Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
Jo was born in Hawaii. She lived in a beautiful place called Niʻihau and attended school with lots of other kids. She was raised by a single father, her mother divorced her father when she was very young and moved away from the island. Jo was quite popular at school. She had one best friend there. But her father was very young and an aspiring an actor, so when she turned 5 he decided to peruse his career, and move her away from all of her friends, her nice home close to the sun surf and sand and move to Hollywood. She found herself with a sitter a lot, and it seemed a lot like her father didn’t seem to care for her as much as he cared for his dreams, but Jo didn’t complain. She always tried to make the best of her situation, and she thought that her dad only really looked happy when he was excited about a new role.
She changed schools a lot, until one year when her father scored a massive paid role in Georgia, and she was finally able to stay in one place for a good three years while they filmed, and then filmed a sequel. She made friends, she had a romantic interest, a girl named Marcie, and she loved all of her teachers.
Marcie was a bad influence. She taught her to do bad things, like graffiti, like shooting bb’s at rats, like being a loudmouth and playing pranks on others. They were an unstoppable pair together. Jo never confessed. She held in the fact that she liked her for so long, and it caused her a lot of anguish. She didn’t want to be viewed as weird, and she didn’t want to potentially ruin a solid friendship.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
The apocalypse began for Jo in the principal’s office. She, Marcie and a boy called Cameron who they’d played a prank on were all sitting their in big chairs while the strict principal yapped on and on when they heard a scream from the sick bay down the hall. The Principal ran to see what the noise was and she came back pale as a sheet and in a panic.
Screaming grew loud outside too. The principal slammed the door shut and after a beat she could her thumping on the door and vicious gnawing of teeth. Guttural moans and growls emerged from everywhere. Jo was very confused, and very scared, but Cameron was worse. He began crying, and Marcie, who had a temper, told him to shut it which only made him cry harder, and suddenly all exits were blocked with zombies who could hear him. Ms Fitz, as the kids called their Principal, managed to climb safely out of the window where she helped the kids down as well. Jo remembers a lot of running, and then finding a house and hiding with another family not to far from the school.
Cameron had to be carried by the teacher because he wouldn’t move by himself. The house they were in was big, and it housed two adults, sisters called Jemima and Chloe, and a foul mouthed teenage boy called Riley. They all formed a haphazard group together, and together, they went back and raided the school.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
The group survived like that for about 6 months, holding up in a large mansion as their base. But as food started running out in the area, the group needed to travel, and Jo was determined to find her father. Cameron’s mother worked at the school and he’d seen her as a zombie and Marcie absolutely despised her parents, but Jo knew her had must be alive. He was very strong. The plan was to head for a settlement that was forming slowly in North Carolina called the Farm. Things were looking up, but then again, the group had no system, no defined leader, and it was bound to fall apart some time or other.
Riley was the first to die. He was arrogant, and prideful and it had gotten the best of him. He’d decided to scavenge by himself, and he’d never come back. Little did they know Cameron had followed him as well. The kid looked up to him or something. They sent out a search party but neither of them were anywhere to be found.
Chole was grieving after losing her only son. Unable to accept the fact that he was gone she wanted to keep moving, to keep searching for him. After another couple of mounts, she and her sister stole their car, and left.
Marcie was definitely the strongest of them all. Jo swore she was even stronger than Ms. Fitz sometimes. Jo found herself leaning on her more often that not. She aspired to be like her. Ms Fitz still hadn’t recovered from losing Cameron. She was assured that she was a failure as an educator. But she held it together, and the three of them set off to find a new group where they would be safe.
They survived together for the next year and a half, eventually making it to North Carolina where Marcie’s journey ended. Their principal had come down very ill, and She and Marcie were having to do a lot more. It was no one’s fault, what happened to Marcie, Ms. Fitz had assured her of that. The two of them were enjoying a moment of childish bliss upon finding a dress up box in a house. They hadn’t checked the house properly, and they were making too much noise. The Zombie didn’t manage to kill either of them, but it bit Marcie. Her eventual death was devastating for the girl. But Marcie said she would “haunt her sweet ass” if she ever gave up.
Now though she is alone, and Ms Fitz will soon be too sick to move. She will need a lot of luck and a lot of strength to survive now.
