Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
-Before the outbreak Raphael was happy. He was a photographer who owned his own studio. He had a wonderful girlfriend in Tina and the two of them got along for the most part. They argued sure, but not more than any other couple right? Surely they had their differences but for the most part they just worked together. Everything about them said that they shouldn't be together, but they managed to not only stay together but find some happiness. Raphael was content with life and the way it was going. He had a booming clientele. They commissioned him for weddings, family photos, holiday pictures.... There didn't seem to be a time around the whole calendar year that he wasn't busy. Life was ok.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
-On outbreak day Raphael was in in studio. Things started out to be just an ordinary day. He got in unlocked the door and set his bag down on the table. Raphael took a sip of his coffee as he turned on equipment. He was still half asleep at this point, but he had always been a late riser. Raphael moved over to the dark room where he had some pictures finishing. Most of his work was digital, but sometimes he liked to use an older camera, develop the pictures himself it just added a nice touch to it. Something more tangible that you could hold in your hand instead of just stare at on a computer screen.
The pictures in question were of a kid's birthday party. Ain't the world we live in a trip? Rich mom's actually hiring a photographer for her little brat's three year old birthday party. He wasn't going to turn his nose up at work no matter how ridiculous it seemed. Raphael stepped into the red lit room and took another sip of his coffee. He had to deliver these pictures if he wanted to get paid for them. First he had to check to see how they turned out. He looked at the first one hanging there. It was a picture of a crying child sitting in front of a birthday cake. He remembered that kid. He was a brat, he wouldn't stop crying the whole time. Raphael looked at the next picture. It was of some kids playing by the fence. A cross the street something caught his eye. It was a man covered in blood leaning on the fence with his arms outstretched to the kids. Had he not noticed when he took the picture?
It's possible he had a headache that day. The kid's party was terribly loud and obnoxious. Raphael was surprised he missed that though. He usually had a better eye for detail than that. He looked at the next photo and the man was gone. The children were still there but the man was no where to be seen in the next photo. He ran curious fingers over the photo. That's when his phone rang. He spilled his coffee. The moment had so spooked him out and he was so involved in that photo.... The phone ringing made him jump.
Raphael: Dam it!
He cried shaking the hot coffee off his hand. He answered the phone. It was the mother from the party. She needed the pictures as soon as possible. It was an emergency. Her son had gone missing. Raphael turned back to the photo for the bloody man leaning against the fence. His mouth hung open in horror as he realized in the pit of his stomach that something was terribly wrong.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
It's been four years. Four years of grinding out life just trying to make it another day. Raphael wasn't alone he had his girlfriend Tina with him and that helped. Honestly if he was going to face this world alone in the state it was in, he'd probably have eaten a bullet. Raphael was always the fiery passionate type. He was a good man and a good person, but he led to much with his emotions. That would get him into trouble.
Still, Raphael did whatever he could to keep Tina safe. She wasn't just some push over that he had to constantly protect. She could hold her own in her own right. in the end it was their bond that kept them going. Kept them pushing forward when they felt like they didn't have a leg to stand on. Raphael wouldn't let them stay any place for too long. He didn't want them getting comfortable, complacent. Honestly nothing felt like it offered enough safety for him to sleep soundly at night. He was worried about the possibility of something happening to Tina while he was asleep so he rarely slept.
They mostly had each other and that was enough. Raphael loved her. They were trying to carve out a piece of the apocalypse to keep with each other. Raphael thought they'd be pushing on again soon... That was until they found the firewatch towers. There were a few of them and they were rather spaced out.... Long abandoned by this point, but maybe good for the night. Raphael didn't like the idea of trying to push their way out of the woods in the dark. Much smarter to rest up in the firewatch tower and get a fresh start tomorrow morning.
