Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse: Born in Cape D'Orlando on the northern coast of Sicily, Catriana Faviello was barely a year old when her, her older sister Gia and their parents emigrated to the United States as a result of Italian police pressure on the Sicilian Mafia (her father was a mid-level capo for Sicilian Don Toto Reina). After a few months living in in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, Catriana's parents had all their names legally changed, so out went Catriana Faviello and in came Catherine Favell. As she grew up, Catherine wanted to know more about her family's lineage and why they had come to America; eventually, her father sat her down and told her that they'd come to America not because of police pressure on them but because the Sicilians wanted to re-assert control over their American Mafioso coutnerparts...so a plan was hatched from Sicily: certain selected mobsters - including Catherine's father - would emigrate with their families to America, assume new identities and begin rising in power through the American Mafia, the hope being that when they were in positions of power and authority, they would reassert the old-world values, traditions and strict controls that had made the early mafioso as feared as they were.
Graduating from college and medical school, Catherine was on her way to becoming an accomplished doctor when she was accosted by a group of Japaense Yakuza; the reason? Unbeknownst to her, her father had double-crossed a West Coast Yakuza clan...now, normally, the punishment for doing so would be death to everyone in the double-crosser's family (and the double-crosser himself) but knowing her line of work, they made her an offer - work for us off the books and in the shadows or die in the same manner that her father had (even going so far as to show Catherine pictures of her parents after they'd been thrown in a dunk tank and left to drown). Not knowing what her fate could be if she didn't go along with them, Catherine agreed to do work for them, work that really can't be described in public without having a strong stomach....
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?: On Outbreak Day Dr. Favell was working a double shift at Davies Medical center when she got a page from one of her Yakuza contacts; despite how busy they were, she left and met her contact....only to discover, to her horror, that the page was a setup and that her Yakuza contact had lured her into a trap. After being thrown into the trunk of a sedan, she was taken to a Yakuza safe house and held there incommunicado (which wasn't that hard to do; after all, look what was going on around the world at that time) whereupon she learned to her horror that they were going to take her to a mansion south of the Monterey Peninsula (the very same one where a Yakuza associate was holding several dozen people captive, including Sarah Lyell). For several months there, Dr. Favell was held there as a captive but unlike the others, her job was to keep the prisoners heaLthy and alive so that their captors could "use" them to their horrifying needs..
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse: .....and this was her life for the next three years or so until she refused to nurse an ailing captive back to health for her Yakuza captives, resulting in them beating and assaulting her until they decided, for whatever reason, to take her to an old county prison about thirty miles or so east of San Simeon, where she's held with about seventy other Yakuza prisoners that they've collected over the year. While there, Dr. Favell decided that, in order to save her own skin, she would begin ratting out her fellow captives...a good business for her until a rescue mission to free a pair of San Simeon captives results in her and the other prisoners at Paso Robles ends up depositing her and the captives she had been informing on at San Simeon, where she must now figure out how to survive in an all-but-hostile new world....
