Appearance:
Karin is of average height (5’7”), thin and definitely more creepy than pretty. Her build isn’t anything menacing: Lethe, flexible with wiry muscles from her years of survival. She doesn’t look like she’s at a healthy weight, and in absence of a shirt her ribs protrude from the confines of her skin, which is a lighter olive colour. She has a fairly long oval shaped face, plump pink lips with a very slight gap between her two front teeth. Her nose is on an average size and is pointed downwards. Her eyes are slanted, but quite large and owlish. Her face is very expressive, and her smirk, which is her default, is like something out of a ghost movie. She has a very intense stare that is very difficult to avert your eyes from. Her hair is long, mostly straight but always seems to have a kink or two. Her fringe hides her forehead and the rest of her thick black hair falls down to the top of her bust.

Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
Karin grew up in a city called Kobe in Japan. She was an only child two a middle class married couple. They were like a million other familys in japan. Her mother was a housewife, who taught her daughter how to cook. Her father was a business man whom she very rarely saw. And she grew up respecting her elders and competing with her cohort for the best GPA in school. Her parents pushed and pushed at her to get the top marks, to do their family proud. She didn’t have many friends, because she simply did not have time. But Karin always knew she was going to be a black sheep. She hated society, she hated fitting in, and she hated scores and tests and grade point avarages. She hated her fathers job, she hated the idea of marriage. There was no outlet for her, until she got her first camera.
The arts were not valued in her school or home. She used to sketch at cram school, which she did not need but attended anyway. But one day she didn’t go, and ambled about the city instead. She met a fourigner, and photographer, called Lance. After meeting him, and following him around until he finally let her take a picture or two, she had found her outlet.
She was going to wait until she finished school, but pressure built so high that when she was 17, she snapped. She quit school, and worked full time, living in her new "friend" Lance’s apartment, whom she was sleeping with. Naively she thought he was her boyfriend. He was 26 years old (9 years her senior), and was simply messing about with her, of course he was. Why didn’t she see that? Because he was a convenient place for her to stay to get out from under her furious parent’s roof.
Of course Lance was leaving back for his home in the UK in a mounts time, so she didn’t have long to prepair for a life on her own. She over worked herself, trying to save up money. She wanted to travel to England with her cool photographer “Boyfriend” but at the end of that month he up and left her.
This hurt, but she got over it. She moved into a sharehouse where utilities and rent were cheap where she worked until she was 18 years old. She had managed to buy a film camera in that time and was filming short experimental videos and building herself a little network. Eventually she moved to Shinyuri where she could attend Japan’s only good film collage (See occupation/studies above). The art she made was all about the oppressive nature of Japanese society, and tended to be extremely political/taboo. (She was almost kicked out several times). Eventually she managed to get herself on an exchange to NYC’s film school in the third year of her course which was an incredible rush. She was there for 4 months when all hell broke loose…
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
Her life in America was English tutor, work, sleep or collage in a constant cycle. She was a Kitchen hand at a Japanese restaurant and that was where she happened to be when the dead started walking. She had built up a fairly decent relationship with her co-workers, and she planned to invite them out for drinks that evening. It was the first time in a very long time that she had a ‘crowd’ so to speak, of people she actually liked. People who weren't just kept around for networking purposes, and/or career prospects. So of course she had the wonderful task of chopping most of their heads and/or limbs off with a meat cleaver when shit hit the fan. It’s safe to say that mini massacre fucked her up a bit. The infection has started in her restaurant because a waitress (Yvette Yang, a sweet girl with a very self-sacrificing personality, damn her.), decided to work even though she was feeling ill (Something about having a disabled little brother to look after, double damn her).
Anyway, there was moaning and screaming, and Karin, the head chef Bert and her co-worker Seven were forced to battle their way out of the store. It was like something out of a movie! Only it was real.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
Karin thought that Seven wouldn’t last long. He was a coward, and a liability but Karin tried her best to protect him. This was partly because he was a friend and partly because she knew that she needed Bert who was much older, much stronger and much more capable than her. He was a very compassionate man with kids of his own. He wasn’t going to like her if she tried to cut Seven loose, or if she left him to die. He needed to have a good impression of her, otherwise she was sure she’d loose him. Besides, she respected and liked Bert. He was that guy who hired the untrained girl with the visa even though he could have chosen several other more qualified interviewee.
The incident occurred a couple of months of looking stores and surviving in NYC, which was an awful place to be due to the overwhelming turned population, but a great place to be in terms of recourses. Karin finally caught Seven doing something unforgivable- he was trying to betray them. A group Bert didn’t trust had put him up to making off with all their supplies and joining them. Karin had caught him and crippled him before Bert had come to witness the scene. The two of them were very close, Seven had been working with Bert for a good year longer than Karin had, and all Seven had to do was tell Bert she was crazy, and frame her for his crimes. Bert had believed him, and had lost all trust for her. To be fair, she did have a rather unhinged look on her face at the time. With a heavy heart, he gave her his gun, some of his supplies, and had told her to fend for herself, or find another group, because she wasn’t welcome with them anymore.
This betrayal cemented her heart, and she survived on her own mostly after that – Partnering up with people for convenience here and there – but ultimately she didn’t want a permanent group. And that is how she lived, up until this point. How long will it last?
