Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
-He was a Romani, one of the Rom, a 'Gypsy' to most Gadjo. He was a walking stereotype in a lot of ways, he lied, he cheated, he stole. He was born in Ukraine, which was then part of the Soviet Union, something that dissovled soon enough, when he was very young. His parents? They took him to America, when he was still young enough to "learn," so to speak. Of course, they went through Europe, and then a boat, to get there, but yes, they took him to America. It was illegal, of course, but he went none the less. He was taught as most Romani are taught, by his mother, by his sisters, by his grandmother. He has a great deal of respect for women, particularly "his" women because of this.
He learned how to use a knife when he was a young boy, his father taught him this, just as he taught him to pick pockets, his education being very different from most children's. He didn't have a very formal one, not at all, but he was a smart boy and he loved to read, and so he did, particularly becoming enamored with Terry Pratchett, who became his favorite author. Though, honestly, his English could certainly use work. He was quick to figure out things using the context of sentences, he was a bright boy, after all. Though, he never set foot into a formal school setting until nursing school, a decision by his mother. A fake identity had been made.. After all, someone had to look over poor Ivan. The child was being diagnosed with cancer.. They had little money, and because of their illegal status, who they were, they couldn't very well get a doctor, so he lied, and cheated, and conned his way through the school. Truth be told, he wasn't bad at it. He liked what he learned, liked that he could help people. Oh, he had to resort to nasty means to get through nursing school but ha! Learning pharmacology, learning medical things, learning science more in depth? He only got better at those illegal means of earning money.
Funny what school teaches you, isn't it?
He could take care of his brother, his family. Well. He was content in what he did, what he was doing, and he was more than happy to do just that.. Or he was, until everything went to hell.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
He lost his mother, he lost his father. He lost them both because one of their camp had gotten sick and died. A zombie had bitten him, they'd just thought it was rabies, but when the man stood up from the dead? Things go bad, and fast. He tried to protect the rest of his family, and maybe he could have done better, but it was what it was. He wasn't superman. In the end, he very simply did the best that he could, with what he had. He moved their camp to some place safer, some place warmer, in hopes that he could keep the rest of his family, his clan, safe.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
Fate is never kind to a Romani. This was a lesson his father taught him, and his favorite author taught him that she often has a twisted sense of humor. His camp, it'd been overrun by a herd, and whatever family he had that hadn't been killed or turned, was scattered to the four winds and he found himself alone. In his caravan, but alone, and that's no place for a Romani, but it was what it was. So, along he goes, scavenging for fuel, for supplies, doing what he can, doing what he absolutely has to, to survive.
