Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
Before the outbreak Corey was you're average every day guy. Okay, so maybe he wasn't so average. He was smart. He had a fascination with chemistry and science. He was in all honors classes and far beyond his peers when it came to chemistry. Corey was a super smart guy struggling to find work in the economy just like everyone else. Eventually he settled for a cashier job at the local 'Buy and Bag.' It wasn't fancy, and it wasn't glamorous, but it was money.
Corey spent his evenings in his mother's basement. His basement room was filled with posters of death metal bands and spray paint on the wall. His fortress of solitude was a cliché of teenage angst. He didn't fit into the hipster scene, he could care less what the other kids were doing. Corey was about science. Chemistry, computers, anything that went boom, or flexed his hacking skills put a smile on his face. Corey was as anti-establishment as it got. He wasn't afraid to buck up against the law. He was a modern day Robin Hood... If Robin Hood sat behind a computer screen and launched DDoS attacks on Bank of America and other companies he thought deserved to be taken down a notch.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
Outbreak day came and went for Corey. He never stepped away from his computer. He sat behind his computer screen pirating software and listening to loud obnoxious music. At one point during the day his mother called down into the basement. Corey ignored it as he usually did. He was saving money so he could move out. He lived alone with his mom and they were about as distant as you could be. Corey isolated himself in his room doing his 'computer stuff.'
It wasn't until later that night he came up from the basement. His mother had called out about going to the store. Looking around the house was empty. He wasn't sure where she was, but he wasn't worried. Corey moved into the kitchen and grabbed an apple from the fridge. Taking a big bite he grabbed the entire jug of Sunny Delight and took it back down with him to the basement. He was in a comment section war with some stupid brat over the existence of dark matter in the universe. He obviously won the argument because the guy stopped responding. Corey took his small victory and decided to reward himself with snacks. Moving back down the stairs to the basement he had no clue that down the road things were eating his mother on the side of the road. Corey had no idea the world had ended from his basement seclusion.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
When the world ended Corey had to adjust. The world was bigger than the size of his computer screen. He found himself thrust into a world of violence and the dead. Corey wasn't the athletic type. He was in shape, but that was just genetics. He didn't go outside or do anything to contribute to his physic. Corey found himself running now. Running for his life, running from the dead... He was always just running.
At the very beginning, when things descended into madness Corey realized that his skills weren't exactly helpful in this dead new world. The internet was one of the few places he ever felt powerful... Now he just felt weak, scared and alone. It wasn't long after the outbreak Corey found himself with a small group of survivors. They were just regular people just like him. Some had jobs... Some might've had children, but he didn't socialize much. He didn't have very many socializing skills outside of his online chats. He saw the things that people were willing to do to each other before and after the outbreak. Most of it stemmed from greed. Corey wasn't a big fan of people but he realized he needed people to survive.
He survived with his small group for quite awhile until eventually the last of them died off. Corey is alone now. He lives in a small comic book shop in the center of the city. He spends his days reading stories from a world that didn't matter anymore. Stories of incredible bravery and righteous justice. The kind of justice he used to dish out over the world wide web. He's not as weak as he was when this all started, but Corey still needs people. He befriended a rat that he found in the comic book shop. He shares his small rations with it and at least he isn't alone. At least he has his rat.
