Aryn listened to the radio conversation, and smiled abit as she lofted a brow at the mention of skinny dipping. it sounded like they were a good-hearted, goofy sort of group, joking around on comms and such. "How about I carry that for you ma'am? Seems like that pack is heavy as hell."
"Nope, that's ok. Besides, i get the feeling that we all will be hauling a load or two, back to whatever main base there is, after this fob is decently secured." she said, using the acronym FOB (forward operating base).
As they continued walking down the hall, her smile turned bittersweet."The militia squad i was in, would have likely loved to be a part of this group..... Not sure any of them survived."

It all seemed so stranger honestly. It almost didn't even feel real. One minute she was sitting in an abandoned grocery store trying to reach a dusty old can that had rolled back behind a shelf... A few days later she's sitting at the airport with a bunch of people. She almost had to remind herself she wasn't dreaming. Lexi shook her head when Danny offered her the water. Not that she wasn't thirsty. She was dying for a drink... Only she wasn't sure yet.
When she outright asked if she was joining them Lexi hesitated. It was one thing to be excited to see people again. It was another thing entirely to just flat out trust them no questions asked. Lexi had questions, plenty of them. "What would I have to do?" She asked curiously. She was half expecting her to say nothing. She was expecting her to say that it was an open and welcoming community and that everyone got along with everyone. Lexi was expecting her to say that everyone was welcome and they had T-bone stakes and strawberry cheesecake and Hawaiian punch. Lexi thought that she was going to be told what she WANTED to hear. A frown pushed it's way onto Lexi's face. She knew what to good to be true sounded like. This kind of sounded like that.
She listened to the lighthearted back and forth between the two for a bit and shifted her weight to her other foot. Unknowingly her posture had loosened. She wasn't as tense. Lexi's shoulders relaxed a little and there was even the hint of a smile on her face. "I can stick around, check the place out." She finally said. She still had her doubts, but it couldn't hurt to look right?

"What would you have to do? Well...Sarah will have a sit down with you, see what you are good at...what your not so good at and she will then put you into a place to work around the place. Most of it is fairly easy to do and not that much learning to be done. We all get three meals a day: Breakfast, lunch and Dinner. So it's not like we starve for no reason. If we are lucky enough to find some cows, we get to have steaks every now and then. All depends on what the Hunters bring back from their hunts. Could be deer, could be fish we are eating or a Vegetable sandwich." Daniel explained a bit as she watched as Lexi loosened up a bit which was a good sign. Taking in a deep breath, she slowly let it out as she looked up at the sky and saw it was going to be dark in the next few hours. "That's all we ask really. If you don't like what you see, then you are more welcome to leave if you wish. We won't hold you back if you already have a set course in mind." A smile came over her face as she pushed herself off of the truck.
Standing on her feet, she put her hands on her hips and was thinking for a bit. "Well, Darkness will be falling soon. If you want, you can bunk up with me on the back of my truck. I have more then enough room for us both and still be comfortable. If not, we can find you a cot inside the medical tent. Your choice really. But right now...hmmm...not really sure what I am doing for the time being. Most of the people that came with us here are already building leaving no room for me to join in. So I'm a free hand roaming around." Tapping her foot a bit, she was thinking a bit to herself as she looked around the area. But, she would face Lexi again with her friendly smile on her face still. Who knows what time had waiting for them all. But she knew that they would be either rotating some of the people with someone with Belle isle either the next day or the following day, and she was one of those going back on the first rotation.

"Hahaha, you would be right. We will be going back to Belle Isle for Rotations....or maybe I'll be stuck here for who knows how long...but, you won't need to haul it back, we brought vehicles." He said as they continued to walk through the airport, getting closer to one of the doors to the outside world near the Medical Tent. He heard her talk about her Militia group she was part of. Frowning a bit, he wrapped an arm around her shoulders and brought her in so that he could hold her as they walked. "Well, if you decide to stay with us, you would be welcomed in warm welcoming arms." He gently squeezed her one shoulder in emphasize of what he is saying to her. Smiling now, he led her through the doors and held the door open for her. Once she was outside, he would then lead her to a big Military tent that was used for the Medical team. "This is our little mobile medical area." Going through the flaps, the two medics there stood up quickly at attention as Commander Smull stepped inside.
"These two will check you over for bites or injuries that you might have sustained that would be needing to be checked over. If you want, after your check up, you can put your bag into my vehicle which is the M-ATV in front of the Humvees over towards the front of the building on the run way strip. So if you want to talk more, I'll be inside the airport cleaning up the place so that it's more suitable for everyone. Until then, I'll be seeing you around Ms. Lazar." Bowing his head slightly, he would leave the tent and head back into the airport Terminal building. Picking up bags and traveling cases, he would begin to toss them outside so that other's could go through them and save what supplies they find or clothing that could be used. Fire's began to form up as member's of the group was starting them up for light and to cook their meals. But, Damen would work. He wanted the building to have at least enough room for them to set up shop and get Cot's up and ready for bed time for those that wanted to rest.

"Sure." Lexi replied to the offer of sleep. She could sleep on the ground for all she cared. Her body was exhausted. The hot sun and the walk out here had taken more out of her than she realized. Lexi actually did take the offered water and took a few sips of it. It wasn't that cold, but god was it refreshing. Lexi was wearing a few layers of clothing. She would have loved to strip down and get completely comfortable. The hot sun and the sweat in her clothes making that the only thing she wanted right now. She didn't however.
Lexi tossed her cigarette away and turned her body to look behind her. The truck bed was pretty wide at that. She turned and crawled over to the left side of the truck bed. It was already set up for the most part. She didn't lay down instantly. Instead she sat there with her knees huddled up to her chest. Lexi wrapped her arms around her slender legs and sighed. A place to call home sounded great. Someplace she didn't have to worry about surviving, but she could actually just live her life? She didn't even know that places like that existed anymore.
Lexi had come close to failing her medical check. A few weeks ago she thought she had met her end. She was rummaging through an old pharmacy looking for something anything that might be useful. A walker had popped up out of no where and she almost didn't react in time. It nearly sunk it's teeth into her face. That could have been where Lexi's story ended. She would have died without ever knowing about this place, about these people. Weather or not they were good people had yet to be definitively proven, but she had a good feeling about them. Lexi looked out at the horizon. Her hair blew lightly around her face... "How many people do you think are still out there?" She asked quietly. It wasn't rhetorical. She was honestly curious.

Danny walked over to the back of the truck. Lexi had taken the offer to sleep in the bed of the dump bed with Daniel and had moved her rather thin frame towards the left side of it. Daniel was nodding her head a bit as she looked at the back of the truck after seeing how much room was left. "Well, we could hold at least...one more comfortably, two more which will be a bit cramped. But, everyone knows that they aren't allowed to sleep up in this without my permission." Lexi looked as if she was thinking to herself. As Daniel was about to turn and start heading for the medical tent, she heard Lexi ask how many people she thought were still alive. It caused Daniel to think about it as she decided to climb back up onto the bed of the truck and crawled over her side of the dump bed. Laying down on her back and looking up at the darkening sky above, she would reply with what she thought.
"Thousands...have to figure because not all of humankind was stupid. You have those that have been surviving on their own in the woodlands, Tundras, deserts and jungle regions without assistance of the outside world. So, there is still hope for Humankind to bounce back and grow stronger from this ordeal we live with on a daily basis. For all we know, there is probably Millions of people still alive out there....scared of what will happen next." Her hands rested on her exposed stomach as she kept looking up at the sky above them as she thought more about it. Turning her head to look at Lexi, she would then ask her. "Hey, you hungry? They are probably making dinner at this point and it seems that you could use some hot food in your system." She said with that friendly smile again.
Lexi said nothing as she listened to Daniel. She pulled her knees tighter against her chest and tried her best to not stare. The wind blew her short hair around and Lexi breathed a heavy sigh. Millions possibly? Was the rest of the world affected? Was it only America? Had the rest of the world left us to this fate and just moved on without us? Used it as a way to push America off the top of the mountain. Seized control while we were at or weakest. Ensuring that America was no long the dominate superpower in the world? Lexi's thoughts rattled with a few scenarios but it was all speculation. She didn't know how far this sickness reached. She wasn't sure how many were out there for certain, but it surprised her every time she came across people.
Lexi was lost in thought for a moment when Daniel offered her food. To be honest Lexi was pretty hungry, but her body betrayed her. She found herself slowly shaking her head no. True, she could use a good meal, but the thought of mingling with that many people just seemed... Intimidating. She didn't know how many people were here but she thought about sitting around a campfire awkwardly trying to explain her story to them. "I'm ok." She said quietly. Lexi looked up at the darkened sky and thought about the cosmos. If there was other life out there in the universe, other intelligent life forms; were they dealing with this? It was a possibility that made her think quietly a moment longer. Not that it really mattered. Humanity as a species was a selfish bunch of pricks. It's not like we didn't deserve some harsh punishment, but the thought that only humans were going through this was depressing in and of itself.
This was quite possibly humanities extinction event. Much like the dinosaurs before us. Humanity was just as stubborn as it was selfish. Reaching up and tucking her short hair behind her ear Lexi tried to smile. "You can go eat. I'll be fine." Lexi pulled her backpack from her shoulders and rummaged around until she found an old box of animal crackers. She stared at it thoughtfully. The box's picture was faded and worn. Lions and tigers in cages with once bright eye catching colors on the box. It was symbolic. Mankind once was the master of this world and now we were just slugs trying to survive.
Lexi rolled the box around in her hands a moment longer as she stared at it. She opened the box and took one. Biting into it she could taste the staleness of it. It wasn't a great dinner, but it beat the group setting. She wasn't sure if she was ready for that yet. If they got back to Bell Isle she would be thrusted into a group of survivors, but for now she was just happy to not be alone, and take meeting people at her own pace. In small doses she was ok, but she didn't want to sit around a circle with everyone staring at her, that would just be awkward.

Daniel laid there still looking up at the darkening the sky with stars starting to poke through the once veil that held them out of sight, she heard the responses from Lexi and took note of how long it took her to say each sentence. Then she heard Lexi going through her back. Turning her head to watch her, she saw her going through her backpack and pulled out a box of rather old animal crackers. She looked at it for a long period of time until she finally took one out and bit into it. You could hear that it was Stale and Very old at how hard the snap was. Shaking her head, she looked up the bed a bit and grabbed her overnight backpack and pulled it down towards them. Groaning a bit as she pushed herself up into a sitting position, she opened the bag up and pulled out a clear zip lock bag which had cut up pieces of cured and pieces of cooked meat. Opening it, the scents of Venison and bear could be smelt as she reached in and pulled out a piece.
Placing the bag in between them, Daniel would take a bite out of the cured, Bear Jerky as she chewed on it for a bit and swallowed it. "Please, have some." She offered towards the shy woman. As Daniel kept eating on the bear jerky, she started to think about how she had almost been killed by the dead. She could have been eaten by those blasted things and it caused her to frown slightly as she looked off towards the wilderness as it's area was now darkness. Like eyes of death always watching. Leaning her back against the wall of the dump bed, she would let out a sigh and then a yawn as she sat there. Once she was done with the piece she was chewing on, she reached into the bag and found that there was a couple of pickled pieces of meat as well that soaked in Vinegar after being cooked, they all sat in jars of Vinegar in her Mechanic shop for Weeks. So, they would be tasting pretty good about now. Taking a bite of the Pickled bear meat, it was pretty damn good. It beat her Kosher Dill Eggs.
Lexi her animal crackers. They tasted like plywood. Whatever nutrients they had once held had probably been long gone by now, but they were something on her stomach. She could live with that. Lexi was content to just have her crackers until she caught scent of the cured meat. Her mouth almost started to water at the mere smell of it. She hadn't had meat in so long. She watched as the bag was opened and placed between them. Tantalizingly close to her grasp. Lexi looked at the bag and then at Daniel. She offered Lexi some.
She was going to stand on ceremony. She wanted to be polite. What had really happened was Lexi's hand darted into the bag so fast if you blinked you might've missed it. She was so hungry. Lexi's piece didn't last by a moment within her anxious waiting fingers. She dipped in and grabbed a second piece. She didn't care if it was stranger for them to be so nice, she was going to savor the first real meat to touch her lips in some time.
Lexi was always cautious, but here she just didn't care. She would rather be on the floor dead and twitching than sitting next to this bag of meat and not try it's wares. It tasted delicious. She chewed quietly and tried not to look to much at Daniel. She was probably making a pig of herself, but who adheared to manners anymore? It wasn't like civilization was around so what was the point of being so polite? With her mouth still full Lexi tossed appreciation Daniel's way. "Thank you." She said taking the final bite.
She looked back at her crackers that were now sitting beside her. She made a face at them and tucked them away back into her bag. They could still be eaten later. Lexi turned back to Daniel. There was a light blush on her cheeks. She knew she looked like she had no class, but it was food. She just reacted to the invitation. She ate it quickly as if the invitation to have some might have been retracted at any second. Lexi tried smiling. It was weak and unconvincing. "Tell me a bit about your group" Lexi asked as she shifted back to the back of the truck bed once more. She pulled her knees back up to her chest. She was cautious, but more and more optimistic by the second. "Will we be going back soon?" Lexi only had a vague understanding of when they were supposed to be heading back.
Lexi didn't sleep much that night. Her mind was buzzing with the what ifs and what might happen scenarios. She was honestly on pins and needles thinking about weather she should go or stay. She couldn't help it. It was in her nature to be cautious. It was what had served her. It had kept her alive this long and she didn't see any reason to suddenly start becoming overly trusting. She was sure there was a chance that these were good people with honest intentions, but in the end she had decided to leave.
Lexi slipped out in the night when everyone was asleep. She didn't so much as leave a note. She just vanished without a trace. It was almost as if she were never there. Lexi would find her luck elsewhere... Some place without people. She missed people, but they made her nervous. She didn't realize how much until she was suddenly surrounded by them again, but she had to get out and get back to what she knew... Being alone.
