Remy's eyes moved to Randall, who had taken to sitting on the couch in front of the fire. He was leaned back with his head propped up against the back of the couch and his eyes were closed. He was relaxing into the couch, if not already asleep from the long day. Instead of waking him up with another discussion about where she was going to go, she slipped off the bed and moved to the door, closing it quietly and gently. She felt he was safe enough out there with the door locked and the windows blocked. If anything were going to try and get in, they would have plenty of notice with it trying to get in. She just hoped the rest of the Settlement decided to go back home and not come looking for the rest of them. It was harder to find someone who didn't want to be found.
She leaned against the door for a minute as she listened and absorbed the words he said. His tone indicated that he didn't want to go back across the country and honestly, she really had no idea what he wanted. He followed her, twice, so there had to be something that drove him to continue to come after her. Before he was driven by self-preservation and the group mentality, but could he still boast the same for why he did what he did? She let her gaze lower to the floor as she spoke.
"I don't have any place else to be. Do you?"
She knew that answer before he could even say it. But Bear Lake was not an option for her and she was pretty sure he knew that by now. She kept running away. Instead, she came closer to him aside the bed. There was a reason he was here and she knew it. One of her hands reached for one of his as she looked to the book that was laying open on the bed. Her voice lowered as she spoke to him, trying to diffuse the situation.
"I can't go back to Bear Lake. If I go back, I'll end up dead."
She stepped in front of him now and looked up at him with a determination in her eyes.
"I'm not going there. I'm going home. You can come with me or you can stay here with the old man but I have a feeling I know who you'd rather be with. You came after me, twice. That has to mean something. I don't care about those people, Luca. I care about you."
She leaned in a little closer and this time and without even thinking about it, she pressed her lips against his. It wasn't a hard kiss, but something softer and more worthwhile. Was it meant to sway him a little more? Probably. This kiss would test the waters on what he wanted from her. She either procured a new level of their relationship or completely ruined the fragile friendship they had forged. When she broke the soft kiss she sat back on the bed and looked up at him.
"You should at least sleep on it."
She heard the motorcycle roll up outside as a faded rumble beyond the doors. The only person she could think that would have parked here was the biker that tried to lure her away after the first cabin stop. She thought he had rode off into the sunset, but clearly he was sticking around. She wasn't about to go outside and see what he wanted, certainly not after locking in for the night. She wanted to see how Luca reacted to her actions. She needed to know if it was too soon or if she had gone too far.
