Amber pulled the truck past the stone entry way surrounding all the graves. She then pulled into the front and put the truck in park. She wasn't going to honk or anything, the truck was loud enough. She turned the engine off and opened the door.
stepping down she grabbed her rifel and looked at Becky. "This is the place. Looks condemned. Doors boarded up. You stay here, Inola and I will go around then back."
she waited for the "war paint" covered girl and moved aroud the cathedral to the back. The windows were covered, so she couldn't even see in. As she got around back the metal gate was locked. If someone didn't come and get them she would have to alert their precense. For all she knew this wasn't even the right church.
When the truck stopped, Inola popped up and surveyed the area around them. Quiet. One hand pressed to the cab of the truck, she gracefully leaped out, doe-skin moccasins barely making a sound if they even did at all. The rifle was swung to her back, and she notched an arrow to her bow which would make much less noise if needed.
Following Amber, Inola's dark eyes swiveled toward each noise. Studying the fence and the windows, she leaned her bow against the wall, removed a knife from the sheath at her belt, and began to pry one piece of wood loose from the closest window.
Bethany quickly perked up when she saw the car arrive. She had seen it in the distance and paid attention, although laying low in the steeple. She didn't want them to see a figure against the horizon. She kept down, but kept the gun up in case of any trouble. However, it alarmed her that people were getting closer and she whistled out loudly when they were driving down the cemetery road.
"Thad! We have company!"
Instead of going down to help with the intruders, when she felt it safe enough, she stood up and watched two women get out and start to survey the building. She kept her gun trained on the first one that got out of the car first, following her as she went around the back of the Cathedral. She would watch and wait, but not fire unless told to fire upon the sudden intruders. Maybe, oddly enough, these were the people Thad had been waiting for? She would be more surprised and shocked than anything else if that were the case. She knew once a group was split up, that would be the end of the group...at least, she thought that was the case most of the time.

Thad heard Bethany call down and jumped up. He looked around. Garret was back with his men, but Riley was still out on his. It could have easily been them, but somehow something was different. They would have pulled into the back, immediatpy disregarded as company. This was someone else, raiders perhaps. They hadn't dealt with any yet, but it was only a matter of time before they had to.
"I'll check it out. Keep the gun on me incase there is trouble," Thad said grabbing his weapon. He put in a fresh clip and put the strap over his arm. "Garret keep everyone calm and quiet. If something happen you and Jack are the first ones out." The other man nodded and Thad left out the back doors.
Unlocking the back gate and stepping out he moved along the church. When he spotted two women he aimed his gun. "Don't shoot," he shouted, "step away from the window."
As he stepped closer to them he got a good look at the one. His gun fell from his hand and he rushed forward, taking her in a big hug. "Amber fucking Christ. It's you. I heard your voice on the radio, but I didn't think you would get here that soon." He released her, "where's Becky, she was with you." He smiled, "the gate's open. You are free to go in. We can discuss everything inside."

Amber saw Thad approach and recognized him inmediatly. She was ahead of Inola unable to see the girl try and break in. When Thad shouted to stop she spun around. "Don't do that. We don't need to break in. We have permission to enter, right Thad?" Before she got an answer Thad scooped her up in his arms in a friendly hug.
When she was put down Thad spoke and she listened. When he was done she answered. "Good to see you in one piece soldier. Garret and Darrius are okay as well I hope," she said with a smile, "Becky is in the truck. Didn't want to risks her if this place wasn't you."
She followed Thad insde, goong Inola would follow. Once there she looked at all the people. "When can we leave. How long will it take you to pack up. The transport truck is still three quarters full. We could leave now if you are ready. What vehicles are you taking back, we could use the vehicle you came here in, it was good for runs. Besides that it should all fit in the one we brought. Maybe one other one, it would just become scrap for our wall."
She stepped around, "I'm surprised you were able to keep this palce secure. I guess with the stone fences it was safer, still the gates were open. I missed you Thad, you don't know how bad we need soldiers now. People on watch, I didn't think we'd make it through the night."
Bethany kept a trained eye on both women, but it seemed that Thad knew them. The friendly exchange made her lower her guard and lower her gun. A few moments later, someone else came to the tower and relieved her from her watch. Instead of them relieving her though, they spoke with a hasty voice.
"Come on down and pack up your stuff. We're shipping out."
Just as she had gotten used to the feel of the landscape after the long walk and talk with Thad, they were already headed out. He warned her it may happen and she didn't believe him. She didn't feel bad for that though. In all honesty, it was such a slim chance they would come back that realistically, her thinking was right on track. She climbed down from the tower and went back inside where people were happily starting to pack things up and prepare to head out on the transport truck. She heard the woman speaking about cars and one becoming scrap for their wall.
"My car isn't getting scrapped. I'm taking it with me." But was she going with them? That was to be determined.
Inola jumped as a new voice entered clearly, and she sheathed her blade, silently striding forward. She watched the two as they reunited and smiled to herself. It must be nice to have friends. When she was allowed entrance, Inola swiftly trotted inside, looking everywhere for the two people she hoped against hope were here in the group: her parents.
Everyone was hurriedly packing, and she purposely strode to one girl who seemed to be in charge. "Excuse me, but do you have two Native Americans in your group here? I'm looking for my parents...I was hoping they'd be in your group." She trailed off at the end of her sentence as her eyes scanned the area once more. No one looked familiar.

Thaddeus looked at the girls as they moved around. Everyone was packing up, getting ready to leave. That was good, they needed to leave right away and head out so they could return. It would mean travelling all night. He hoped the roads were safe.
Thad looked at Bethany. "They won't destroy your car, I'm sure you can keep it. If we take that and the transport there will be lots of room. We are still one car short though, and the three people with it. They are still out on a run, should be back by now, but aren't."
He looked at them, "Riley is leading them, him and two civillians. They went to the mall and I fear something may have happened. Before it gets dark, I'd like to rescue them. Once they are back we are free to leave. As we get them, everyone else can pack the trucks. If Bethany, I, and the girl that came with you Amber go get these people, you can pack the trucks and get everyone organized."

"How far out are they," Amber asked, Turing to Thad. She really didn't want to leave them, but would if she had to. "What danger would they be in?"
"They are at a mall, it's close by, a ten minute walk through the alley ways," Thad answered, "I don't know what they ran in to, could be raiders, sinners, or even an injury. All I know is that we are not leaving them behind. Riley, he's a brother, one of the reason you are here."
"We may have to Thad. The missions comes first. You know that. The lives of three men do not come before the lives of everyone else. It's to many people to risk. If something were to happen than the whole missions is a fuck up," Amber spat, "I don't want to, but if there is trouble, it could lead to you and who evere else you take going down. That would be five or so people gone, it would be best to just pack up and leave."
"No Amber, we are not leaving them. These people, they're family now, same way Becky, Louis, Sam, and Arthur are. I would risk it all for them, again and again. We are't endangering anyone. This place is secrue. It would take just as long to pack every thing up. While you do that I could get in, grab them, and get out. We need to do this Amber."
"Fine, but I don't want you risking the lives of anyone that doesn't want to rescue these men," Ambee said sternly, "it Bethany, and Inola don't want to go then they don't have to. Safety is in numbers, but I don't want to force anyone." She turned to the girls, "what do you say, will you go? I know Becky will be willing, you don't have to."
Thad spoke about some rescue mission. She had nothing to pack up, so all she really needed was to bring herself. All of her own stuff was in her car from the day before already. She heard Inola talking to someone about finding her parents and she shook her head, looking at the girl.
"Good luck finding anyone you may have known. It's like a needle in a haystack."
Thad and the Amber woman were going on about going and rescuing others and she tended to agree with Amber. He was taking a huge risk to find people that couldn't make their way back. Why did they go off in the first place? She closed her eyes for a moment and sighed. She had come down to being a rescue party now.
"Fine, I'll help, but first sign of a horde or another larger group with bigger weapons and I'm out of there. As the rest of you should be also."
Inola nodded to the girl and then turned to look around. Her dark brown eyes darted amongst all the people, but no one looked familiar until...she caught sight of a long, black braid, and she dashed forward, her hand outstretched to grasp the woman's shoulder. Except, when the woman turned around, Inola was faced with a stranger. The woman was Indian, but not her kind of indian. "Sorry," she stuttered and backed away.
Deciding that looking was fruitless in such a swarm, she decided it was best just to help. Bending down, she helped fold a blanket and stuff several backpacks. She wanted to get out of here and back to safety as soon as possible. What she really didn't want was for a horde to come and trap them here again. They needed to move and quickly.

Thad looked at Bethany. If the girl didn't want to help then she didn't have to, but she couldn't just stay and do nothing. If she wated to leave he would let her, nothing was stopping her. His people were out there, getting supplies as they had done every day, in and out, it was supposed to be like any other, a delay was a random event.
"I understand we should be leaving, but these people are needed. Cory, Darius, and Dane were out on a supply run as I gave members tasks everyday. I can't help that they got delayed. They could be on way back now, or they could be in trouble. Either way it will take enough time to pack up the transport truck that we could wait a few moments wothout harm."
He looked at Bethany, "thankyou for your help. How much fuel does your car have. We will drive the route they would go, a five minute drive from here. It's a two story open mall east in the city. They had gone before."
He grabbed his vest and rifel from the table. "Garret, Amber, you two need to organize everyone and get the trucks loaded. If there is a horde then you head out without us. Wait for us at the edge of town. Garret knows the meeting place for when things go bad. We won't be long."
He started to walk, hoping Bethany would follow him. Once at her car he stopped. "You drive. I'll direct."

Amber waited until Thad left before she turned to Garret. "Give me the run down. How many people are we talking, how much supplies," she asked the man, "a rough number will do."
Garret cleared his throat, "at least a dozen people, maybe more. As for supplies we have some tables and cots. All the food is already stored in buckets and totes. A generator. Maybe six rifels, including the one Thad took. A handgun a piece, but everyone should have it on them. Two water jugs, minimal but both are decently full. Some propane tanks and an industrial size grill. That grill will be a pain in the ass to move. Don't know how we are going to lift it."
Amber nodded. "Let's get it packed up. Load the supplies, water, anything small first. Leave the cots, we have plenty. As for the grill we may have to leave it. The farm may not even have enough room. Make sure everyone can still fit in the truck as well, that's the mission not the gear." She looked at all the people gathered aroud. Most were young, college kids. There were two guys, the most fit out of all of them. "You two what's your names?"
"John and Joseph," the one kid said, "I'm John, he's Joseph."
"I need you two to help manage loading the truck. Maybe have one inside storing, the other passing everything to him. That work for you?"
"Yes mam," John responded, "we'll get on it."
Amber looked for another face to give a task. There was a slender, taller, black man and a punk looking girl, bright red hair. "You two are on watch. The truck is out front so those doors will need to be open. One on either side of the truck, guns out and ready."
The two nodded and went off. Amber went over to Inola. "I'm sorry about your family. I hoped they would be here. You need a moment? Or can you help organize the food?"
Two older women were hunched over the supplies, putting cans and boxes into the totes. One had a big smile and the other looked like she hadn't slept in days. "They could use some help," Amber said, "can you handle that?"
Bethany thought this was a bad idea, but she would go with him. Thad seemed to be a good leader and she appreciated his authoritative tone. She made sure she had her gun locked and loaded as they moved to her car.
"I have half a tank. We should be able to make it in and out." She shoved the keys into the ignition and started the car right up. She was always worried about it dying on her while on the road. Without mechanics and shops, cars were just as vulnerable as people. She knew the day would come, it was just a matter of 'when'. He described the mall and she happened to remembering seeing it. Strip malls were a dime a dozen, but this one was distinct. There were broken signs and white wooden railings that were fading from weather. Since no one was alive to take care of buildings anymore, everything had taken a dingy tone.
She drove up the road and slowed when they came to shopping plaza she thought he may have been talking about. It was the closest one in the middle of nowhere and seemed like the logical choice.
"Is this the place? What are they looking for here?"
