Full Name:
-
Jack Thomas Reed.
Aliases:
-
"Inthe". As in, Jack "Inthe" Reed(s) after barely running out of runway and causing a slow speed nose ditch into the dirt after the nosewheel collapsed upon hitting the grass. This was his nickname in flight training and the early years of his service.
- "
Hammer" On a training run against ground targets, Jack once said the immortal line... "Target area in sight, dropping the hammer". It stuck. He didn't mind though, as it was a cooler and far less embarrassing nickname/callsign than "Inthe".

Former RAF Colonel. F-4 Phantom pilot, former British Airways pilot, now retired after lotto win.
-
Hometown (city, state, country):
-
Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.
Relationships (relatives, friends,...):
-
Clare Samson (Ex Wife, status "who cares about that bitch?")
-
Former squadron mates (status unknown)
-
-
-
Weapons (currently in possession):
-
L1A1 battle rifle.
-
M1911 sidearm with suppressor.
-
Hatchet
-
-
Items (clothing, backpacks, first-aid kits, etc...):
-
RAF Uniform plus plate carrier.
-
RAF Flight suit. (Includes helmet)
-
Several changes of clothes. (Including a few rather tacky Hawaiian shirts)
-
Food and water supplies.
-
Mode of transportation:
Restored former RAAF De Havilland Vampire FB9. (Repainted in RAF colours, naturally). Although the aircraft is currently airworthy, the difficulty of keeping everything in perfect order in the apocalypse has taken its toll. List of problems: Engine's down on power, stick feels somewhat sluggish and two of the four hispano cannons are out of action. The remaining two though? Loaded and ready.
-
Range Rover classic: Suffering from a severe case of British Leyland build quality, and is currently not driveable.
List 3 or more good personality traits:
-
Focused: When Reed's on task, he is ice cold and focused with very few things able to distract him.
-
Friendly: Reed is generally a nice guy. Compassionate, helpful, kind, generous, etc.
-
Brave: Jack has balls of steel, whether it's pushing an aircraft right up to and in some cases beyond its limits, or fighting against impossible odds, he's not going to falter.
List 3 or more bad personality traits:
-
Cocky: The guy's sure of his skills in the cockpit. Perhaps a little -too- sure. Typical fighter jock.
-
Blunt: Jack doesn't tend to soften verbal blows, he says things straight, even if they aren't too diplomatic.
-
Prejudiced: A product of his time more than anything, Jack is a little racist and homophobic at times. While he won't often (if at all) just straight up insult someone for being homosexual or a certain race, he is somewhat prejudiced
List 3 strengths:
-
Ace pilot: If it has wings, Jack can make it dance due to over forty years of experience in multiple different aircraft types, from single piston engine trainers to fighter jets, to commercial jetliners.
- Engineer: Especially in regards to the Vampire. A big share of the restoration work was done by his own hands. A feat he is incredibly proud of.
-
Trained soldier: Of sorts. An airman rather than an infantryman, but still went through survival and weapons training like anybody else.
List 3 flaws:
-
Getting on a bit: The guy's in his sixties. Ain't exactly a young whippersnapper anymore. While he maintains a relatively good level of physical fitness, his old age is clearly starting to show and slow him down.
-
Bad back: Reed put his back out when trying to move furniture one time. Even ten years later it's still a constant annoying niggly pain, especially in the mornings.
-
Smoker: Guy likes his cigars. Of course, there are some health drawbacks with this, and without his nicotine fix he can get a little cranky.
Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
From a young age, being a fighter pilot was always a dream for Jack, a dream which he chased with everything he had. It was a long and difficult process, but eventually at the age of 23, he joined No.74 "Tiger" squadron behind the controls of the F-4 Phantom. His service during this time usually consisted of air patrol, countering Soviet probing attempts into British airspace.
He retired from the air force at the same time as the F-4Js were withdrawn from service in 1992, and went on to become a commercial pilot flying for British airways. He also married his girlfriend Clare, with whom he had been with for five years at this point too, however, the relationship was always rocky with Jack often away from home for long periods of time due to his career while Clare wanted to start a family. This eventually culminated in her finding another lover before filing for divorce. However, in an amusing twist of fate, just one month after the proceedings went through and the two went their separate ways, Jack won big in the euro millions lottery, making him an overnight multimillionaire.
With this massive injection of cash, Jack Reed almost instantly moved away from the UK to Lanaii island, Hawaii. He didn't just sit on his big wad of cash though, through a series of wise investments in the stock market, he had found himself absolutely raking in the dough. Nonetheless, despite everything he was still struck with a heavy dose of loneliness, boredom, and just a smidgen of late mid-life crisis.
So, what's a completely loaded former fighter pilot with no wife to nag him to do? Buy an old fighter jet of course! It took a lot of restoration work, however, in 2005 the former RAAF De Havilland Vampire was once again fully airworthy. Jack Reed often flew in airshows up until the outbreak, and did plenty of work for charity raising a fair amount of money for various causes, even competing in the Red Bull air race several times.
-
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
The island went to hell fairly quickly, the small Lanai City quickly turning into a complete bloodbath. Jack bunkered down through the initial panic, surviving up until most places were almost completely deserted. With this opportunity, he headed down to the airstrip his plane was kept at due to it being very much out of the way, and to his joy he found the Vampire still sitting there in the hangar, looking as good as new despite the carnage surrounding it from the remnants of people trying to flee.
-
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
Jack fortified the hangar as much as he could. His plan was to hold there out of the way until the zombie mayhem had passed the world by, keeping the Vampire as flightworthy as he could so it could be one heck of an emergency escape plan. He had plenty of fuel and plenty of supplies to last him a long time. However, recently he has spotted a large zombie herd headed in his direction from the remnants of Lanai City.
Jack Reed once again donned his flight suit, and fired up the mighty goblin 3 engine. Two functional cannons loaded, drop tanks filled to the brim. And this is where his story starts, on the flightline preparing for takeoff, ready to either flee the area and start anew, or if at all possible shred this herd from the air.
