Two hours earlier
It had been a week since they'd met with Brigadier General McArthur, President Michner and the others at West Point. It had been a very tense several house initially, but it had all worked out in the end. Russian military high command was very happy with what had happened, and congratulated him on his progress. He was confident that they'd be able to get this done, especially given what had happened over the last week. As he looked out over the peer where both the Admiral Kuznetsov and the Pyotr Veliky had docked a smile formed on his face as he brought his cup up to his lips and took a long sip, looking at the barricades that had been erected all along the front of the pier, blocking off all access save a gate that had been set up in front of the road access so that they could get their own vehicles in and out.
He'd just gotten back from his tour of the base at Newark International Airport. It wasn't at the best place just about yet, it had been a rough week for the Scouts as they moved through the building, killing everything that had moved, and while they had come across some survivors, they were quickly loaded aboard helicopters and sent over to West Point. Naturally, the shock of being liberated by Russian Military, and then sent to their own military, was quite high.
Valentin was quite happy with how much they'd managed to get the airport back into a somewhat working order. It was largely still strewn with debris and while the bodies inside had been burned, there was still debris in most of the buildings and it would take a lot more time to get it cleaned out, refurbished and back to a state where they could perhaps make use of it. The engineers had been far too busy restoring some semblance of power. While they'd managed to get the backup generators running, it wasn't much, and there was talks of moving the Admiral Ushakov into the city to power the base.
However, for their purposes currently it would do, and the aircraft from the Russian Air Force and Naval air arm had already come in. The VDV and their Mi-35/Mi-17 contingent as well as their Ka-52 gunship support had moved to West Point, while their IL-76 remained at Newark. In addition to their MiG-29Ks and Su-33s on the Kuznetsov, the base had received six of the Russian Air Force's Su-35s to act as longer ranged fighter support. Six Su-34s had also been flown in to act as multi-role strike aircraft to hit targets that the base's six Su-25s can't reach with their shorter range. Additionally, a single Tu-22MR had been flown in for the reconnaissance mission to Washington.
The base also had it's own contingent of helicopters for Lieutenant Colonel Valentin's army unit. However, they would for the most part be holding this location, and so their contingent was approximately twelve Mi-17s, four Mi-35Ms and four Mi-28Ns. They were both informed that the VDV would act as a spearhead and move with the Americans, and if and only if they ran into stiff resistance were they to request for another mechanized unit. They were both fairly confident however that indeed that was not going to be the case.
Present time
Admiral Vadim Sokolov stepped off of the Ka-29TB behind him, walking out with Lieutenant Colonel Valentin with him. This time, the only one accompanying them was Major Zhukov. The usual pair of Ka-52 escorts had been replaced with a pair of MiG-29Ks, which instead flew back toward the carrier, waiting to be re-called back to escort the Admiral, knowing that he would likely be a while.
As he stepped out, Sokolov could see Captain Beloi and his unit waiting for him as well as a squad of VDV Paratroopers and their leader Major Artur Pavlov. Both men snapped off a salute, which both he, Valentin and Major Zhukov returned. "At ease," he then said, his voice audible now that the noise of the helicopter's engines had died down.
