Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
-Somewhat described above. Al grew up in California, always having a natural gift for school. But, his ambition did not match his intelligence. He got a college degree since it was free and from a good school, but he never wanted to do much with it, leaving him to pursue his passion for collectible games, comics, tabletop games, etc. He was not what you'd call a man-baby, or someone who refused to grow up--indeed, he was quite a family man, too, finding a wife, Samantha, who shared his passion and building a home together. They never had children.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
-Al was home with Samantha on outbreak day, and when they heard the news, they barricaded themselves inside their silicon valley home. They had ample supplies, and lasted this way for months. They even took in some neighbors and shared the home for quite a while. Things seemed safe.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
-Eventually, tragedy struck as Samantha and two others got lost one afternoon on a supply run, months after the outbreak day. Samantha and one other made it back to Al's home, but both had been bit. Al and the others said their goodbyes, and had one member of the group who had no attachments to Samantha or the other bitten member take the shot that killed them. Al blames himself to this day for not going out with Samantha and the others, sure of the fact that he could save them.
In time, Al and the others could not afford to stay in his home anymore, as they'd exhausted local resources. Thankfully, the expansion of the FCSF allowed them a new community to join, and they became willing citizens. They would do anything to earn their keep. Besides one member of Al's original group, all others have fully assimilated into the FCSF.
