Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
Before the outbreak Christian was a quiet guy. He was a beastly hulking brute of a man, but all in all he was a gentle soul. Christian owned a little bookstore in a dying industry. Every thing was about the internet and E-Readers. The flow of information moved more in the ways of tweets and facebook statuses. No one really had time to read anymore. The world was becoming more and more computerized and stores that sold actual books were falling by the wayside.
It was getting bad. Christian thought that he would have to eventually close up shop. Sell his business and get a new job. The bank had already sent him warnings. It wasn't his fault, people just didn't buy books anymore. The information age was killing his dream. Christian had a fondness for books and reading. He spent most of his free time with his nose in a book. He had started building up a rare encyclopedic knowledge of obscure off the cuff things that no one needed to know, but he did. It was one of the things that he enjoyed before the world fell apart. One thing is for sure.... With the world gone he would have plenty of time to read.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
- On outbreak Day Christian had decided to close up shop early. There hadn't been a single customer all day. It was already pushing 4 o'clock. He resigned himself to spending a quiet night at home and sitting in his favorite chair. He had a copy of a real page turner that had his interest lately. The thought of finding out what happened next in the story did little to improve his mood as he sighed and turned the sign on the door to read closed.
It wasn't long after he displayed the sign saying closed that someone knocked on the door. Christian wasn't in the mood for the smart ass teenagers that came by to ask him why he didn't sell comic books. They came by at least twice a week asking if he was going to start carrying them. When he told them no politely they always replied basically the same way. "That's why your store sucks mister!" They would run out of the store laughing as if it were the funniest thing in the world. Christian was going to ignore the knock, but they were persistent. "We're closed!" Christian grumbled as he stored over to the door. He ripped open the door to shout at the pesky troublemaker when he was greeted by a dead man.
Christian stumbled back in horror. The thing's eye was hanging out of his head. The side of his face was caved in and his arm was bent backward at a weird angle. The man had been hit by a car. Someone had run him down in the street running away from some other horror. The thing shuffled forward. It dragged a limp leg behind it. Shuffle....Slide....Shuffle....Slide... It lunged at Christian and tried to bite him. Reacting on instinct he picked up a heavy book and swung it as hard as he could. Christian turned the book sideways and used the hard spine to crack it over the head repeatedly until it stopped moving. What the hell just happened he wondered breathing heavy and trying to get his bearings.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse
- Christian has mostly kept to himself these last four years. He has come across pockets of humanity, but mostly he has avoided people. He found himself with a group of people shortly after this whole thing started. What started as a group of survivors doing the best they could to make it; ended in a bloody power struggle. Christian always thought of himself as a good person. He had blood on his hands. He violently killed three people from his group just in self defense. Though when he lost his temper... He lost it bad. It was more than self defense after a certain point. When their bodies had stopped moving and he was still stabbing them... Christian knew that he had lost it.
That part of himself frightened him. He didn't like that raw violent animalistic side that he had somewhere deep within his meaty chest. That part of him felt good when he lost control. He didn't like that he could become so enthralled with taking another human life. So he avoided people. Mostly for their own safety. Christian felt himself turning into some other person he didn't recognize. A cruel violent darker version of the quiet bookstore owner.
For the last four years Christian has moved from place to place. He hasn't stayed at anyone one place for to long. Every time he finds himself settling in something drives him away. Sometimes it's a horde of walkers, others its a group of people setting up camp nearby. In which case Christian quietly snuck away to avoid hurting anyone. He still didn't trust himself, even after all this time. Over the years the isolation has started to wear on him. He is lonely. He just misses basic human interaction. Christian longs to be around people, even if it isn't safe. He has to start trusting himself at some point right? Christian is now in Louisiana. He is looking for a new home. He's so tired of moving place to place. He just wants to set down roots and have someone to talk to, maybe discuss their favorite books.
