Brain exited the kitchen. Seeing abby leave to go outside he moved toward the door. Max was just about to go outside when Brian stopped him. "Need to speak to you," he said pulling him into the living room. Brian looked at the man, his friend, only person he could confide in.
"I need to know you were telling the truth," he said meeting Max's eyes, "tell me you won't leave. Cause God help me Max I will stop you. Even if it killed me. I will not let you hurt this girl. She's weak, like Elle. Maybe tough enough to live through this but what you'd do would break her. We both know that. I won't let you hurt her. Abby deserves better. Don't be an asshole for once in your life. If not for the girl you knocked up then me. For yourself. You need this as much as she does. A reason to stay."

Max sighed when Brian pulled him aside. What could he say to him. Congrats on fucking up? Congrats for fucking up everyone's saftet and life? Congrats for being so fucking stupid in the world.
He looked Brian in the eyes but didn't smirk or smile. Max was serious and listened to his friend speak. When he was finished Max loked down at his friend. Was he serious? Did he really think he was that much of scum bag. He poured his heart out to Abby, said what he meant.
"Fuck Brian. I'm not going anywhere. You really think I'm that much of an asshole? I meant what I said. No matter what I'm staying. I love Abby. I know it's childish to love her after only a few weeks but I do. She's going to be carrying my child, mine. How could I not love her? Right now she's everything to me. I don't want to fuck that up."
"That's good to hear," Brian said smiling, "here I thought I was going to have to beat some sense into you. Don't go against your word Max. Be there for this child. Be there for her. I know you mean the world to her, and her you. But don't break her heart. I'll break you otherwise, well maybe not me but Charles or Amber will."
He looked down and avoided Max's eyes for what he had to say next. It was the truth, but it needed to be said. Max needed to know this, it was for his own sake. As much as he didn't want Abby heart broken he didn't want his friend either. He saw how he dealt with loss.
"Abby might not make it. This may kill her. It may kill the baby, her, or both of them. I can't gurantee everyone lives. We have limited supplies. I've never delivered a baby. They might live or die. You needed to know this, there's a chance. I'll be dammed if I let it happen but there's still a chance it might. Don't tell abby this. Don't kill her hope. If it happens I'll deal with it, but I don't want her to worry."
Sarah stared at Charlie, eyes goin wide. Was he serious? He wanted her to go with him? She shook her head," I, Charlie, I , " what should she do? Her eyes stared up at him. She would be with him, and they had always been a team before. One hand went to her throat and fingered her cross. She looked gripped his chest. If she went, he would be distracted. She knew that. For the last few weeks he had barely let her out of his sight. He arranged watches and took his so he would be able to sleep with her each night. She knew he was doing a lot of things like that, arranging things to be with her more.
" you feel you need to go?" She looked at him," I feel Abby is gonna need me here." Sarah spoke softly," you should go." She raised up and kissed him before she could change her mind about what she had said.

"I know I don't want to think about it either. If it happens I want to be there. I need to do it myself. I won't take no for an answer on that. Now I'm going to go out and see her. Try and relax Brian. Today sounds like and easy day. For now at least. I heard Amber wants a run, so we may need you yet."
Max moved outside and past Kari, who was carrying a bowl of cereal and a plate of toast. The young girls set the plate down besdie Abby, on a table so it wouldn't spill. She quickly smiled and ran back inside.
Max sat down next to Abby and smiled, "so miss me," he asked giving a smirk and squezing her knee.
From te corner of his eyes he saw Arthur push past past Amber and walk up the steps to the house. The man looked angry, as if he was about to snap.
Witching in seconds Max was on him. He pinned him against the wall, forearm over his neck. He pushed down on it and glared at the man.
"Why you covered in blood huh? Doing your little fucking experiments? Looking to have your balls chopped off and fed to you and a plate? Come on tell me asshole. Tell me your chopping up Sinner like the sick freak you are," Max yelled glaring.
"Go to hell. I don't have to say anything. You have no proof. For all you know I was making you pricks supper. Killing the next deer out people so kindly gave you," Arthur spat.
Abby saw Arthur coming towards the steps and fell silent. Her mouth gaped open. She felt sick again seeing him, but it was a different kind of sick.
She stared at the scene, it took a moment to register what the hell was happening. Arthur was experimenting! He was cutting up walkers!? Her hand flew to her stomach as she rose from the swing. "BRIAN!! CHARLIE!!!" Abby screamed, Max was raging an she wasn't sure he would listen to her. Hell, she wasn't even sure if she wanted to stop him.
"Max, please, wait," she stepped towards him and looked at Amber," you have a real fucking issue controlling your people!"

Amber watched a Arthur push past. He was heading inside, if Charles got to him before she could he would be dead, there was no second geussing it. "Georgia on me," she said walking forward with her gun.
Then Max jumped on Arthur, pinning him. She heard Abby screaming for the other men.
"Stand down Max," Amber yelled, only to fall on deaf ears, "don't do this." She raised her gun and saw Georgia do the same, "let him go."
She heard Abby say something and listened to her, "seems you have the same problem. If you have a problem with me then I want you to say it not hide behind comments. These are your people too now, everyone share the blame."
Charles heard the commotion outside. He wanted to talk to Sarah a little longer but he needed to figure out what the hell was going on. He moved towards the door and heard Max going off. He also heard something about experiments and he drew his gun. That fucking scientist must be doing exactly what he was told not to. More troubling was the thought of how he had gotten any test subjects as they had made sure that nothing was brought with them he shoved open the door and rounded the corner to see the scientists scrubs covered in blood. His gun raised up pointing at the man's head.
"What the fuck is going on out here?"
He looked to Amber and could see that she was processing a mile a minute. No doubt worried about his reaction to this. His gun remained pointed at the idiots head.
"Please tell me that you weren't conducting research because I really don't want to be forced to kill you in front of all of these people. You had better start talking because as much as I don't want to I will put a bullet between your eyes quicker then you can blink. I am not Amber, second chances are a rare occurrence with me."
Sarah followed behind Charlie, hearing Abby yelling for him. She stopped cold on the porch, as Charlie drew his gun. She saw Abby and moved over to her. Sarah heard Amber's words, 'You hold it right there, Charlie told him not to do that, to experiment, and you all agreed to that. He was under your command, and your responsibility. If he broke orders, then you should have been watching him better, you know these people far better than any of us, and therefore I am sure, you , would know whether or not to trust him." She wrapped her arm around Abby's waist, and watched the men, "If he has started experimenting, where did he get samples? We , Charlie, said you all left those." She glanced at Amber, "I don't want a division here, but there are alot of women here, and soon children as well." Sarah had not been mixed in the thick of things, but she did have eyes, and she could tell some of these women survivors were pregnant, and now Abby might be as well. "I will not have their safety risked from some man who thinks he is smart enough to play God." Sarah looked at Max, "You did the right thing, holding him, Max." She looked at Charlie, "Take care of it, I am going to take Abby inside."
Charlie listened to Sarah and his jaw almost dropped. She was talking in a way that he had only heard a couple of times and it shocked him. Normally she would have been the voice of reason in the situation but now she seemed as uncomfortable with taking risks as he was himself. He silently flipped the safety off and looked down the sights.
"Sorry Amber."
As soon as Sarah told him to take care of it he gently squeezed the trigger, sending a bullet into the man's head. He had wanted to avoid this situation but it also needed to be clear that when it came to the safety of the farm he would cut no corners. He would ensure that nothing threatened the farm, even if that threat came from within.
"He threatened the safety of this farm, and if he had been allowed to continue it would have been far to easy for him to screw up and cause people's death. I do not take that lightly. You are all family now and believe me that what just happened is not something I enjoy but I would make the same decision again. One life compared to all of your safety is an easy decision for me. I will choose the many over the individual every time."

Max saw Charles come out then Sarah. There was yelling back and forth at Amber and the pair. He saw Charles raise a gun and then hear the shot. Blood from the mans head covered his chest and arms. Stepping back he let the body hit the floor.
From his hand Max dropped a knife. It clattered to the ground. He don't even remember pulling it out. If Charles hadn't shot he would have acted, would have killed him. Max had taken a life before, but that was just a job, he didn't know those people, but this one he did. Max saw the anger in everyone's eyes, they all wanted him dead. Now they were dealt with. Arthur was dead, he couldn't hurt anyone.
Max stepped back and looked at the body, "get Sam and Becky to clean this up," he said spat, "you see how it's done now Amber, Georgia, any of your men or women risk the farms lives again they will die. That's final."
With that he stormed off inside, he saw Brian and went to explain what happened. If there was one person that he would let do wrong it would be him. Brian was one of them, not the Fort.

"We did leave all the samples. None were loade into the trucks," Amber said looking at the man. She knew how this was going to end. But she couldn't watch everyone. She had to much on her plate and couldn't do it all herself. She had done the majority of the work while everyone healed, made sure it was secure and safe enough from outside liabilities. She didn't even think about one of their own. She had told Arthur many times that if he experimented he would end up dead, guess he didn't listen.
"I had to look after the seventeen new comers as well as my own. On constant watch and a run everyday. How was I supposed to set aside time to watch one man while I was doing all this on my own. I had told him it would result in his death, but he didn't listen. I checked with him every evening of every day. There hadn't been a problem, he wasn't going to experiment. This must have just happened. He called your bluff and lost," Amber said looking at the man pressed against the house.
Then she saw the shot, the blood hit Max and the house. Arthur dropped and she stepped forward. If it was anyone else she'd have disarmed them. But she knew Charles wouldn't shoot anyone else.
She saw Sam come running from the area where Arthur came from. The man aswell was covered in blood. It didn't look good. "Sam answer yourself, I know you weren't helping him."
"He had four strung up on that side of the barn. He found them outside the part of the wall. This was recent, they weren't there lastnignt. This happened within this morning. I took care of the others he had chained. They need to be burned," Sam said looking at Arthur's body, "crap you killed him too."
"Amber did what she had to do. She was checking on him. We can't expect one person to work miracles, especially not while the rest of us healed up. I do not blame anyone else except Arthur for this."
Charles looked to sam. He listened to his explanation and cursed under his breath. How had the scientist managed to do all of this under their noses and not get caught.
"Good job taking care of the growlers Sam and yes I killed him. He threatened the safety of this farm and by extension all of you. I can not ignore that. I am sure that Amber would have exacted punishment for this if I had not."
He motioned Amber over to him and holster ed the 1911. It's silencer stuck out the end of the open bottomed leather holster. As soon as she got to him he would address her.
"Me and you need to make sure that there were no other growlers that Arthur had tied up. I know you want to go get your people but after what just happened me and you need to show a united front and let these people know that those in charge are not above handling the situation personally. We will leave first thing in the morning. I promise, and I will be with you."
Abby was shocked at what was happening. She felt Sarah wrap her arm around her, and let her lead her into the house. They had entered the hall when she heard the shot. Abby flinched, knowing what Charles had done. She knew the man was out of line, but she didn't want anyone to kill him. She sighed and leaned her head against Sarah's shoulder, 'This world has gone crazy." She spoke softly and let Sarah take her into the kitchen, "So, what did Brian decide your issue was?" Sarah glanced at Abby, as she led her to a kitchen chair. Sarah glanced back at the screen door to the porch. Abby sighed softly, and felt a huge wave of doubt run through her. Had they done the right thing? She looked at Sarah, 'Apparently I am gonna have a baby, he thinks." Abby didn't look over joyed, in fact the woman looked scared to death. Sarah ran a hand over Abby's shoulder, "You are gonna be fine , you and MAx, we are going to take good care of you." She smiled at her, and waited for Charlie and Max to come in. Max did and went straight to talk to Brian. She wanted to talk to him, but figured it would wait.

Amber saw Charles wave him over and joined him at his side. She listened to him speak and nodded along. He didn't want to go. She knew deep down. He'd keep putting it off. He most likely thought it was a loss cause and a to dangerous to go.
"You're right," Amber said looking at him. "We need a unified front. Max needs to be with us as well as Abby and Sarah. We may want to speak to everyone as a full group. After we clean up the body we will take it around back and burn it with the others. The fire will be away from the others so they don't have to see." She paused and looked down at the ground. "I don't know how much you thinking his rattled everyone. Lots of the girls have seen people die at the hands of their own friends, sometimes daily. Georgia just brushed it off. My men, have seen their friends die in front of them. Enough that they could handle what they saw. They should know that Arthur was a dangerous pawn. I would rather have exiled him, but what's done is done. My men are strong, they can get through it. I can wait till tomorrow but no later. I will leave tomorrow wether you come or not."

Max walked through the house and to where Brian sat in the living room. "Arthur is dead," he said looking at him, "he was conducting those experiments and Charles killed him. He had been warned but did it anyway."
"What do you mean he killed him," Brian asked, "was that really the first action they should have taken, killing the man. Surely banishing him would have been better."
Max didn't answer, he just kept on through the house and up the stairs. Once he was in the room that he and Abby shared he closed the door behind him. He went to the dresser and pulled open the first drawer. Inside was the Abby's pistol, the one Max had used while at Fort Bragg. He tucked it into the belt around his waist. Ontop of the dresser sat his machete which he strappe to his back. Finally he grabbed his coat and walked back down the steps.
At the bottom he walked into te armoury and grbabbed one of the hunting rifles. He slung it over his back and went to where he heard Abby and Sarah talking. Max wrapped his arm around Abby and kissed her cheek. "I'm going to go out. I need to get away. I'll be back after lunch. I just need to get away, can't be cooped up in here. Figured I'd go hunt. I just need to kill something. I set a few snares yesterday, want to know if they worked."
Abby saw Max coming into the kitchen. He wrapped his arm around her and leaned in to kiss her . She pulled back. He still had Arthur's blood splattered on his face. Abby stared at him wide eyed. He was leaving. He was going hunting! She nodded at him, realizing he was being honest with her. Explaining himself. He needed to process. She got that. Her face softened," alright, be careful." She gripped his arm. Abby glanced at Sarah," I can't believe he shot him, just shot him." She reached up and wiped Max's face with her hand.

Max looked at Abby then Sarah. When Abby whipped off his blood he just looked to the ground. He knew why charles did it, and he didn't blame him. He didn't know if the girls saw what he did but he needed them to. They needed to see how the farm needed order.
"He did it to protect the farm. To protect you, Sarah, and everyone on it. It had to be done, the man didn't listen. He disobeyed the farm and put everyone at risk. Sending him away would have been his death. Arthur was not a fighter, he wouldn't last a minute against the Sinners. Better charles do it than a sinner."
He leaned against the counter in the kitchen, taking a rag to whip his good arm. He looked at Sarah and Abby again. "If charles wouldn't have shot him then I was going to kill him. My knife was out. I was ready to take his life. I would have. To protect you, and protect the farm."

Sarah glanced at Max, and then shook her head at what Abby said. She could tell Max was on edge. " Abby, Max is right, it needed to be done. People need to understand that certain things will not be tolerated. That man put us all at risk, and Charlie would not have done that otherwise. " she smiled at Max, glad he understood why Charlie did what he did." Max has faith in Charlie's judgement, we all should. And I am certain Max meant what he said, he is going to protect his family, and we are family." She gripped Abby's hand," go ahead Max, I will take care of her til you get back." She glanced at Louis," We have to make sure Abby eats, she is eating for two now." Sarah smiled and smoothed Abby's hair.
"I actually like the idea of having a meeting. It will give us an opportunity to talk to everyone."
He listened to her speech about how the girls and her people were strong and while he was sure that she was right he also understood the nature of peoples' reactions to decisions like he had just made. Even if they agreed with it, which not everyone would, it had a tendency to make people worry about themselves, which was part of the point, but it also had to be controlled. If they lost faith in the leadership they could fall apart.
"I don't doubt that they are strong. They have proven that by living for so long in this world, but whether they agree or not what just happened has the possibility of causing decent in the ranks. As for banishment... I have a strong feeling that with Arthur it would have been the same exact thing. He wasn't a fighter and if he had survived somehow he could have become a threat again to this place if he came back for revenge. I understand your reasoning but I think that you have been behind walls for too long. Don't get me wrong I value your voice and you are a strong leader, I would have fought to have you under my command before all of this and I will fight to keep you beside me in leadership here but the world is much different now and anyone that you don't take care of quickly becomes a threat."
