Abby stared at Brian, a little shocked at how calm and relaxed he was by all this. She let him get her temp, and was slightly relieved she didn't truly have a fever. She groaned slightly," I just wish my stomach would stop doing that flip flopping thing." She stood there staring at herself in the mirror.
Brian just wanted her to relax, fat chance. Those eyes of hers stared at him in the mirror," you seen any? Babies born since all this? They normal?" And there it was, fear number one at the base of everything. Abby didn't turn around, just held his gaze in the reflection. " is it even a good idea to have it? And what if something is wrong with it? " too many variables and not enough information.
Sarah had gone looking for Charlie, but seen him having a discussion with Amber, so she didn't interrupt. He soon found her down stairs in the cellar. She and Abby had been working on it the past few weeks. It was a good storage for food. She had lined the shelves and brought down a lot. Louis had been helping. By making perserves, it was a good way to help the food to last and to fosomething withit before it spoiled.
She glanced up as he spoke,"I think Abby is pregnant." She blurted out as soon as he said they needed to talk. Her eyes locked on his. She was worried about her friend. " I know I should be excited, I am ,I am just worried." She smiled, answering what she knew would be his next question. Sarah canted her head and crossed the distance to him," what is it? Something is wrong, and not what I just told you? What did Amber want?" Sarah was no fool, she could put two and two togethet.
"No I haven't seen any born since then, I haven't even seen one since it started. Sure there are risks, there always are. But people gave birth without hospitals before, I'm sure they can do it again," Brian said moving back, "now I'm not trained to deliver a baby, but Dean would know more about the risks."
He pause and looked at her, "I get that you're scared now, thinking of what will happen. If it will even live. I you will even live. Probably thinking that the world is no place to raise a child. But we can't just let the human race die out. This may be the first baby born in this world, highly unlikely, but it just may. Now I'm determined to make sure this is the first baby born in this world with a mom and dad to raise it to be strong. To raise it together as a family."
He continued to lock eyes with her in the mirror. "This is you first child with someone you love. Even if the world is crap you should be happy. You need to keep fighting as you have. But appreciate the kid, it will truly be a gift upon you."
Abby stared at Brian and swallowed. He got it, most of it. She sighed," it's not me I am worried about, I think I have a maternal instinct, least I hope so, and Sarah will help me, it's Max, that I am concerned about." She slowly turned and faced him," you will do whatever you need to do, should this end badly, right?" Abby was not the toughest , but she knew the score and wa prepared for it.
It was Max, he was the variable she was worried about. She could ride this out and deal with each step, but she wasn't sure how solid he was about all this. Abby knew Sarah would be a rock for her, but who would Max turn to?
Her worry finally made sense. Knowing who was the father he could reason with that. Max wasn't to most reliable or most stable member of this slowly growing group. Then her comment about him handling it caught him off guard. He swallowed an looked at he directly.
"Of course I'll handle it. As much as it would pain me it would hurt me not to handle it," Brian said frowning. He then smiled, "and don't worry about max. If he were to talk to anyone it would be me. I'll talk to him. He will listen to me. You don't need to worry about Max. He'll see reason. I can promise that. He's not going anywhere. i'll talk to him, promise."
Charles had to take a step back when Sarah told him that she thought Abby was pregnant. He was excited for her but at the same time he imagined what that would be like. It would be tough and birth would be a huge risk. They didn't have much here. It also made him think. He had talked to Georgia a couple of times, enough to know that Max's assumption of what that place had been was correct. A couple of the woman who had come from the junkyard were probably pregnant as well. They would need supplies which meant that they would need to go to a hospital. Charles shuddered at the thought.
"Amber wanted to talk about a run. Before we went to the fort she had sent 3 of her people out to search for some survivors that had made contact with them. Her people are safe for now but they need help transporting the survivors."
Abby felt certain that Brian meant what he said. It was the way he met her eyes in the mirror, that convinced her. She waited a moment. She slowly turned,"alright, I am gonna go out there again and hope I don't get sick again." She chuckled softly and then reached and opened the door.
Max went to get her coffee, she thought. As she stepped out into the hall, she felt a little better. A bit more relaxed and at ease. She stood in the hall for a moment , then took a deep breath. She knew that despite her physical revolusion of food at the moment she needed to eat something.
Sarah stared at Charlie , and saw his reaction to her words. She didn't know exactly what he was thinking, but his face said it was far from good.
She frowned , worried about what he was thinking about the pregnancy idea. As he told her what Amber wanted she stiffened. It took a moment for her to understand exactly what that meant," Charlie, you can't " she crossed to him," you have responsibilities here." She shook her head and the words poured out of her . She started to tremble," you are the leader here, you have people here expecting you to lead and protect them!" She gripped his shirt," you can't go, I mean, I know she wants you to go, but if both of you go who is going to be in charge here?" He had left her here once and looked what happened. She was trying not to freak out, but was failing at it.

Max appeared in the hall, coffee in hand. He moved toward abby and wraped and arm around her. It was his cast arm so didn't provide as much comfort as he wanted. He smiled at her and kissed the top of her head. Stepping back quickly he looked at her.
"Wait you're not sick are you? Don't have a virus or something," he asked handing her the cup of coffee, "just don't want to get sick of you are."
He saw Brian leave the bathroom and intonthe next room. He was still in earshot. He would say something to Max after Abby spoke. This was for her to tell, he wasn't going to spoil that.
Abby stared at Max, and stiffened for a moment. He was worried she would make him sick. She shook her head," I wouldn't do that, if I was able to pass this I would stay away from everyone , especially , you." She frowned and then took a deep breath," I don't really have a fever." She glanced and saw Brian move out and into the other room. Damn, maybe he should tell him." I mean if you could catch it, it would be hilarious and I think it would be karmic payback for every man left on the planet, personally."
Abby didn't know what to do, or day exactly. It was one thing to suspect, but another for the med guy to basically say she was knocked up. She looked at Max, and then started talking," Brian thinks it what you have been afraid of, but it's ok, it's," she shook her head," we, are not your problem,I am a grown woman and I will live with the consequences of my actions." She had heard him , he didn't want a baby. Wasn't that what he had said?
Abby couldn't make herself look at him," I won't be a problem for you, alright." She reached out to take the coffee," I should go talk to Sarah." Sarah wasn't that much older than Abby, but she gave her a sense of home, like a mom. Right now, Abby wanted to cry,but she wouldn't cry. Not in front of Max.

Max took a step back and listened as she talked. She wasn't sick but she was...she was... No it couldn't be. He shook his head as she continued to talk. He had fucked up. It was his fault. She shouldn't have to go through because of his stupid mistake. God what was he going to do? What was she going to do? Would she even live? Would this be the death of her?
He swallowed a lump in her throat. What did he say? What did he do? They'd barely even known each other. Grabbing her chin he pulled it up so they could look eye to eye. He wrapped his arm around her again and pulled her tighter. He looked into her eyes but didn't smile.
"Fuck Abby why do you have to be like this. It's not just your problem it's ours. We are in this together. I won't take it any other way. It was my choice too. I took the chance. I care for you. Sure face with the option I'd choose no baby. I wouldn't go out of my way to have one. That doesn't mean I don't want it. We fucked up. I fucked up. I'll be here, just know that. Now that it's certain I want it. I want you. I want to raise it. Some one has to teach it when to swing a bat and when not to."
He kissed her forehead, "you don't need to worry I'm not going anywhere."
Abby felt him reach out for her. She was trying her best to be strong, she didn't want him to feel like he had to do something he didn't want to do.
His words rocked her to her core. She looked at him, not given much choice. Her eyes stung with tears but she struggled to not cry. He wanted her. He wanted it. He wasn't going to leave her. She stared at him and started to try to get words out. Her lips trembled," I do...don't want you to feel like you have to." She stared and blinked and then broke. Those blue eyes clenched it. He was really upset that she was being the way she was. He meant what he was saying. Abby wrapped her arms around him and buried her face against his chest," I'm sorry' she held onto him but tried not to squeeze him too tight," Max,I'm scared." She confessed," bit Brian says it will probably be fine." She looked up at him," it might be the first baby since all this happened, I know it's strange , but I wanna give it the best chance we can." She meant that, and laid her head back against his chest.

Max pulled her closer, placing the cup of coffee on a table so he could wrap his other arm around her. He kissed her forehead again and smiled. "Hey we'll make this work. I promise. I'm not leaving. I don't feel obligated or like it's required. I want this. I want us."
He felt her head on his chest, "we will get through this. Any chance is a good chance. I mean in knight times they had kid. Queens lived to have four or five. What's one kid then. Dean had to know what to do, Brian too," he said kissing her again. "Plus there's women here whoa re pregnant. Two or three from the junkyard are pregnant. Guess they get some practice with them first. We'll make this work. I will."
Abby felt a rush of relief flow through her. She was not a coward, but she was glad he was not going to push her away or leave the group. She didn't want to be a burden to the group either.
When he spoke about Dean and Brian, she shook her head and actually chuckled. Well, men delivered babies all the time before the world went to hell, right? Hell, the even specialized in it! Max was right! Why was she so worried?
She pulled back slowly," alright, so we need to talk to Broan and find out what to expect, what We have todo, right?" She smiled up at him," there were a few girls at my high school who were pregnant before I graduated. I mean I am not stupid, I know I have to eat, even if I throw most of it up," she wrinkled her nose at the thought , as she reached for her coffee.

"Is there any certain food you really want right now," Max asked looking at her, letting her enough to grab a cup of coffee. "Aren't you supposed to crave weird things like liquorice wrapped pickles dipped in cottage cheese. Or does that come later."
He smiled and took her hand in his. It was his only good hand and he brought hers to his mouth and kissed it. "Want me to hust grab something light? Some crackers or something small like that," he asked looking at her, "why don't you go outside, and ill meet you out there."
Brian came out to the pair in the hall. "So you told him, good," He said smiling, "you'll be a great father max. You're dedicated. The baby probably has the best parents in all this world now. Two strong determined parents. I get that you're probably both scared but you'll get through it. I can promise it will be raised right."
He looked at them as they talked about food, "you'll need lots of nutrients. I'm don't know what ones exactly but I know vitamin D and calcium for sure. Iron is suppsoed to help. If we had a cow or chicken that would be great, sadly we don't. I rememebr Cheerios being good source of Iron. If we add that to some of their dehydrated milk, should be good breakfast. You may not want it but you'll need something. There's two of you there to feed now," he said pointing and gave a little laugh, "it my be called morning sickness but it lasts all day. Anytime, anywhere. I'll have Kira or Louis bring out some food."
He started to walk to the kitchen, hobbling on his crutches. He would kill for a prosthetic leg right about now.
"Louis I needd a bowl of cereal. Some dehydrate milk and Cheerios," Vrian said entering kitchen.
Kira and Louis went to work preparing the bowl for Abby.
Abby thought that sounded disgusting, but she would eat it. She hated feeling like she was a burden to the group, especially with Kira and Louis preparing her food and stuff.
She headed out to the porch and sat on the swing. She rocked it slowly and sipped the coffee. Toast! God, toast sounded good. Of this was going to last for any length of time, it was going to suck. Certain things sounded good, but soon as she really gave it thought, it was revolting again. She drew her legs up into the swing. Well, Brian seemed to have faith in her and Max, and least she had Max. Those girls from that junk yard had no one. She rocked, and then figured she would talk to Sarah. She closed her eyes for a moment, thinking about things.
Maybe they should raid a library for some medical books. The area around here was farm country, maybe they could scout around, see what animals they could find? All sorts of ideas ran through her head. Cow, chickens, pigs! Bacon!!! Her mouth actually watered for a moment.
Her hands grabbing his shirt was all the indication that he would have needed that this idea terrified her. Her words were only second to that. She was talking about responsibility and the farm needed a leader and as much as he was certain that those things were on her mind he was also certain that she was thinking about the last time that they had left her on the farm.
"We could leave Max or Brian in charge. They are both good guys. And... you could come with... it will be dangerous but I am certain that we would both feel better at each others sides, like we always have been. You've been with me through some pretty damn fucked up shit in this world. Your better then you think you are at all of this."
Declan sat still taking out the bolts to get the wheel off. "Right, got it." He said, it took him a few minutes but he got the wheel off and took the tire off. Declan put the tire in one space then the wheel in another. Declan went to the next wheel, starting on the bolts for that one, after a little while he had worked the 3 tires off and was finally on the fourth which one of the bolts were stuck or bent or something because it wasn't budging. Declan sat jabbing at it for a moment. "Have we got a jack or something?" He asked as he continued to try to twist it free, to no avail.

Amber watched Abby come out and sit on the porch a swing. She smiled at he and turned her attention to where Olivia, Penny, an Declan were taking apart a car. The first had the hood stripped and the second was removing the seats. Declan appeared to be removing the tires. They were working fast, really getting into it. She was surprised at how fast the could tear it apart. If they found more cars and continued to work at this speed then could have this wall up in no time. They still might need scrap metal from Releigh, she wasn't sure if they were ready to go back there quite yet.
----
Olivia looked at Declan, "jacks over there," she said pointing to a pile of tools, "manual Jack though, have to crank." The women threw the hood on the found and went to the bumper to remove it.
Penny had the seats torn out. They wouldn't use them on the wall but for furniture in the barn. It beat sitting on the ground. Picking one up she carried it over to Karly so she had a place to sit. The women just shook in it, watching them work on the car.
---- Amber looked up and saw Georgia exit the house. She had on a button up shirt of Amber's, her amy fatigue one, and Becky's tactical vest. "We're they almost finnishe inside," she asked pulling out a SCAR for the redhead.
"Didn't even see them. Shouldn't be to long. How long does it take to say goodbye," Georgia asked taking the rifle and looking down the sights. She wasn't the bes shot, but Amber was training her.
Amber watched Arthur come out of the shed. He was wearing an apron, a white butchers one. Covered head to toe in blood the man walked toward the house.
"What the fuck were you doing," Amber asked coming to face him, "you better not be experimenting?"
"Hardly experimenting when I know the outcome. There was no experiments involved," Arthur glared, "no step aside, I hate the blood on me. Starts to smell after a while."
