List 5 flaws:
-His anxiety.
-Has a general distrust for authority, especially when it comes to police and the government.
-At times, he can be racist. This is mostly because of his father's inherent distrust of white people that sort of rubbed off on him. His father was an activist, and was at wounded knee. He's not outwardly malicious towards them, but he does have a certain reservedness when it comes to them.
-He's nowhere near as familiar with cities as he could be. He grew up on the reservation, he worked at a gunstore on the outskirts of the city, he's not at all accustomed to them.
-He's tall, he's lean, he sticks out like a sore thumb and has a fairly unique appearance, he's easily remembered.
Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
He was born and raised on the reservation in Mescalero, New Mexico in Otero County, born to a mother and father both of Chirachuan Apache descent. He's very proud of that, ridiculously proud of that. It's because of that pride, that maybe he's survived as long as he has. He moved off of the reservation at age 18, however, when he finished highschool and moved into town, mostly because he felt the need to get away from his family. Though he loved them, it was a mostly not-so-healthy environment. His father, often drunk, wasn't exactly a model of healthy living, he was a veteran who'd turned to alcohol to treat his PTSD. Honestly, Ethan just wanted out of there. His father was a good man, but a man who was sick at his soul because of his own disorder, and the intermittent violence was probably the root of why Ethan had developed an anxiety disorder. His father always felt bad about it after, but it was what it was, and Ethan wound up leaving because of it.
He had a job, at the least, at the local gunstore, his father having been a regular customer.. Well, the owner tended to take a shine to Ethan, especially since the boy had dated his daughter when he was younger. Stereotypically, the old man had been shooting cans off a fence post in an attempt to intimidate the kid when Ethan was picking her up, and strangely enough? Ethan had bonded with him because of that, because of their mutual interest in guns, and shooting. Hell, he became like a second father to Ethan.
He got insurance through working for the shop's owner, and over the years? He had his anxiety treated, though it never truly went away. He was happy, he was finally starting to live his own life and not so much in the shadow of his father. Though, once he started to compete in the IDPA just like the owner had, like his own father once had, it was as if the man saw his son in a new light. He even went to state competitions here and there, and he was getting damn good at it too. He'd placed in national events here and there, and even showed promise at it.
On his twenty third birthday, his father wound up passing away due to cirrhosis of the liver, and though he died, Ethan felt as if the last year of his father's life, that he knew him the best.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
- All hell broke loose. Ethan went to the shop the day of the happening, and it was him and Zeb that held the fort down. Ethan's family were holding up in the reservation, in the house he grew up in. He went there, briefly leaving the shop, to get them but when he got there? They were already dead. Hell, he barely made it out of there himself. He helped Zeb to barricade the shop, to fortify it, and kept there with Zeb's family the best that he could. They were fully armed, fully ready to sit there and try to wait out the apocalypse for whatever it was worth. Not that Zeb, or Ethan, were too keen on the actual government swooping down to protect them or fix the situation.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
-Like all good things, this too, came to an end. People intent on taking the shop by force came by in the early days of the apocalypse and Zeb made the call not to give it to them. He would have given them supplies, but they wanted more, and it came to blows. Between Zeb, Ethan, and Zeb's families? They held off the attackers, and they drove them back, killing most of them but in the end? They wound up drawing Walkers, almost a herd of them, and no matter how much they killed? More of them came. Zeb had the idea of shooting their way out, making it to their delivery van, and getting the hell out of there.
It was a solid plan in theory, but it lacked execution. Sure, they made it to the Van, but only after Zeb was bitten. They knew what a bite meant, but it was just Zeb's leg, they'd thought if they could remove it, they could keep him from turning, and maybe they could have, but in the hacking off the leg, Zeb had lost too much blood, and wound up bleeding out in the back of the van. His wife held him close, which was another mistake because even as they got the hell out of dodge? Zeb came back, and he bit his wife, killing her. Poor Ethan crashed the van in the ensuing struggle, Zeb's daughter going out of the front windshield, and even in that tangled mess? Ethan managed to off Zeb, but just barely, doing the same to his wife. Cathy, his daughter, had been killed in impact when she went through the windshield.
It seemed, that really and truly, for once in his life? Ethan was truly alone.
He'd survive though, his story wasn't done, and even though he was travelling alone now? He was very much so intent on making it.
