Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
-Before the outbreak Joanna lead a typical boring life. She had a job at the local pharmacy. She had to undergo special training for it, there was decent money there. She wasn't satisfied though. Her life offered her no excitement. No thrills. Joanna craved for adventure, the dangerous kind that put a chill on your spine and made your toes curl. She found that when she met William Pope.
William was the type of guy who was all wrong for her. He was well off in his own right, he came from money, but chose to be a criminal thug because it was more fun. He was the bad boy. A dangerous bad boy at that. She found herself thinking about him in the hours between the time they spent together. It was a chance meeting that even brought them together. She was looking for a little danger and excitement. Joanna was brought to an underground street race on the edge of 8-mile. She never expected to meet someone that could change her life. It wasn't long before they were dating. He brought all the thrills and danger that she could handle. She found herself falling in deeper and deeper with the club, she started engaging in more and more club activities. She even swapped out pills from the pharmacy with placebos to sell on the side.
Did that make her a bad person? Yes, it did, but she was enjoying her life for the first time in so long. She loved the thrill of living so close to the edge. The danger of being caught at any moment drove her to be more and more reckless as she chased the thrill. Really she would have went along with whatever William asked. He was a life saver. He saved her from a life of the mundane.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
- On outbreak day Joanna was working her day job. She was leaning on the counter with her head propped on her hand. She was terribly bored. She wasn't even sure why she kept coming to work. She had been here five minutes and already she found herself thinking about what she would do after work.
It wasn't long after her shift started that she noticed there was an increasingly large number of people in the store. This was a little mom and pop pharmacy. It wasn't Rite Aid or Walgreens. It was some crappy little hole in the wall with cheap prices. They got some business, but nothing like this. Joanna watched curiously as more and more people filed in. They seemed to come in waves. A few of them came to her counter asking if they could issue out painkillers without a prescription. She told them no and wrote it off as drug seeking behavior.
Most of the customers just wanted something to bring down the fever, or some over the counter painkillers. She watched as people loaded up on batteries and bandages, painkillers and other things. Ordinarily what a customer bought rarely lingered in her mind more than a moment, but the volume of it... So many people were buying the same kind of stuff. Was there some sort of severe weather warning she wasn't aware of? She checked her phone and saw nothing. With a sigh, she continued to watch the cashiers get swamped from the back of the store. At least it's not me. She thought. The rest of her shift was uneventful. By the time she got off work, the streets were pretty quiet. She went home to her apartment and crawled into bed. She had a headache from all the noisy customers.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
-After the world collapsed Joanna found herself with the Fool's Dice Club. She had no real family to speak of. The Fools were her family. Each and everyone of them were like a brother to her. She felt safer with them than anywhere else. She got to the club to find that only a handful of the members were still hanging around. Most of them were scattered, but that was ok. She had William and his sister who was trouble, but a good kid. The group fell under the leadership of Johnny Rome. Johnny was the club's Vice President, and now acting President. Naturally he slipped into the role of group leader when the storm rained down.
Johnny did a good job of keeping everyone together, keeping them motivated. He kept talking about the Fools Dice boys coming back and that they were going to run Detroit. The Fool's weren't the only group in Michigan. There were others and Johnny brokered some shaky alliances, but still he kept everyone breathing. Joanna found herself settling in to this new world. She had her place at the table. It wasn't the best conditions surely, but she was among family. Each one of them would gladly die for the other. Their bond was that strong.
They scavenged supplies, they kept the bar fully stocked for when other Fool's would trickle in. Johnny was sure that they were out there and refused to give up on the notion. So they kept the place going. They kept the Fool's Dice Club the beacon shining like an oasis in the desert. Joanna was happy to help her family any way she could. Mostly she stuck close to William even though her could be difficult she loved him. One thing was for sure though, she didn't complain about life being boring anymore.
