The base is protected from aerial approach by four S-400 long ranged mobile SAM launchers, four 9K37M2 Buk medium ranged tracked SAM launchers and four Pantsir S-1 gun/medium range SAM systems which are all coordinated by a 9S932T-1 Barnaul-T air defence battle management system. The skies themselves are monitored by not only the civilian band radar, but a Nebo-SV/SVU military air surveillance radar as well.

The base is patrolled regularly by four rotating patrols of a 14 strong Russian Army Scout unit backed up by a BMP-3M.
In addition, the waterways around the port are patrolled by a Zubr-class LCAC with an additional 14 man team of Russian Army Scouts with BMP-3M support.
Each Scout unit is split into two units of seven men. All of those in the unit are equipped with Ratnik gear, are armed with a MP-433 Grach 9x19mm pistol and carry two of the RDG-2Ch smoke and IR obscuring grenades, two RGD-3 Orange smoke grenades and two RGO fragmentation grenades.
Two men in each unit carry the MGK Bur, which fires the RPO-A thermobaric warhead, whilst also carrying AK-103 assault rifles.
Two are marksman equipped with the SVDK rifle, chambered for the 9.3x64mm round, which has improved penetration power over the 7.62x54R round used by the standard SVD.
One additional member carries the Pecheneg-SP machine gun. The configuration of the weapon allows them to fire both from the hip or using the inbuilt bipod system.
The Sergeant in charge is armed with an AK-104 and carries the Strelets information control and communications system.
A Lieutenant or Junior Lieutenant usually observes these operations from inside the unit's BMP.
The BMP-3M in use by the Scouts is equipped with Arena Active Protection System, Relikt Explosive Reactive Armor and heating/cooling systems so as to ensure that the crew aren't fatigued additionally, though in present times the system is usually switched off to conserve power as fuel is not an abundant resource, even with plants in Siberia operating at minimal capacity.

The port side approach is protected by the Kirov-class Guided Missile Cruiser Pyotr Velikiy and two Ropucha II-class Landing Ship Tanks. The latter of the three are moored there, and can move if the need arises. Moving the Pyotr Velikiy however will take significant effort as it's reactor is connected into the bases' power supply and is providing the majority of the power required.

The base's garrison of a detachment of a motorized Russian Army Guards unit frequently make forays into the city to clear it of threats and to rescue civilians. The hope of their commander, Lieutenant Colonel Valentin and his second in command Major Zhukov, is that eventually it will be safe enough to create secondary outposts away from the base. This unit consists of 10 T-90AM MBTs, 20 BMP-3M IFVs and 10 2S31 Vena mortar carriers.
A typical unit that ventures into the surrounding area consists of 34 men, 2 BMP-3M IFVs and a single 2S31 Vena and T-90AM MBT. These 34 men are subdivided into 17 man units, with their commanding officers (usually a Lieutenant or Junior Lieutenant) leading from inside their BMP-3M IFVs, owing to its enhanced command and control abilities.
These 16 strong units are further subdivided into two 8 strong units. All of those in the unit are equipped with Ratnik gear, are armed with a MP-433 Grach 9x19mm pistol and carry two of the RDG-2Ch smoke and IR obscuring grenades, two RGD-3 Orange smoke grenades and four RGO fragmentation grenades.
Two men in each unit carry the MGK Bur, which fires the RPO-A thermobaric warhead, whilst also carrying AK-103 assault rifles with underbarrel GP-34 40mm grenade launchers. They carry four spare grenades each, and two spare warheads.

Quick reaction forces responding a significant threat that the patrols cannot handle typically comprise of two BMP-3M IFVs and two T-90AM MBTs.
Additionally, there is a Russian Army engineer detachment who have been working hard on getting the base to it's final intended shape, and they are equipped with four IR-3M combat engineer vehicles, two BMR-3M mine clearing vehicles, two BREM-1M armored recovery vehicles and two MTU-90 bridge layer tanks.
