Bethany looked over her shoulder at him with a grin on her face. Was he that naive? His innocence was sweet, although she wondered if he was baiting her a little bit.
"It was just a joke Thad. Like, we have been gone a while, alone...people may talk..."
She wondered if he would get it that way but if he pressed her further, she would just dismiss it. She got back closer to the Cathedral and stopped, turning around to look at him. He certainly was a tall drink of water and she figured his girlfriend, wherever she may be at this farm, was a lucky woman.
"Thanks for letting me stay here. I'm not here to cause any trouble. It's just hard out there, on your own, you know? I can help here, or at this farm, or wherever."
She felt a little awkward saying all this as she shifted her weight from one leg to the other, looking down at the ground.
"I can take a lookout position if you want for the day. It's up to you. Maybe I'll be more useful on the roof."

"oh alright," Thad said looking at her, "though I'm sure they wouldn't say anything. I mean we just met, and with Becky. They most likely think you just left or they won't even notice we were gone. With three teams out there they aren't counting numbers." He spoked in a serious tone, "so people probably won't talk, at least not about this." He then looked at her and smiled, "I'm kidding, I got the joke."
He wlaked with her back, his gun now down at the side. She thanked him and he nodded. "You're welcome. I know it's tough. As long as you pull your weight you should be fine. I don't plan on staying long here, but we can make the best of it while we are here."
He looks at the tower, "and sure you can go up. There's binoculars up there, and a rifle maybe. Keep look out, don't fire. Best to just stay low and yell down if you see something."
Bethany nodded to Thaddeus as he gave her permission to get up to the lookout point on top of the church. She would relieve whoever was up there so they could get some rest. She had her fair share, and then some, of sleep, so she could go a nice long time just watching and waiting.
"Alright, thanks. It's nice to be able to contribute."
Once inside, she looked around, grabbed a rifle and made her way up the stairs to the top where the tower had a nice, sprawling look over the area. There were houses, other churches, a few strip malls and plenty of greenery to go around in this area. She was handed the binoculars and she kicked back, taking a good long look at the surroundings.

Thaddeus watched her leave to the tower, and climb up it. When Memphis came down he looked at the man. "Get some rest. If Amber was correct she will be here soon. Any hour now."
The other man looked at him. "I still think you're a fool Thad. They ain't coming. They put it off four weeks, four weeks when it could have been days. They gave up on you, on this church. For all we know they died these last three weeks and they ain't saving our ass. I don't want to be a downer, but with that chicks car we have enough room. We could leave on our own. Load up the truck and the buggy and leave tomorrow.
"No they are coming," Thaddeus said, "you don't know them. They wouldn't abandon Riley, Garret, or Myself. They will here."
"What ever you say man. I'm getting some rest," Mephis said walking to one of the makeshift beds.
That walked to the wall and leane against it. People were loosing hope, he was.
