Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
Jocelyn had what you could call a normal life in the city of Columbus, Ohio. There was no traumatic childhood event, no single significant personality-defining moments, nothing happened that would push her to change the world other than her father's passing due to cancer. She was considered smart among her peers yet like so many others lacked the motivation to become something greater. Instead, as soon as she graduated high school, Jocelyn started to work towards a Journalism degree, hoping for a job that perhaps wasn't too boring, but didn't involve dangerous work either.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
Jocelyn was staying up late on that fateful day, cup of joe by her side, writing up an essay on a subject that would be deemed extremely trivial considering the events that would unfold only moments later. And perhaps that unhealthy habit of not getting proper sleep was what saved her life. She was awake when the walking corpse of her dorm mate shambled out of the bathroom, and was awake when she stabbed the poor girl in the face with a metal pen, after a few close calls and moments of hesitation. Without a degree to work towards to, few teachers left alive, and not to forget the world ending, Jocelyn abandoned her project and packed her bags.
And then she ran back home, a little too late. Then to anywhere but there.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
Equipped with only the skills she saw on the Discovery Channel and National Geographic, Jocelyn had had a tough time surviving, especially out in the wilderness. Yet, by sheer luck or god forbid, smarts, she managed to barely survive. In those first days, Jocelyn stumbled across a group, in which was a young police cadet who taught her how to fire a gun. They had a thing, but as they say, good things don't last forever. What surprised her was that it wasn't walkers, but other survivors that slaughtered the group. Jocelyn, hid, then ran, and had been running ever since.
Amidst the big grey mess dotted with specs of blood and brains that was the zombie apocalypse, Jocelyn occupied herself by writing like a proper journalist would, a journal that would tell the stories of herself and those she met. "Someday, someone's gonna want to know what exactly the hell happened. And since everyone else's so busy trying not to die, it falls to me to record all this"
