....Haley's friends who had come to make Lampson Field their base however briefly was a great deterrent to the likes of bandits in the area as long as they stayed. Another deterrent to bandits and other trouble from the living was a settlement from San Francisco....
Another day, another chance to keep the peace, Tamara thought as she climbed inside one of her group's Toyota Tundras' and made sure everyone else was ready to go. Sitting in the driver's seat, she waved at Mercy and a couple of others before firing up the truck; although only three of the diesels' would be going outside the airfield's boundaries, it was an important part of keeping the peace, something for which her Scouts - veterans of Rikers Island, Belle Isle, Fort Worth and the Valley - were well accustomed to doing and doing well. Daniel taught us well, she mused, thinking of their former boss, but we've picked up a few things as well along the way.
And alliances have helped also, she thought, thinking of the informal alliance between her group at Lampson Field and the Free City of San Francisco that had benefits for both sides; for Tamara's Scouts, it allowed them a relative bit of peace to set up a new home, a new place to rebuild and a chance to keep the peace throughout the area. It also gave them the chance to increase their own numbers, a successful task as the Scouts now numbered around 350, their roles and positions based mostly on seniority....mostly, Tamara humorously whispered as she saw her twin sibling rushing over to the truck.
"Sis, wait up! Wait!" Sarah yelled; rolling down the window, Tamara sighed and shook her head. "Yeah, what d'ya want?" she asked.
"Well if that's how you're gonna treat me," Sarah joked, giving her twin a slug on the shoulder, "anyway, be careful out there and be safe; Keirsten & Rain's birthday's are coming up soon and I want their Aunt Tamara alive and around, okay?" giving Tamara another slug on the shoulder. "By the way, Masumi and a few others went out to check for supplies; they should be back soon. They're on Channel Four on the radios," pausing as her sister wrote the info down.
"Anything else, Sis?" Tamara asked.
"Nah, get on out there and keep us safe, alright?" Sarah replied, smiling as she stepped back before adding, "Oh, before I forget, Bam says he's got his people working on the LAV's; they should be finished by the time you return."
"Lovely, lovely," Tamara replied, waving as she signaled for the driver to get them moving; sticking her arm out of the window, she signaled for the three other Tundras' to follow hers' as the trucks got going for their daily trip into Clear Lake and the Lakeport area....
