After the introductions and everything were gotten out of the way, Elise looked at the two officers and asked, "Let's get the two of you through Medical first, then have any medics present go through and then everyone else that arrived today....will that work, Colonel?" figuring that the sooner they got the medical exams out of the way, the sooner they could get to work reincorporating Belle Isle back under United States sovereignty....

"That should work," Colonel McKenna replied. "I don't think I have any medics with my people but I believe Captain Beloi has a medic with his team; have his medic go first, then myself and the Captain will go next and then everyone else will follow. Will that be satisfactory, Ms. Diefenbaker?" In McKenna's mind, if they got the medic through first, then they could get everyone else through a little faster in turn...(Lt. Heath) Listening to Lt. Lebedeva, Lt. Heath had to admit that she was right - sometimes a good offense is the best defense, she mused. Almost as soon as she was finished, Heath spoke up once more. "We've got a few Barretts; with us; we can put one in the control tower to watch over the runways while we put the rest in positions around the airport here, here and at these points here," pointing towards the ends of the two main runways and the connecting ground where the runways met. "We've got engineers with us, Commander; with your permission, we'll get them started fortifying the perimeter of the airport the same way we did at Albany: with anything and everything we can find for now.
"As for the rest....Lebedeva's right; we need to get patrols into these surrounding areas next to the airport," pointing out the streets immediately fronting against the airport, "and then start pushing out further and further and time and personnel needs require. We've got to have a buffer area surrounding the airport here so that we'll have room to work." After a few moments, Heath added, "What are your thoughts on this, Commander?"
"That should work," Colonel McKenna replied. "I don't think I have any medics with my people but I believe Captain Beloi has a medic with his team; have his medic go first, then myself and the Captain will go next and then everyone else will follow. Will that be satisfactory, Ms. Diefenbaker?" In McKenna's mind, if they got the medic through first, then they could get everyone else through a little faster in turn...
"That should work," Elise said as the group began walking up the steps and into the building. "If you'll follow Dr. MacMillan and his medics down over to Medical, they'll get your people cleared through in no time," hoping to get them through quickly so that they could begin talking about Belle Isle's return under U.S. sovereignty, figuring that the sooner they started the better for everyone.
Artyom watched as his Captain turned his head and nodded at him, signalling him to go ahead and follow Belle Isle's chief medical officer. Artyom, like the others had been listening in on the conversation, and nodded once. He turned to Dr. MacMillan and then said, "After you, doctor." It was at that point that he slung his AS Val over his shoulder, not wanting to appear any more threatening than a soldier in full ratnik kit was.

Sarah sat on the step at Elise's feet as they waited for doctor MacMillan to return with the people that were landing in the helicopters down the way. Her anxiety had kicked in hard after Elise had finished her statement about her being a future leader as she watched the end of the road and listened for the sound of engines, A leader? Me? How do I look like leader material? I can barely talk to people, let alone lead them... She thought as she kept her eyes and ears peeled. She was Greeted by that sound a few moments later before watching as Doctor MacMillan and a few other's began to emerge from the vehicle as it drew to a stop a short distance away, One of their uniforms looked familiar but it was followed by two unfamiliar ones, dressed in military fatigues, the design of the taller mans seemed foreign to her but the one of the woman to the doctors opposite side was clearly American. Letting a chuckle leave her lips at the sight of the approaching people Sarah felt a small smile form on her face at the thought of being surrounded by military personnel once again. "It really is the military." She said softly to herself in relief.
Watching as they approached Sarah stood up to stand next to Elise and placed her hands behind her back like her father taught her. Seeing the uniforms had made something click inside her, back to the days where her father would train her in their backyard with the rifle that now rested on her shoulder. As the trio grew nearer she noticed the taller man look at her and his eyes lingered on her face for a moment before turning to face Elise and begin talking to her. The eye.. he must have noticed it. She thought before shaking the thought away and mustering up a smile at the nearing crowd of officers. Noticing the tell tale markings of a colonel on her ACU's "We.. We.. Welcome ma'am.. And.. Sir." She greeted before attempting to shake away the nerves again. "or do I call.. You Colonel?" She asked shyly after Elise had finished about medical.
Stepping to the side out of their way she watched as the group began to walk up the steps into the building her eyes sticking to the taller man, Captain Beloi as he made his way past her. Why are Russians here too? Did they already bring their part of the world back to order or..? She questioned to herself before swiftly making her way to the other side of the group and next to Elise again, Gripping her backpack strap tightly, resisting the habit of grabbing the rifle strap as to not get herself shot from it being taken as a threat. "I hope this works out.." She muttered as she took up a position as to put Elise between her and the rest of the group.

Looking at the map and listening to the two LT's making plans and strategizing, Damen would take a pen out of his pocket and took the cap off of it. Placing the tip of the pen onto the Air Traffic Control tower, he made a small line going away from it and wrote at the end of the line, '.50 B.S.R/ M-14/ 2 AR-15s' Putting the cap back on and setting the pen back down onto the table, he would begin to state his mind. "We have construction material's beside out Medical tent which is here beside the Terminal building and inside of one of our Deuce and a half Truck's. If your Engineers need any tools that you may not have brought with, feel free to ask Daniel for it. She has a wide range of tools on the back of her personal Work Truck. And if you have the spare Heavy machine Guns, we could use the humvee's we have to do the patrol's along the main route line from here to Belle Isle. But I do want to ask, did you bring any technicians with you? I want to get power up and running again in this place so that the Radios up in the Traffic Control tower will be up and running so that we don't have a mishap again since we only have one Radioman that lugs around an old Radio pack on his back. Plus, with the heavy Fridges in the back over there, we could make some of our Food that we brought with us last a bit longer. Now...to the other part of the plan..."
Taking one last drag from his cigarette, he blew the smoke away from them as he began to put it out in the ashtray. "From what we observed and from what a pair of my hunters/ Scouts stated to me, the French American's hold two small towns east of here. So they will have cover inside of the buildings. They reported that they had put up a chain link fence around the two towns that they hold and at night, they patrol the areas with guards with dogs. These men that show up carry a mix of weapons such as AK's, G-3 assault rifles, AR's, M-16's and regular hunting rifles. Other weapons they might posses is still unknown. It was stated by my one scout that they are in the middle of building Watch towers in each of the corners. So, what armaments did your companies bring, for we will be seeing a bit of Heavy Resistance from them if we decide to take the fight to them, but, our military's are trained for such things."

Alexandra noted where Lieutenant Heath pointed out, remembering that Grishkov's marksmen had brought ASVK anti-material rifles. She waited till the commander finished speaking as well, making sure to note down what he said. "I'll have Grishkov dispatch two teams, one to the tower and the other to the end of the runway to accompany your men," she said, nodding to acknowledge what the Lieutenant had said. "We've got a pair of Kord Heavy Machine Guns in each of our helicopters. I can have the ones in Mi-171s that were ferrying cargo removed and mounted onto your humvees," she offered, taking a breath as she let the two of them consider what she had said.
"As for what we brought? We've got three Mi-35M Krokodil, or Hind Es as you Americans call them, as well as three Mi-171Sh-VNs. The Mi-35Ms have two 23mm cannons in the nose. There is a quartet of Igla-V anti-air missiles on each wing. They have a total of eight 9M120 guided missiles, we have both the anti-tank and thermobaric variant equipped. The Mi-171s have two GSh-23L 23mm cannon pods, two S-13 rocket pods and eight 9M120 guided missiles." Now this information, even if there was someone with hostile intent listening in, was next to useless. It didn't help to know what these missiles did when there was nothing the enemy had that could deal with them.
"My men have a variety of small arms with them, but before I go into any detail, I wanted to ask you something," said Alexandra, looking straight at Commander Smull. "We've got a pair of attack aircraft with us. Even if we have to recall them, since you seem to know where these people are located. Why don't we just feed our aircraft the coordinates, or if you don't know the exact coordinates, send a few of mine and Lieutenant Heath's men to mark out the targets for our aircraft? A single airstrike would be more than enough to wipe out wherever it is that they're holed up."

As everyone began heading inside to get their medical exams out of the way, Colonel McKenna heard the young girl standing next to Elise speak with what sounded like a halting voice...
Pausing as she walked over, Colonel McKenna knelt down in front of her and took off her ACU helmet, setting it down beside her as looked at the young girl. "Hey," she said, smiling in an effort to ease the young girl's fears, "my name's Anne; what's yours?" hoping her little act of friendship would ease any fears the young girl might have about their presence...(Lt. Heath Listening to Lt. Lebedeva detail everything they'd brought with them on their end, Lt. Heath took a few notes down so that later on, when things had settled down a bit the three of them - her, Alexandra and Smull - could decide on a common strategy for the airport outpost...
..."My men have a variety of small arms with them, but before I go into any detail, I wanted to ask you something," said Alexandra, looking straight at Commander Smull. "We've got a pair of attack aircraft with us. Even if we have to recall them, since you seem to know where these people are located. A single airstrike would be more than enough to wipe out wherever it is that they're holed up."
Looking over at both of them, Lieutenant Heath thought it made sense: eliminate the problem now and it would buy them time to build up the outpost....on the other hand, Heath thought..."We can do that," Heath said, "but we'll have to get in close enough to glass the targets for the aircraft; otherwise you run the risk of a strike that could injure possible survivors out there or ever our own people. We've got a pair of laser ranging and targeting devices with us; we just need to know where this Napoleon fellow and his people hang out at first before we go in heavy like that," looking back down at the map and adding, So, Commander, what was the last known location of this Napoleon and his fellows, if I may ask?"

Sarah made her way to stand next to Elise again as the group began to move, trying her best to keep her between herself and the others as they began to walk up the stairs, Reaching the top Ms. McKenna circled around to stand in front of her causing Sarah to nervously move her eyes up to meet the woman's. "Y..Yes ma'am?" She asked before watching her kneel down to her level and take off her Helmet to looked Sarah in the eyes. Sarah couldn't help but think how fitting the uniform was on her, just like it had been on her father all those years ago before the world was in total chaos.
"Hey," she said, smiling in an effort to ease the young girl's fears, "my name's Anne; what's yours?" hoping her little act of friendship would ease any fears the young girl might have about their presence.
The soft and kind voice soothed Sarah somehow, The fact that she wasn't barking orders like her father used to during her training caught her off guard at first, Looking to the sides past the Colonel for a moment Sarah refocused her eyes on the face of the woman across from her before she took a deep breath to steady herself. "Hello, I'm.. I'm Sarah ma'am, Sarah Bouchard."
It had been the first time in nearly three years that she had met someone that she felt comfortable telling her full name to soon after meeting, She wasn't sure if it was the the fact that she was from the military or the fact that she had made the effort to talk to her eye to eye but she had a trust in the military, A trust that had been ingrained in every fiber of her being since she could ever remember, Being raised in a family of them would sorta do that to you. "I'm, I'm new, So.. So I don't really have a lot to say about this place yet.. The people, Aren't bad though.. From what I've seen, ma'am." she added as she looked over at Elise standing next to her. "From my past, This is heaven ma'am."
Returning her eyes to Ms. McKenna Sarah moved to stand At Ease like her father had always had her do between exercises or training. The sight of the military uniforms had snapped her back to those times in a way, A time of peace and happiness, The thought that these new arrivals might actually help in making those times return had taken over in her mind and replaced any sort of fear she may have had up to that point. She still couldn't force herself to forget her fear of people but if the military was truly here, Maybe, Just maybe that meant that the world wasn't entirely lost, Just yet.

While sitting there, he listened to the idea of an airstrike. The idea was good for it would mean that the threat could be taken care of at a moments notice. Nodding his head a bit, he looked from the map and up at the two female L.T's as they talked a bit about the airstrike and was finally asked about what he thought and about the location of the Napoleon. Picking up his Pen, he would put an X on a town hall of the southern Town at their western area that is within the two circles that had F.A. in it. Setting it back down beside the map, his eyes would go to the Russian L.T. and say to her. "That's the town we've seen him in most of the time. So, when would you want to call in this Airstrike L.T. Lebedeva? Then I can make sure my scouts and hunters stay away from that area once the fireworks begins to go off on those two towns. And about those Machine Guns, we could put them on two of our Hummer's since the other two have .50's on them, thank you Ma'am for the offer. And I would Also like to thank you both for offering your services around here while we are a bit short handed at the moment."
Reaching for the map, he would pick it up and folded it up. Looking towards the Russian officer, he would hand it towards her since it was her idea for an airstrike. "You make sure that your pilots lay to waste that place. If there is sand there, you turn it into Glass." After she would take the map, he would reach for his pack of smokes and his lighter and put them away into one of his pockets. Thinking back for the last couple of days that they have been there, he had to admit, it was hell so far. But it isn't anything compared to what he has been through so far. "If there is anything you would need or need to talk about, you can find me in the building or at the Medical Tent, and if there isn't anything else that is needing to be discussed right now, I think we need to get to work and start to set in motion the next turn of events for our enemies at the Western section of the area. Me and my men can take care of the dead."

"From my past, This is heaven ma'am."
"Anne McKenna," Colonel McKenna replied, adding, "I've noticed that; its' a lot liek West Point," smiling as she spoke; reaching back behind her, she got her ACU patrol cap out - it was a spare she kept in case she lost her other one - and affixed it atop Sarah's head, making sure it fit snugly but not tight. "There you go," she said, glancing over at the others who were entering the yacht club building and adding, "Let's head back inside and join the others, shall we?" getting up from where she'd been kneeling, her rucksack over the shoulder and her M4 over the other one...
A smile formed on Alexandra's face as Commander Smull thanked them for offering their services, and seeing an opportunity to make light of the situation and perhaps even lighten the mood, "Well Commander, we didn't cross the Atlantic because we wanted to crowd up your hotels and restaurants. On behalf of the rest of the Russian Army detachment with me here today, I can say that it is truly our pleasure to help." The smile faded slowly as she took a breath to answer his question, taking the map from him as she did so, "In regards to when we plan on doing the airstrike? If it's alright with you, I can give the order for the pilots to turn around and engage. Once the pilots have the target in sight, I can put them in contact with you so that they know which structures to engage."

Watching the smile, it made him to feel some relief as she talked to him and made somewhat of a joke about crowding up the hotels and the restaurants. Laughing a bit, he would nod his head and say to her. "That is very much so Ma'am. Not like the food there would be any good compared to what you and your men are use to." Then she asked and then stated about the Airstrike. The laughing stopped and his look became stern. "In regards to that operation...it's your show ma'am. You have the map, you can cooridinate the attacks. All the buildings are marked that are or suspect-able of having enemy units. These are your men, your equipment and your aircraft. So I have no Jurisdiction over them. You have full Reigns over this Lieutenant, after all....it is your plan." Placing both his hands on the top of the long table, he would push himself up onto his feet.
"If nothing else is needed to be discussed now....you both are Dismissed. And welcome to Detroit. Seems like we are going to have our work cut out for us today." Reaching around to his radio, he turned it back on. Grabbing his shoulder mic, he would push the button and would say into it. "I need my patrol units to meet me at the Medical tent. Got a little mission for us."

Once Commander Smull had excused himself, Alexandra began jogging back toward the gunship. The fighters would have just turned around to return to base, so running wasn't exactly going to increase their chances of getting in touch with them before they were out of radio contact range, nor was not running going to decrease their chances. She jogged back out onto the runway, toward the gunship that had brought her here. Her rifle was slung over her shoulder, and so Grishkov was merely curious instead of concerned. "Peregovory proshli tak khorosho, a (Talks went that well, eh)?"
"Otkryvay dver', Grish, bystro (Get the door open Grish, quickly)," she said, not slowing at all. Grishkov opened the door of the Hind and Alexandra practically jumped in, taking a seat and connecting into the helicopter's intercom, disconnecting her own radio set from her headset. "Poluchite menya ot nashikh boytsov (Get me our fighters)," she said, and the pilots didn't even ask, they just put the pilot of the lead aircraft on for Alexandra. Mention of targets was enough to get the pilots to turn around and engage.
Their orders were after all, to protect the ground forces and their helicopters, and engage any priority ground targets. A force as large as the one they were moving to engage certainly counted as priority. It wasn't long before the Su-34s flew above the airport, Saturn AL-31FM1 engines emitting their very distinct cry. Inside, the weapons operators were preparing to arm their missiles, while the pilots adjusted their vector so they were heading toward their target.
About forty kilometers out, the pilots slowed to attack speed and began to drop to attack altitude for the Kh-29TE missiles they were about to fire. Each aircraft picked out the tallest buildings each. Each aircraft had two buildings sighted up, and in quick succession the first shots the Russian Armed forces would fire against the French Americans were fired.
From about a distance of 30km away, the weapons operators guided the two Kh-29TE missiles in. With a speed of 1,260 km/h, it was about a minute and twenty seconds later when the missiles hit the bottom of the buildings, detonating their 320 kilogram armor piercing high explosive warheads. When the aircraft were about twenty kilometers out, the next two Kh-29TE missiles were fired, targeting the next largest buildings. A minute and twenty seconds later, they detonated with the same effect on those two buildings.
There were still a lot of buildings left as targets, and at this range the best measure was the KAB-1500KR TV Guided Glide Bombs. The weapons operators on the lead Su-34 released their bombs, and the two bombs moved toward a cluster of smaller buildings. The FAE explosives would without doubt deal with whatever was inside them and the two fighters turned their attentions to another group of smaller buildings in the first town.
The pilots didn't have to wait long, and it wasn't long till they were in rocket range, about four kilometers out. A burst of ten S-8DF 80mm FAE rockets flew toward their targets, followed by another burst of ten. At that point, the aircraft were in cannon fire range. 30mm HEAP rounds tore into what was left of the buildings after the rocket strikes.
The two fighters made one quick pass over the ruined town. The red stars on the underside of their wings more than visible. Not that it mattered, after all, it was very, very unlikely that anything survived a barrage of that magnitude. The Russian Su-34s turned around, making for the second town. They'd barely leveled out when they started to repeat the process all over again.

Thirty minutes later.....
Sitting just outside of the Medical Bay, Elise watched as first the Russian medic was checked, then both Colonel McKenna and Captain Beloi headed inside for their respective exams; once they cleared Medical, their respective troops would go through, a pair at a time. In her mind, she was already going through the logistics and supply needs that would be needed initially to sustain their new arrivals, listing them in her mind one by one by one.
Getting her rover (handheld radio) off a belt loop, Elise switched it on and keyed the mic. "Pierre," she said, "can you drive down to the maintenance buildings and get several DRASH shelters - three of the M Class shelters should do for the time being, okay," referring to some of the portable military shelters left behind back in early/mid-2013. The M-Class DRASH shelters were the largest of the shelters, capable of housing up to two dozen people for several weeks minimum; with a bio-fuel powered portable generator to provide either air conditioning or heat, they would be modestly comfortable until permanent buildings could be erected later on.
As she thought about what needed to be done next, two things happened almost simultaneously: exiting the doors of the Medical bay were both Capt. Beloi and Col. McKenna, and her radio chirped; holding up a finger so that she could hear the radio transmission, she smiled and acknowledged with a reply. Setting the radio back in its belt loop, Elise smiled and said to both officers, "That was Ms. Sharpe; she's just arriving at the dock out back momentariliy. If you'll follow me," pointing towards the central hallway which connected the front entrance to the back entrance and the docks which fronted out onto the Detroit River.

After what had been a somewhat productive dinner and conversation with Silas Cooper down at Grosse Isle, Sarah - along with Hannah and the rest of their small group - sat in the rigid-hull skiff as they traveled back up the Detroit River, sitting back in her seat and wondering how things were going back at Belle Isle...especially now that our guests from New York have arrived, Sarah mused....after several months of long-distance conversation and negotiation, the day of days has arrived, her mind wandering a bit as they continued traveling up the river, the scenery - not that much had changed in the past four years - passing by on both sides of the river.
Before she could continue her woolgathering, someone called out, "There's the old RenCen, up ahead on the left." Looking over, Sarah could see the buildings that once made up Detroit's Renaissance Center - once a testament to Detroit's history as both the Motor City and the Arsenal of Democracy, now nothing more than abandoned shells, testaments to the great pandemic that swept through not just America but the world at large. As they passed over the wreckage of the former Ambassador Bridge - now a rusted hulk of metal and concrete lying in the bottom of the Detroit River - Sarah knew they'd be back home in a just a few minutes.
As she prepared to return to Belle Isle, someone called ahead to let them know they were returning momentarily and Sarha nodded; looking over at Hannah, she said, "Looks like we'll have a welcoming party when we return," smiling at both the thought of being back at Belle Isle and at the thought of cementing an alliance between Belle Isle and West Point, something that could have benefits for everyone involved....
Vasily nodded, adjusting the sling of his ASh-12.7 as he followed behind Elise. The medical procedure was quick, and very professionally done. Clearly they had that going for them. Of course, he was also used to the whole process and so perhaps he was not the best judge of it all. In any case, he was going to mention this in his report. In any event, he wondered what it was that would take Belle Isle's leader elsewhere. He then remembered the other island, Grosse Isle, mentioned in the briefing.
It would seem that there were a lot more settlements in the area, naturally this complicated things to a degree that Vasily wasn't starting to get annoyed with. Playing nice with one group of civilians was one thing, but pussy footing around to ensure that they don't step on the feet of others was another. He wasn't wanting to start a war here, but at the same time he wasn't sure how these other groups would take their presence. There was only one way to find out.
The next town suffered a similar fate, and it wasn't long before the pilots reported their success to Alexandra and aligned their aircraft with a heading that would take them straight back to base. Taking off her headset, she stepped out of the helicopter, and slinging her AS Val over her shoulder and connecting her radio back into her headset, she made her way over to the medical tent where the Commander had said that he'd be in the event that either of them needed to speak with him.
She didn't really wait to see if the guards were going to stop her or not, instead she stepped in and once she thought that she'd found him, said, "Commander Smull, I have some excellent news for you. Our fighters didn't leave a single building standing, and made sure that there was nothing left of that place but dust, ashes and echoes. These 'French Americans' won't be a problem for us any longer. If any of them survived and need another lesson, we'll be very happy to give it to them."
However there was something that she wanted to get off of her chest, and so she did, "And, I wanted to apologize for my behavior earlier. It was an honest mistake, what you did, and as much as I believed at the time you were simply making excuses, I see you have a lot on your plate. These are my men, their lives are under my command, and I must do everything to ensure they fight another day. I will do anything to protect them, so perhaps I might have let my temper get the better of me."

Sarah stayed close to Elise as the new arrivals began to cycle through Medical, Overhearing something about Ms. Sharpes return she moved to sit on the edge of the steps closest to the railing to stay out of peoples ways as they made their way up and down the stairs to see Dr. MacMillan. "I'll wait here ma'am." She nodded to Elise as they began walking away from her towards the water that was barely visible over the horizon, Assuming they were going to meet Ms. Sharpe at the docks from wherever she went earlier that day. Giving them one last nod as they began to walk away she took the helmet off her head and started to examine the bowl of protective head covering.
"It's pretty." She whispered to herself as she ran a finger along the strap and around the edge, feeling the fabric stretched across metal as she listened carefully for any approaching footsteps that weren't just walking past her down the stairs. "I wonder if dad's looked like this." She pondered out loud to herself as she set the helmet back on her head and secured the strap around her chin before laying the rifle next her on the railing and her bag under her shoulder. Leaning into her knee's as she stared down the road that Elise and the two other officers had made their way down and disappeared from site. As she did she wondered if she'd ever be one of them, Like everyone else in her family had been, Like she wanted to and was planning on before the end of the world. "Maybe one day." She muttered to no one in particular as another pair of footsteps began to sound from behind her, tilting her head to watch the figure as it began to emerge from the doorway.
Alyena stepped out of the medical room, then adjusted where her sling sat on her shoulder. She was glad that Artyom was there, and that he was the one to check her over. Nonetheless, the whole process was quick and painless, and that was certainly something that she could complement them for. That, and not being stupid enough to try and take their weapons away from them. The weight of her SVU-A comforted her, reminding her that it would always be there if she needed it. One of the few constants in a dying world.
It was about then that she saw the young girl that they'd seen earlier, with Belle Isle's second in command. She remembered the look on her face, and what had happened to her eye. Alyena was familiar with that look, she'd had a similar one on her face after that mess in Chechnya. War was hell, but what was happening here wasn't war. This was just plain hell. A girl this young shouldn't have to be worrying about any of this. She saw the helmet on her head and immediately recognised it as Colonel McKenna's.
She pulled her balaclava down so that her face could be seen, a smile forming on her face soon afterward. Noticing the girl turn her head, she snapped off a smart salute, "Permission to join you, ma'am?" Naturally, she was just messing around, and figured that to be the best way to get a conversation started. It wasn't only because Alyena felt a measure of pity for the girl, but also because she felt that she had something to say that could help her out. She also seemed like an interesting girl, and she had no other duties as of now. So as Pavel frequently said, 'Pochemu, chert voz'mi, net (Why the hell not)?'
