Gunfire crackled all around. Shots richoetted of the hood of cars as people screamed instructions and prayed for safety. Julie pushed as hard as she could. She thought they would have more time before the shit hit the fan. They didn't. They were trying to set up defenses around their camp. They were staying in a small little culdasack at the end of a quiet neighborhood. It wasn't the best, but the houses were nice and it was a gated community. That didn't' keep the scumbags out that were trying to kill them.
Julie pressed her back into the trunk of the crossover and pushed with all her might. Jordan was beside her pushing, there was a look of worry in his eyes that she caught as she glanced over. She didn't know these people very well. She had only been here a few days, but a few days was enough to bond you. You had to depend on people if you wanted to survive now. You couldn't do it alone. If you could, you were freaking crazy. Julie grunted as she shoved all of her weight into moving the car into the barricade. They were forming a line of cars to keep other cars out, but that did very little to deter bullets. A stray bullet busted out the window of the car she was pushing. Glass showered down all around her. "Ecck!" She cried and ducked her head down lower. She wasn't sure if she was going to die here today. But she didn't want to.
"Get down!" Jordan cried as he saw someone lining up a shot. He shoved Julie to the ground just as a bullet punctured the trunk where he head was moments before. "We have to bail! Get back to the house!" He said grabbing her by the wrist and dragging the young blonde to her feet. Julie felt herself yanked hard and she stumbled behind him. She kept her head low as more gunshots cried out over the afternoon sky. "You can run all you want! This was a warning. You stay the hell out of San Dieago! or We're going to get nasty!" Someone cried out over the incessant chatter of firing guns.
Julie ran as fast as her legs would allow. San Diego she wondered. They were close to San Diego, but she didn't know what he was talking about. The group she had found herself with must've had some beef with these guys from before she got here. She wasn't sure if she could handle a fight right now. She was still reeling from the loss of her family. Sadness crept into her mind for a moment before bark split off a tree beside her. Someone was still shooting at them. She didn't know if they were trying to kill them or scare them but she didn't want to find out.
Jordan pulled Julie inside a house and shut the door behind them. Julie collapsed in the entrance way. She was near hysterics. Her mind was running a million miles a minute and her heart was daring to rip through her chest. Jordan looked through the peep hole to make sure they didn't cross their car barricade and then he took notice of Julie in the floor. He rushed to her side to quietly calm her. Jordan's hands reached up and cupped her cheek. He forced her to look at him. "shhhh it's ok. They're not chasing, breathe!" He urged her. Julie's blue eyes searched his face and she saw the worry. It melted her a little and made her feel guilty all at the same time. "I'm not going to let anything happen to you sunshine." He assured her.
Jordan leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips. Julie kissed him back and buried her face in his neck. Wrapping her arounds around him she pulled him to the floor beside her. He allowed her to pull him down and he just held her until she stopped shaking. Julie had arrived to this group three days ago, and found comfort in a friend named Jordan. She didn't know much about him, only that he used to be a police officer back in Tampa, and that he was already in love with her beautiful southern spirit.
