle has made Aubrey paranoid and he has become more wary of customers, arming himself at all times and even instructing his girls to kill anyone who displays suspicious behaviour.
Less than two months ago, Kitty, who had been the closest thing to a friend for Angel, hung herself in a tree outside the RV when they made camp. Although she had left a note willing all her clothes and meager items to Angel, the bottom lady Krystal demanded first pick of her belongings and left very little to Angel…
She survives a day at a time, living between the visits in silence and keeps to herself without complaint. She has become morose since the loss of Kitty, but Angel sees no other alternative to her existence; she knows she could not survive without Aubrey on her own and so she waits for her inevitable death, wondering if it will be at the hand of the Dead or the living…
